Ⅰ.根据提示填空
Watching a 3D movie can more than double the concentration powers and cognitive (认知) processing of children, a new research claims.
A study made by ❶visual (视觉的) technology firm RealD and led by child psychologist Dr. Richard Woolfson suggests that children aged between 7 and 14 experienced twice the cognitive processing speed and ❷performed (perform) better in testing after watching 20 minutes of a 3D film. This is despite suggestions that attention spans (时期) in children ❸have_shortened (short) in the last decade due to unlimited access to ❹entertainment (entertain),
including ondemand TV, gaming and social ❺media (媒体). A 2015 study claimed that watching 3D content had a similar effect to braintraining exercises.
Consumer psychologist Mr. Fagan said that the increased stimulation (刺激) found in watching something in 3D “exercised”the brain and improved performance in the short term.
“3D films can play the role of ‘braintraining’games and help to make children ‘smarter’in the short term,”he said.“The shortening of ❻response (respond) time after watching 3D was almost three times as big as that gained from watching 2D; in other words, 3D helps children process ❼aspects (aspect) of their environment more quickly. This is likely to be because 3D is a mentally ❽stimulating (刺激的) experience which ‘gets the brain's juices flowing’.”
The experiment saw children given a range of cognitive tests before watching 20 minutes of a movie in either 2D or 3D and being ❾tested (test) again. The results showed those who saw the 3D ○10content (内容) reacted faster and performed better in the second round of testing. Mental engagement also rose by 13% among 3D watchers. Child psychologist Dr.Woolfson added that “supportive parenting”and regularly listening to classical music can also aid a child's memory.

employees were busy sweeping up popcorns and gathering coke cups. It was a ❷scene that had been repeated many times in the theater's 75year history. This time, however, the ❸cleanup was a little different. As one group of workers carried out the rubbish, another group began removing seats and other theater ❹equipment in preparation for the building's end.
The film ❺classic The Last Picture Show was the last movie ❻shown in the old theater. Though the movie is 30 years old, most of the 250 seats were filled with tearyeyed ❼audience wanting to ❽say_goodbye_to the old building. Theater owner Ed Bradford said he chose the movie because it seemed appropriate. The movie ❾is_set_in a small town where the only movie theater is preparing to ○10close_down.
Bradford said that large modern theaters in the city made it impossible for the Plaza to ○11compete. He added that the theater's ○12location was also a reason.“This used to be the center of town,”he said.“Now the area is mostly office buildings and warehouses.”
The theater audience said goodbye as Bradford locked the doors ○13 for_the_last_time. After 75 years the Plaza Theater had shown its last movie. The theater will be missed.

Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
(2019·湖北七市联考)Every household should have its own economical measures. In our case, it's a yard sale —the best behavior is recycling. For us, it couldn't have come at a better time. First, we are broke. Second, we have too many unwanted items in our home.
In fact, Posh once scolded me for selling a Bill Blass tie she bought me as a gift, in tears for the first time since our wedding night. I had to explain that women buy neckties for color, and men buy neckties for the way the material falls nicely against the shirts. It's one of the fundamental differences between the sexes.
Anyway, we have this yard sale in our front yard, where we unload a lot of junk: bad books, broken toys, halfsmoked cigars ...
“Dad, you're always selling objects too cheap,”complained the lovely and patient older daughter, who sits near the cash box, looking very upset. “I'm going back to bed,”she says, and so she does.
She is replaced by the little girl, MiniPosh. MiniPosh turns out to be more bored than even her lovely sister. She yawns a couple of times, and then requires lunch.
A few minutes later, my young son sells his very first tricycle for D|S2. Apparently, we're underpricing.
“You should ask D|S20 for those mountain bikes,”suggests one customer, who goes on to tell Posh that for 27 years he and his wife have spent Saturday mornings drinking coffee together, then visiting the yard sales.
“That's soooo romantic,”Posh says.
In fact, we do very well. In the end, a troop of strangers pay me hundreds
of dollars to clean out the house. I also discover what romance really is (visiting yard sales).
语篇解读:本文是一篇记叙文,讲述了作者一家人在前院进行庭院旧货出售的经过。
1.What do we know about a yard sale?
A.It's an ideal place for Americans to get gifts.
B.It's for customers and sellers to make crafts together.
C.It's a fashionable event for singles to search for romance.
D.It's about selling unwanted items to people who need them.

2.Why did the author sell the Bill Blass necktie?
A.Because it didn't match his shirts.
B.Because it was a real bargain.
C.Because it was already worn out.
D.Because it was of poor quality.
3.How do the author's two daughters feel about the yard sale?
A.They become uninterested in the sale of secondhand goods.
B.They are sympathetic to their father who is broke.

解析:选A细节理解题。

4.What can we infer from the passage?
A.Yard sales in the US are no longer popular.
B.Rich Americans are trying to collect extra cash.
C.Visiting yard sales is romantic to certain American couples.
D.It is pleasant that strangers volunteer to clean your house.
解析:选C推理判断题。
根据倒数第三段一位顾客的故事以及最后一段中的“I also discover what romance really is (visiting yard sales)”可推知,对一些美国夫妻来说,逛庭院旧货出售是浪漫的,所以C项正确。

(2019·石家庄质检)After shopping for deals in stores on “Black Friday”,or online on “Cyber Monday”,Americans and people worldwide are preparing for newly popular “Giving Tuesday”. Starting in 2012, now the global event that is celebrated annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving is the brainchild of 92nd Street Y, a cultural center in New York City and the United Nations Foundation.
As the name indicates, “Giving Tuesday”is meant to restart the
charitable season and therefore observed by raising funds for local nonprofits and schools, organizing food and clothing drives, and conducting random acts of kindness. In 2015, 700,000 people from 71 countries came together to donate D|S 116.7 million in cash. An additional D|S 1.08 million was spent on gifts.
While the easiest way to participate is by donating to your favorite charity, this day can be celebrated in many other ways too. You can give back by volunteering at your local shelter or food bank, or even by donating blood. If all else fails, a purchase from the growing number of organizations that give a portion of their sales to charity will do the trick.
But perhaps the best way to celebrate the day is by helping those nearest and dearest to you. Assist a family member with a simple chore like folding laundry, cooking dinner, or even reading to a younger sibling. No matter what you do, be sure to share your good deed on social media and inspire others to celebrate “Giving Tuesday”as well!
