Every year, thousands of teenagers participate in programs at their local art museums. But do any of them remember their time at museum events later in life?
A new report suggests that the answer is yes—and finds that alumni (毕业生) of arts-based museum programs credit them with changing the course of their lives, even years after the fact.
The Whitney Museum of American Art, the Walker Art Center and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles recently asked researchers to conduct a study to find out how effective their long-standing teen art programs really are. They involved over 300 former participants of four programs for teens that have been in existence since the 1990s. Alumni, whose current ages range from 18 to 36, were invited to find out how they viewed their participation years after the fact.
Among the alumni surveyed, 75 percent of alumni rated the teen program experience as the most favorable impact on their own lives, beating family, school and their neighborhoods. Nearly 55 percent thought that it was one of the most important experiences they’d ever had, regardless of age. And two-thirds said that they were often in situations where their experience in museums affected their
actions or thoughts.
It turns out that participating in art programs also helps keep teens enthusiastic about arts even after they reach adulthood: 96 percent of participants had visited an art museum within the last two years, and 68 percent had visited an art museum five or more times within the last two years. Thirty-two percent of program alumni work in the arts as adults.
Though the study is the first of its kind to explore the impact of teen-specific art programs in museums, it reflects other research on the important benefits of engaging with the arts. A decade of surveys by the National Endowment for the Arts found that childhood experience with the arts is significantly associated with their ine and educational attainment as adults. Other studies have linked arts education to everything from lower drop-out rates to improvement in critical thinking skills.
24. What does the underlined phrase “the fact”in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A. Changing the course of children’s life.
B. Participating in childhood art programs.
C. Organizing arts-based museum programs.
D. Remembering the time at museum events.
25. What does Paragraph 2 mainly tell?
A. The result of the study.
B. The process of the study.
C. The approach to the study.
D. The object and content of the study.
26. What can be inferred of the study mentioned in the text?
A. Passion for arts may remain long in kids’whole life.
B. No other studies exist concerning the benefits of arts.
C. Age matters in how people view their art experiences.
D. Most children taking part in art programs will work in arts.
27. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. How is Art Connected to Our Life?
B. Can Art Education Affect Our Ine?
C. What Should Art Museums do for Kids?
D. Should Children Walk into Art Museums?
B 25. D 26. A 27. D
分析可知,划线短语“the fact”之前有“even years after”应是与前文“later in life”相呼应,因此“the fact”应是指代前文内容“Every year, thousands of teenagers participate in programs at their local art museums. But do any of them remember their time at museum events later in life?(每年都有成千上万的青少年参加当地艺术博物馆的活动。
They involved over 300 former participants of four programs for teens that have been in existence
since the 1990s. Alumni, whose current ages range from 18 to 36, were invited to find out how they viewed their participation years after the fact.(他们让300多名前参与者参与了20世纪90年代以来一直存在的四个青少年项目,并邀请目前年龄在18岁至36岁之间的校友们,了解他们在这之后几年的参与情况。
根据文章第四段内容“It turns out that participating in art programs also helps keep teens enthusiastic about arts even after they reach adulthood…”
故选A项。
通过阅读文章可知,根据第二段“The Whitney Museum of American Art, the Walker Art Center and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles recently asked researchers to conduct a study to find out how effective their long-standing teen art programs really are. ”惠特尼美国艺术博物馆、沃克艺术中心和洛杉矶当代艺术博物馆最近要求研究人员进行一项研究,以了解他们长期存在的青少年艺术项目到底有多有效。
根据最后一段A decade of surveys by the National Endowment for the Arts found that childhood experience with the arts is significantly associated with their ine and educational attainment as adults.

C
When nature is left alone, a balance is reached among the animals and plants living in one area. But when man starts his work in nature, the balance is likely to be destroyed. He grows a crop and takes it away to eat; then there are no dead leaves to fall on the ground, holding water while it sinks into the surface, or decaying(腐烂) and adding humus(腐殖质) to the soil. Unless a farmer acts with knowledge and skill, he is therefore most likely to make the land poorer. T o take the place of the useful matter in the crops that he removes, he uses some kind of fertilizer. Chemical fertilizers are of great help, but the waste products of animals and decaying remains of plants should also be put on the land. In some places, it is a habit to burn waste material lying about, but such burning destroys the useful matter in the dead plants. Although the ashes that are left are valuable when put on the land, a better practice is to bury the waste so that it decays and increases the humus in the soil.
In the past, when the world population was much lower than it is now, a man had little difficulty in ordinary times in growing the food that was needed. When a field had been used some years and had bee tired, the farmer could move to another place. The tired land then slowly recovered. Gradually grasses and other plants would appear on it and its productive power would slowly return to normal through their decay. But nature, left alone, would take a long time to bring back the land to its former state; the length of time required would depend on local conditions, but it might well be ten years.
It is a bad practice to grow the same crop in a field year after year. If the crop is changed, the land will suffer less because it is treated and used in a different way. Different plants have different effects on the soil. Therefore, a change of crop will do less harm than the growing of the same crop year after year and a regular change to grass will do good to the soil. Much will therefore be gained if different crops are grown one after another, a method known as the rotation(轮作) of crops.
28. According to the passage, the land will bee poorer ________.
A. if all the dead leaves are cleared away
B. if the humus is increased after the harvest
C. if dead leaves decay in the soil by themselves
D. if waste plant material lying about is buried
29. We can learn from the passage that the tired land has gradually recovered
________.
A. when grasses and other plants appear again
B. when the treatment is given by nature alone
C. after new grasses and other plants have decayed again
D. after nature has been left alone for several months
30. A modern farmer can hardly move to another place as he did before because ________.
A. the productive power of a new field isn’t higher than that of an old one
B. there are few free fields left for him to do farming
C. it takes a farmer more than ten years to start farming in a new field
D. there will be too many grasses in a new field to grow crops
31. It is most likely that the author will go on to ________ in the paragraph following the passage above.
A. introduce other methods of planting crops
B. deal with how to prevent land getting tired
C. start another topic of how to make use of land
D. explain what the rotation of crops is
A 29. C 30. B 31. D

根据第一段中then there are no dead leaves to fall on the ground, holding water while it sinks into the surface, or decaying(腐烂) and adding humus(腐殖质) to the soil.
故选A。
The tired land then slowly recovered. Gradually grasses and other plants would appear on it and its productive power would slowly return to normal through their decay.
When a field had been used some years and had bee tired, the farmer could move to another place.
Much will therefore be gained if different crops are grown one after another, a method known as the rotation(轮作) of crops.

A MENTORING (导师制)program is giving life changing opportunities to Banbury youth. Young Inspirations was founded two years ago to provide mentoring sessions for students and unemployed young adults aged 11 to 21.
Alex Goldberg, the program's founder, said, “We set up Young Inspirations because we wanted to give young people experiences that will potentially be life changing and broaden their outlook. ““We try to create work experience opportunities which will make a really great difference to our youth. For example, we've secured internships (实习)with world - famous firms such as Honda.”
“At a time of funding cutbacks, schools are finding it more and more difficult to offer this kind of mentoring because of that - it is extremely important that these opportunities are available both to help youth with their school work and grades and to give them opportunities which may help shape their futures. “Kieran Hepburn, 14, is one of a group of Banbury youth who has benefited from the

It was amazing. “he said,“We went to three or four hours of debates each day and then did something cultural each afternoon. “
The main theme of the forum was how youth can bring about change in political and public life. It dealt with issues such as drug abuse, violence and unemployment. Kieran said: “It has really helped me to improve my confidence and social skills as well as my school grades and I was voted most improved pupil at school in August. “The Young Inspirations mentoring sessions take place each Friday in Banbury. 既然标题判断题属于主旨大意题,选择的标题要能概括文章的大意,不能只是其中一个细节,第4小题的A、B、C选项都只是文章为说明主旨而给出的细节,不能概括本文的主旨,所以不是正确选项。
在做题时的一个技巧是先看四个选项哪个选项用的语言是高度概括的,先做待定项,再去文章中寻找相关内容来验证。
