“Of course,we'll still be friends when we’re eighty-two,” Jenna announced loudly。

The next year,in Grade Four, we met Jamie。

The three of us soon became close friends. We played together almost every day。

I thought even time couldn't pull us apart, but I was sadly mistaken。

The three of us started fighting a lot. Before Christmas,We had a really big fight, and Jamie and Jenna were against me, both saying I was bossy (专横的). I felt helpless and lonely。

I thought Christmas would be horrible!
I was surprised when Jenna came to my house and gave me a terrible Christmas card she had made for me. I was so sure that she was still
disappointed with me。

“Wow,” I said, breaking the silence as we stood on either side of my front door. “Thanks.”
“Okay…well… I have to go,” she said softly。

“Okay。

See you later then…” and I closed the door。

”Who was that at the door?”my mum asked. I told mum it was my friend Jenna。

The card started o ff with “Merry Christmas”,but then it said, “I am so glad we're friends。

I am sorry about what I said when we were fighting. A fight won’t stop us from being friends。

Besides,we said we were going to be friends even when we’re eighty—two.”
I stopped reading and started laughing. I couldn't believe I had forgotten what she said that day in the back yard。

On a Friday night, a poor young artist stood at the gate of the New York railway station, playing his violin. The music was so great that many people stopped to put some money into the hat of the young man。

The next day,the young artist came to the same place, and put his hat on the ground gracefully. Different from the day before,he took out a large piece of paper and laid it under his hat. Then he began to play the
violin。

It sounded more pleasant than ever。

Soon he was surrounded with people who were attracted by the words on that paper。

It said, “Last night, a gentleman named George Sang put an important thing into my hat by mistake。

Please come to claim (认领) it so on.”
After about half an hour, a middle-aged man rushed through the crowd to the violinist and said,“Yes, it's you。

I knew that you were an honest man and would certainly come here。

" The young violinist asked calmly, “Are you Mr George Sang?” The man nodd ed。

The violinist asked,“Did you lose something?" “It’s a lottery ticket,” said the man. The violinist took out a lottery ticket on which George Sang’s name was seen. “Is it?” he asked. George nodded and took the lottery ticket and kissed it, then danced with the violinist.
The violinist was a student at an arts college and had planned to attend advanced studies in Vienna. Later his classmate asked the violinist,“At that time you needed money to pay the tuition(学费)and you had to play the violin in the railway station every day to make money. Why didn't you keep the lottery ticket for yourself?”

Every year thousands of tourists visit Pompeii, Italy. They see the sights that Pompeii is famous for-its stadium(运动场)and theatres, its shops and restaurants. The tourists do not, however, see Pompeii’s people. They do not see them because Pompeii has no people。

No one has lived in Pompeii for almost 2,000 years.
Once,Pompeii was a busy city of 22,000 people. It lay at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, a grass-covered volcano(火山). Mount Vesuvius had
not erupted(喷发) for centuries, so the people of Pompeii felt safe。

But they were not.
In August of A。

D。

79, Mount Vesuvius erupted. The entire top of the mountain exploded, and a huge black cloud rose into the air。

Soon stones and hot ash began to fall on Pompeii. When the eruption ended two days later, Pompeii was buried under 20 feet of stones and ashes. Almost all of its people were dead。

For centuries,Pompeii lay buried under stone and ash. Then, in the year 1861,an Italian scientist named Ginseppe began to uncover Pompeii. Slowly, carefully, Ginseppe and his men dug. The city looked almost the same as it had looked in A.D.79。

There were streets and fountains, houses and shops. There was a stadium with 20,000 seats. Perhaps the most important of all, there were everyday objects, which tell us a great deal about the people who lived in Pompeii。

Many glasses and jars had some dark blue colour in the bottom,so we know that the people of Pompeii liked wine. They liked bread, too; metal bread pans were in every bakery。

In one bakery there were 81 round, flat loaves of bread -a type of bread that is still sold in Italy today。

Tiny boxes filled with a dark, shiny powder tell us that women liked to wear eye-makeup.
Ginseppe has died, but his work continues. One—fourth has not been uncovered yet. Scientists are still digging, still making discoveries that draw the tourists to Pompeii.
68. Why do large numbers of people come to Pompeii each year?
A. To visit the volcano。

B。

To shop and eat there.
C。

To watch sports and plays. D. To see how Pompeiians lived。

69. Why had so many Pompeiians remained by volcanic Mount Vesuvius?
A. The city nearby offered all kinds of fun.
B. The area produced the finest wine in Italy。

C。

Few people expected the volcano to erupt again.
D。

The mountain was beautiful and covered with grass.
70。

Why did the city uncovered look almost the same as it had looked in A。

D.79?
A。

Because Ginseppe and his men dug it slowly and carefully。

B。

Because the city was buried alive and remained untouched。

C。

Because scientists successfully rebuilt the city with everyday objects.
D. Because nobody had lived in the city ever since the volcano erupted。

71. What do we know about the Pompeiians who lived 2,000 years ago?
A。

They lived more or less the same as Italians now do.
B。

They liked women wearing all kinds of makeup.
C。

They enjoyed a lazy life with drinking and eating。

D. They went back to Pompeii after the eruption in A. D。

79.
D
Knowing about yourself means not only that you find out what you're good at and what you like, it also means discovering what you’re not good at and what you don’t like. Both help you to see your aim(目标)in life.
Although most students would be unhappy if they found that they had failed a very difficult physics examination, they have in fact learned a lot about themselves. They know that they should not become engineers or physical scientists。

So failing can help a student to live a much happier life if he or she draws something out of the failing. They may then decide on their aims and choose the kind of work they would be fit for and they would like to do。

It is impossible to decide whether or not you like something until you have tried it。

If you decide that you would like to play the piano, you need to take more than one lesson before you can know whether you are really interested in it or you are able to do well. It is not enough to want to be a great pianist. You also have to like the hard practice and long training before you become one。

If you would enjoy being a great pianist but hate the work, forget it。

It’s a good plan to try as many ideas as possible when you are still young. And then you will be able to find out what your true interests are.
72. If you say you really know yourself,。

A. you know what you don't like
B。

you know what you are good at
C. you have no interest in your work
D. you've got the whole picture of yourself
73. Failing can turn into something good .
A。

if you have aim in life B。

if your decision is fight
C。

if you lead a happier life D。

if you learn something from it
74. The writer suggests 。

A. failure is a better mirror
B。

Success is more helpful
C. pianists often don’t like their job
D. physics can help students live a better life
75. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
A。

Test ideas,compare and then decide.
B。

People always make decisions in a hurry。

C. The more experiences, the better decision you will have。

D。

You have enough time before you come to a wise decision。

第三节写作(共1题,共计10分)
One possible version:
Travel
Travel is a very good activity. When you are tired of your work or your study,or when you are free, you can go to a beautiful place to enjoy the beauty of nature。

At the same time, you can breathe fresh air, and make some friends when travelling.
But sometimes it is not a good thing. The weather often changes。

You may be caught in the rain。

What’s worse, you may catch a cold while you are travelling。

Therefore, you should know about the weather there, preparing youself carefully before the trip。

As far as I'm concerned, you'd better find a companion so that you can help each other, which will also add to the pleasure of the trip。
