KEY SKILLS
Communication I have developed excellent written and oral communication skills which
were demonstrated in a final year project where I developed and
presented a competitive market analysis for an IT start-up and submitted
a 3000 word report on the process. This required researching business
journals, conducting interviews with three IT analysts, a team presentation
to 80 peers and academic staff and a written business report. I achieved a
Distinction for this project and very positive feedback from my lecturer. Teamwork As the President of the UNSW Bushwalking Club, I was faced with rapidly
falling membership rates. Those students who were members were
disgruntled with the committee and threatening to leave. I worked with the
4 members of the committee and developed a six month plan aimed at
revitalising the club and doubling membership. We developed a monthly
timetable of events and publicised these on campus. I wrote 5 lively
articles on the club and our activities and these led to renewed interest
from existing members and a 66% increase in overall membership. Numeracy I have always had an interest in and talent for mathematics and chose to
study Accounting to pursue this interest. My results for all accounting
subjects have been either high credits or distinctions and at high school I
achieved 95% in 3U Maths.
In my position as a sales assistant at Value Supermarkets my 100%
accuracy and speed with the reconciliation of my register has been
commented on by my supervisor.
Analytical In my Probability and Statistics course I had to develop a model to define
the probability of receiving at least one call per day if one received 12
mobile phone calls per week. I developed a model, translated the
information into an equation, converted this into a general understanding
and was able to solve the problem. My tutor was very impressed with my
work and I received a high distinction for the course.
Client Focus In my position at Bib and Bob Accountants I was required to assist the
accountants with the completion of client Business Activity Statements. It
became clear that many clients were using outdated advice and therefore
their calculations were inaccurate and the accountants were spending
significant time in locating and resolving the problems. I liaised with
Australian Taxation Office and developed a list of common mistakes and
the correct advice from the ATO. This information was made available to
all the accountants and published in the client newsletter and helped to
resolve the issue.
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
1999–2001 President
UNSW Bushwalking Club
Introduced monthly program of walks and advertised these through
articles in student publications (Blitz and Tharunka)
Increased membership from 30 to 50 during my presidency due to
outreach activities and publicity
