One possible version:
Recently w e’ve had a heated debate about whether middle school students should do social practice. Different students have different opinions.
The pros think middle school students should do social practice. They believe social practice can help them know more about the things around them and give them much experience. By doing so, the students’ ability can be greatly developed. Besides, they can put what they have learned from the books into practice.
On the other hand, the cons think middle school students don’t have to do social practice, because they are too young to fit the world. They say it’s a waste of money and energy. What’s mor e, there are no such chances.

Text 1
M: Does Tom still smoke?
W: I haven’t seen him smoke since his baby was born.
Text 2
W: What’s the best time to go to the zoo?
M: You should go during the weekdays. It’s nice and quiet in the afternoon.
Text 3
M: I’m tired and I feel like going to bed, Mum.
W: Oh, Sam, really? It’s only eight o’clock, dear.
M: I didn’t sleep well last night.
Text 4
M: Hi, Mary. How is everything?
W: Not bad, except for my toothache.
M: You had a fever the other day. How come you get ill so often?
Text 5
W: How did you like your work as a reporter?
M: Well, not too much. It was interesting, but I had to work long hours, and I was never home at weekends.
Text 6
M: I’m looking for an apartment.
W: An apartment? Why?
M: I’m trying to find a place near the office.
W: Where are you living now?
M: Out in the suburbs. It’s a long trip to work every day.
W: Apartments in the city are expensive, you know.
M: Yes. But I have to find one because I’m going to need more time in the city. I’ve attended a night course at New York University.
Text 7
M: Hi, Tom Bruce speaking. I want to make an appointment with Mr. White this afternoon.
W: Let me see the timetable please.
M: I remember he said he would be free this afternoon.
W: But his son will hold a great wedding ceremony.
M: I see. No wonder he is so happy recently.
W: Could you make it some other time?
M: OK. But I don’t know when he will be free.
W: About one week later.
M: Then I can fetch some medicine from your clinic.
W: OK. We have nurses waiting for you.
Text 8
W: I have just bought a new house in the countryside.
M: Great, you can have fresh air every day.
W: But I’m not happy from this morning.
M: Why? You don’t like the house?
W: No. It’s small but comfortable and I like the environment.
M: What makes you unhappy?
W: I don’t know what color I should paint the wall.
M: There are so many kinds of paint to choose from.
W: That’s the problem. My daughter likes white best but I like blue.
M: Why not paint rooms with different colors?
W: I don’t understand.
M: My son’s room’s wall is green and mine is white.
W: I see. Good idea.
M: Everyone has his own taste. We should try to satisfy it.
Text 9
W: How long was your flight?
M: I’m not sure exactly; it must have been 15 hours or more. It was about three from
Beijing to Tokyo, and then it was over ten for the next flight.
W: Did you see much of Japan from the air?
M: Almost nothing. It was very cloudy there. But early this morning, I saw some mountains covered in snow! The attendant said it was Alaska.
W: That’s my place. I love to go fishing there.
M: It must be an interesting place. I don’t see any people working around the street, and there are so few cars here. In Beijing usually the rush hour starts early on Monday morning.
W: Well, it’s pretty typical for a Sunday.
M: Sunday? But it was… oh, I forgot I’ve gained a day.
W: Yes. I guess many people are up at the lake boating, swimming or fishing.
Text 10
Mike was born in a small village. His father, Mr. Hunt, has a big farm and works hard on it. He often gets good harvests. Now Mike is six years old, but there’s no school near the village. It worries him.
“My brother works in London,” said Mrs. Hunt. We can take Mike to the capital. There are a lot of nice schools there, I think.”
“It’s a good idea!” Mr. Hunt said happily. The next day they all went to London by train. Mike’s uncle was glad to see them. A week later, Mike came to a school.
“What’s your name, my little boy?” asked the teacher.
“Mike Hunt,” answered the boy.
“You must be polite,” said the teacher. “Always say ‘sir’ when you’re speaking to the elders. Now, answer my question again: What’s your name?”
“Sir Mike Hunt.”。
