Teaching steps
Step 1. Revision & Presentation
Review the useful expressions to be used to describe a lively city.
Step 2. Pronunciation. Stressed words in sentences.
Listen to this extract from Listening and vocabulary activity 2. Underline the stressed words in each sentence. Then work in pairs. Read the extract, stressing the underlined words.
Step 3. Everyday English.
Listen to the listening passage in Listening and vocabulary activity
2. Then work in pairs, discuss the following exercises. Finally, check answers together. Step 4. Function and speaking, showing position and direction.
1.Answer the questions. Use the words in the brackets.
2. Imagine a situation that student A has newly moved to student B's neighborhood. Work in pairs of two and make a dialogue. Student A ask Student B some questions,
especially about direction. B answer A's questions. Give him or her as much useful information as possible about your neighborhood and give directions.
Step5. Writing. Look at the way the words and and but are used in this sentence from A Lively City.
Step 6. Consolidation.
Work in group of two and make more sentences with and and but.
Step 7. Homework.
Write a short composition about Panzhihua, our home city. Try to use the conjunctions and\but, and the useful expressions of directions.。
