My Super Summer Vacation
Summer vacation is the best time of the year for a kid like me! This past summer was totally awesome. I got to do so many fun things and had adventures I'll never forget.
It all started on the last day of school. I was so excited for summer to begin, I could barely sit still in class. As soon as the final bell rang, I raced out of the building yelling "Freedom!" at the top of my lungs. No more teachers, no more books, no more sitting at desks all day long. Just months and months of fun and freedom stretching out ahead.
The first couple weeks I just hung out at home playing video games, watching TV, and annoying my little brother. But I got bored with that pretty quickly. Luckily, my parents had signed me up for a bunch of summer camps and activities to keep me busy.
The first camp was basketball camp. I love basketball so I was stoked! We did drills and scrimmages every day. The coaches
worked us hard but it was a blast. I even won the Hot Shot competition for my age group! My parents were really proud when I brought home the trophy.
After basketball camp, I went to coding camp for two weeks. That was a new experience since I didn't know anything about coding before. But I actually ended up really enjoying it! By the end of the camp, I could program simple games and apps. My favorite was the snake game I made. I'm thinking of joining the coding club at school next year.
The highlight of my summer though was definitely sleep away camp up in the mountains. I was a little nervous at first to be away from my family for two whole weeks. But I made friends with the boys in my cabin right away and we had an absolute blast!
We went hiking, swimming in the lake, made s'mores around the campfire, and played capture the flag in the woods. My favorite was archery - I was a total natural! I hit the bullseye from like 50 feet away and became the champion archer of the camp. How cool is that?
On the overnight camping trip, we saw a family of bears from a safe distance. They were digging through the bushes looking for food. It was amazing to see real bears in the wild like
that! Our counselor scared them away before they got too close to our campsite, thank goodness.
In between all the scheduled activities, we had free time where we could just run around in the woods, play sports, or just chill. Me and my friends liked free time best because we could get into little mischief. Like raiding the kitchen for extra snacks after lights out. Or having goofy pillowfights in the cabin. We may have gotten into a tiny bit of trouble, but we never did anything too crazy. The counselors still thought we were angels.
I didn't want to leave when those two weeks were up! I made my parents promise to send me back again next summer. Although I'll be in middle school by then, so I'll probably be too "cool" to admit I loved sleepaway camp. But I totally did!
After sleep away camp, the rest of summer flew by. We took a family vacation to the beach for a week, which was a nice chance to relax. I spent everyday boogie boarding in the waves and building sandcastles. Even got a little tan for once!
As the new school year rolled around, I couldn't believe summer was already over. Where did the time go? I definitely made the most of my vacation though. Playing basketball, learning to code, becoming an archer and making mischief at
sleepaway camp. It was an epic couple months that I'll never forget!
If I'm being totally honest, I'm not that sad summer is over. Don't get me wrong, I loved every second of vacation. But I'm actually kind of excited to start 5th grade. My friends and I have agreed that this is the year we're going to rule the school. We've got big plans, let me tell you! Mostly about taking over the kickball tournament and putting on the funniest skit in the school talent show. Oh, and maybe playing a prank or two on the teachers. Nothing too crazy though, just a little good-natured fun to keep them on their toes.
Fifth grade is going to be the best year yet, I can feel it in my bones. I'll still be daydreaming about summer vacation sometimes when I'm stuck at my desk. Those carefree months of adventures and freedom can never be beaten. But school won't be too bad as long as my friends and I stick together. We're going to own the fifth grade, just you wait and see!

My Summer Vacation
The last day of school was the best day ever! All my classmates were so excited because summer vacation was finally
here. No more waking up early, no more homework, and no more tests for two whole months! I had so many fun plans for the summer.
The first couple of weeks, I got to sleep in late every morning. My parents let me stay up late too, watching movies or playing video games. I didn't have any summer reading assignments, so I could read whatever books I wanted just for fun. My favorite was the latest Dogman book - it was sooo funny and the illustrations were awesome!
In mid-June, my family went on a big road trip vacation. We drove 8 hours to go to an amazing waterpark resort in Pennsylvania. They had these huge waterslides that looped all the way around like a rollercoaster! The scariest one was called the "Triple Thunder" - I absolutely loved it even though my little brother was too afraid to go on it. There were loads of other slides and pools too, including a huge wave pool. We spent three days just swimming and splashing around.
After the waterpark, we drove a couple more hours to visit my aunt, uncle, and cousins in Ohio. We stayed at their house for about a week. My cousins Sam and Emma are twins who are a year younger than me. We always have a blast playing together when our families get together. This time, we went mini-golfing,
played laser tag, and the grown-ups took us all to an amusement park called Cedar Point which had some of the craziest rollercoasters I've ever been on!
Once we got back home from our trip, the hottest part of summer was just beginning. My best friend Kyle lives on my street, so we were able to get together almost every day. We played basketball or just hung out in his backyard a lot. Sometimes we went to the community pool or set up a
slip-and-slide in my front yard sprinklers. We had epic water balloon fights that always ended up totally drenching the both of us!
Towards the end of July, my parents sent me to a day camp for two weeks. The camp was all about science and technology, which I'm really interested in. We got to do all kinds of cool experiments and projects, like making our own lava lamps, building robots, and even launching stomp rockets! My favorite was probably the DNA experiment where we extracted DNA from a strawberry. I made a ton of new friends at camp who were into the same geeky stuff as me.
After camp ended, it was already nearly time to go back to school. I couldn't believe how fast summer vacation had flown by! My family tried to squeeze in a couple more fun activities those
last couple weeks, like going to the movies to see the new Paw Patrol film, having a big backyard barbecue with our neighbors, and getting myself prepared with new school supplies like a fresh pack of colored pencils and a cool Spiderman lunchbox.
The very last weekend before 5th grade started up, my parents took me and my brother to the State Fair. We went on all the classic rides like the Tilt-a-Whirl and Ferris Wheel. We played games in the midway, ate way too much greasy fair food like funnel cakes and corn dogs, petted the animals in the petting zoo, and watched some hilarious pig races. After the fair, I felt like I had really gotten to soak up the last drops of summer fun.
Finally, the first day of school arrived. I was definitely a little sad that summer was over, but I had a great time making all those awesome memories. And I can't wait to share the highlights of my vacation with my class! This school year is going to be the best one yet - I just know it!

My School Life
School is a big part of my life. I spend so much time there every week! It's where I learn new things, make friends, and have fun. Let me tell you all about my school days.
I wake up pretty early, around 6:30am, to get ready for school. My mom makes me breakfast, which is usually cereal or oatmeal. Then I brush my teeth, get dressed, pack my backpack, and I'm out the door! The school bus comes at 7:30. I like riding the bus because I get to chat with my friends.
Once we get to school, we line up outside until the bell rings at 8:15am. Then we go to our classrooms and get started with our first class of the day - math! Math is okay, but it's not my favorite subject. Sometimes it's really hard and confusing. My favorite part is when we play games to practice our skills.
After math, we have reading time. I love reading! We take turns reading out loud from chapter books. Right now, we're reading the Magic Tree House series, which is so adventurous and exciting. Our teacher also reads to us sometimes, using funny voices for different characters. Reading time is the best.
Around 10am, we get a snack break. My mom usually packs me an apple or granola bar. We're allowed to talk quietly with our friends during snack time, which is fun. Then it's time for science or social studies. In science, we just started a unit on ecosystems and habitats. We'll get to go on a field trip to a local nature center soon, which I'm really looking forward to!
After those classes, it's lunchtime at 11:30am. I eat the lunch that my mom packs me in the cafeteria with my friends. We compare whose mom makes the tastiest sandwiches and trade snacks sometimes. Lunchtime is also when we can go play outside on the playground equipment for recess if the weather is nice. Playing on the swings and monkey bars is my favorite!
Once lunchtime is over, we go back to our homeroom class for writing and grammar practice. Writing isn't my strongest area, but I'm working on it. At least I get to be creative and write fun stories!
Finally, the last class of the day is art, music, gym, or computers - it rotates each day. Those are the best classes because they're hands-on and active. In art, we get to use paints, clay, and do all sorts of crafts. Music is cool because we sing songs and learn about instruments. Gym class means we play games and do exercises in the gym. And computers is where we practice typing and learn coding.
By 3:00pm, the school day is done! We gather our things and wait to get picked up by our parents or hop on the bus again to go home. After getting home, I have a snack, play outside for a while, and start my homework. Once I'm done with that, I have some free time to read, watch TV, or play games until dinner.
Going to school is tiring since the days are so long, but they're also really fun! I get to learn new things every single day. I have amazing teachers who make the lessons engaging. And best of all, I get to spend time with all my friends. We joke around, play at recess, and support each other when the work gets hard. My friends are what make school so awesome.
Even though there's still a few more years of elementary school left, I'm already excited to go to middle school one day. I'll get to change classes, meet new teachers, join clubs and sports teams, and take more advanced subjects. Who knows what great experiences are waiting for me there! But for now, I'm just trying to soak up and enjoy every day of my last few years here. School life keeps me busy, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

My Super Cool Summer Vacation
Wow, I had the best summer vacation ever this year! It was so awesome and fun. I went to so many cool places and did a bunch of really fun activities. I can't wait to tell you all about it!
It all started at the very beginning of summer break when my family went on an epic road trip. We drove all the way from our
house in New York City down to Florida. It took like a million hours, but it was still really fun. We stopped at lots of fun places along the way like Hershey's Chocolate World in Pennsylvania and this giant beach ball sculpture thing in Virginia.
When we finally got to Florida, we stayed at this gigantic resort right on the beach. It had water parks, arcades, mini golf courses, and everything! The hotel room was as big as a house and the pool area was insane. There were these huge waterslides that went all the way up into the sky. I must have gone down them a hundred times!
We also went to a bunch of theme parks while we were in Florida. We visited Disney World and Universal Studios. My favorite ride was definitely the Incredible Hulk roller coaster at Universal's Islands of Adventure. That coaster was SO intense! It went upside down like 7 times I think. My little brother threw up after going on it, haha! The new Star Wars land at Disney's Hollywood Studios was also really cool. It felt like you were actually walking around on another planet.
After we got back home from Florida, we didn't have too much time before we headed out on our next big trip - to the great outdoors! My parents surprised me and my siblings by taking us on a camping trip out west. We flew to Colorado and
then drove up into the mountains. We stayed at a few different campsites and hiked on all these beautiful trails surrounded by trees and wildlife. We even saw a bear one time!
Camping was a lot of fun, but it was also pretty hard work setting up the tent and cooking over the fire every night. I got pretty dirty and smelly, but it was still an awesome experience. My favorite part was probably when we went whitewater rafting down a rapid river. The rapids were crazy and we got absolutely soaked, but it was a total adrenaline rush.
When we got back home to New York, I thought my summer of adventures was over. Boy, was I wrong! My parents had one more surprise up their sleeves - they sent me off to sleepaway camp for 2 whole weeks! I was pretty nervous at first, but camp ended up being a blast.
At camp, I got to do all sorts of cool activities like archery, rock climbing, kayaking, and even ziplining through the trees! I made a bunch of new friends from all over the country too. We stayed up late every night telling spooky stories and roasting
s'mores over the campfire. I didn't want camp to end!
Overall, this was definitely the most fun and exciting summer I've ever had. We went to so many awesome places and I got to try a ton of new things that I had never done before. I made so
many incredible memories that I'll never forget. I just wish summer could last forever so I could keep on having adventures!

My Summer Vacation
Summer vacation is the best time of year! School is out and we get to do fun things for two whole months. This summer was super awesome and I have so much to tell you about.
It started off with a bang on the 4th of July. My family and I went to my aunt and uncle's house for a big barbecue and pool party. We swam and played games all day. When it got dark, we had a huge fireworks show in their backyard. My cousin Tommy kinda messed up though and accidentally lit a fountain firework facing the wrong way. It went shooting across the yard and landed in the pool with a huge splash! We all got soaked but thought it was really funny.
A week later, my parents surprised me and my little brother with a trip to Disney World in Florida! I was so excited because I had never been there before. We stayed at one of the Disney
resort hotels that was shaped like a giant ship. Our hotel had awesome pools with waterslides and poolside movies at night.
The parks were magical! We spent three days at the Magic Kingdom riding classics like Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and the Haunted Mansion. I loved all the themed lands like Adventureland and Frontierland. Mom and Dad even let us stay up late to watch the fireworks show in front of the castle every night. My favorite park though was Epcot. I'm a big science nerd so I loved the rides and exhibits all about technology and future innovation. I also tried foods from around the world in the World Showcase part of the park.
After Disney, we went down to the Florida beaches for a few days. We built huge sandcastles, collected seashells, and went boogie boarding in the ocean waves. One day we took a boat tour and saw some awesome marine life like dolphins, manatees, and even a shark! Our captain said it was just a small reef shark and they're not dangerous to humans, but it was still pretty cool to see.
When we got back home to Kentucky, I went to summer camp for two weeks at the county park. I go to Camp Wildwood every summer and it's always a blast. We hiked, did archery, went canoeing, made crafts, and sat around the campfire making
s'mores in the evenings. My favorite activity though is always capture the flag. The counselors divide us into two teams and we have an epic battle in the woods trying to get each other's flag. This year my team, the Ravens, beat the Wolves for the championship!
After camp, my friend Rachel came over for a week-long sleepover. It was so much fun having her stay with us. We did typical sleepover things like having pillow fights, giving each other crazy makeovers with mom's makeup, and pulling
all-nighters watching movies while pigging out on junk food. We also went skating at the roller rink, saw a movie at the drive-in theater, and had a huge water balloon fight in the backyard.
My birthday was at the end of July and Mom and Dad really outdid themselves for my party this year. They rented out a trampoline park for a few hours and invited my whole class! We got to jump and flip on all the different trampolines, dodgeball courts, and foam pits. We even got to try out the new virtual reality game they had. After jumping, we had pizza, ice cream, and I got to open a mountain of presents from my friends. It was an epic birthday bash!
The last few weeks of summer I just spent relaxing at home - swimming at the pool, having sleepovers with friends, reading
books, and playing video games. Summer always seems to go by way too fast though. Before I knew it, it was time to start getting ready for 5th grade. I went school supply shopping with Mom to get new notebooks, pencils, folders, and a fresh backpack. I'm actually really excited to start a new grade and see my friends again every day. Even though summer was crazy fun, I didn't want it to last forever. I'm ready for a new school year and all the exciting things it will bring! Well, there's a recap of my amazing summer vacation. I made so many incredible memories to look back on. I can't wait to see what adventures and milestones 5th grade has in store for me!

My Summer Vacation
Yay, it was finally summer vacation! No more homework, no more waking up early, and two whole months of freedom. I had so many fun plans for the summer.
The first week, my family went on a road trip to the Grand Canyon. We piled into our minivan with our suitcases and snacks and hit the road. It took us two days of driving to get there, but it was so worth it when I saw the humongous canyon with my own eyes. It's called "grand" for a good reason! The layers of red and
orange rock seemed to go on forever. We went on a little hike into the canyon and I felt so tiny compared to those giant walls towering all around me. I tried to imagine how long it must have taken for all that rock to slowly get carved out over millions of years by the Colorado River. Mind-blowing!
After the Grand Canyon, we drove over to San Diego to visit my cousins. I was super excited because they have a pool and I love swimming. We had awesome pool parties almost every day. We'd cannonball into the water, have underwater tea parties, and have contests to see who could hold their breath the longest. One time we even filled up a bunch of water balloons and had an epic water balloon fight in the backyard! My cousin Tyler got me right in the face - splat! I got him back though by ambushing him from behind the bushes. We ended up totally soaked and covered in water balloon shrapnel, but we didn't care because we were having a blast.
Another fun thing we did in San Diego was go to the beach. I love playing in the ocean waves and burying my brother in the sand. We brought buckets and shovels to build awesome sandcastles too. My brother and I tried to make the most elaborate castle we could, with multiple towers, tunnels, and a moat all around it. A few other kids came over and asked if they
could help, so we all worked together on creating this mega sandcastle. We worked on it for hours and it turned out amazing! But then the tide came in and knocked down part of the defenses, so we had to quickly reinforce the walls. We fought hard, but in the end, the ocean overtook our castle and washed it all away. By then we were totally worn out, but it had been an epic battle that I'll never forget.
For the Fourth of July, my whole family got together for a reunion and big celebration. We went to my aunt and uncle's house because they have a huge backyard that's perfect for setting off fireworks. As soon as it got dark, my cousin David kicked things off by lighting a fountain firework that sprayed sparks thirty feet into the air. Then we lined up an arsenal of Roman candles, spinners, poppers, and massive aerial rockets. We sat in our lawn chairs, eyes wide with excitement as we took turns lighting them and oohing and ahhing at each colorful burst. My uncle got this really crazy firework called a "firing box" that shot out multiple rockets in crazy patterns one after another. The grand finale was an overhead artillery shell that seemed to hang in the sky forever before exploding into a giant willow pattern of red, white, and blue sparkles. What an incredible show!
After that, we had two weeks of summer camp. I went to a day camp at the local nature center where we went on hikes, played games, did crafts and science projects. One of my favorite days was when we made stomp rockets out of plastic bottles and launched them hundreds of feet into the air by stomping on the bottle. I worked really hard on mine, adjusting the fins and putting just the right amount of air in it so it would be perfectly aerodynamic. My rocket flew higher than anyone else's! I felt so proud of myself.
Another awesome day at camp was when we built simple machines and had a competition to see whose machine could pull a truck the farthest. My friend Maya and I worked together and built a compound machine using levers, pulleys, an inclined plane, and a wheel and axle. It looked a bit like a cross between a trebuchet and a crane. When it was our turn, we pulled on the ropes and our truck got dragged all the way across the field! We jumped up and down screaming "We did it! We did it!" The counselors were super impressed and said we had earned a special prize.
Too soon, summer vacation was coming to an end. For our last hurrah, we went camping up in the mountains. We hiked a few miles into the woods carrying our heavy backpacks to get to
our campsite. Once we got there, my dad showed us how to put up our tent using stakes and guide ropes. Then we collected tinder and firewood to start our campfire. We roasted hot dogs and made gooey s'mores for dinner. As night fell, we stared up at a sky completely full of stars - so many more than you can see from the city. A few meteors even streaked across the sky which was super cool! We told ghost stories and made fun of the ridiculous noises my little brother's sleeping bag made whenever he moved around.
Early the next morning, my dad woke us up before sunrise to go fishing at the lake. We had to walk through the woods in the pitch black using only our flashlights to see. It seemed kind of spooky at first, but also adventurous and exciting. When we got to the shore and could start to make out our surroundings as the sun came up, the lake looked beautiful and perfectly still like a giant mirror. We couldn't get any fish to bite, but we did spot a couple of deer coming down to the water to drink, which was amazing to see up close.
After our camping trip, it was time to start getting ready for school again. My biggest disappointment was having to say goodbye to my cousins since they live across the country from us.
I gave them all big bear hugs and made them promise to keep in
touch over email and social media. As I looked back on summer vacation, I felt so lucky to have had such an amazing couple of months. Going to new places, having fun adventures, and making awesome memories with my family and friends. Fifth grade is going to be great, but I'm already counting down the days until next summer!。
