Sheryl Sandberg is the chief operating officer (COO) of Facebook. In June 2012, she was elected to the board (董事会) of directors, becoming the first woman to serve on Facebook’s bo ard. Before joining Facebook as its COO, Sandberg was a vice president at Google Company. She has been at or near the summit of two giant Internet companies. If you loo k at the facts of Sandberg’s career, it would seem that she has made effortless progress from being top in high school to academic brilliance at Harvard, and to the height of the business world.
She has suffered tragedy in her life. In 2015, her husband, the father of their two children, died from a heart attack at the early age of 47. Apart from this, it might look as if life has been easy for Sandberg. But the appearance of her “effortless” progress disguises a lot of hard work and obstacles due to prejudice against her sex.
Some of this is revealed in her book Learn In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead. Talking about women and success, Sandberg writes: “As a man gets more successful, he is better liked by men and women, and as a woman gets more successful she is less liked by men and women.”
To an extent, she is concerned about the general inequality between sexes. Equality between men and women seems to be her ideal she thinks we should pursue. This view is summed up in her comment: “A truly equal world would be one where ran half our countries and companies and men ran half our homes”.
Sandberg also has her critics. Many say that her criticism of sexism is fine, but she pays attention only to powerful and wealthy women. They argue that little she says about women and work has much relevance to lower-paid women.
If you don’t know about Sheryl Sandberg, look out for her. She is sure to remain in the spotlight for years to
come, whether in business, or perhaps even politics.

For most of us, the arrival of social media reshaped our life in many ways - how we got news and how we interacted with our friends. However, for others, it turned out to be a curse.
According to a study by researchers from San Diego State University, there may be a link between the rise of suicide rates among young US people and social media. The study involved about half a million young people from the US aged 13 to 18. Jean Twenge, lead author of the study, believes that one factor could be to blame - the rise in social media use. It’s thought that social media posts of p eople showing off their apparently good lives could be having a negative impact on young people.
This problem isn’t unique to the US. In the UK, Esther Rantzen, the founder and president of Childline (a famous telephone helpline) believes that the reason f or this is social media. “The virtual reality conveys the impression that everybody is gloriously attractive, wonderfully funny, liked by like-minded people,” she said, “The fact is that this can strengthen the loneliness and isolation of a child or young person, who is made to feel inadequate because they may not have a single person they can turn to and trust.”
These results seemed to consist with the experience of Samantha Price, head teacher of Benenden, a private boarding school in the UK. The school recently carried out a campaign in which students voluntarily handed over their phones to avoid using social media for three days.
“When young people have time away from social media, they see and feel the benefits: they sleep better,
concentrate and therefore learn release.
However, it doesn’t mean that young people should be completely banned from using social media. Limiting screen time to one or two hours per day is a safe step forward. “Of course, social media and the Internet are not the enemy, but it is a matter of finding the right balance,” said Price.
29. Why does social media use cause the suicide rate increase?
A. Social media make people in virtual reality.
B. Social media make communication easier.

Too often we read a story that breaks our hearts: a story about the death of a promising student or the burden one person will carry for a lifetime because of a traffic accident due to being distracted. 10 percent of all drivers 15 to 19 years old involved in fatal crashes were reported as distracted at the time of the crashes, the largest percentage of any age group.
An essential step in prevention is raising awareness of the dangers of distracted driving. In 2014, 3179 people were killed, and 431,000 were injured in car crashes involving distracted drivers. So, for every death, there were over 100 persons injured, many with permanent damage.
Distracted driving occurs whenever you stop devoting your full attention to driving. You ask your brain to begin multitasking every time you talk to the passenger in your car, change the station on the radio or use your smartphones. These distractions contribute to cognitive (认知的) overload that the brain simply cannot handle.
The human brain is very powerful, but it is terrible at multitasking. Most of us can store fewer than 10 unique items in our active memory at one time. Texting or talking on your smartphone uses the same amount of your active memory as driving. For over 97 percent of us, our brains cannot do both activities accurately at the same time.
Research shows that just listening to someone speak to you in the car can reduce the amount of attention paid to driving by 37 percent. Talking or texting on a smartphone is even more demanding, even when using a hands-free device.
It is also important to know that glancing up and down between your smartphone and the road does not solve the problem. Human can’t shift focus fr om one activity to the other fast enough. Studies show that it can take the brain several seconds to focus fully on a new task. Being distracted while driving for even a few seconds can be life -threatening.
33. What is the main purpose of this passage?
A. To analyse why traffic accidents happen.
B. To tell us not to use cellphones when driving.
C. To warn us not to drive distractedly.
D. To tell us how to reduce traffic accidents.
34. Why does distracted driving often cause traffic accident?
A. The human brain is weak in multitasking.
B. The human brain can store fewer than 10 unique items.
C. Driving is more demanding for the brain.
D. People can’t devote full attention when driving.
35. How does the writer show the dangers of distracted driving in this passage?
A. By making comparisons.
B. By analyzing the situations.
C. By giving examples.
D. By listing the statistics.

Wushu is an important part of Chinese culture. It has a long history and is known to everyone in China. Now many Chinese still practise Wushu to build up their bodies. Many foreigners have enjoyed and started practising Wushu.
If you have a chance to come to China and join us, I promise you can feel its charm. I am sure you will enjoy it.
Yours,
