a great number of……许多……，用于修饰复数可数名词。

Lesson 5 No wrong numbers

from Silbury:介词from作“距……”,“离……”讲，常与away连用，如：It is far away from here.

up to now(=up till now) 到现在为止；作时间状语，句子的时态多用现在完成时。

a great many 许多的，其中great表示数量很大，只能同可数名词的复数连用。

in return for this 作为报答，句中this 指上文的a meal and a glass of beer.
