人教版高二英语下册选修六Unit 1 Art (1) Lesson 1课件 (共60张PPT)
What do you expect to read in this passage?
Painting
Read the passage and get the main idea.
The passage mainly talks about four painting styles, namely the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, Impressionism and Modern Art.
Impression, Sunrise by Monet
The third painting is Impression, Sunrise from Monet. It belongs to Impressionism. In the late 19th century, Europe changed from a mostly agricultural society to a mostly industrial one. Some painters from Paris, called Impressionists, began to work outdoors to show how light and shadow fell on objects at different times of a day. They had to paint quickly so their paintings were not accepted because they thought the paintings were ridiculous and not detailed.
Guernica by Pablo Picasso
The fourth painting is called Guernica by Pablo Picasso. It belongs to Modern Art. It depicted the hopelessness and cruelty of wars. There are scores of Modern Art styles. Paintings of this period are called pure art and they show some abstract ideas and thoughts. Some are abstract as the painters only concentrate on certain qualities of objects, using color, shape and line to represent them. Some paintings are so realistic that they look like photographs.
