I encountered God the summer I was five. My father had finally grown too sick to get out of bed, so the heat and nervous tension in the air inside the house made it impossible to breathe. I would escape by squeezing under the front porch. All manner of creatures lived there, but I mostly ignored them, with one exception — a little frog who, every time I crawled (爬行) under the porch, stared at me with great, golden eyes.
In late June, the frog finally hopped (跳跃) toward my arm and stared at me, demanding eye contact. Once he had my attention, he opened his wide mouth and said, “Hello, Sophie.”
I should have been shocked, but for some reason, I wasn’t. Perhaps at five years old, I was more receptive to something against the laws of nature. At any rate, I was not shocked that a frog could speak. I had a more pressing question.
"How do you know my name?”
The frog blinked slowly. “I know everything. I am God.”
I spoke, "You can’t be God. You’re too small.”
He extended a long, webbed finger and was pointing to the edge of the porch’s shadow—to the spot where my mother had tried to grow flowers there for years. She had stopped trying when my father’s condition worsened.
"Look there,” commanded the frog, and I stared as a beautiful white flower blossomed as if stretching its limbs after a long sleep. In my five years, I had never seen anything so splendid.
God and I became good friends that summer. I spent every day under the porch, talking to him.
Sometimes I asked God questions. Sometimes he answered. Once, I asked him where Heaven was.
"Heaven,” he said, “is where I live.”
In August, my father’s illness had progressed to the point that I was sent to my aunt’s house in Virginia. I told God I would be back soon, and then waited in Virginia for my father to get better.
注意:
1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
2. 应使用5个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语;
3. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;

Paragraph 1:
Six months later, I came back home for my father’s funeral.
______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ____
Paragraph 2:
Suddenly, an idea crossed my mind that my father might travel to Heaven.
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________ ____
Paragraph 1:
Six months later, I came back home for my father’s funeral. Death is very confusing for a child. I didn’t understand what it meant to die; all I knew was that my father had been lying in his bed and receiving medical treatment for his illness when I left, and now when I came back, he was nowhere to be found. He must be hiding somewhere, I was sure; people couldn’t just disappear, especially without saying good-bye. Though my mother told me he had “passed on”, I thought she meant he’d traveled to another town.
Paragraph 2:
Suddenly, an idea crossed my mind that my father might travel to Heaven. I knew exactly how to find my father. I ran to the front porch. However, I had grown during those six months in Virginia, and I could no longer squeeze into the porch’s shadows. I sat in front of the porch all afternoon, calling for someone to answer me. No voice came. No father returned from the dead. No frog jumped out of its hiding spot. I was too big to talk to God, so I started to cry.

1. I didn’t understand what it meant to die此句为what引导的宾语从句。

2. Though my mother told me he had “passed on”, I thought she meant he’d traveled to another town.

3. I knew exactly how to find my father.

It is common and usual to see people freak out when they face challenges in their life. We all pass in different life problems and challenges. No one is free of life problems. Only a dead man faces no problem. As long as you are alive, challenges are everywhere.
How do you face problems and challenges in your life? Problems and challenges are the building blocks of your personality. They make you who you are. Besides, whether what happened in your life builds or destructs you depends on how you look at it. If you take your problems as troubles, they will be troubles and may cause destruction. If you take them as constructive tools, you are going to be built up on them.
Problems are everywhere. No one can avoid them. And they are good too. They open up a different look and opportunity if you are willing to see. When you face troubles, do not frustrate or freak out. Just cool yourself to think in a different direction. Think in a positive way. Every problem has its own good as well as bad sides. Focus on the good one. Look at the bright side.
Besides, there is always a good person, perhaps your mom or dad, or one of your friends, right beside you who can turn everything into your best if you are willing to turn to them. No matter what happens-, they will be there to help you. Trust them and they

21. When we say older people shrink,we don't mean they become tiny enough to fit in your pocket! We just mean that it's common for older people to become a little shorter over time. This kind of shrinking can't be reversed, although people can slow or stop this process. But why does shrinking happen at all?
Because of gravity (that force that keeps your feet on the ground),cushions between the bones in the spine (脊骨),get compressed(压缩),which makes a person lose a little height and become shorter.
Another reason why some older people shrink is osteoporosis (骨质疏松).Osteoporosis occurs when bone is broken down and not enough new bone material is made.Over time, bone is said to be lost because it's not being replaced.Bones become smaller and weaker and can easily break if someone with osteoporosis is injured.
Did you know that every day you shrink a little, too? You aren't as tall at the end of the day as you are at the beginning. That's because as the day goes on,water in the disks of the spine gets compressed due to gravity, making you just a tiny bit shorter.Don't worry, though.Once you get a good night's rest, your body recovers, and the next morning, you're standing tall again!
Smoking and drinking alcohol can make this problem worse.Want to do something right now to build strong bones? I believe what I will say will help you.

A.For shrinking, people can do nothing about it.
B.If someone is injured,he will become shorter.
C.Women have smaller and lighter bones than men.

C.We should sleep as long as possible.
D.We should keep away from smoking and drinking alcohol.
48.What is the topic of the passage?
A.How can we stop shrinking? B.Why do we shrink?
C.Some tips on how to keep tall.D.How to live a healthy life.
49.About osteoporosis we know that _______.
A.gravity is one of the causes of osteoporosis
B.once our bone is broken down, osteoporosis will occur
C.women are more likely to develop osteoporosis
