Abstract
The 1999 Chi-Chi, Taiwan earthquake (Mw=7.6) triggered a huge number of strong aftershocks in the Taiwan area. Those earthquakes provide an ideal opportunity to statistically examine possible mechanisms of both earthquake triggering and fault interaction.
Introduction
The 1999 Chi-Chi, Taiwan earthquake (Mw = 7.6), one of the best instrumentally recorded earthquakes in the world (Teng et al., 2001), has provided another reliable seismic data set with which to examine possible mechanisms of earthquake triggering and fault interaction.

Most earthquakes are grouped into two seismic zones (i.e., the Chi-Chi and the Central Range seismic zones) marked by dashed-boxes. The regional seismic network
(CWBSN) was marked by triangles.。
