4.Know that we make our voice rise at the end of a sentence to show surprise.

Teaching steps:
Step 1: Lead-in
Review something about Beijing Sunshine Secondary School, Woodland School and Rocky Mountain High School.
Step 2: Speak up
1. Do you have any hobbies?What are they? When do you usually do your hobbies?Hoe much time do you spend on your hobbies every day?
2. T: We have different hobbies. But what about Millie and Simonl?
Listen to the tape and answer:
(1)How much time does Daniel spend on his hobbies every day?
(2)What about Simon/Amy/Millie?
3. Listen again and answer the questions:
(1) Who spends more/less time on his/her hobbies?
(2) Who spends the most/least time on his/her hobbies?
4. Repeat the conversation after the tape sentence by sentence.
Step 3: Presentation
1. Ask some questions to introduce some adverbs.
(1) When we are having alesson,what should we do?(We should listen carefully.)
(2) What should we do if the baby is sleeping? (We should talk quietly.)
2. Discuss with the students about how to change adjectives into adverbs.
Most adjectives+ly: quiet—quietly,slow—slowly
Adjectives ending in consonant+y,-y+ily:
easy—easily,happy—happily
Adjectives ending in le,-e+y:gentle—gently,simple—simply
Some irregular adjectives:good—well,fast—fast,early—early
Step 4: Practice
1. Write the correct adverbs of the following adjectives.
careful bright bad excited happy heavy
noisy nice polite simple possible late
2. Ask the students to read the words loudly.
Step 5: Presentation
1. Write these words on the blackboard: friendly,lovely. Ask: What do these words meanin Chinese?Are they adjectives or adverbs?Yes, they are adjectives. We can also add the suffix –ly to some nouns to form adjectives.Ask Ss to read the content of the table on page 27.
2. Read the words loudly and pay attention to the rules.
Step 6: Practise
1. Ask the Ss to do Part A on page 27.
2. Talk about the answers in groups of four and then chek the answers together.
3. Ask the Ss to read the words loudly.
4. Complete Part B .Explain some important phrases: look through, keep doing sth, learn to do sth. Homework
1. Make a new dialogue about hobbies.
2. Remember the new words and phrases.
