Name ________ Class ________
完型1
I believe in miracles because I've seen so many of them. One day, a patient came to me who was one hundred and two years old.“There’s a pain in my mouth,” she said. “I told
my own dentist it's nothing, but he___1__I should come to see you.”
Her eighty-year-old son accompanied her. He would ____2____to add something, but she stopped him. She wanted to tell everything herself. I found a large cancer that spread
over much of the roof of her mouth. A careful examination later confirmed(证实) that it was a particularly bad sort of cancer.
During her next appointment(预约), I explained to her the ____3____of the problem. She clasped my hand in hers and said, “I know you’re worried about me, but I’m
just ____4____.”
After my effort and her kindness because she wanted to ____5____me, she agreed to go to see a cancer doctor. She saw him, but as I expected, ____6____ treatment. About six months later she returned to my office, still energetic and __7____.“How are you?” I asked.
“I’m just fine, honey,” she responded in high spirits. “When can I get started on fixing my dentures(假牙)?”
Surprised to see her at all, I answered____8___,“Let me take a look in your mouth and we’ll see about it.”
I couldn’t believe my eyes. The cancer that had covered nearly the whole roof of her mouth was gone—only one small area of redness remained.
I had read of such things happening, but had ____9___seen them with my own eyes. That was my first miracle. Since then I've seen many others, because they keep getting easier to see. In fact, miracles are daily events for me now. And people are a miracle, ____10____ through them we have a chance to know ourselves and to see the miracles of one another.
Since my first miracle, I've come to understand that the time and place for a miracle is wherever we choose to find it.

For those who make journeys across the world, the speed of travel today has turned the countries into a series of villages.Distances between them appear no greater to a modern
traveler than those which once faced men as they walked from village to village. Jet plane
fly people from one end of the earth to the other, allowing them a freedom of movement undreamt of a hundred years ago.
Yet some people wonder if the revolution(变革) in travel has gone too far. A price has been paid, they say, for the conquest (征服) of time and distance. Travel is something to be
enjoyed, not endured (忍受). The boat offers relaxation and time enough to appreciate the
ever-changing sights and sounds of a journey. A journey by train also has a special charm
about it. Lakes and forests and wild, open plains sweeping past your carriage window create a grand view in which time and distance mean nothing. On board a plane, however, 3
there is just the blank blue of the sky filling the narrow window of the airplane. The soft lighting, in-flight films and gentle music make up the only world you know, and the hours
progress slowly.
Then there is the time spent being “processed” at a mo dern airport. People move like robots along walkways; baggage is weighed, tickets produced, examined and produced yet
again before the passenger move again to another waiting area. Journeys by rail and sea take longer, yes, but the hours spent being “processed” at departure and arrival in airports
are luckily absent. No wonder, then, that the modern high-speed trains are winning back
passengers from the airlines.
Man, however, is now a world traveler and can not turn his back on the airplane. The working lives of too many people depend upon it; whole new industries have been built around its design and operation. The holiday maker, too, with limited time to spend, patiently endures the busy airports and limited space of the flight to gain those extra hours
and even days, relaxing in the sun. Speed controls people’s lives; time saved, in work or
play, is the important thing—or so we are told. Perhaps those first horsemen, riding free
across the wild, open plains, were enjoying a better world than the one we know today. They could travel at will, and the clock was not their master.

任务型1
We are told breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and dinner the most enjoyable. But what about lunch? In today’s fast-paced society, not many people take time
to enjoy this midday meal. We just take a quick salad, or buy a sandwich and eat at our computers. Sometimes, if there is a deadline around the corner, we just give up lunch. The
development of technology hasn’t done our eating habits much good, either. We are constantly distracted(分神) by e-mails, social media, 24-hour news, and hand-held electronic devices.
Long working hours can cause all kinds of health problems. Employers should encourage workers to take time off for lunch. This is because long lunch breaks can benefit
both people and society. To take a lunch break is to slow down and gain some views. A break from work allows us to think cleverly and outside the box. It also puts our daily tasks
into a wider context(环境).
What we eat at lunch is also important. A fast-food lunch is more harmful than not having lunch at all. And it’s not just about calories and unhealthy food. Recent studies show that fast food also has negative effects on how we think. However, if we sit down at a
proper restaurant and chat leisurely with colleagues, we are more likely to slow down and
talk about something that hardly can be achieved in a noisy and crowed fast-food chain.
1. Do many people take time to enjoy the midday meal?
_________________________________________________________
2. What can cause all kinds of health problems?
_________________________________________________________
3. Which is more harmful, having a fast-food lunch or not having lunch at all?

4. Why should employers encourage workers to take time off for lunch?
_________________________________________________________
5. What are the writer’s suggestions?
_________________________________________________________。
