PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate or reduce luminance unevenness at a high speed and with simple algorithms, without generating noise, such as pseudo-edges,regardless of the existence/absence of periodicity of luminance unevenness in an image processing device and image processing method.
SOLUTION: A luminance information calculating means 102 calculates average
luminance and luminance deviation representative value of an input image, and a luminance replaced image preparing means 103 replaces singular luminance data, the deviation from the average luminance of which is larger than a prescribed value with replacement luminance data to prepare a replaced image. A luminance smoothing means 108 smoothes the replaced image, and a luminance unevenness image preparing means 104 prepares a luminance unevenness image. Then, a luminance unevenness elimination image preparing means 106 calculates the input image, average luminance and luminance unevenness image to be able to eliminate the luminance unevenness.
