前门大栅栏周边的北京老字号如果有人问起北京老字号最为集中的地方是哪儿?恐怕莫过于北京前门大街大栅栏周边一带了。
曾经听一个老北京的朋友得意地说:“不是八辈儿的北京人,那算不上真正的老北京北京前门的北平火车站旧址你要想体会一下老北京尚存的一些商业文化气息,那徜徉前门大栅栏,去看看那些历经了几十年甚至数百年风雨的北京老字号商店、饭店、戏院、电影院等一些场所,那种感受绝对是一种难得的精神享受。
大栅栏街鳞次栉比的老字号商店招牌曾有资料说:“老字号”不仅是一种商贸景观,更重要的是一种历史传统文化现象。
“不到长城非好汉,不吃烤鸭真遗憾”,使“全聚德”成为北京的象征。
而京城民间“歇后语”,如“东来顺的涮羊肉--真叫嫩”、“六必居的抹布--酸甜苦辣都尝过”、“同仁堂的药--货真价实”、“砂锅居的买卖--过午不候”等,生动地表述了这些“老字号”的“品牌”特色。
北京大栅栏西口进口处正是这些不同特色的“老字号”,汇聚成了京城“老字号”大商业文化的魅力。

过去,北京人有“头戴马聚源,脚蹬内联升,身穿八大祥”之说。

北京大栅栏东口入口处今天的大栅栏商业街仍然很热闹大栅栏儿”是北京最古老、最著名且又别具一格的古老街市和繁华的商业闹市区。
该街东起前门大街,西抵煤市街,全长近300米,街道狭窄,两侧店铺、商号麟次栉比,终日人流于此,热闹非凡。
旧时曾有“京师之精华尽在于此,热闹繁华,亦莫过于此”,“繁华市井何处有,大栅栏内去转游”的美誉。
大栅栏街原称廊房四条,距今已有近500年的历史。
明永乐十八年(公元1420年)迁都北京后,为鼓励工商业发展,在正阳门外设市场,修建“廊房”,作为商业铺房,招商开市。
至明中叶嘉靖时,这一地区已逐渐发展成为有名的繁华闹市。
清乾隆年间,于街道两端入口处安置铁制栅栏,故有大栅栏之称,并沿习下来,成为街名。
谦祥益:“三宝”蓝布声名远播
56清末民初,山东章丘孟氏成为中国北方商业的最大资本家族,孟氏家族有一条传奇的血脉,即他们是号称“亚圣”孟子的后人。
孟氏家族的商业遍布北方各大中城市,商店名字大多带一个“祥”字,称“祥”字号,祥字号商店包括绸布店、茶叶店、锅店、金店、钱庄、当铺等。
孟氏家族经营的庞大商业集团,参与构建了人们对传统中国商人辉煌的记忆。
其中的谦祥益,创办于清道光年间(1830年左右),股东孟毓溪是山东省章丘市旧军镇人。
孟毓溪在山东周村开设了第一家布店兼染店的恒祥布店,恒祥经营有道,生意红火。
孟毓溪病故后,其子孟传珠将恒祥改为谦祥益。
谦祥益先后又在北京、济南等大中城市开办分号,达24家之多,而且每开设一分号,即投资白银4万两,可见其实力之强。
它的分号遍布大江南北,形成了一个强大的谦祥益体系。
清光绪十一年,按公历算是1885年,此前江南的汉口布匹市场三种布鼎立,各有千秋,它们是上海产的阴丹士林布、日本产的三洋布,以及汉口本地产的土布。
阴丹士林布与三洋布都是宝蓝色,但阴丹士林布色彩均匀,且不褪色;三洋布色彩一般,褪色,但质地却细腻些;土布是由本地产的土坯布染色而成,色泽斑驳易褪色,织纹粗糙,但便宜耐穿。
这就形成了三种布的不同价位,适应了汉口不同层次的市民需要,因此它们井水不犯河水,并存于汉口的大市场。
但是,1885年以后,这种长期形成的布料市场格局陡然起了变化,原因是北京的谦祥益布店来汉口设立分店了。
老板孟传珠将眼光瞄准了江汉之交的汉口大市场,拨银5万两,将他的独子孟继富派到汉口,筹备第八家分店。
孟继富也的确没有辜负其父的厚望,从他1885年秋在汉口汉正街的仁和街开设谦祥益布店起,到1889年一共才5个年头,就已经让谦祥益生产并销售的宝蓝官布、宝蓝竹布、宝蓝洋布名满汉口,号称三宝蓝布。
其声名远播到荆襄、陕川、湘赣一带,吸引了那儿的客商纷纷来汉口进货。
原来,谦祥益的秘密武器是将民间织的土坯布买回去后,进行重加平整,然后用一种特殊的泥巴将土坯布两面糊平实了,露天晾上两天,然后才三进染缸,轮番上色。

北京作为经济文化中心,拥有许多全国闻名的老字号。
谦祥益北京八大祥绸布店之一,创办于1830年(清道光十年)。
八国联军侵犯北京时,谦祥益也被烧成一片废墟。
谦祥益被迫迁到前门外廊房头条。
新中国成立后,公私合营时,由前门外廊房头条迁至前门大街北口。
谦祥益在解放后改名为北京丝绸商店,已是有实无名了。
瑞增祥也是北京八大祥绸布店之一,由山东济南府章邱县旧军镇孟姓家族经营。
1875年,瑞蚨祥、谦益祥、瑞生祥先后开设分店。
瑞生祥在打磨厂西口外开设的分店称为“瑞增祥”。
民国二十四年(1935年),瑞生祥和瑞增祥先后关门停业。

盛锡福1912年,在天津估衣街开办了盛聚福小帽店。

买衣料去绸布店。
北京的绸布店最有名的是“八大祥”,六家在前门和大栅栏一带。
八家店的店名都带一个“祥”字,这八家绸布店是:瑞蚨祥、瑞林祥、瑞成祥、谦祥益、益和祥、东升祥、丽丰祥。
这最后两家分别位于东四和西四牌楼。
这八家店都是山东章丘县人开办的。
八大祥中瑞蚨祥和谦祥益两家最有名,这两家店的东家都姓孟,是同族,他们的字号先后开设在周村、济南、青岛、烟台、北京、天津、上海。
不仅经营绸布洋货,还是经营钱庄、当铺、药店、茶叶店。
瑞蚨祥的东家孟洛川于光绪十六年(1890年)来到北京,见北京的商业区十分繁华,居民也很多,决定在北京开店。
他派本家兄弟孟觐侯作自已的代理人,到北京开绸布店。
先是开了一家士布批发店,后来又开了一家高档的绸布洋货店。
光绪十九年瑞蚨祥在大栅栏正式开张了。
在激烈的竟争中瑞蚨祥站住了脚,很快就侪身八大祥之中。
刚刚开办了八年,庚子事变中大栅栏里着了一把火,烧毁的商家不计其数,瑞蚨祥也是在劫难逃。
当时许多商家一蹶不振,瑞蚨祥由于资本雄厚,又筹集了八万两银子重新创业,1901年秋天新的瑞蚨祥又开张了,生意仍然非常兴隆。
瑞蚨祥的成功首先在于绸布品种繁多,货真价实,高、中、低档商品齐全,既有适合官僚、富商的绸缎、呢绒、皮毛,也有一般市民、农民穿着的监、白花布。
瑞蚨祥的伙计对待顾客天论贵贱都能热情接待,童叟无欺,当时各家绸布店之间的竟争非常激烈,为了争取顾客,瑞蚨祥专门派人到各家绸布店去,以顾客身份了解商品质量,行情、然后确定自家商品的进货品种和定价,使一般商品的定价低于市价。
紧俏商品高于市价。
瑞蚨祥还印制了精美的礼券,顾客买回去赠送给亲友,亲友可带礼券来店里迭取与面额等值的商品,这样就使送礼人、受礼人都方便了。
瑞蚨祥对一些高官显贵还实行平时购货只帐不收钱,在年底统一结算的办法,使这些人成为瑞蚨祥的大主顾。
瑞蚨祥在内部管理上也很有特点。

北京谦祥益丝绸有限公司(北京丝绸商店),是北京著名的“八大祥”之一。
始建于清朝道光年间(公元1840年)。
它的前身是“恒祥”布店,老板是孟毓溪,店址在山东的周村,后将恒祥染坊更名为谦祥益,在北京开设了谦祥益绸布店,生意极为红火,先后于前门外鲜鱼口建“谦祥益南号”,1882年于前门外珠宝市建“益和祥”,1902年于北京钟鼓楼建“谦祥益北号”,八国联军入侵北京后,前门谦祥益老号被烧毁,1909年前门外廊坊头条重建谦祥益老号。
到清末民初,谦祥益的发展到了鼎盛时期,成为全国规模最大的丝绸布匹店。
解放后,于1951年在北京前门外长巷头条建立了“谦祥益织布厂”。
1955年9月,北京谦祥益纳入公私合营,进行了社会主义改造,谦祥益总店由廊坊头条搬至“益和祥”,即现在所在地。
1978年,原商业部、纺织工业部将其更名为“北京丝绸商店”。
2000年,再次将“北京丝绸商店”恢复为谦祥益。
北京谦祥益店址也被列为北京市文物保护单位。
