If we were asked exactly what we were doing a year ago,we should probably have to say that we could not remember. But if we had kept a book and had written in it an account of what we did each day,we should be able to give an answer to the question. It is the same in history。

Many things have been forgotten because we do not have any written account of them. Sometimes men did keep a record of the most important happenings in their country, but often it was destroyed by fire or in a war.Sometimes there was never any written record at all because the people of that time and place did not know how to write. For example,we know a good deal about the people who lived in China 4,000 years ago, because they could write and leave written records for those who lived after them. But we know almost nothing about the people who lived even 200 years
ago in central Africa, because they had not learned to write。

Sometimes, of course, even if the people cannot write, they may know something of the past. They have heard about it from older people, and often songs and dances and stories have been made about the most important happenings, and these have been sung and acted and told for many generations. For most people are proud to tell what their fathers did in the past。

This we may call “remembered history”.Some of it has now been written down。

It is not so exact or so valuable to us as written history is,because words are much more easily changed when used again and again in speech than when copied in writing. But where there are no written records, such spoken stories are often very helpful.28.Which of the following ideas is not suggested in the passage?A.“Remembered history”,compared with written history,is less reliable B.Written records of the past play the most important role in our learning of the human history.
C.A written account of our daily activities helps US to be able to answer many questions.
D.Where there are no written records.there is no history.
29.We know very little about the central Africa 200 years ago because ________. A.there was nothing worth being written down at that time
B. the people there ignored the importance of keeping a record
C. the written records were perhaps destroyed by a fire
A.the people there did not know how to write
30.“Remembered history"refers to__________.
A.history based on a person's imagination
B . stories of important happenings passed down from mouth to mouth
C . songs and dances about the most important events
D 。

both B and C
31.“Remembered history"is regarded as valuable only when ____________.
A.it is written down
B.no written account is available
C.it proves to be time
D.people are interested in it
D
For any Englishman, there can never be a ny discussion as to who is the world’s greatest dramatist(剧作家).Only one name can possibly suggest itself to him:that of William Shakespeare。

Every Englishman has some knowledge, however slight,of the work of our greatest writer. All of US use words, phrases a nd quotations from Shakespeare’s writings that have become part of the common property of the English-speaking people. Most of the time we are probably unaware of the source of the words we used, rather like the old lady who was taken to see a performance of Hamlet and complained that it was full of well—known proverbs and quotations. Shakespeare, more perhaps than any other writer, makes full use of the great resources of the English language. Most of US use about five thousand words in our normal use of English;Shakespeare in his works used about twenty—five thousand. There is probably no better way for a foreigner to appreciate the richness and variety of the English language than by studying the various ways in which Shakespeare used it.Such a study is well worth the effort ( it is not,of course, recommended to beginners ) even though some aspects of English usage,
and the meaning of many words, have changed since Shakespeare’s day.
32.English people _____________
A.have never discussed who is the world’s greatest dra matist
B.never discuss any issue concerning the world's greatest dramatist
C.are sure who is the world’s greatest dramatist
D.do not care who is the world's greatest poet and dramatist
33.Every Englishman knows __________
A.more or less about Shakespeare
B.Shakespeare,but only slightly
C.all Shakespeare's writings
D.only the name of the greatest English writer
34。

Which of the following is true?
A.We use all the words, phrases and quotations from Shakespeare’s writings.B.Shakespeare’s writings ha ve become the property of those who are learning to speak English.
C.It is likely to be true that people often do not know the origins of the words they use
D All the words people use are taken from the writings of Shakespeare
35。

What does the word “proverb” mean?
A.Familiar sayings
B.Shakespeare’s plays.
C.Complaints.
D.Actors and actresses.
第二节(共5小题;每小题3分,满分15 分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

选项中有两项为多余选项.
Learning a foreign language is a challenge, but it can also be fun. Here is some advice on how to learn another language.
Spend the time.
The more time you spend on the language, the faster you will learn. This means listening, reading, writing, speaking and studying words and phrases. This does not mean sitting in class looking out of the window, nor listening to other students who
do not speak well, nor getting explanations in your own language about how the language works。

36
Listen and read every day。

Listen wherever you are on your MP5 player. Read what you are listening to。

Listen
to and read things that you like, things that you can mostly understand, or even partly understand. If you keep listening and reading, you will get used to the language。

37
Focus on words and phrases。

Build up your vocabulary, and you’ll nee d lots. Start to notice words and how
they come together as phrases. Learn these words and phrases through your listening
and reading. Read online, using online dictionaries, and make your own vocabulary lists
for review。

38 Gradually you will be able to use them。

Do not worry about how accurately you speak until you have accumulated plenty of words through listening and reading.
39
If you do not want to learn the language, you won't。

If you do want to learn the language, take control。

Choose the content of interest that you want to listen to
and read。

Seek out the words and phrases that you need to understand your listening
and reading。

Do not wait for someone else to show you the language, nor to tell you
what to do。

Discover the language by yourself like a child growing up. Talk or write
when you feel like it. A teacher cannot teach you to become fluent, but you can learn to become fluent if you want to。

Relax and enjoy yourself。

40 It doesn't matter. You are learning and improving。

The language will gradually become clearer in your brain, but this will happen on a schedule that you cannot control。

So sit back and enjoy. Just make sure you spend enough time on the language. That is the greatest guarantee of success。

A.Do not worry about what you cannot remember, or cannot yet understand, or cannot yet say.
B.This means spending time enjoyable connected to the language you are learning。

C.Have more practice in listening。

D.One hour of listening or reading is more effective than many hours of class time.
E.Take responsibility for your own learning!
F.Learn a foreign language by yourself.
G.Soon you will run into your new words and phrases elsewhere。

Dear Editor,
I'm a middle school student naming Lily。

I'm writing to tell you something I don't think it good. Recently I've noticed many of my classmates often went to the Internet bar near our school。

The other day I went there, too. I was very surprising to see many students playing games, seeing films and chatting。

Some were even talking about love affairs on-line. In my opinion, an Internet bar should be a place which we can find much useful information。

As is known to all that the Internet is a window to an outside world rather than a place for games. The Internet is good if we make good use it. Otherwise, it will do us great harm。

So the local government should take measure to make sure that the students use Internet bars positively。

六.作文范文
Some of us think that it is better to see the film than to read the book in the original。

The reason is that it takes less time to understand the whole story. Besides, the film is usually more interesting, and it is easier to follow.
Some others have just the opposite opinion。

They think that they can get more detailed information from the original. Meanwhile, the language in the book is possibly more lively and beautiful。

Personally, I agree with the second view。

Actually I have more reasons for it。

I think I can stay at home, reading quietly in a situation of my own, and what's more,I am able to better understand the author’s ideas。

In a word, to read the original work is better than to see the film based on it。
