Section B Vocabulary
Interpreting the feelings of other people is not always easy. We 41 as much on what they seem to be telling us, as on the actual words they say. Facial expressions and tone of voice are obvious ways showing our reaction to something, and it may well be that we 42 express what we are trying to hide. The art of being tactful(机智的)43 in picking up these signals, realizing what the other people is trying to say, and acting so that they are not embarrassed in any way. For example, we may understand that they are in fact 44 to answer our questions, and so we stop pressing them. Body movements in general way also indicate feelings, and interviewers pay particular attention to the way a candidate for a job walks into the room and sits down.
45 , it is not difficult to present the right kind of appearance, while what employers want to know relates to the candidate’s character traits(特性) and 46 stability. This raises the awkward question of whether job candidate’s should be asked to complete psychological tests, and the further problem of 47 such tests actually produce reliable results. For many people, being asked to take part in such a test would be an objectionable intrusion (闯入, 侵扰) into their private lives. 48 , a prospective employer would hardly ask a candidate to run a hundred meters, or expect his or her family doctor to provide confidential medical information. Quite apart from this problem, can such tests predict whether a person is likely to be a 49 employee or a valued colleague?

Dancing for joy
With the recent release of their second album Don’t Don, the South Korean boy band, Super Junior, are creating another wave of sensation (狂热) across Asia.
Han Geng, better known by his Korean name, Han Kyung, stands out more than any of the other 12-members in the band, because he is Chinese.
He is one of the three lead dancers in the group, but the 23-year-old had to overcome plenty of obstacles to make it as a singer in a foreign country.
Han was brought up in Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang. Born with a talent for music and dancing, the boy from the Hezhen minority (赫哲族) went to Beijing at the age of 13 on his own to learn dancing. While studying at Central University for Nationalities, Han made every effort to learn the
Chinese traditional dances from the 56 ethnic groups (民族) as well as martial arts and ballet.
Han was discovered in 2001 at the H.O.T. China Audition Casting, where his handsome looks and skillful dancing made him stand out from over 3,000 candidates.
But stardom (成名) in South Korea didn’t come easily. When Han arrived in South Korea in late 2003, he had to receive individual lessons in singing, dancing, and acting. Two years later, SM Entertainment finally announced Han as a member of Super Junior. But during the first few months of Super Junior’s appearance Han was forced to wear a mask when performing on TV programs in South Korea because he is Chinese.
―Those years were my hardest times, but I had to go on. I would not give up,‖ he recalled.
All the effort finally paid off in 2006, when the band’s first album, Super Junior 05, won lots of awards. At the awards ceremony, for the first time he used Chinese in front of the flashing cameras to express his feelings and his pride of being Chinese.

The World Is Getting Smaller
Imagine this: a television screen the size and thickness of a piece of paper. You carry it around in your pocket and take it out when you want to watch a show. Imagine a guitar so tiny you can’t see it with the human eye, but you can hear sounds when its strings are plucked(拨). Some people say the future is big, but when it comes to technology, the world is getting smaller.
Nanotechnology(纳米技术)is the science that deals with doing things in a very small way, and it is being explored and developed all over the globe. Micromachines too small to be seen by the human eye are being designed to do many things that larger machines do today. And these machines, no longer in diameter(直径)than a human hair, are extremely powerful. Many scientists say nanotechnology will produce the next industrial revolution.
Maybe the area where nanotechnology will have the biggest impact is medical science. Imagine nanobots in medicine. Thousands or even millions of tiny machines can be sent into the human body with specific missions. For example, they can be designed to find and destroy cancer cells or viruses. Other machines may stay in the human body permanently to help organs that are not functioning properly.
Think of the possibilities in using such tiny machines in surgery. Imagine machines so small you can swallow them in a pill or inject them into your bloodstream through a needle. After you’ve had too many years of junk food, these tiny robots could be sent into your arteries(动脉)to clean them. An intelligent machine in your heart would look around to find the problem and then repair it. If you needed an operation, it would be almost like swallowing the surgeon.
When could all of this happen? Scientists predict that much of this is possible in the next 30 years. After all, when your grandparents were young, they would have laughed if someone told them a person could walk on the moon. Thousands of scientists around the world are working on these micromachines. Nanotechnology is just around the corner.
72.Paragraph 2 mainly discusses ____________.

74.According to the passage, the tiny medical instruments ___________.
A. can stay in human body and cure the diseases
B. are too small to be repaired
C. may not function well in human body
D. can also be used to send human onto the moon
75.The phrase ―just around the corner‖ in the last sentence means ―___________‖.
A. in the distance
B. right under your notice
C. likely to happen soon
D. beyond all imagination

Hunting
The days of the hunter are almost over in India. This is partly because there is practically nothing left to kill, and partly because some steps have been taken, mainly by banning tiger-shooting, to protect those animals which still survive.
Some people say that Man is naturally a hunter. I disagree with this view. Surely our earliest forefathers, who at first possessed no weapons, spent their time digging for roots, and were no
doubt themselves often hunted by meat-eating animals.
I believe the main reason why the modern hunter kills is that he thinks people will admire his courage in overpowering dangerous animals. Of course, there are some who truly believe that the killing is not really the important thing, and that the chief pleasure lies in the joy of the hunt and the beauties of the wild countryside. There are also those for whom hunting in fact offers a chance to prove themselves and risk death by design; these men go out after dangerous animals like tigers, even if they say they only do it to rid the countryside of a threat. I can respect reasons like these, but they are clearly different from the need to strengthen your high opinion of yourself.
The greatest big-game hunters expressed in their writings something of these finer motives (动机). One of them wrote.
―You must properly respect what you are after and shoot it cleanly and on the animal’s own territory (领地). You must fix forever in your mind all the wonders of that particular day. This is better than letting him grow a few years older to be attacked and wounded by his own son and eventually eaten, half alive, by other animals, Hunting is not a cruel and senseless killing – not if you respect the thing you kill, not if you kill to enrich your memories, not if you kill to feed your people. ‖
I can understand such beliefs, and can compare these hunters with those who hunted lions with spears(矛) and bravely caught them by the tail. But this is very different from many tiger-shoots I have seen, in which modern weapons were used. The so-called hunters fired from tall trees or from the backs of trained elephants. Such methods made tigers seem no more dangerous than rabbits.
76.There is no more hunting in India now partly because ___.
A. it is dangerous to hunt there
B. hunting is already out of date
C. hunters want to protect animals
D. there are few animals left to hunt
77.The author thinks modern hunters kill mainly ____.
A. to make the countryside safe
B. to earn people’s admiration
C. to gain power and influence
D. to improve their health
78.What do we learn about the big-game hunters?
A. They hunt old animals.
B. They mistreat animals.
C. They hunt for food.
D. They hunt for money.
79.What is the author’s view on the tiger-shoots he has seen?
A. Modern hunters lack the courage to hunt face-to-face.
B. Modern hunters should use more advanced weapons.
C. Modern hunters like to hunt rabbits instead of tigers.
D. Modern hunters should put their safety first.

Golden Week(黄金周)
We have three Golden Weeks in a year: first the Chinese New Year, second May 1 (Labor Day), and third October 1 (National Day). In fact, there are only three days in a period as public holidays. However, a Golden Week (a weeklong holiday) is made by weekend-shifting. Additional days have to be compensated by working the weekend before or after the holiday. That means people have to keep working for a period longer than five days. As the upcoming Golden Week will run from May 1 to 7, most people will have to work on Saturday (April 30) and Sunday (May 8).
The government called this the long-vacation policy with which they intend to boost the so-called ―holiday economy‖ that benefits tourism, entertainment and service business in China. People are expected to go shopping, go out for dinner or go on vacation in a Golden Week.
A growing number of local residents plan to travel during the upcoming May Day holiday week, with overseas tours proving very popular. Local travel agencies even stopped receiving bookings now for most of their overseas tours for the May Day holiday week. But travelers will be unhappy to see the sharp price hikes for nearly all the routes, especially those lead to domestic destinations. In such a Golden Week, while some businesses turn Golden, consumers become the Weak to be ripped off!
11.How many Golden Weeks are there in a year in China according to the passage?
12.Why did the government make the long-vacation policy?
13.What does not happen to tourists during the Golden Weeks?

Questions 14 through 16 are based on the following passage.
Chinese economic growth “not a threat”
PHNOM PENH—Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said Wednesday the Chinese economic growth is good for the region and the world, and it is not a threat to other countries.
Chinese economic growth has helped to push the economic growth for other countries like Cambodia, Hun Sen told Cambodia’s Investment, Trade, and Infrastructure 2007 Roundtable Forum attended by about 600 local and foreign business people.
―I disa greed with some people who said they are concerned about Chinese influences in the region and the world,‖ he said, adding that Cambodia needs more investors from China. Hun Sen said that if possible, Cambodia needs about one million Chinese tourists to come and visit the country, adding that about one million Chinese tourists visited Singapore last year.
Cambodia is likely to attract 2 million tourists this year, increasing 19 percent compared with last year, he said.
The Cambodian economic growth depends on garment, construction, tourism and agriculture sectors, Hun Sen said, adding that the service sector also plays a key role.。
