He may not have an "S" across his chest but this dog is most certainly a hero.
Harley, who was rescued from a puppy mill(磨坊,工厂) four years ago, was named the American Humane Association's 2015 American Hero Dog. Harley, who is missing an eye and has other medical issues from his time at the mill, is now a "spokes-dog" against puppy mills.
He serves as the adorable furry face of the “Harley to the Rescue" campaign, which raises funds for the National Dog Mill Rescue, according to a press release.
The pup was rescued back in 2011 and adopted by Rudi and her husband, Dan. "It was just four years ago that he was pulled from the cage in the puppy mill and left to die," Harley's owner, Rudi, said during the awards show at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles this past weekend, according to Today. com. "We never would have ever thought he would live this long and make such a difference for so many puppies. "
The dog was one of eight finalists up for the American Hero Dog and was chosen as the winner through public votes. The finalists all won $ 1,500 to be donated to one of American Humane Association' s charity partners, with Harley receiving another $ 5 ,000 to go toward his charity partner, New Leash On Life.
According to the release, Harley spent 10 years at the puppy mill, and endured rough treatment there, which led to his many medical issues. He lost his eye as a result of his cage being power-washed with him inside.
. The dog isn't just the face of his campaign, he also goes on rescue missions and makes public appearances at events and schools to raise awareness for puppy mills.
This incredible work is all due to the dog' s fighting spirit. That spirit is allowing him now to be the voice for dogs who cannot speak for themselves and give everybody hope that tomorrow's going to be a better day.
24. How did the "Harley to the Rescue" campaign function?
A. By saving dogs from a puppy mill.
B. By operating the American Humane Association.

B. Sympathetic.
C. Doubtful.

26. Why was Harley blind in one eye?
A. She was born with it.
B. Her owner hit her once roughly .
C. It was caused by a medical issue.

27. What can we infer about the dog from the text?
A. It would be given to New Leash On Life.
B. It was kept by Rudi's family.
C. It would be taken away by its puppy mill.
D. It returned to the National Dog Mill Rescue.

What did you eat for lunch today? Did you choose this dish because it was healthy, cheap or because it was just very tasty? Are you a particular eater or an adventurous diner?
I love exploring trends in food.‘Fusion(融合) cuisine’is not for everybody. My Italian grandmother would turn her nose up in disgust at the thought of tandoori pizza with mango topping but this marriage of tastes is perfectly fine in the 21st century.Chef and food writer Ching-He Huang, who presented a series of Chinese Food for the BBC,is a fan of the movement. She says:“Fusion has been happening for centuries, for as long as people have travelled, but with the Internet, and global travel, the exchange of ideas makes the process much faster.”
Wolfgang Puck is seen by many as one of the chefs who made‘fusion’elegant. He got his experience in this aspect in his native Vienna and made a name for himself when he opened his own restaurant in Los Angeles in the 1970s.This European dug into Asian cuisine and became one of the first in a long line of distinguished chefs. He said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that initially he got negative responses from traditional American—Chinese restaurant owners but he is not bitter.“I believe authenticity is about evolution, not repeating your grandmoth er’s recipe.”he explains.“Cooking is like painting or writing a song.Just as there are only so many notes or colours.there are only so many flavours—it’s how you combine them that sets you apart.”
My granny’s cup of tea would be the Slow Food Movement.Founded by her countryman Carlo Petrini in the 1980s and still going strong,it seeks to preserve regional cuisine and the use of ingredients that are grown locally.Petrini wants to see farmers connected more directly with consumers.
All these trends give us food for thought. We might be wasting an exciting opportunity to wake up our taste buds when we swallow a sandwich at our desks.Tomorrow, why not find an exotic restaurant and enjoy a feast? You dress trendy so eat trendy!
28.Fusion cuisine is_______.
A.a BBC cooking programme B.a balanced diet rich in nutrition
C.a new trend of global travelling D.a combination of different cooking styles 29.What do we learn about Wolfgang Puck?
A.He knew little about Asian cuisine.B.He owed his success to his love for painting. C.He was well received by Europeans. D.He was in favor of creation in cooking.30.The Slow Food Movement_____________.
A.aims to keep alive local cuisine B.is favoured by old people
C.promotes local farming D.is founded by Granny
31.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Hungry for new B.Greedy for tasty
C.Love for cooking D.Food for thought

The elevator of the future may be just over the horizon thanks to German company ThyssenKrupp. The firm has invented a cable-free elevator (called MULTI) that can go up and down like traditional lifts but the magnetic motors allow it to go side-to-side too.The designers predict that this technology could incre ase the carrying capacity of existing architecture by as much as 50%.Plus it looks really neat.
ThyssenKrupp plans to use light-weight materials to build its elevator ears of the future and the lack of a cable winch(钢缆绞车)will reduce weight as well. The ears wouldn’t just move up and down as they do now but would instead go in a circle that allows more cars to slip in fight behind the next. The result is that you might only have to wait 10 seconds for the next one to arrive rather than wait for the one you just missed to come back down. The technology backing ThyssenKrupp’s MULTI elevator is very similar to magnetic levitation(磁悬浮)systems used in high-speed trains. Each car has two magnetic motors—one for vertical movement and another for horizontal. This system can also deliver power to the car's internal lighting and electronics without using wires.
A traditional cable driven elevator has mechanical components that can hold the car in place in the event of a power-off.ThyssenKrupp didn’t go into detail about safety measures in its announcement but it's safe to say the magnetic levitation elevator will have some sort of system to hold it in place if the lights go out.ThyssenKrupp is working on a test tower that will be used to develop the MULTI into a real elevator technology. This should be up and running by 2016 but it will probably take at least a few more years before you get to climb inside a magnetic elevator car.
32.What does the underlined phrase “over the horizon”mean?
A.Above sea level. B.On the rise. C. On the way. D.Out of sight.33.MULTI is designed to_________.
A.save energy B.carry more passengers
C.run much faster D.be neat and comfortable
34.The key technology about MULTI is its__________.
A.magnetic motor B.cable winch
C.wireless electronics D.lighting material
35.What can be learned from the last paragraph?
A.MULTI will sell well.
B.MULTI has to work on a tower.
C.MULTI will be put into use in 2016.
D.MULTI has a safety system in case of power-off.

Good morning, everyone! It is my honor to be here to share with you my opinions on what to learn in senior high school.
In the coming three years, our school life will be challenging. Firstly, we should learn to learn efficiently. Personally, I used to try effective methods to achieve my academic goals. Developing a good habit is also of importance. It really benefited me a lot to preview lessons, get actively involved in class, and review what had been taught after class.
In addition, we should learn how to get along well with others. In school, I respected teachers and was friendly with classmates. It was with sincerity and faithfulness that we created a harmonious atmosphere.
Finally, we should take part in sports and outdoor activities frequently. They were really helpful to build up my body and enrich my school life.
No pains, no gains. I am sure that with your great effort s, you will enjoy a colorful and
fruitful life here.
Thank you!
Text 1
M: Only two days left until summer break! What are your plans, Jessica?
W: I’m off to Canada for a camping trip. What a bout you, Sam?
M: I think I’ll stay here and relax.
Text 2
W: What are you guys laughing at?
M: It’s this new movie called The Internship. It’s very f unny.
Text 3
M: I’m afraid we’ll have to cancel the trip, Grace.
W: Yeah, this is much more important. You’ll have to go to the funeral. He was your uncle. Text 4
W: Benjamin promised to come for our party if he has time.
M: He often does it, but he never seems to have time. So you had better not take his words seriously, otherwise you will get disappointed later.
Text 5
W: I often mistake Mark for Tom in class. Can you tell them apart?
M: No. They are twins, and many teachers make the same mistake like us. It is really a little embarrassing to make mistakes all the time in face of so many students. Text 6
M: Kathy, you’ve been a little quiet since you came in. Is anything wrong?
W: Oh, I’ve just been thinking about my classmate Don.
M: What’s the matter?
W: He failed the midterms, but his father expected to see good grades.
M: I see. So he couldn’t deal with the pressure?
W: Right. His father expected nothing but good grades. It’s really too bad. In fact, Don had tried hard.
M: I’m glad my parents have n ever pressured me that way.
W: Don said that his father never stopped giving him pressure. He was constantly making comments like “You’d better study harder”.
M: It makes things really tough.
Text 7
M: Look at this place! If I didn’t know it was the city I grew up in, I’d swear I was somewhere else!
W: Yeah…so many houses are empty or broken down. It wasn’t like this when we were kids.
M: We used to play ball in the streets all the time, but it looks so dangerous now.
W: And ugly. Look at all that trash in the streets. The wind just pushes it along. What a lonely place!
M: This used to be a great city. People came from miles around to work in the shops and eat in the restaurants. What a sad sight! I guess when the glass making industry decided to move across the country where it’s cheaper, the quality of life here went away, too.
W: Yeah, let’s go. There’s nothing left for us here. I’m getting depressed.
Text 8
M: Hi, Cindy. I’ve got two tickets for the new modern art exhibit downtown. Do you want to go with me? I know you have finished your final paper.
W: But I don’t know anything about modern art, and I’m no artist.
M: You don’t have to be an artist to enjoy a good art show! Besides, at least it’s something different from studying.
W: You’re right. Hav e you seen this exhibit yet?
M: No, but I’ve heard that it’s great. The exhibit was in New York last summer and in Chicago after that. And next week it will go to San Francisco.
W: Oh. Well, it ought to be good then.
M: And, besides, next door to the modern art museum is a new Asian art museum. So we could hit both of them if you’re up for it.
W: OK. You’ve talked me into it. Do you want to go this afternoon?
M: If you have time. I’m ready.
W: OK. Let’s meet after lunch. I’m starving now. I’ve got to go bac k home first.
Text 9
M: Mom, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about the food in India. Ever since I got back from my trip, I’ve been dying for some real Indian food. But there’s nothing around here. No restaurants serve the kinds of dishes I ate there. I’d have to go to a big city to find anything that comes close. In our town, they don’t even make spicy food!
W: Well, Drew, why don’t you try making your own?
M: I wish I could! But I wouldn’t know where to start.
W: I’ll help you look online for some r ecipes.
M: How will we know which ones are good?
W: We’ll try them, of course! After some practice, we’ll be able to tell which ones we’ll
like best.
M: But I doubt we’ll find everything we need in the grocery stores. I’m sure they use many unusual spices in India.
W: We will start simply. I know I’ve seen some Thai spices at the market — maybe some of them will be useful. If we find that those aren’t enough, we can order some online. There must be Indian grocery stores somewhere in America that will ship them. If worse comes to worst, I’ll ask my brother in New York to look around. He should be able to find a place that sells Indian spices!
M: Thanks, Mom! This is gonna be fun! I can’t wait to start cooking!
Text 10
Hello, manager. I am David Robertson. I am making this tape to report your poor service. Thank
you for listening.
Last Thursday, I traveled on the 8:40 am train from Glasgow to London King’s Cross Station
and I was very unhappy with the service provided by your company.
The train was forty minutes late leaving Glasgow, and although the guard apologized, we were
not given any reason for the delay. We then had further delays when the train crew changed at Preston and had to wait thirty more minutes. As a result, I missed my flight from London Heathrow Airport to Frankfurt and had to wait for several hours.
What’s more, the service on the train was also very poor. The trip took over five hours.
Unluckily, there was no restaurant on the train and there was only a bar with soft drinks. Worst of all, the air conditioning broke down half way through the trip and it got hotter and hotter in the train. However, there was no apology for this, and before we reached King’s Cross, the temperature was almost 40˚C.
I would be very grateful if you could make up for my loss, and make me feel more psychologically comfortable. Thank you。
