Travellers in America who want to experience the Wild West can now go to a holiday in the old style to see how the American pioneers travelled and lived.
Today's travellers go by horse wagon like the old-time. They set up camp at night under the stars and learn to cook their meals over fires. They also learn to lead herds of cattle with present day cowboys and try to bring wild horses into a corral (畜栏). For those who just want to pretend halfway, the special holidays offer the chance to “rough it” during the day in the wagons but sleep at night in the comfort of a fan air-conditioned ranch (牧场) complete with a swimming pool, saunas and tennis courts.
In Wyoming the holiday makers will travel by wagon past ghost towns and cemeteries where pioneers and wild cowboys were buried. The route goes along the same track as the Pony Express riders who braved attacks from Indians and robbers to get the mail through to the Wild West. High Island Ranch in Wyoming at the foot of the Rocky Mountains is also an ideal place to go trout fishing and to ride wild horses. In Colorado, the modern-day pioneers can stay at Randy George's ranch and try their hand at breaking-in horses and branding (打烙印) cattle. In New Mexico there will be a chance to help in
driving cattle to their new summer pastures (牧场). Trips last for a week so those taking part get a chance to get a feel for the Wild West as it really was.
()1.What is the author's purpose of writing the passage?
A.To reveal the real life of the Wild West in the old time.
B.To tell the readers what they should prepare for special holidays.
C.To introduce some trips in which people can experience the Wild West.
D.To advertise for the most popular tourist attractions in America.
()2.What does the underlined phrase “rough it” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.Make the travellers comfortable.
B.Live a hard and simple life.
C.Travel everywhere in the wagons.
D.Bring wild horses into a corral.
()3.What can be inferred from Paragraph 3?
A.Travellers will pass ghost towns to visit pioneers and wild cowboys.
B.People are not interested in how the pioneers travelled and lived.
C.It was not easy to deliver the mail to the Wild West in the old time.
D.The pioneers and wild cowboys in the old time led an easy life.

Though it is one of the faded memories of my life today, there are times when I remember his face clearly, especially his eyes. As he had yellow spots on his eyes we called him Spotty. He would have been a stray dog(流浪狗), if he hadn't come to me.
I was seven years old. My dad had just got a new job in Nashik. We had moved into a rented house. It was raining very heavily on the day we moved.
It was a cold dark night. We had our meal and went to sleep. Somehow at midnight I heard some strange sounds outside the main door. I gathered courage and looked out through the window and I was really amused by what I saw outside.
There was a small puppy lying on an old doormat which my mother had put outside the door. It was wet and trembling. At first it was difficult to see the little one. It was
the yellow spots on its eyes that made me realize its presence.
It was trying to get under the doormat to avoid the cold air outside and it had managed to get in as I could see only its head outside the doormat. Was it sick or injured?
I felt pity for the poor soul. I went in and came out with an old towel. I went near the innocent one and held it in my hands and wiped the puppy till he became dry. I took him into my room and made a bed for him with a woolen blanket and a small pillow. He seemed very healthy and comfortable in his new bed as he went to sleep immediately.
The next morning, everyone in the family came to know about the unusual guest.“Shall we keep him with us?” I questioned my mum.
Like any other parents would, my parents first totally refused my idea but my sister and I convinced them to keep Spotty.
Slowly Spotty got on with everyone and became one of the family members. Paragraph 1:

1.achievement
2.successfully
3.to reach
4.ninth
5.led
6.experienced
be experienced in “在……方面有经验”,为固定短语。
7.was selected

根据文章第一段中“Travellers in America who want to experience the Wild West can now go to a holiday in the old style to see how the American pioneers travelled and lived.”
根据第二段中“For those who just want to pretend half-way, the special holidays offer the chance to “rough it” during the day in the wagons but sleep at night in the comfort of a fan air-conditioned ranch (牧场) complete with a swimming pool,
saunas and tennis courts.”
根据第三段中“In Wyoming the holiday makers will travel by wagon past ghost towns and cemeteries where pioneers and wild cowboys were buried. The route goes along the same track as the Pony Express riders who braved attacks from Indians and robbers to get the mail through to the Wild West.”
Ⅳ.第一节
One possible version:
Dear Jack,
How is everything going? I'd like to share my travel experience with you. During the National Day, my parents and I paid a visit to Qingdao, which is a beautiful seaside city.
On the early morning of October 1st, we got to Qingdao by plane. First, we went to the beach and played on the sand. It was the first time that we had seen the sea. In the afternoon, to enjoy various kinds of living things in the sea, we visited Qingdao Underwater World. The next day, we climbed to the top of Mount Lao, where we got a good view of the whole city of Qingdao. Although the visit was short, we had a wonderful time and gained a lot from it.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
Possible version one:
One day, Spotty returned from his daily walk with a broken leg. He came to my room and sat near me,appearing very exhausted. It was then that I saw his hind leg was injured and was bleeding. I called out my mother and she quickly tied a bandage around his leg and gave him food to eat. I was very upset. But the next day, Spotty was up to his usual pranks though he limped a bit. After this incident my relation with Spotty became more intense. I really admired him a lot for his courage.
Almost a year later, one midnight we heard Spotty barking breathlessly. We came out and saw that he was barking continuously, heading somewhere. After some time Spotty became quiet. I patted him on the back and came inside. The next morning, my heart missed a beat when I didn't see Spotty. I searched for him in each and every corner but he was nowhere. And this time he had gone and would never come back. I cried and waited for him. We waited for one long week. But there were no signs of him. Then one day my dad got transferred to Mumbai. We shifted back to Mumbai. What would have happened to Spotty? Would he have been dead? These were the only questions on my mind, but they all remained unanswered forever.
Possible version two:
One day, Spotty returned from his daily walk with a broken leg.“Oh, no!” I let out a loud scream as I saw Spotty limping in with a pained expression on his face. But Spotty seemed to take no notice of me and hid under the bed, his whole body trembling and his eyes full of terror and distrust. It was so unlike him to react like this that for a moment I was at a loss how to coax him into coming to me. Feeling a little upset and furious, I somehow came holding a long stick, trying to drive him out. However, before the stick reached him, Spotty suddenly howled and escaped through the door. In the next few days, we searched everywhere for Spotty, but in vain. Later, we were shocked to learn that a man beat him with a stick when Spotty was approaching a little girl.
Almost a year later, one midnight we heard Spotty barking breathlessly. We rushed out of the house only to see Spotty lying on the doormat, dying. Upon seeing us, Spotty
rose awkwardly to his feet, wagging his tail and his eyes sparkling with excitement. Immediately, I knelt down to hug him and tears began to well up in my eyes uncontrollably. Spotty looked at me, licking my cheeks as if to tell me something. And it was at that moment that I realized why Spotty returned to me—he had forgiven me for what I had done. Unfortunately, Spotty didn't stay long and he closed his eyes forever the next day. Many years have passed since Spotty left us, but the valuable lesson he taught me will remain in my memory.。
