More than the challenge of fitting into a new culture, there are many benefits that a student can get from an exchange program. These benefits include:
·Diverse academic opportunities. In fact, students want to study abroad rather than travel. 21 Instead, it will be the supply of diverse opportunities for the student. For example, the student will be able to experience the differences of teaching methods, educational formats and academic program offerings.
· 22 Studying in another country opens the student’s eyes to different surroundings, which makes the student know about the country’s customs, people and regions. Knowing other culture also
teaches the student how to be open-minded.
·Personality development. 23 Thus, the student needs to make decisions on his or her own and suffer the consequences or enjoy the fruits of those decisions. With this, the student is taught how real life is, what it means to be responsible, and how being resourceful can help in his or her survival. It’s no wonder that most students who return after the exchange program are seen with significant improvement on their personal development. 24
So, why not let your child have the benefits of a student exchange program Exchange programs or study-abroad programs are a great investment for the student. 25 Just imagine, by transforming students in a foreign country, the society is starting to build new blood of more mature people who might just be able to create a better tomorrow for the generations to come.
A.Improved protection of social rights.
B.Better awareness of cultural differences.
C.More importantly, it is helpful for the improvement of the society. D.Most of them are more confident and have better decision-making skills.
E.The hosting school can also benefit by making a student’s dream come true.
F.Although students really love traveling, studying is not an activity filled
with travel fun at all times.

John Nelson, 92, grew up in Michigan and volunteered for the army in 1945.The 18-year-old managed to get accepted, despite being colorblind. He landed on the island of Iwo Jima in the first days of the American attack to take the island from the Japanese. Nelson fought day and night for 10 days before receiving a serious wound to his right arm. The other seven men in his squadron (中队) all died. American losses included 5,900 dead and 17,400 wounded.
Nelson saw the American flag being raised on Mount Suribachi after the island was taken by the American forces. The arm would continue to trouble him the rest of his life. Suffering from anxiety and flashbacks, he was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (创伤后应激障碍).
Al Elders was a Grandville farm boy. He joined the Navy and was stationed on Guam when the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on Aug. 6 and 9,1945, basically ended the war with Japan.
War often develops lasting friendships. But for the two World War II veterans (老兵) living at Sunset Manor in Jenison, their friendship didn’t begin until about a year and a half ago. One day, Elders noticed a man sitting at a cafeteria in the Sunset Village, and that was Nelson. Seeing
his Marine cap, Elders thought they would have something to talk about. And they did. The war in the Pacific is a common bond.
The two men later worked together to serve other residents (居民) at Sunset Manor. John began detailing cars during good weather and cleaning walkers in the winter. Elders became his advertising manager. They donated most of their income to the Wounded Warrior project. John is less mobile now and is in care at Sunset. Al continues to visit and to encourage his friend. A friend of Elders’ who traveled to Iwo Jima brought back a jar filled with sand from the rocky island. Elders sent the gift, along with his own wartime collections, to the Seabee Museum and Memorial Park.

According to a new research, the more people in a country who have a particular gene(基因),the happier the nation will be.This DNA is known as the FAAH gene.People with a particular version of it tend to be cheerier souls. There is a link between levels of the FAAH gene and the number of people who say they are very happy.
Sweden—one of the happiest countries in the world—also has lots of happy DNA.Ghana,Nigeria,Mexico and Columbia all come out near the top in the happiness league, and have high rates of the gene.In contrast, the people of Iraq,Jordan and China are among the least likely to rate themselves as very happy and also have the lowest level of the FAAH gene.
However, wealth and health are found to have little effect on happiness. The finding could help explain why some of the world’s poorest nations are also the happiest. In addition, the FAAH gene and an
optimistic attitude would not always go hand in hand. For example,Russians and Estonians score very low in happiness, despite having the right happy DNA.
Professor Michael Minkov said,“The climate condition is associated with the nation’s happiness. We can notice the high occurrence of the FAAH gene in tropical(热带的) areas in the Americas and Africa. And the occurrence of the gene around the Mediterranean Sea is much lower than that in Northern Europe.”
The social experts say that genetics is not the only determinant(决定因素) of happiness. The economic and political difficulties in some nations also contribute to the very low happiness scores.Nations that are not blessed with the right DNA aren’t necessarily miserable.

Silvano Lattanzi, the master of made in Italy shoemaking, was totally conquered by a painting hung in the entrance hall of the very modern Rich Gate, the luxury district in Shanghai.

One Sunday morning, George Thomasa, baker in a small New England town was walking through town when he saw a young boy coming toward him, swinging (挥舞) a bird cage in the air. On the bottom of the cage, there were three little wild birds shaking with cold and fear. George Thomas stopped the boy and asked him what he got there.
The boy was happy and told him that there were just some old birds in the cage. When the baker asked him what he would do with the old birds.
The boy said casually (漫不经心地) that he wanted to take the birds home and play with them. He would pull out their feathers to make them fight. He would have a really good time because he would enjoy watching these.
George Thomas was shocked by what the boy said. How could a boy be so rude to wild animals So he continued to ask the boy what he would do to the birds when he got tired of them, because he was such a naughty and cruel boy that he was sure to be tired of them sooner or later. The boy laughed and said that he got a cat, which liked birds, so he would give the birds to his cat. The baker got more worried and decided to help set free the poor birds. So he asked, “How much do you want for those birds, son ”
The boy looked at him in surprise, wondering if the baker really wanted to buy them. He laughed and reminded the man that they were just plain old field birds. They didn’t sing, and they were not even pretty. However, the baker insisted and continued to ask him how much money he wanted for the birds.
The boy stared at the baker as if he were crazy and said, “$10 ”

64.One possible version:
The baker reached in his pocket and took out a ten-dollar bill. He placed
it in the boy’s hand. The boy grasped the money firmly as if he was afraid that the baker would change his mind. In a flash, the excited boy was gone. The baker looked at the boy walking away and shook his head. He wondered how such a little boy was so naughty as to keep the poor birds in the cage, which were so lovely.;
The baker picked up the cage. And he gently carried it to the end of the alley where there was a tree and a grassy spot. Setting the cage down, he opened the door, and by softly tapping the bars persuaded the birds out, setting them free. The baker watched the birds flying in the sky, smiling. He took the empty bird cage home happily. Animals were friends of human beings. We should live in harmony with all the creatures.。
