As a viewer, I recently watched the movie "The Legend of 1900" or "La Leggenda del pianista sull'oceano" in Italian, which is also known as "The Ocean's Pianist". The movie is directed by Giuseppe Tornatore, who also wrote the screenplay, and was released in 1998, featuring a star cast of Tim Roth, Pruitt Taylor Vince, and Mélanie Thierry.
The movie is based on a monologue by Alessandro Baricco, in which he tells the legend of a young boy who was born and grew up on a steamboat that crossed the Atlantic Ocean. The boy, named Danny Boodman, is discovered by one of the ship's crew members, who takes him under his wing and focuses his attention on nurturing Danny's musical talent. Danny proves himself to be a natural pianist and grows up to become a virtuoso pianist, who is known as the Legend of 1900.
Throughout the movie, the audience follows the exploits of the Legend of 1900 and his fellow musicians, who play music on the ship to entertain passengers and crew members. The story also delves deep into the life of 1900, his childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. We see his friendship with a sailor named Max Tooney, who becomes friends with 1900 and becomes the narrator of his life story.
