A Stranger Asking for Directions
Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, spilling in patches onto the winding path. I leisurely walked along this familiar road, enjoying the tranquility and comfort of the afternoon. Suddenly, a strange voice interrupted my thoughts.
"Excuse me, could you tell me how to get to the downtown hospital?" A middle-aged man stood in front of me, his face etched with anxiety and expectation. As I looked up, I saw that he was dressed simply and held a medical record tightly in his hand, obviously having urgent matters to attend to at the hospital.
”
I nodded and thought to myself that the downtown hospital was not far from here, so it shouldn't be difficult to give him directions. So, pointing ahead, I began to explain the route in detail: "You keep walking straight along this road until you reach a crossroads about five hundred meters ahead. Turn right at the crossroads and continue straight. After passing through two traffic lights, you'll see the hospital building on your left."
”
After listening to me, the man furrowed his brow slightly, seemingly confused by my description. He hesitated for a moment and then cautiously asked, "Could you please be more specific? I'm not very familiar with this area and am afraid of getting lost."
”
I realized that he might need more intuitive guidance, so I took out my phone from my pocket and opened the map application. Pointing to the route on the screen, I explained it to him step by step: "Look, this is where we are now, and this is the hospital you're going to. You can walk straight along this road. There's a landmark building here, a small supermarket. You can use it as a reference. After passing the supermarket and walking for a bit, you'll be able to see the hospital."
After listening to me, the man's face broke into a relieved smile. He thanked me repeatedly and said he would follow my directions to the hospital. As I watched his figure gradually disappear in the distance, I felt a sense of satisfaction.
This brief exchange with a stranger made me deeply appreciate the joy of helping others. Although it was just a simple matter of giving directions, it could be a great help to the anxious man. I realized that in life, each of us has the potential to be a guiding beacon for others, giving them direction and hope.
At the same time, I reflected on my attitude and performance when facing strangers seeking help. Although I tried my best to provide detailed guidance, perhaps I could be more patient and meticulous. In the days ahead, I will pay
more attention to my words and actions and strive to become a more helpful and understanding person.
