PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATIONS All measurements are taken indoor using a time-windowed and processed signal to eliminate room effects, approximating ananechoic environment, a distance of 6.0 m. All acoustic specifications are rounded to the nearest whole number. An external DSP with settings provided by Community Professional Loudspeakers is required to achieve the specified performance; further performance gains can be realized using Community’s dSPEC226 loudspeaker processor with FIR power response optimization.2. OPERATING RANGE The frequency range in which the on-axis processed response remains within 10dB of the average SPL.3. CONTINUOUS POWER HANDLING Maximum continuous input voltage (and the equivalent power rating, in watts, at the stated nominal impedance) that the system can withstand, without damage, for a period of 2 hours using an EIA-426-B defined spectrum; with recommended signal processing and protection filters. 4. NOMINAL SENSITIVITY Averaged SPL over the operating range with an input voltage that would produce 1 Watt at the nominal impedance and the averaged SPL over the operating range with a fixed input voltage of 2.83V, respectively; swept sine wave axial measurements with no external processing applied in whole space, except where indicated.5. NOMINAL MAXIMUM SPL Calculated based on nominal / peak power handling, respectively, and nominal sensitivity; exclusive of power compression.6. EQUALIZED SENSITIVITY The respective SPL levels produced when an EIA-426-B signal is applied to the equalized loudspeaker system at a level which produces a total power of 1 Watt , in sum, to the loudspeaker subsections and also at a level which produces a total voltage, in sum, of 2.83V to the loudspeaker subsections, respectively; each referenced to a distance of 1 meter.7. EQUALIZED MAXIMUM SPL The SPL produced when an EIA-426-B signal is applied to the equalized loudspeaker system, at a level which drives at least one subsection to its rated continuous input voltage limit, referenced to a distance of 1 meter. The peak SPL represents the 2:1 (6dB) crest factor of the EIA-426-B test signal.8. AXIAL PROCESSED RESPONSE The on-axis variation in acoustic output level with frequency of the complete loudspeaker system with recommended signal processing applied. 1/6 octave Gaussian smoothing applied.9. AXIAL SENSITIVITY The on-axis variation in acoustic output level with frequency for a 1 Watt swept sine wave, referenced to 1 meter with no signal processing. 1/6 octave Gaussian smoothing applied.10. HORIZONTAL / VERTICAL OFF-AXIS RESPONSES The loudspeaker’s magnitude response at various angles off-axis, with recommended signal processing applied in the operating mode which utilizes the largest number of individually amplified pass bands. 1/6 octave Gaussian smoothing applied.11. DIRECTIVITY INDEX The ratio of the on-axis SPLsquared to the mean squared SPL at the same distance for all points within the measurement sphere for each given frequency; expressed in dB. 1/6 octave Gaussian smoothing applied.12. BEAMWIDTH The angle between the -6dB points in the polar response of the loudspeaker when driven in the operating mode which utilizes the largest number of individually amplified pass bands. 1/6 octave Gaussian smoothing applied.Data presented on this spec sheet represents a selection of the basic performance specifications for the model. This 3 dB headroom is necessary to handle the peaks that are common to musical programs. When the amplifier clip s those peaks, high distortion arises and this may damage the transducer due to excessive heat. The use of compressors is a good practice to reduce music dynamics to safe levels.FINDING VOICE COIL TEMPERA TUREIt is very important to avoid maximum voice coil temperature. Since moving coil resistance (R ) varies with temperature according to a well known law, E we can calculate the temperature inside the voice coil by measuring the voice coil DC resistance:T , T = voice coil temperatures in °C.A B R , R = voice coil resistances at temperatures T and T , respectively.A B A B α= voice coil wire temperature coef ficient at 25 °C.25POWER COMPRESSIONVoice coil resistance rises with temperature, which leads to efficiency reduction. Therefore, if after doubling the applied electric power to the driver we get a 2 dB rise in SPL instead of the expected 3 dB, we can say that power compression equals 1 dB. An efficient cooling system to dissipate voice coil heat is very important to reduce power compression.NON-LINEAR VOICE COIL P ARAMETERSDue to its close coupling with the magnetic assembly , the voice coil in electrodynamic loudspeakers is a very non-linear circuit. Using the non- linear modeling parameters Krm, Kxm, Erm, Exm from an empirical model, we can calculate voice coil impedance with good accuracy.α+− −+=125T 1R R T T Kapton : Du Pont trademark.L O U D S P E A K E R SBRAZIL Address:ELETRÔNICA SELENIUM S.A.BR 386 Km 435 / 92.480-000 Nova Santa Rita - RS - Brazil Fax: +(55) 51 .brUSA Adress:SELENIUM USAUSAEUROPE Adress:SELENIUM EUROPEGermany Polar Response Curve.PROFESSIONAL LINE - Woofer15PW3 / 15PW3-SLF *30°210°60°240°90°270°120°300°150°330°180°0-6-10-20dB30°210°60°240°90°270°120°300°150°330°180°0-6-10-20dB30°210°60°240°90°270°120°300°150°330°180°0-6-10-20dB30°210°60°240°90°270°120°300°150°330°180°0-6-10-20dB30°210°60°240°90°270°120°300°150°330°180°0-6-10-20dB30°210°60°240°90°270°120°300°150°330°180°0-6-10-20dB30°210°60°240°90°270°120°300°150°330°180°0-6-10-20dB30°210°60°240°90°270°120°300°150°330°180°0-6-10-20dB30°210°60°240°90°270°120°300°150°330°180°0-6-10-20dB。

Enjoy!UNPACKING THE SPEAKERSIf you suspect damage from transit, report it immediately to your dealer. Keep the shipping carton and packing materials for future use.PLACEMENTSince the installation of a subwoofer can be somewhat more complicated than installation of full-range speakers, it is essential that you read this section very carefully prior to connecting the subwoofer to your system. Should you have questions relating to your installation, it is advisable to call your dealer or distributor for advice. The performance of the subwoofer is directly related to its placement in the listening room and how you align the subwoofer with its satellite speakers.Setting the volume of the subwoofer in relation to the left and right speakers is also of critical importance because it is essential that the subwoofer integrate smoothly with the entire system. Setting the subwoofer’s volume level too high will result in overpowering, boomy bass. Setting the volume level too low will negate the benefits of the subwoofer. Here are several additional facts on installation that may prove useful. It is generally believed by most audio authorities that low frequencies (below 125Hz)are nondirectional and, therefore, placement of a subwoofer within any listening room is not critical. While in theory it is true that the larger wavelengths of extremely low frequencies are basically nondirectional, the fact is that, when installing a subwoofer within the limited confines of a room, reflections, standing waves and absorptions generated within the room will strongly influence the performance of any subwoofer system. As a result, specific location of the subwoofer becomes important, and we strongly recommend that you experiment with placement before choosing a final location.Placement will depend upon your room and the amount and quality of bass required (for example, whether or not your room permits placement of the subwoofer near either satellite).Figure 1. This example shows the subwoofer positioned behind the right-channel satellite speaker to re-create the actual location of bass instruments in an orchestra and/or add impact to moviesoundtracks.JBL ®LS 120P POWERED SUBWOOFERINST ALLING SPIKED FEETFour metal spikes are supplied for use when the speaker is to be placed on a carpeted surface; using them decouples the speaker from the floor to prevent unwanted damping. To insert the spikes, gently lay the speaker on its side (not its front or back) on a soft, nonabrasive surface, and unscrew the rubber-tipped feet (store in a safe place). Each spike then screws into the threaded insert in each corner. Make sure all four spikes are screwed in completely for stability. To protect the surface of uncarpeted floors, set each spike into an included metal coaster.NEVER drag the speaker to move it, as this will damage the spikes, the feet, the wood cabinet itself, and/or the floor. Always lift the speaker and carry it to its newlocation.REAR PANELCONTROLS AND CONNECTIONS0Phase Switch1LFE/Normal Selector2Subwoofer-Level Control3Crossover Adjustment4Power Indicator5Line-Level/LFE Input6Power SwitchSYSTEM CONNECTIONSPOWER ONPlug your subwoofer’s AC cord into a wall outlet. Do not use the outlets on theback of the receiver.Initially set the Subwoofer-Level Control £to the “Min” position.Turn on your sub by pressing the Power Switch ¶on the rear panel.Turn on your entire audio system and start a CD or movie soundtrack ata moderate level.AUTO ON/STANDBYWith the Power Switch ¶in the “On” position, the Status LED ∞on the back will remain lit in red or green to indicate the On/Standby modeof the subwoofer.RED = STANDBY (no signal detected, Amp Off)GREEN = ON (signal detected, Amp On)The subwoofer will automatically enter the Standby mode after approximately 10 minutes when no signal is detected from your system. The subwoofer will then power ON instantly when a signal is detected. During periods of normal use, the Power Switch ¶can be left on. You may turn off the Power Switch¶for extended periods of nonoperation, e.g., when you are away on vacation. GETTING STARTEDTurn your Subwoofer-Level Control £up to the halfway position. If no soundemanates from the subwoofer, check the AC-line cord and input cables. Are theconnectors on the cables making proper contact? Is the AC plug connected toa “live” receptacle? Has the Power Switch 6been pressed to the “On” position? Once you have confirmed that the subwoofer is active, proceed by playing aCD, record or cassette. Use a selection that has ample bass information. ADJUST LEVELSet the overall volume control of the preamplifier or stereo to a comfortablelevel. Adjust the Subwoofer-Level Control £until you obtain a pleasing blendof bass. Bass response should not overpower the room but rather be adjustedso there is a harmonious blend across the entire musical range. Many usershave a tendency to set the subwoofer volume too loud, adhering to the beliefthat a subwoofer is there to produce lots of bass. This is not entirely true.A subwoofer is there to enhance bass, extending the response of the entiresystem so the bass can be felt as well as heard. However, overall balancemust be maintained or the music will not sound natural. An experiencedlistener will set the volume of the subwoofer so its impact on bass responseis always there but never obtrusive.PHASE CONTROLThe Phase Switch ¡determines whether the subwoofer speaker’s pistonlikeaction moves in and out with the main speakers, 0˚, or opposite the mainspeakers, 180˚. Proper phase adjustment depends on several variables suchas room size, subwoofer placement and listener position. Adjust the phaseswitch to maximize bass output at the listening position.CROSSOVER ADJUSTMENTThe Crossover Adjustment Control ¢determines the highest frequency atwhich the subwoofer reproduces sounds. If your main speakers can comfortablyreproduce some low-frequency sounds, set this control to a lower frequencysetting, between 50Hz and 100Hz. This will concentrate the subwoofer’sefforts on the ultradeep bass sounds required by today’s films and music. If you are using smaller bookshelf speakers that do not extend to the lowerbass frequencies, set the Crossover Adjustment control to a higher setting, between 120Hz and 150Hz.NOTE:This control will have no effect if the LFE/Normal Selector ™is setto LFE. If you have a Dolby Digital or DTS processor/receiver, the Low-PassFrequency is set by the processor/receiver. Consult your owner’s manualto learn how to view or change this setting. The enclosure may be cleaned using a soft cloth to remove fingerprints or to wipe off dust. The grille may be gently vacuumed. Stains may be removed with an aerosol cleaner, following its instructions. Do not use any solvents on the grille. All wiring connections should be inspected and cleaned or remade periodically. The frequency of maintenance depends on the metals involved in the connections, atmospheric conditions and other factors, but once per year is the minimum. In the event that your subwoofer ever needs service, contact your local JBL dealer, or visit for a service center near you.OPERATIONMAINTENANCE AND SERVICESPECIFICATIONSLS120PFrequency Response25Hz – 150HzAmplifier RMS Power 400 WattsAmplifier Peak Dynamic Power†700 WattsCrossover Frequency50Hz – 150Hz;24dB/octave, continuously adjustable Driver12" (300mm)PolyPlas™Dimensions (H x W x D)19-7/16" x 14-3/4" x 16-3/4" (enclosure only)(493mm x 375mm x 425mm) Dimensions (H x W x D)20-1/16" x 14-3/4" x 17-1/4"(with feet, controls, grille, etc.)(510mm x 375mm x 438mm)Weight57 lb (25.8kg)†The peak dynamic power is measured by recording the highest center-to-peakvoltage measured across the output of a resistive load equal to minimum impedanceof the transducer, using a 50Hz sine wave burst, 3 cycles on, 17 cycles off.Features, specifications and appearance are subject to change without notice.JBL is a trademark of Harman International Industries, Incorporated, registered in the United States and/or other countries. JBL Loudspeaker Troubleshooting/Repair Tips Most customers prefer to do simple loudspeaker repairs themselves. By following the steps below, a majority of loudspeakers can be returned to their original factory performance with minimum effort. Choose the example that best describes the problem you are experiencing. Problem 1: No sound or distorted sound from one loudspeaker in a pair (or set) Connect the dead/distorting loudspeaker to a different amplifier channel (one that had a functioning loudspeaker connected to it). If it functions normally, the problem is not loudspeaker-related. If the loudspeaker still makes no sound or sounds distorted, a wire may have become loose or disconnected, the network (also known as a crossover) may be defective, the drivers (woofer, tweeter, etc.) may be defective or, in very rare cases, all may be defective. Refer to the wiring diagram and exploded view below. The network is a small circuit board found on the inside of the terminal cup, or mounted to an inside wall of the enclosure. It sends low-frequency sounds to the woofer, high-frequency sounds to the tweeter and, if applicable, mid-frequency sounds to the midrange driver. Make sure all wires are secure and connected. Look for components on the network that look burnt, “bulged,” or abnormal. If everything looks normal, connect the network to the drivers from another matching loudspeaker. MAKE SURE you attach the correct wires to each driver – mid- and low-frequency sounds can damage the tweeter! If there is still no sound or distorted sound, the network is defective. If there is clean undistorted sound, the drivers are defective. Problem 2: No sound or distorted sound from one or more (but not all) drivers in an enclosure Remove the problem driver(s) from the enclosure and make sure all wires are secure and connected. If they are, proceed with the following test: Woofer or midrange driver – Connect the driver’s + and – input terminals directly to the loudspeaker wires from your receiver/amplifier and play some music at a reasonable volume. If the driver now sounds normal (produces a clean, undistorted sound), the network is most likely defective. Tweeter – Replace the tweeter with a functioning tweeter from another loudspeaker. If the tweeter now functions normally (produces clean, undistorted sound), the original tweeter is defective. If the replacement tweeter also sounds distorted or produces no sound, the network is most likely defective. Problem 3: Loudspeakers distort, rattle or pop at higher volumes This is usually NOT a loudspeaker problem. Common causes are too much power (playing the loudspeakers too loud and causing them to distort), an amplifier with not enough power (the amplifier can’t produce the required volume without distorting), excessive equalization (turning the tone controls too far clockwise, and/or engaging the loudness/bass boost button on your receiver) or some combination of the above. If only one loudspeaker is exhibiting the problem, and you’re confident that it’s not caused by too little power/too much power/excessive equalization, see solutions for Problems 1 and 2.
