Unit 4 Making the news

1. 教材分析

本单元的中心话题是“新闻”,内容涉及新闻工作者应该具备的素质和新闻采访的基本程序等。语言技能和语言知识主要围绕“新闻”这一中心话题进行设计。

2. 教材重组

2.1 将Learning nuw woeds and expressions in u nite 4, Warming Up, Pre-reading,整合成一节准备课

2.2 将Reading与Comprehending整合成两节“精读课”。

2.3 将Learning about Language中的Discovering useful words and expressions与Workbook中的USING WORDS AND EXPRESSIONS整合成一节“词汇课”。

2.4将Learning about Language中的Discovering structures与Workbook中的USING STRUC-TURES整合在一起,上一节“语法课”。

2.5 将Using Language中的Reading和Workbook中的READING TASK整合成一节“泛读课”。

2.6 将Using Language中的Listening and speaking 与Workbook中的LISTENING, TALKING以及LISTENING TASK整合成一节“听说课”。

2,7将Workbook中的SPEAKING TASK及WRITING TASK整合成一节“写作课”。

3. 课型设计与课时分配(经分析教材, 本单元可以用八课时完成。)

The First Period Preparatinn

T eaching goals

1, Enable the students to pronounce the new words corroctly in this unite.

2,Learn about qualities a good journalist has.

Teaching important & difficult points

Help the students to pronounce and learn the nuw words.

Step Ⅰ Lead-in

Greet the whole class as usual. And tell what we shall do in this lesson.

Step Ⅱ Learn the nuw words.

Ask the students to pronounce the words and expressions themselves. Read them out one

by one and see whether they are right or not. Then teacher correct.

Step Ⅲ Warming Up

Work in pairs and discuss the questions in Warming up.

Show the Types of jobs at English newspaper

journalist, editor, reporter, critic,foreign correspondent, photographer, designer

Work in pairs discuss and then give out their answers.

Homework,1 learn nuw words by heart.

The Second and Third Period Reading

T eaching goals

1. T arget language , a. 重点词汇和短语

occupation, photograph, photographer, colleague, eager, concentrate, course, acquire, meanwhile, recorder, case, accuse, deliberately, guilty, concentrate on, accuse ... of, so as to (do sth), defend against,cover a story,have a “nose” for a story, get a scoop, get sth straigh t, a trick of the trade b. 重点句式(P26)

Never will Zhou Y ang forget ... Only when you have seen ..., can you cover a story ... Only if you ask ... will you acquire ...

2. Ability goals

Enable the students to understand the Reading and complete the ezercises in Comprehending. Teaching important & difficult points

Help the students learn about the qualities needed to be a good reporter, how to get an accurate story and how to protect a story from accusation.

Teaching methods

Fast-reading method; task-based method.

The second period

Step Ⅰ Lead-in

Greet the whole class as usual. And then tell the students what we do in this lesson.

Step 2. Fast Reading

Get the students to do fast reading. go through the whole passage as fast as you can and try to find answers to the following three questions.

1. Could Zhou Y ang go out on a story alone immediately? Why (not)?

2. What mistakes must he avoid?

3. How did Zhou Y ang feel on his first day at work?

A couple of minutes later check the answers with the whole class.

Step 3 Comprehending

Get the students to go through the passage again then work in pairs .discuss and do exercises 1,2. in Comprehending on page 27. Ask each group to tell their answers and the teacher check the answers.

The third period Language points

Get the students to read the passage,find the difficult points,work in pairs

Learn from each other then help them find out language poits.
