Flying is a fast way of getting from one place to another. But since COVID-19 broke out, international travel has been put on hold. Some people have been daydreaming not only about faraway destinations (目的地) but also about flying experience itself. They miss the excitement of taking off and seeing the Earth from above.
That’s where “flights to nowhere” come in. Qantas, an Australian airline (航空公司), offered such a “sightseeing trip” in October, 2020. The plane took off and landed at the same airport. The flight took seven hours and covered a large area. The passengers could see many Australian attractions, like Sydney Harbor, from a height of 30,000 feet. Qantas used a Boeing 787 Dream line for the flight. The plane has large windows. They are great for sightseeing.
The flight was very popular. The 134 tickets sold out in ten minutes! When the plane took off, every passenger cheered and clapped excitedly. “All I want is to be in a window seat and see clouds go by. I miss that sight so much!” said one passenger. “You know, the last time I flew was when I took my family to Japan in 2018.”
In the rest of the world, many airlines said their customers had been asking about flights to nowhere. Researchers point out that for many travelers, the destination is not always the most important thing, while who you go with can be more important than where you go.
Do you miss the excitement of flying? Do you want to board a flight to nowhere? 4.What does the underlined phrase “put on hold” in Paragraph 1 means?
A.put on B.put off C.held on D.held out 5.What is Qantas?

A.To introduce us a faraway airline.B.To encourage us to try Qantas’ trip.
C.To show us the meaning of travel.D.To ask us to travel around the world.
If you visit some villages in the English countryside, you might be lucky to see Morris dancing (莫里斯舞). People are not sure how old this kind of dancing is. Some think it started 2,000 years ago, but most agree that Morris dancing is probably about five centuries old.
Many agree that it celebrates traditional English farm life on holidays. Morris dances wear traditional costurmes. Usually, this is a white shirt, a bridge jacket, a hat and small bell called “jingle bells”. There are different styles of Morris dancing from different places around England.
In Cotswold Morris, the dances usually carry white handkerchiefs (手绢) and sticks, which they hit as they dance. Each dance has six male dances in Cotswold style, with a musician who plays a pipe (管乐器) or a violin.
Morris dancing styles from the north of England often use swords (剑) instead of sticks, and dances can look a little like soldiers, which is different from southern styles. It is common in this style for men and women to dance together.
Border Morris comes from the west of England, near the border with Wales. Dancers in this style usually wear normal clothes decorated with pieces of colorful paper, and sometimes they put black paint on their faces.
Morris dancing is an old English tradition but it’s facing a big crisis (危机). As the years go by, fewer and fewer young people join Morris dancing groups. Some worry that if nothing is done to change this, the tradition will die out.

Octopuses are kind of like aliens. They are amazing in many ways. They have three hearts. They can walk, they can swim, and they can drive themselves forward at high speeds. They can change color and copy what other animals do and they even know how to open screw-top jars (带螺筑盖的罐子) and how to use tools!
Octopuses are mollusks (软体动物). But unlike many other mollusks, they don’t have a shell. This allows them to pass through tiny spaces. Although octopuses mainly eat small fish, they are able to attack and kill small sharks.
One thing that makes octopuses seem like aliens is their blue blood. It is much better at giving oxygen (氧气) in cold and low-oxygen conditions than our red blood. Octopuses lose energy easily. This may help explain their outstanding intelligence: They can’t run after their prey (猎物) for a long time. They must use clever tricks.
As a hunter (捕猎者), an octopus brings its prey under control through the use of a powerful poison (毒素). The smaller the octopus, the stronger the poison. The
ten-centimeter-long blue-ringed octopus is so poisonous that it can easily kill a grown man. Octopuses themselves can be delicious prey to many different animals in the ocean, but many of the times they are clever enough to know how to keep themselves safe. With their
color-changing skin, octopuses can easily “hide” themselves or flash alarming colors to frighten their enemies away. If that doesn’t work, the octopus will send out a cloud of dark ink and quickly run away.
▲ . They can turn in any direction. The arms are too complex (复杂的) to be controlled from a central brain. Instead, they work almost independently. An octopus gives instructions and believes that they will be carried out. This means that the animal doesn’t have a very good idea of where its arms are. They can’t work out the shape of something by feeling it, like we can.
11.Why can Octopuses pass through tiny spaces?
A.Because they can use tools.B.Because they have no shell. C.Because they eat small fish.D.Because they are clever.
12.What make the octopuses be better at giving oxygen in the ocean?
A.They have three hearts.B.They can use clever tricks.
C.They can kill small sharks.D.They have blue blood.
13.How does an octopus frighten its enemies away?
A.By flashing alarming colors.B.By color-changing skin.
C.By driving at a high speed.D.By running after the prey. 14.Which of the following can be put into the blank ▲ in the last paragraph? A.Octopuses don’t have a good feeling of the shapes.
B.Octopuses’ arms can get instructions and work well.
C.Instructions from octopuses’ brains can go well.
D.The most amazing part of an octopus is its arms.
15.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.Dangerous Octopuses B.Hunters in the Ocean
C.Amazing Octopuses D.Aliens on the Earth
