英语试卷
时间:100分钟分数:120分
第一部分:阅读理解(共两节;第一节:共15小题,每小题2分,满分30分)
A
On the first day of my new high school, I almost had a nervous breakdown。
Everything about the school seemed so difficult。
When I got home, my parents said,“You're nervous and that's okay. Everyone is afraid of high school.” I denied it. I wanted to be strong, so I refused to let anyone know about my fear, even my closest friends. On the first day I was late for every class and was constantly lost。
The school seemed like a puzzle(迷宫) that I couldn't figure out. Was this how the whole year was going to be?I didn’t think I could rise to this challenge, especially carrying a huge backpack that I could hardly lift. It was so big that I could knock someone out with it! The schoolmates seemed to regard me as a fool, and they were probably right.
Despite my fears, after the first week I finally had my schedule figured out。
With the exception of falling up and down the stairs a couple of times and getting laughed at, high school was turning out to be not so bad。
It was actually much better than middle school and much more challenging.
Since then, I've been elected vice monitor of my class, which wasn’t much of a victory since only three people ran for the four positions。
It is normal to be scared about a new school. Take a deep breath and relax。
High school is something that any student can overcome. Make sure you participate in some outof class activities because you’ll find it easier to make friends. Try to do your
best,even if it isn't straight A’s.
Most important of all, be who you are, whether you're a “fool”, an athlete, or a lower grade r. Don't try to pretend to be someone you’re not. Now you know the true secrets of high school。
1. The main reason for the author’s fear on his first day is that ________.
A.he was not familiar with the new surroundings

4. According to the passage, the secret of the author’s success lies mainly in________。
A.making more friends B.getting more A's at school
C.being who he really is D.joining in out of class activities
B
Every day we go to school and listen to teachers, and the teacher will ask us some questions。
Sometimes, the classmates will ask your opinions of the work of the class. When you are telling others in the class what you have found out about these topics, remember that they must be able to hear what you are saying。
You are not taking part in a family conversation or having a chat with friends —-- you are in a situation where a large group of people will remain silent, waiting to hear what you have to say. You must speak so that they can hear you loudly enough and clearly enough but without trying to shout or appearing to force yourself。
Remember, too, that it is the same if you are called to an interview whether it is with a professor of your school or a government official who might meet you. The person you are seeing will try to put you at your ease in ordinary conversation but the situation is somewhat different from that of an ordinary conversation. You must take special care that you can be heard.
5。
When you speak to the class, you should speak __________。
A.as loudly as possible B.loudly C.in a low
voice D.forcefully
6。
The situation in the class is _________ that in your house.

B.that we must speak loudly
C.that we must keep silent at any time D.that we must talk with the class

Long bus rides are like television shows。
They have a beginning, a middle, and an end with commercials thrown in every three or four minutes. The commercials are unavoidable. They happen whether you want them or not。
Every couple of minutes a billboard glides by outside the bus window。
”Buy Super Clean Toothpaste。
” Drin k Good Wet Root Beer。
” Fill up with Pacific Gas。
” Only if you sleep, which is equal to turning the television set off,are you spared the unending cry of ”You Need It!Buy It Now!"
The beginning of the ride is comfortable and somewhat exciting, even if you've traveled that way before. Usually some things have changed new houses, new buildings, sometimes even a new road。
The bus driver has a style of driving and it’s fun to try to figure it out the first hour or so。
If the driver is particularly reckless (鲁莽的) or daring, the ride can be as thrilling (惊心动魄的) as a suspense story. Will the driver pass the truck in time? Will the driver move into the right or the left hand lane? After a while, of course, the excitement dies down. Sleeping for a while helps pass the middle hours of the ride. Food always makes bus rides more interesting。
But you’ve got to be careful of what kind of food you eat。
Too much salty food can make you very thirsty between stops。
The end of the ride is somewhat like the beginning。
You know it will soon be over and there’s a kind of expectation and excitement in that。
The seat of course, has become harder as the hours have passed. By now you’ve sat with your legs crossed, with your hands in your lap, with your hands on the armrests even with your hands crossed
behind your head. The end comes just at no more ways to sit.
8。
According to the passage, what do the passengers usually see when they are on a long bus trip?
A。
Advertisements on the billboards. B。
Films on television.
C。
Buses on the road. D。
Gas stations.
9. What is the purpose of this passage?
A. To give the writer’s opinion about long bus trips。
B。
To persuade you to take a long bus trip.
C。
To explain how bus trips and television shows differ.
D. To describe the billboards along the road.
10。
The writer of this passage would probably favor 。
A. bus drivers who aren’t reckless B。
driving alone
C。
a television set on the bus D. no billboards along the road
11。
The writer feels long bus rides are like TV shows because . A。

Tokyo is one of those places that you can love and hate at the same time。
In Tokyo there are always too many people in the places where I want to go. Of course there are too many cars. The Japanese drive very fast, but in Tokyo they often spend a long time in traffic jams. Tokyo is not different from London, Paris and New York in that, it is different when one wants to walk。
At certain times of the day there are a lot of people on foot in London’s Oxford Street。
But the streets near the Ginze in Tokyo always have a lot of people on foot, and sometimes it is really difficult to walk. People are very polite; there are just too many of them。
The worst time to be in the street is at 11:30 at night. That is when the night—clubs are closing and every—body wants to go home。
There are 35,000 night—clubs in Tokyo, and you do not often see one that is empty(空的).
During the day, most people travel to and from work by train. Tokyo people buy six million train tickets every day. At most stations, trains arrive every two or three minutes, but at certain hours there do not seem to be enough trains. Although they are usually crowded, Japanese trains are very good。
They always leave and arrive on time.
In Tokyo, I stood outside the station for five minutes。
Three fire-engines raced past on the way to one of the many fires that Tokyo has every day。
Tokyo has so many surprises that none of them can really surprise me now。
13. Tokyo is different from London in that ______。
A。
it has a larger population B. there are more traffic jams
C。
night clubs are sometimes empty D。
it is more difficult to go somewhere on foot 14。
Fires break out___________ in Tokyo according to the writer.
A. not very often B。
only several times a day
C. quite often
D. very seldom
15。
Japanese trains ______
A. often leave and arrive on time
B。
are often crowded
C. are the main means people use to travel to and from work
D。
all of the above
