2018届高三英语(人教版)总复习课时作业23 Word版含答案

课时作业23Ⅰ.阅读理解(2017·海南中学月考)Even as Google plans to test its fleet (车队) of self-driving cars on public roads this summer, its business model remains a bit of a mystery. By 2025, as many as 250,000 self-driving vehicles could be sold each year globally, according to a study by an industry research firm.“Vehicles that can take anyone from A to B at the push of a button could transform mobility for millions of people,” said Chris Urmson, director of Google's self-driving car project. For now, Google has no plans to sell any of its self-driving cars. They are strictly for research. But they will hit public roads this summer near Google's headquarters in Mountain View, California. Previous testing has taken place only on closed courses. The cars are built to operate without a steering wheel, accelerator (油门) or brake pedal. “Our software and sensors do all the work,”Urmson said. “The vehicles will be very basic—we want to learn from them and adapt them as quickly as possible—but they will take you where you want to go at the push of a button.” The prototype (雏形) are the first of a 100-car fleet the tech giant is building. In the long run, Urmson sees a future of safer roads—the majority of auto accidents are caused by human error—and fewer traffic jams. Robotic cars could also shuttle people who can't drive because of age or illness.Google has said that self-driving cars could launch new business models in which people buy the use of vehicles they don't own. Thecompany has already tested other types of self-driving cars on public streets, including modified Lexus sport-utility vehicles, under a special permit program by the California Department of Motor Vehicles that requires a human driver at the controls. The state has issued six other companies permits to operate such cars, including Delphi, Mercedes-Benz, V olkswagen, Tesla, Bosch and Nissan. The vehicles that will be tested on open roads this summer will have removable steering wheels, accelerators and brake pedals to allow “safety drivers” to take control i f needed.Google says the cars are safe. The vehicles have sensors that “can detect objects out to a distance of more than two football fields in all directions, which is especially helpful on busy streets with lots of intersections,” Urmson said. “We're looking forward to learning how the community understands and interacts with the vehicles, and to uncovering challenges that are unique to a fully self-driving vehicle,”Urmson said.1.According to Chris Urmson, ________.A.self-driving cars can give driving orders to humansB.software and sensors are vital for self-driving carsC.self-driving cars are specially designed for the elderlyD.ordinary vehicles will be replaced by self-driving cars2.The passage informs us that self-driving cars ________.A.have already passed necessary testsB.have been purchased by some companiesC.will be able to communicate with driversD.will probably decrease traffic jams3.The underlined word “intersections” in the last paragraph canprobably be replaced by ________.A.crossings B.buildingsC.vehicles D.accidents4.What is the best title for this passage?A.Google's Self-driving Car Graduates to City StreetsB.Google's Self-driving Car Enjoys Global PopularityC.Self-driving Car Meets New ChallengesD.Self-driving Car Avoids Human Errors答案与解析本文为科技说明文。

must children g row out of it.If it happens every night and causes problems, then sleep disorder specialists suggest that parents spend a week noting the time when the sleepwalking tends to happen, and then gently wake the child about fifteen minutes before this time. This will often break the cycle. So what should you do if you find your relative sleepwalking? For a start, they are in such a deep sleep that they will probably not notice you, even if you try to wake them.If you do succeed in waking them, they will becomeyou from deep sleep, instead of the lighter sleep we are usually experiencing by the time our alarms sound.I once had the shock of being woken by a crash and found myself in the kitchen, standing barefoot and surrounded by broken glass.I’d tried to get a glass of water while sleepwalking, but like most sleepwalkers I failed to turn on the light, and had smashed the glass against the tap.Waking a sleepwalker will not cause them to have a heart attack, but the kindest thing to do is not to try to wake them at all.Lead them gently back to bed so that they do not hurt themselves. They will remain deeply asleep, and it is likely that they will not remember a thing in the morning.1.What do the specialists advise the parents to do to avoid their children’s sleepwalking?A.Go to bed with their children at the same time.B.Keep a record of the time when children wake up.C.Take 15 minutes to wake children from sleepwalking.D.Try some time to break the cycle of the sleepwalking.2.When a sleepwalker is suddenly woken,he is most likely to________.A.die from heart Unit 12 Culture Shock(B)Ⅰ.阅读理解The meaning of silence varies among cultural groups.Silences may be thoughtful,or they may be empty when a person has noth ing to say.A silence in a conversation may also show stubbornness, uneasiness,or worry.Silence may be viewed by some cultural groups as extremely uncomfortable;therefore attempts may be made to fill every gap (间隙) with conversation.Persons in other cultural groups value silence and view it as necessary for understanding a person’s needs. Many Native Americans value silence and feel it is a basic part of communicating among people, just as some traditional Chinese and Thai persons do.Therefore, when a person from one of these cultures is speaking and suddenly stops, what may be implied (暗示) is that the person wants the listener to consider what has been said before continuing. In these cultures, silence is a call for reflection.Other cultures may use silence in other ways, particularly when dealing with conflicts among people or in relationships of people with different amounts of power. For example,Russian,French, and Spanish persons may use silence to show agreement between parties about the topic under discussion. However,Mexicans may use silence when instructions are given by a person in authority rather than be rude to that person by arguing with him or her.In still another use, persons in Asian cultures may view silence as a sign of respect, particularly to an elder or a person in authority.Nurses and other care-givers need to be aware of the possible meanings of silence when they come across the personal anxiety their patients may be experiencing.Nurses should recognize their own personal and cultural construction of silence so that a patient’s silence is not interrupted too early or allowed to go on unnec essarily.A nurse who understands the healing (治愈) value of silence can use this understanding to assist in the care of patients from their own and from other cultures.1.What Unit 12 Culture ShockPart 1 阅读完形组合准度练(建议用时40′)Ⅰ.阅读理解(共7小题;每小题2分,满分14分)AA diver from the Isle of Arran (阿伦岛) has won one of the world's most famous environmental awards.Howard Wood is to receive the Goldman Environmental Prize at a ceremony in San Francisco. It is in recognition of his work over 20 years to protect the island's marine environment and allow it to recover. The prize, worth US$175,000,can be used by the winner “to follow their dream of a recovered and protected environment”.Mr.Wood was one of the founders of the Community of Arran Seabed Trust (Coast). He played a key role in the campaign to set up the country's first “notake” zone, which prohibits fishing in part of the island's Lamlash Bay.Mr.Wood said the news had come “completely out of the blue” and that he was very surprised.Speaking before travelling to San Francisco,he said, “The work of Coast goes back to before 1995,when we could see that the sea floor around Arran was being dredged away.We wanted to have a trial area to find out what happens when you close a small area to all fishing. And we finally made it in 2008.” Since then, the notake zone has allowed the sea floor to regenerate.Coast is actively promoting sustainable fishing methods. It has recently led a successful campaign to establish one of Scotland's first marine protected areas (MPAs).Coast is also calling on the Scottish government to introduce tougher restrictions to ensure effective protection for the south Arran marine protected area. However, very few legal measures to manage the damaging effects of fishing have so far been put into place in these areas.Mr.Wood said: “Scotland has a tradition of vested interests controlling access to public marine resources and there is still a great deal of work to do to correct decades of mismanagement. If people really understood how Scotland's marine resources have been destroyed over the years, they would be shocked.”1.Howard Wood received the Goldman Environmental Prize because of.A.his contribution to protecting and regenerating Arran's marine environmentB.his work to found the Community of Arran Seabed TrustC.his contribution to making tougher restrictions on fishingD.his work to set up Scotland's first notake zone2.According to the passage,Coast is an organization that.A.came into being in 1995B.was founded by Howard Wood himselfC.promotes sustainable fishing methodsD.set up Scotland's first marine protected area3.The underlined phrase,“out of the blue”,in the fourth paragraph most probably means.A.out of control B.in short orderC.all of a sudden D.in a bad state4.Which of the following is NOT helpful in protecting Scotland's marine resources?A.More restrictions on marine protected areas.B.Limits on access to public marine resources.C.Proper management of resources.D.The tradition of vested interests.【语篇解读】本文是一篇记叙文,介绍了戈德曼环境奖的获得者Howard Wood为保护环境所做的努力。

入舵市安恙阳光实验学校 Unit 12 Culture Shock 课时练(一) 阅读理解提速练——练速度(限时:35分钟)Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2018·河南洛阳高三第一次统考)All over the world mothers and fathers teach their children manners.Other children may have manners that are not like yours. There are allkinds of manners. Many years ago, children who had good manners were seen and not heard. They kept quite quiet if grownups were talking. Today, wellmanneredchildren have more freedom.Sometimes good manners in one place are bad manners in other places.Suppose you are a visitor in the land of Mongolia. Some friends ask youto eat with them. What kind of manners do they want you to have? Theywant you to give a loud “burp (打嗝)” after you finish eating. Burpingwould show that you like your food. In some countries, if you give a loudburp, you are told to say “Excuse me, please.” In many places peoplelike to eat together. But in some parts of Polynesia it is bad manners to be seen eating at all. People show good manners by turning their backs on others while they eat. What are manners like in an East African town? The people try not to see you. They are being polite. You may see a friend. He may not see you at all. If you are polite, you will sit down beside him. You will wait until he finishes what he is doing. Then he will talk to you. Suppose you visit a friend in Arabia. You should walk behind the other tents until you come to his tent. If you pass in front of the other tents, you will be asked into each one. The people will ask you to eat with them. And it is bad manners if you say no.Manners are different all over the world. But it is good to know that all manners begin in the same way. People need ways to show that they want to be friends.【语篇解读】本文主要介绍了世界上一些地方的礼仪。

Unit 12 Culture Shock(A)
Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
(2017·河南洛阳二模)
I was born and raised in England in a culture where privacy and “keeping
yourself to yourself” were valued traditions.Speaking to strangers was not encouraged.People were most hospitable (好客的) and friendly.
However,I have been lucky enough to spend some time in both Italy and the
US,where I found traditions of hospitality and politeness to be very different.
I experienced Italian hospitality first-hand on a crowded railway carriage travelling, one afternoon, from Genoa to Florence.Sinking gratefully into an empty seat,I was scolded in rapid Italian by a gentleman who was returning to this seat—it had not been “spare” after all.I apologized in English, and got up to allow him back into the seat. The gentleman obviously had no understanding of the English
language, but he,too, realized my genuine (真诚的) mistake. He smiled and gestured for me to remain in the seat, and he himself remained standing in the corridor for the remainder of the journey. The other occupants of the carriage smiled and nodded at me and made me feel quite welcome amongst them.I feel that if this had been in England,a foreigner who made a mistake would not always be so kindly treated.
Transport also featured in the differences I noticed between English and American culture.I flew to New York on a plane with mainly English passengers. We sat together in near silence.Nobody spoke to me nor,as I expected,to anyone else they did not know. They felt it was not polite to interrupt someone else’s privacy.Ho wever, when I travelled across the United States, whether by plane or Greyhound bus,I was never short of conversation.Conversation was going on all around me and whoever sat next to me was happy to introduce themselves and ask me about myself. They obviously felt it would have been rude not to speak to another person, whether they were strangers or not.
1.What do we know about the occupants when the author was travelling in Italy?
A.They were all on the side of the gentleman.
B.They all laughed at the author for his mistake.
C.They would not bear a mistake like the author’s in public.
