Reading:Genetic modifications, a process used to change an organism's genes and hence its characteristics, is now being used to improve trees. Through genetic modification, it is possible to create trees that produce more fruit, grow faster, or withstand adverse conditions. Planning genetically modified trees on a large scale promises to bring a number of benefits.First, genetically modified trees are designed to be hardier than natural trees; that is, they are more likely to survive than their unmodified counterparts. In Hawaii, for example, a new pest-resistant species of payapa tree has been developed in response to ringshot virus infections that have repeatedly damaged the native papaya-tree population. Planning the genetically modified papayas has largely put an end to the ringshot problem. Moreover, genetically modified trees promise to bring a number of economic benefits to those who grow then. Genetically modified trees tend to grow faster, give greater yields of food, fruit, or other products- and be hardier. This allows tree farmers to get faster and greater returns on their farming investment and save on pesticides as well. [hardy: resistant to cold, 耐寒]Finally, the use of genetically modified trees can prevent overexploitation of wild trees. Because of the growing demand for firewood or building timber, many forests around the world are being cut down faster than they can be replaced. Introducing genetically modified trees designed for fast growth and highyield in given geographic conditions would satisfy the demand for wood in many of those areas and save the endangered native trees, which often include unique or rare species.Lecture:Sure, there are some benefits of planting genetically modified trees, but are these trees really as great as they first sound? When you examine the subject closely, here are some serious problems and costs associated with using genetically modified trees.First, genetically modified trees may be resistant to one particular condition, but that does not necessarily ensure their survival. You see, a typical non-modified tree population is genetically diverse. That means that, for most threatening conditions, for climates, insects and other pests, whatever, there will be at least some individual trees or any given species of trees that are resisted. So even if most of one kind of tree are killed, those few resisted ones will survive and ensure the survival of that species of tree. But genetically modified trees are genetically much more uniformed, so if they are exposed to an environmental challenge they have not been designed for, they will all die. So if the climate changes or a new pest invades the area, the genetically modified trees will likely be completely wiped out.Now as the second point, there are hidden costs associated with growing genetically modified trees. You see, the companies that genetically modified the trees tend to charge farmers much more for each seed than unmodified tree seeds would cost. Also, as you've grown the tree, you cannot collect the seeds and plant a new tree for free. By law, you have to pay the company every time you plant. And finally, genetically modified trees might actually cause even more damage to the local wild trees. You see, genetically modified trees are often grown more aggressively than natural trees do. And genetically modified trees are typically planted among natural trees. As a result, the genetically modified trees out compete the native trees for resources: sunlight, soil, nutrients and water, eventually crowding out the natural trees.Integrated writing sample essay:The professor claims that there are serious problems and costs associated with planting genetically modified trees, challenging the view in the reading passage that planting genetically modified trees on a large scale promises to bring tremendous benefits.First, the passage says that genetic modification is a good way to protect the trees against harsh natural conditions or possible infections because they are designed to be hardier. However, the lecturer claims that genetic modification does not ensure their survival because these trees are genetically more unified. So, if their genes are not designed for a particular condition, such as climate change or invasion of new pests, they might be eradicated altogether.Second, the passage says that genetically modified trees tend to grow faster, give more fruits and therefore provide greater financial returns for the growers. However, the lecturer points out that this is not the whole picture, because the seeds of genetically modified trees are more costly and the law requires farmers to pay for the company for every genetically modified tree that is planted. Finally, the passage says that genetic modification is a good solution for the protection of wild trees from overexploitation. But the professor points out that these trees are genetically more aggressive and typically planted among the natural trees. They might out compete the natural trees for natural resources and eventually edge them out. For future career success, is the ability to relate well to other people more important than studying hard at school?1P: 咩个人都渴望获得success,但成功需要付出extraordinary efforts,而且还需要an element of luck和一定的社会关系;因为这是一个强调团队合作和cooperation的时代。

托福TPO21独⽴写作题⽬原⽂:Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? For success in a future job, the ability to relate well to people is more important than studying hard in school.Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.托福TPO21独⽴写作满分范⽂:Everyone in the society is seeking for success in career, but what is the key factor of becoming successful? There are two choices – good networking and hardworking. Although someone tend to choose the first aspect, I definitely agree that hardworking at school should be a key factor of success. Without hardworking at school, success in the future cannot be guaranteed. To gain success in our future career, we must have solid knowledge of the field we choose. Under this circumstance, doing hard at school is the best way to quip ourselves with background knowledge. Although sometimes we may find things we have studied at school sort of unpractical, it is basic to handle real problems at work. Take myself as an example; I am now a senior major in journalism. I studied how to interview, how to write summaries and journals and how to make comments on subjects at school. I worked very hard and in the third year, I got a chance to be anintern in China Economic Daily. During this time, I totally put my knowledge into use and handle the real journalism with only a few problems. If I did not study hard and had no knowledge of journalism, how could I handle this internship?Another thing we can get from our hard work is the way of solving problems. During the time we studied at school, methods of learning and solving problems are also of great importance. These methods can be put into use even when we graduate, since we all have o update our knowledge and solve problems when we are at work. Again take myself as an example, when I did my internship, I had to write down a lot of details of a certain event in just a few minutes. It was really difficult, but since I had found out a method of writing fast at school, I could put down things on paper really efficiently. This method provided a lot of help. While some one may claim that we cannot ignore the importance of networking since a good networking may offer you greater chances to gain success. Anyway, I admit that we cannot get rid of a good networking. However, if we are not studying hard and haveno abilities to do things well, how can people pay attention on us or even provide us good opportunities? Hardworking is basic. All in all, hardworking should be the key factor of becoming successful. It provides foundations of our success in the future.

21 EX In general ,people are living longer now. Discuss the causes of this phenomenon. Use specific reasons and details to develop your essay.Today people are living to be much older than ever before. Some of the main reasons for this are the improved health care and better nutrition available to everyone.Medical care is more available to people. Although not everyone can get the best heath care, everyone can get basic heath care and advice. When people are seriously ill, they can go to a public hospital and be taken care of. Years ago, health care wasn't available to everyone. Some people didn't live near a doctor or a hospital, and others couldn't pay for the care they needed. They made do with herbal medicines or folk remedies. Of course, some of these worked, but not for the more serious diseases. The quality of medical care has improved. That’s also a factor in longevity.Doctors know more now about what causes disease and how to care it ,Years ago, doctors only knew about the most basic diseases and cures. Medicine was not very advanced. You could die from something as simple as an infection from a cut. Now we have antibiotics and other medicines to help cure infections.People are also living longer now because of better nutrition. We 're eating better and more healthfully than we used to .That's reduced the number of people with heart disease and cancer. We try to eat low-fat foods and eat more vegetable and fruits ,which are now available year-round.Improved medical care and healthy eating habits has greatly expanded our life spans. What we need to do now is make sure that everyone in the world has these benefits.22 Ex We all work or will work in our jobs with many different kinds of people, in your opinion ,what are some important characteristics of a co-worker (someone you work closely with)?Use reasons and specific example to explain why these characteristics are important. We spend more time with our co-workers during a week than we do with our family, Thus, it’s importan t for our co-workers to be people we can get along with. I’ve worked in a lot of offices, and I've found there are certain characteristics that all good co-workers have in common.A good co-worker is very cooperative, She does her best to get along with others. She tries to keep her end of things flowing smoothly to help others in the office. She realizes that if one person doesn't get her work done, it can hold up everyone else. She has a positive attitude that creates a pleasant working environment.A good co-worker is adaptable. She is not stubborn about changes in schedules or routines, and doesn't object to having her job description revised. That can make life miserable for everyone around her. A good co-worker is willing to change her scheduleto accommodate another worker's emergency, She has no problem with new procedures and welcomes changes when they come.A good co-worker is helpful. She pitches in when someone falls behind in his or her work. She’s willing to do whatever it takes to g et the job done. She doesn't keep track of how often she has to finish another's work or take on extra work. Some co-workers do their own job, period. They have no sense of office community. They only want to dotheir work, get paid and go home.A good co-worker is a sympathetic listener, and never uses what she learns against people. she doesn’t gossip. A bad co-worker uses negative rumors to take advantage of others.Being a good co-worker isn't too hard, but some people just can't seem to manage it. Wouldn’t it be a wonderful world if everyone could?23 AD Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Sometimes it is better not to tell the truth .Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.I agree that sometimes it is better not to tell the truth. In some cases the truth isgoing to hurt someone and no good will be gained by it. If so, then I don't think that person should be told the truth. There are times when a person needs to know the truthin order to make an important decision, There are also times when telling the truth is the only way to help someone who's being self-destructive. However, often telling the truth only benefits the teller, not the person being told.If someone has said something nasty about a person, those words don't need to be repeated. However, what if a person has told a shameful secret to a friend, and that friend has told the secret to others? Then that person needs to know that she can't trust her friend, Otherwise ,she might tell that friend other secrets. What if someone is doing something self-destructive, like partying all night in college instead of studying? Then he needs to be told that this behavior is upsetting his friend who are worried about him. However, if he skips class and teacher asks his friend whyhe isn't there, it’s not necessary for the friend to tell the truth. He doesn't have to be, but he also doesn't have to give information about his friend's behavior.Sometimes people needs to know the truth before they can make an important decision. Suppose you're selling your house and you know there's water in the basement. Then you should tell the truth about that to anyone interesting in buying your house. If you don’t, you could be in trouble legally as well as ethic ally! However, you don't need to tell the truth about the cranky neighbor who lives next door. The neighbor may not be as cranky with someone else as he was with you. Sometimes It's better not to tell.24 AD In some countries, teenager have jobs while they are still srudents. Do you think this is a good idea? Support your opinion by using specific reasons and details.I don't think it is a good ideas for teenagers to have jobs while they are still students. It can interfere with their studies, It can disrupt their home life, and it takes away part of their childhood that their can never replace.Education today is very complex and difficult .In order to learn and get good grades, a student must work very hard and concentrate, This means attending classes from early in the morning until late afternoon, then doing research for projects, then going homeand doing homework. It’s a busy schedule for everyone. For someone trying to hold down a job, it’s even harder. Students need all their energy for thei r studies. If they're working after class at night, they’re going to be tired the next day. They won't be able to concentrate. This will have a negative impact on their learning, and eventually on their grades.Having a job can also disrupt a teenager's home life. Families spend less and less time together. If a teenager has a job to go to after school, he won't be home for dinner. He won't be home after dinner either, and may not get home until late at night, This means he doesn't have a lot of time to spend with his family .If he doesn't have a car, it can mean changes in his parents' schedule ,too. They have to drive him to work and pick him up.The main drawback of a teenager having a job while he's still a student is that he's missing out on the fun of being young. He has a whole lifetime in which he'll have to earn a living. This is the last free time he'll have, It’s the last chance he'll have to hang out with friends and just enjoy himself. Soon enough he'll have to worry about paying the rent and buying food.Jobs bring money, but money isn't everything. A teenager with a job gives us too much. No one should spend all his time at working, and especially not a teenager.25 PR A person you know is planning to move to your town or city .What do you think this person would like and dislike about living in your town or city? Why? Use specific reasons and details to develop your essay.A friend of mine from college is moving to my city, so I have been thinking about what she would an d wouldn't like about it, I’d say the quality of life here, as far as fun and activities are concerned, is very good. The quality of life isn't very good, though, in otherimportant ways.Living in a lager city is exciting, but you pay a price for it. There are lots of interesting things to do, and good restaurants with food from around the world. There are museums, art galleries, and lots of movie theaters. However. the crime rate is high, and people have to be careful about where they go at night. There's a lot of traffic most of the time, and finding a parking space can be a problem. There are also a lot of people living here. Sometimes it feels too crowded. In a big city like mine, housing is very expensive. If costs a lot even if you're just renting an efficiency apartment. The good side is that there's a lot of choice about where you want to live and how you want to live. You can find apartment of all sizes in different settings. Houses of equal variety are available for sale or rent.If my friend likes the great outdoors, she might be disappointed. Unfortunately, my city doesn't have a lot of wide open green spaces, and there aren't a lot of trees on the streets. We're not near the ocean, and the mountains are a day's drive from here. Still, we do have some natural areas. For example, we have a beautiful big park. It even has a lake in the middle that's used for ice skating in the winter. There’s a different kind of beauty in the city.Thinking about it, I suppose whether my friend likes my city will depend on whether or not she likes exciting places. I hope she likes a lot of variety as far as housing and activities are concerned. If she does, then this is the place for her.26 AD It has recently been announced that large shopping center may be built in your neighborhood. Do you support or oppose this plan? Why? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer. There would be both advantages and disadvantages to having a shopping center built in my neighborhood. One advantage would be the convenience. I would like to have all those stores close by. Shopping would be much easier and faster because I wouldn't have to drive great distances to get to the stores.A shopping center would mean more choices, because there would be more stores selling different products. I might have a movie theater nearby, because so many shopping centers these days include movie theaters in their plans. Most shopping centers also have restaurants and a food court. That means a greater variety of places to eat in our area.Having a shopping center built in the neighborhood would also mean more jobs for the community. Initially, these jobs would be in the building of the center. Later the jobs would be in the stores, theaters, and food establishments.Of course, these would be some disadvantages, too. Probably the biggest problem would be traffic. A lot of people would be coming to the shopping center. They’d drive through our neighborhood to get to the center. In addition, if there wasn't enough parking at the center, they might look for parking space near our homes.A shopping center might also invite more crime into our neighborhood. Parking lots after dark are a big temptation to robbers. They know people are there with money to spend. The shopping center might also become a place where unruly teenagers would gather. This could cause trouble. Our town would need a community center for them to go to instead. On the whole, though, I think my neighborhood should support having a shopping center built here, It would bring more variety to our shopping, give us the opportunity to amuse ourselves at movies theaters and restaurants, and bring more jobs into the area.27 AD It has recently been announced that a new movies theater may be built in your neighborhood. Do you support or oppose this plan? Why? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer. Some people will say that a new movie theater in our neighborhood would be a bad thing. However, I fully support the plan to build one. I feel that a movie theater wouldbring more opportunities for recreation, reduce teenage delinquency, and lead to several improvements in the town.As it stands, there is little to do in my town. There are no parks here, and there is certainly no nightlife. Additionally, the nearest movies theater is more than thirty minutes away. That is inconvenient for everyone here. Many movies end late at night. Who want to a long drive home at 11:30 p.m. or midnight?Building a new movie theater here will reduce juvenile delinquency, Like everyone else, teens here are bored. They need activities to keep them busy and out of trouble. The jobs that the theatre will provide will help teens, too. We need more businesses that are willing and eager to employ young people.Overall, the new theater will bring many improvements to the town, For example, it will help other businesses. That is because the movie theater will attract customers from neighboring towns. Those neighbors do not have a reason to come to this town now. However, if they are coming here for a movies, they will be more likely to stay here to shop. If we get more visitors, we’ll need better roads. While this may be costly, it will also make travel easier for people living here. We will be able to get around faster, Safety will be improved with the new roads, because they will be in better condition than many that we have now.I believe that our town needs a new movie theater. Again, I support it fully, I hope that others in our community will join me to convince residents and local government.28 AD Do you agree or disagree with the following statement ?People should sometimes do things that they do not enjoying doing. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.I agree that people should sometimes do things that they don't enjoy doing. This is a basic part of being an adult. Plus, some things that aren't "fun" are still good for us in the long run.Take personal tasks. Who enjoys going to the dentist? Very few people enjoy having their annual check-up with the doctor. Not a lot of people enjoy changing the oil in their car or moving their lawns. These are all things we do because we have to, not because we want to .We realize that taking care of our physical health is the sensible thing to do .We know that if we don't change the oil in our cars, our cars won't run. We understand that grass grows and if we don't mow it, our lawns will look like tropical forests.Professional tasked are another part of the same equation. No one likes to be stuck with a boring assignment or to be told we have to work with someone no one else gets along with. Sometimes we have to put up with unfair criticism from a supervisor or resentment from those we supervise. If we're in management., we may have had the unpleasant task of having to fire someone. None of these are fun things, Unfortunately, they’re all part of earning a living, something the majority of adults have to do.On the other hand, sometimes doing some thing we don't enjoy doing can lead to enjoyment. Simply by trying it again, we may decide we like doing it .for instance, we may have convinces ourselves we hate to dance. We agree to go to a club only to please someone else. Yet, for some reason, this time we enjoying dancing. We’ve been cheating ourselves of enjoyment without even knowing it. The same can be true of trying new foods or a new type of museum.Doing what we don't enjoy doesn’t always have to be a bother, does it? It’s just part of life.29 AD Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Television, newspapers, magazines, and other media pay too much attention to the personal lives of famous people such as public figures and celebrities. Use specific reasons and details to explain your opinion.I think the media pay too much attention to the private lives of famous people. Television, newspaper magazines and web sites dig up all kinds of past bad actions. They say that these are true reflections of a person's character. This may be true if they occurred only a few years before, but some of these are things people did as teenagers. People in their forties are expected to explain something they did when they were fifteen. If they killed someone, obviously that's more than a youthful mistake. Usually, though, these incidents involve experiments with drugs or being reckless in a car. They're not something that the public needs to know. The media love to say that the public has a right to know. That's not true. We don't need to know if a movie star or politician has had an extramarital affair. That is something of concern only to the people involved. We do need to know if someone we're electing to public office has been involved in shady business deals, but we don't need to know if he or she defaulted on a loan twenty years ago.It seems the media dig up these facts without giving thoughtful consideration to what might happen. It has an effect on the celebrity's family, especially the children. A celebrity's good name and credibility may be ruined before he or she can prove that rumors are false. If a case goes to court, paying a lawyer can use up all their money. Even if it doesn't come to that, they may find their career ruined. When are we, the public, going to make it clear to the media that we're tired of having to watch this kind of thing on the news? Wouldn't it be better if they would concentrate on more important issues?30 PR Some people believe that the Earth is being harmed(damaged) by human activity. Others that human activity makes the Earth a better place to live. What is your opinion? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. The quality of human life has improved greatly over the past few centuries, but Earth is being harmed more and more by human activity. As we develop our technology, we demand more from our planet. Eventually, this will harm people as well. Our planet gives us everything we need, but natural resources are not endless. Strip mining devastates whole regions, leaving bare and useless ground. Deforestation removes old growth trees that can't be replaced. Too much fishing may harm fish populations to the point where they can't recover. We are too careless in taking what we want without giving anything back. There are more people than ever, living longer that ever. So is it any surprise that many areas suffer from too much development? Anyone living in or near a city has experienced "urban sprawl". There is a new shopping area on every corner and new houses, townhouses and apartments everywhere. Traffic gets worse and worse because planners can't keep up with growth. Keeping up with human demand is hard enough. Environmental concerns come in last. With growth comes pollution. Companies and communities dump waste into water. Landfills are full of trash. Emissions from factories pollute the air. Barrels of industrial waste and worse, radioactive waste, have no safe place to go. If we're not careful, we can harmour planet beyond repair.People need to respect the Earth and try to preserve it. If we don't, what kind of future will we have?。

Different jobs have different requirements. Some professions like medical research and art performance demand more technical know-how than social skills, so I disagree with the opinion that the capability to socialize outweighs studying diligently in school.严师对开头的点评:很沉稳的开头,ability to relate well to people被换成capability to socialize;studying hard 被换成studying diligently; more important than 被换成 outweigh; 另外technical know-how也是很好的特色用词。

21. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? For success in a future job, the ability to relate well to people is more important than studying hard in school. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. As a student in a complex society, we should learn the necessary knowledge in the school as well as the capability to relate well with other people. It is too simplistic to say which is more important between social skills and learning ability. I agree with this statement with reserved for several reasons. However, in terms of job, I prefer the ability to relate well to people is more essential in the long run than studying hard.Admittedly, as a student in school, the primarily purpose is studying and acquire the basic knowledge. This is because this learning ability will lay a solid foundation for our future development even though we probably forget most of them. Otherwise, the social skills in the future job is like a building a skyscraper lack of cement and bricks. Take a business negotiation as an example. You can not achieve a great success only with your negotiation skills when you deal with others in the situation that you lack expertise knowledge about your product. Therefore, I regard studying in school as the foundation to your future success.Further, the meaning of the ability to relate well to people in the job is significantly outweigh the specific knowledge you acquired. Specifically, everyone is interrelated and interdependent with others and this relationship requires you should equip with sophisticated communicating skills and social skills if you want to be a remarkable person in your job. This could be best illustrated with my country's culture. There is an old saying in my country: drinking ability is more essential than price in a business deal. Therefore, with deep-rooted intertwine relationship among this society; you must have the ability to relate well with your partner or companion beside your basic knowledge. What is more, there are lots of tasks that could be accomplished by different kinds of specialist and proficient. Nevertheless, to be a success leader in job, you must have the ability to communicate and coordinate with your team members with your sophisticated skills. According to the survey, most technology company boss even do not know the basic computer knowledge but they can be the boss and made their company increasingly giant due to their ability to relate well to people. That is to say, studying hard in school could make you require expertise in one domain but you never could be a great leader if you lacking the ability of social skills.Having considered all the discussion above, both of these aspects are crucial to a person's success in the future job, but I suppose that the former capability could make you fulfill higher achievement.。

Use specific reasons and examples to support your choice..范文I think the most important discovery that has been the most beneficial for people in my country is the invention of Internet. So far as I can tell, the Internet has been beneficial to people around the globe. My view is a commonsense one, based on the fact that the Web is a vast storehouse of information and opinion, which can be scientific, literary, political, sporting or sexual. Anyone with access to a computer and a dialup connection can unlock the door and trawl through its offerings. The Internet can be used as a broad base of knowledge that contributes to the educational system. Students and teachers benefit from the use of the Internet, as well as administrators and others outside of formal education. Students benefit because the Internet provides a resource to supplemental information for any subject. Educators benefit because the Internet provides a vast knowledge base to prepare for topics. People are not only learning from the Internet, they are contributing and sharing knowledge through networked communities. The Internet is the advancement of education for all its users.Internet can deliver better customer services to people. The Internet is changing the way we do business. Using Internet broadcasting, we are able to target the right audience, prepare and present a technical presentation on a popular topic, interact with new customers, and collect hundreds of highly qualified leads. As Internet companies continue to find innovative ways to leverage the capabilities of the Internet for businesses, the more we will learn how to provide optimal solutionsfor customers. Which in turn, will greatly benefit people. The Internet today is a way to transfer and share information. On the whole, it is a benefit to individuals of all kinds. We do have problems surrounding the Internet that need to be solved, but as with all new technologies there are debates and opinions. Since the Internet technology is spreading, it will soon become as popular as all other forms of communication. If you have not tried it, do so. If you could go back to some time and place in the past, when and where would you go? Why? Use specific reasons and details to support your choice.范文Till now, there is only one thing that makes me feel repentant of. My girlfriend died in Japan, and at that time I was doing my TOEFL test. If I could go back to some time and place in the past, I chooseto go back to January 19th 2002...I will use a story to show the reasons for choosing this time in the past. My girlfriend's was Christina. Her father is Japanese, and her mother is Chinese. That is why she looks as beautiful as an angel. Last winter vacation, I was preparing for the TOEFL test. Of course, I did not pay enough time for her as usual. I only saw her for twice a month. The night before the TOEFL test, she came to my house. I enjoyed her cooking, and everything looked fine as usual. The next morning, she cooked the breakfast for me.Before I left, she kissed me and said " Jackey, good luck. I love you!" I replied:"Thanks, honey! I love you, too." The test goes fine. After the test, my cell phone rang as I turned it on. It is one of my best friends Moon. He said " Jackey, Christina went back to Japan. She tried to kill herself. Now she is in the hospital and she isin danger period. You must arrive to the airport in three minutes. The visa, passport and the air ticket are in the car. You have to come to Japan right now. We will see you in Japan!"When I saw her, she said," I think your business is more important than me. I do not think you need me any more! Goodbye, forever." She sleeps forever. If I go back to the time, I will stay with her and spend much more time on her. I even can drop my business. In fact, it is impossible for backing that time! Christina is died. There is not another Christina for me, but will have four times per year for the TOEFL test. The lost would never be back. Some people prefer to get up early in the morning and start the day's work. Others prefer to get up later in the day and work untillate at night. Which do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examplesto support your choice.范文Some people prefer to get up early in the morning and start the day’s work. Others, however, prefer to get up later in the day and work until late at night. As far as I am concerned, getting up early is a good habit because it is good for health and is easy to take care of everyday works. In the first place, everyone knows that getting up early is a very good habit for our health. You can enjoy the fresh air in the early morning, and also you can get a good night sleep during the quiet midnight time. Moreover, if you get up early, before go to work, you still have enough time to do some exercises, such as walking, running and riding the bike. Without doubt, all of the exercises do help your health. In the second place, it is a little bit easy to take care of everyday works if people get up early. For example, if everyone in the family gets up early, wife will have enough time to prepare the breakfast for the whole family, children will have enough time to catch the school bus, husband will never forget to change his dirty shirt. Everything is on the order.Admittedly, some people who work until midnight and get uplater in the day claim that working in the midnight is more efficient and can concentrate the work without distraction. However, the advantages of getting up early carry more weight than those of getting up later. To sum up, from what I have discussed above, we can safely draw a conclusion that getting up early can benefit not only because it is good for ours health but also it is easy for us to take care of everyday works. Therefore, I prefer to get up early in the morning and start the day's work.。

TPO 21ReadingGenetic modification, a process used to change an organism’s genes andhence its characteristics, is now being used to improve trees through genetic modification. It is possible to create trees that produce more fruit, grow faster, or withstand adverse conditions. Planting genetically modified trees on a large scale promises to bring a number of benefits.First, genetically modified trees are designed to be hardier than nature trees; that is, they are more likely to survive than their unmodified counterparts. In Hawaii, for example, a new pest-resistant species of papaya trees has been developed in response to ring spot virus infections that have repeatedly damaged the native papaya tree population. Planting the genetically modified papayas has largely put an end to the ring spot problem. Moreover, genetically modified trees promise to bring a number of economic benefits to those who grow them. Genetically modified trees tend to grow faster, give greater yields of food, fruit, or other products and be hardier. This allows tree farmer to get faster and greater returns on their farming investment and save on pesticides as well. Finally, the use of genetically modified trees can prevent overexploitationof wild trees. Because of the growing demand for firewood and building timber, many forests around the world are being cut down faster than they can be replaced. Introducing genetically modified trees, designed for fast growth and high yield in given geographic conditions, would satisfy the demand for wood inmany of those areas and save the endangered native trees, which often include unique or rare species.ListeningSure, there are some benefits to plant genetically modified trees, but, are these trees as really great as they first sound? When you examine the subject firstly, there are some serious problems and costs associated with genetically modified trees.First, genetically modified trees may be resistant to one particular condition. But that doesn’t necessarily ensure their survival. You see, a typical non modified trees’ population is genetically diverse. That means that for most threatening conditions, or climate, whatever, there will be at least some individual tress of any given species of tree that are resistant. So even if most of one kind of trees are killed, those few resistant tress will survive and ensure the survival of that species of tree. But genetically modified trees are genetically much more uniform. So if they’re exposed to an environmental challenge they have not been designed for, they all die. So if the climate changes, the genetically modified trees will likely to be completely wiped out.Now as to the second point, they’re hidden costs associated withgenetically modified trees. You see, the company that genetically modify the tree can charge tree farmers more for its seeds than un- genetically modified trees would cost. Also, as you’ve grown the tree, you can’t just collect the seeds and plant the new tree for free. By law, you have to pay the company every。

Because of the growing demand for firewood or building timber, many forests around the world are being cut down faster than they can be replaced. Introducing genetically modified trees designed for fast growth and high yield in given geographic conditions would satisfy the demand for wood in many of those areas and save the endangered native trees, which often include unique or rare species.Lecture:Sure, there are some benefits of planting genetically modified trees, but are these trees really as great as they first sound?

TPO21: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? For success in a future job, the ability to relate well to相处得好people is more important than studying hard in school.Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.Personally I think, when it comes to the essential requirements for a contemporary college student to succeed in a future job, that both the ability to get along well with people and studying hard in school are crucial. However, I don’t agree with these people who hold t he argument that relating to people well is more significant than working hard in school. I strongly /firmly believe that hard work, which is second to none, is the most critical element for an average student to get a college degree as they scheduled which lays the first stone for their success in a future job.To start with, for fresh graduates, a college diploma acts as a door opener for their very first job career. A bachelor degree is one of the essentially standardized requirements made by employers when they are screening hundreds, if not thousands, of resumes. Undoubtedly, it is particularly momentous for college students to obtain the diploma before they are thought to get ready for entering the workforce and committing themselves. However, it is not easy to get a diploma. In order to get enough credits, we are supposed to complete all the required courses and dozens of projects. I still remember the days and nights when I was sitting in the school library working on research papers trying to meet the deadline. The short yet significant campus years requires one to devote one hundred percent hard work and total dedication. Therefore, hardwork is of essence for one to wade through college years and get his/her degree as was scheduled. In addition, working hard in school cultivates one’s mentality towards study and work other than gives one a desirable academic background. A good mentality is considerably essential for one to get a greater long lasting career success later in life. Take my elder sister as an example. She graduated from Peking University as a first class honor graduate two years ago. She chose to enter one Sino-foreign joint venture accounting firm among other work offers. One of her fellow classmates was admitted to that company as well, who, however, studied sluggishly yet got inconceivable exam results. Nonetheless, their outcomes now are noticeably different. My sister was promoted to be in charge of the Department of Accounting Consultancy Service five months ago. As she acquired a conscientious mentality through her hard working campus years, she demonstrates an intense focus on each task that is assigned to her, which made her superviser feel she was quite trustworthy. Her once fellow classmate though attracted the superviso rs’ attention at first that he showed his cheerfulness to relate to everyone, he would make careless mistakes while he was doing any designated work by his own. Finally, his half hearted mentality thoroughly disappointed the department manager, now he ended up with doing all sorts of leg work for the company.Admittedly, the ability to deal with people is crucial to some extent. In college, we have to interact with our dorm mates, professors, faculty advisors as well as campus staff members with respect to study issues or daily routines. However, relating to people is only among thevarious elements for one to get future career success. Compared with the ability to deal with people, hard work is more fundamental and nucleus for one to be better off.To sum up, I would like to reinforce my standpoint that for success in a future job, hardwork is more important than relating well to people. After all, people assess one’s success through what you have done well and what is your attitude towards work rather than merely how you can relate to different people.。

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is better to take a secure job with a low pay than to take a job with a high pay but is easy to lose.(101031CN=090925NA)Today, many people eagerly seek a high-paying yet insecure job in order to confront the great financial pressures surrounding us, such as soaring living costs. In contrast, others, who are inclined to lead lives of less abundance, prefer jobs with low pay that are more secure. As far as I am concerned, the sort of job an individual seeks should depend on his or her age.The young, who need to prepare for their future lives, can afford to take a stab at jobs with high pay that are high-risk. Young people, full of vigor yet without the burdens of family, are well suited to risky jobs. For example, one of my friends works for a big fund company, earning a high salary in a situation where the competition is fairly severe. Although he works long hours, the rewards he obtains from this job satisfy his demand for a house in the city as well as his need to prepare for a wedding and to support his future family. More importantly, he feels a sense of achievement by succeeding in the face of fierce competition. In this way, the job meets his needs both materially and psychologically.Although a high-salary job might fulfill a person’s desire for a decent lifestyle, such a job is not suitable for middle-aged people who cannotexpend the energy involved in the work and who cannot risk losing their jobs. For example, unemployed people in their 40s and 50s cannot easily find a new job to make a living, as these people, unlike the young, cannot readily gain new skills in a short time, which leads to companies’ reluctance to hire them. When people in this age group who earn high salaries lose their jobs, most of them run into a dilemma, as they are incapable of affording the high cost of raising children. Thus,middle-aged people are not advised to have low-security jobs.In summary, an apparently insecure job with high pay does not meet everyone’s n eeds, and neither does a low-pay, secure job. Only when we become aware of our requirements can we make a wise decision.Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Teaching is harder than it was in the past.I agree that teaching is harder now than it was in the past. There are multiple viewpoints and cultures that have to be considered, it’s harder to keep the attention of contemporary students, and some schools do not have enough money to properly teach certain things.Topics that were discussed in school used to be more straightforward. Whoever was doing the teaching would take the point of view of their own culture (and the culture of his or her students). For instance,American schools used to teach that the explorers who discovered America, like Christopher Columbus, were brave and admirable. American schoolchildren were made to feel simply good about themselves and their country’s history. That must have been easy to teach! But these days, we are so much more sensitive to the stories of other cultures. Teachers have to consider the feelings of the native people that the explorers mistreated and killed, to begin with. With any historical lesson, it is now normal for teachers to sympathize with the oppressed, the women, and the people that for centuries had no voice. And the beliefs of other cultures and countries are explored just as much as the customs of one’s own country. This is a good thing, certainly! But it is more complicated and takes a lot more time to teach. It is also harder to keep the attention of students these days, with so much technology everywhere. In class, they can sneak peeks at their cell phones and text their friends. If they are college students in a lecture hall where laptops are allowed, they might be playing games on their computer rather than taking notes. Students doing their homework on their computer can find the internet to be a distraction. But technology can also be a problem if there isn’t enough of it. The world has come so far in the world of science that a school can greatly suffer if it doesn’t have the proper equipment. What if a biology classcan’t afford microscopes? What if a video editing class can’t afford the latest editing programs? It can be difficult to keep up and that must make teaching harder.Teaching is more difficult today than it was in the past because things are more complicated. Many different viewpoints must be taught, technology can distract students, and yet a lack of proper technology in the classroom can disadvantage students.Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Today people cannot buy products based on information in their advertisements because advertisements are less honest than before.I disagree with this. Although the main goal of advertisements is still to get you to buy their product, I actually think advertisements are more honest than they used to be. They are less sentimental and more blunt, they are more creative, and advertisements for important items like medicine are legally required to tell viewers the facts. Advertisements used to be quite sentimental and corny. They would show a perfect, smiling family gathered around the breakfast table and acting as if bacon was the most wonderful thing in the world. Or an advertisement would show a beautiful housewife desperate to please her handsomehusband by getting his shirts clean. They were just so obviously fake and exaggerated. But these days, advertisements are more blunt andto-the-point. They’ll tell you to buy a certain brand of bacon because it’s c rispy and delicious. They’ll tell you to buy a particular laundry soap because your clothes will look nice. They aren’t promising perfection in your life, just for the products to be pleasant to use. That sounds honest enough. The advertisements of today are also more creative. They show not just one scenario for using a product, but several. A woman could wear her new high heels at work, at a party, out on the town, in class, on vacation, and so on. Once again, none of these claims are outrageous. The ads aren’t saying that women will be overcome with intense joy by their shoes. They’re just mentioning realistic situations that many different women can connect with. The products that one most wants to have honest advertisements are medicines. And I’d say th at they do! In the distant past, there used to be advertisements for tonics and syrups that supposedly could cure tons of different ailments. But they didn’t go into scientific detail in the ads and usually the medicines didn’t actually work. However, in t his day and age, medicine advertisements legally have to tell you of both the benefits and the risks of their products. Unfortunately, sometimes the list of risks goeson for a large portion of the commercial! But at least viewers know that they are gettin g the truth, even if it’s not all good news. That’s why I think advertisements are more honest today than they were in the past. They are more down-to-earth, they are creative with their scenarios, and medicine ads legally have to tell you the facts about their product.Should the government support artists or should artists support themselves? The government should support artists who contribute their skills and talents to improve their community. In my view, art is a necessity for a better quality of life. So, if the government supports artists whose works promote a better quality of life, then our environments will be more beautiful, people will be happier, and we don’t have to worry about “starving artists”.First of all, let’s take a look at our env ironments. If we look outside, we can see so much beauty that accompanies nature. Skilled artists have built sculptures, painted pictures, and drawings that signify the advancements of civilization, and tell a rich story of a culture’s history. These artif acts will become an invaluable part of the history that will be passed down togenerations later. Thus, the beauty that is built today will be honored tomorrow. It’s not just the beauty; it’s how we feel when we look at beauty. The good thing about art is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.Second, people seem to be generally happier when they are able to visualize the things in their environment. Having something pretty to look at generally aids in improving the overall happiness level. For example, if someone is depressed, being able to see a lovely painting or drawing will instantly give them a better feeling, and sometimes a sense of hope. The government should be able to support artists who work to make their environment more comfortable and creative.Third, an even more important reason for the government to support artists is because we have too many “starving artists” who are extremely talented, but who can’t find regular day jobs like other professions. Therefore, their income is often very sp oradic, and unpredictable, so it’s really difficult to budget and make a decent living. The word “starving artists” evokes images of artists who are “dying.” However, what’s really happening is that “art itself” is slowly dying. Therefore, governments can save art and the artists with support that stimulates the environment and the economy. Finally, imagine a world without art. That would be a world with no beauty, and no happiness. That would be a world starving for art. Therefore, to keep our environments beautiful, whether inside or outside, on the floor, wall, or ceiling, it’s imperative that government provide some much needed support for artists who often labor long for little pay. To enable artists to share their gifts and talents and to contribute to the betterment of the community, government support of artists should ensure that we never have to live in a dull, colorless, and shapeless world.。

2008.11.14—Children should only play sports for fun rather than play sports in competitions or contests.

有助于缓解压力(relieve stress),调节心情(improve mood),减少失落的情绪(reduce the chance of depression);5.

2008.12.5—Sports teaches us lessons about life.

2006.11.19—It is more important to choose a subject of your interest than to choose subjects which prepare you for a job or a career.(Education)选自己感兴趣的学科比选有前途的学科更重要(支持该观点)中间段写作思路:(一)Reason 1:因果链接:资源有限—竞争激烈—压力大—就业压力—就业竞争中脱颖而出—有前途的专业(举例)首先:学习对于未来的职业有用的学科之后才能更容易找到工作。

2006.12.8—It is better to learn a broad range of subjects than to specialize in a special subject. (Education)

2006.9.23—The most important education for students should be conducted in classroom or out of the classroom?

2006.10.15—If a person wants to be successful in life, the knowledge gained through study is more important than the ability to be creative.

4.工作类2006.10.22—It is not realistic for people to expect to work at the same company or for the same employer all their lives.(Work)期望一生只为一个老板工作是不现实的(支持该观点)中间段写作思路:中间段一:从老板或者公司的角度讲,他们肯定是不希望他们的员工是一直固定的,因为如果一个公司一直雇佣同一批员工的话,那么在经过一段时间之后,公司会缺乏创造力,长此以往对公司的发展是很不利的。

2006.11.17—Being happy with a job is more important than having a high salary from it.(Work)工作中获得幸福感比银子重要(肯定该观点)中间段写作思路:让步段:金钱是人们生存的最基本要素,而参加工作取得工资是金钱的唯一来源,所以工作中获得银子很重要。

5.环保类2006.12.10—Human needs for farmland, housing and industry are more important than saving land for endangered animals.(Animals)给人类用地比为动物保留栖息地重要(反对该观点)中间段写作思路:(一)Reason 1:人类适应能力强,人类可以在干旱的沙漠中开发出清澈的泉水。
