As we walked in, the first thing we saw was the massive dinosaur skeleton in the main lobby. It must have been over 20 feet tall! Our teacher Mrs. Wilson had to quiet us all down because we got pretty loud looking at it.Then we split up into smaller groups with a museum guide to start exploring the different exhibits. Sam and I were in Mr. Henderson's group, and he took us to the physics section first. There were all these hands-on stations where you could play with levers, pulleys, springs, and more to learn about forces andmotion. I really liked the air cannon that could launch a plastic ball across the room. Getting to experiment with the physics concepts we learned in class was awesome.Next up was the biology area, which had tons of displays about cells, DNA, the human body, plants, and animals. There were all these different stations set up where you could do simple experiments mixing substances together, seeing reactions, and even making slime! I mixed up a glowing solution that was super cool under the black lights. In the maker space, they had 3D printers, coding games, and places to build simple robots and circuits. Sam spent forever at the robot soccer table, since he's really into that kind of stuff. I honestly could have spent the whole day just in those two areas.But we still had the space and aviation zone to see next! This was probably my favorite part of the whole museum. There were real space rockets, space suits, and meteorites to look at. Best of all, they had a replica of the International Space Station you could go inside and experience what it's like to live in zero gravity. The flight simulator rides were also incredible - it felt like I was really piloting a jet! Some of the other kids got a little queasy from all the motion, but not me.By the time we finished in the space zone, we only had about half an hour before it was time to meet back at the entrance and get on the bus. On our way out, we went through the museum gift shop. I convinced my parents to get me a glow-in-the-dark planet lamp, which is now my new favorite thing.The bus ride home felt a lot quicker since we were all pretty tired from walking around all day. Still, Sam and I kept looking at the free passes we got to come back again and planning what we wanted to see next time. A few kids even fell asleep!Overall, it was one of the best field trips ever. I learned so much cool stuff about science, but in a really fun and interactive way. The exhibits were educational but also entertaining. I can't wait until our next big trip! Maybe we'll get to go to the natural history museum or even a science camp over the summer.Getting to experience science outside the classroom is the best way to learn in my opinion.
