Bananas are the perfect snack. Not only are they sweet and delicious but they are easy to carry around, so you can take them anywhere. Best of all, bananas provide different things that the human body needs!
Bananas grow best in warm places that gets lots of rain. They grow on plants that look like trees. The banana plant, however, is considered a herb rather than a tree because it doesn’t have a strong, woody steam (根,茎). The plants can grow as high as 30 feet. When they reach their height, flowers grow out from the stem. These flowers produce bananas.
Two or three times each year, the plants produce the fruit. The bananas grow together, which seem like “hands”. A hand is made up of 10 to 20 bananas. Growers sometimes call bananas “fingers”. Each bunch of bananas has about 15hands, and so a whole bunch may have as many as 200 bananas are ready to be picked and can weigh more than 100 pounds.
After about three months, the bananas are ready to be picked. At this point, they still aren’t the sunny yellow color bananas. Farmers pick them when they're green. That's how they're shipped to stores. They turn yellow along the way and are ready to besold.
If you love bananas, you've got a lot of company. Americans have been enjoying bananas since the first shipment arrived in the United States in 1876.Today, Americans eat more bananas than any other fruit. More bananas are sold than apples and grapes together. Every American eats over 26 pounds of bananas eachyear!

The next time you go into a bank, a store, or a supermarket, stop and listen. What do you hear?
1. It’s similar to the music you listen to, but it’s not exactly the same. That’s because this music was especially designed to relax you, or to give you extra energy. Sometimes you don’t even realize the music is playing, but you react to the musicanyway.
Quiet background music used to be called “elevator music” because we often heard it in elevators. But lately we hea r it in more and more places, and it has a new name “Muzak”. About one-third of the people in America listen to “Muzak” every day. The music plays for 15 minutes at a time, with short pauses in between. It is always more lively between ten and eleven in the morning, and between three and four in the afternoon, when people are moretired.2. If you listen to Muzak carefully, you will probably recognize the names of many of songs. Some musicians or songwriters don’t want their songs to be used as Muzak, but others are happy when their songs are chosen. Why?3.
Music is often played in public places because it is designed to make people feel less lonely when they are in an airport or a hotel. It has been proved that Muzak does what it is designed to do. Tired office workers suddenly have more energy when they hear the pleasant sound of Muzak in the background.
4. Supermarketshoppersbuy38percentmoregroceries.
5. They say it’s boring to hear the same songs all the time. But other people enjoy hearing Muzak in public places. They say it helps them relax and feel calm. One way or another, Muzak affects everyone. Some farmers even say their cows give more milk when they hearMuzak!
I had been picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had tried her best to rehearse my lines (背诵台词) with me. However, no matter how easily I delivered them at home, as soon as I stepped on stage, every word disappeared from my head. Finally, my teacher took me aside. She explained that she had written a narrator’s ( 旁白的) part to the play, and asked me to change roles. I didn’t tell my mom what had happened when I went home for lunch that day, but she sensed my unease, and asked if I wanted to walk in the garden. It was a lovely spring day and the rose vine( 藤) was turning green. We could see yellow dandelions (蒲公英) popping through the grass.
Mom stopped, pointing at the dandelions and said, “I think I’m going to dig up all these weeds(杂草). From now on we’ll only have roses in the garden.”
“But I like dandelions.” I disagreed.
“All flowers are beautiful, even dandelions.” My mother looked at me seriously. “Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn’t it? And that is true of people too. Not everyon e can be a princess, but there is no shame inthat.”
Realizing that she had guessed my pain, I started to cry as I told her what had happened. “But you will be a beautiful narrator, my dear Jenny,” she said, reminding me of how much I loved to read stories aloud to her. “The narrator’s part is as important as the part of the princess.”
Over the next few weeks, with her encouragement, I learned to take pride in the role.
Lunchtimes were spent reading over my lines and talking about what I would wear.
