The word ‘OK’ celebrates its 177th birthday
—— People can make a hand gesture to say “OK”.“OK”:世界上最
通用的语言。

Usually , you don ’t find the same words in different
languages. But there is an exception for the word“OK”!
The word OK first appeared ( 出现 ) in the Boston Morning
Post on March 23, 1839. It was an abbreviation ( 缩写 ) of the
phrase“oll korrect ”, an incorrect spelling of“all
correct ”. Although it began as a joke, people later used
the phrase on documents (文件) or through telegraphs (电
报) to say that all was well.
This year, OK celebrated its 177th birthday. We use this expression countless
times every day.“How about two o’clock? OK?” “OK.” “OK then.” The word OK
is easy to say, write and understand.
Besides, it is more neutral (中立的) than many words. Allen Metcalf, American
author of OK: The Improbable Story of America’s Greatest Word, told The Times, “What OKprovided that other words did not was neutrality, a way to express agreement without having to offer an opinion.” For example,if someone asks you to go for a walk after lunch, you can simply respond,“OK”. There you go–no extra opinions.
OK can be spelled in different ways: okay or O.K. They are all pronounced the
same. But“OK”is the most widely accepted spelling and is often used in writing.
Some people, however, like the spelling“okay” because it looks more like a word.
Sometimes, people also say short forms of OK like“K”. For example, someone might say,“I’m just going to the supermarket, but I’ll be back in 10 minutes.”You could reply with,“K”.
OKis so useful that it ’s said worldwide. You may not know the language of someone you’re talking with, but saying “OK” with gestures ( 手势 ) can help you communicate. —— Choose the answer:

VR makes you part of a new world
—— A visitor tries a VR headset during the
2016 China International Electronic Commerce
Expo. AFP虚构现实究竟是什么?
People are saying that virtual
reality technology (VR,虚构现实技术)
is going to change our lives in the
future. VR technology puts you in a new
world when you ’re really just standing
in your room.
VR is a computer technology that
creates a 360° environment for users to see. They can even interact (互动) with everything around them. All you have to do is put on a set of goggles (护目镜). The technology follows the user’s head movements, and then the view changes in this
virtual world too.
And now, moviemakers are trying to put you in the movies with VR! But directors
are trying to figure out the visual effects to make this work. Usually the director
shows people what to see, but with VR, the user is in control.
You can be in space with Matt Damonin The Martian or be in the world of the movie Frozen. It ’s the next step up from 3-D and IMAXfilms. But the amazing part is,instead of watching the action you will be a part of it.
This isn ’t where the potential for VRends either. The Guardian says scientists are looking for ways VR could help children with attention deficit disorder (多动症) and old soldiers who face post-traumatic stress disorder (创伤后应激阻碍).
Imagine being able to study in a classroom with students from all over the world
or visiting your doctor just by using VR goggles. That’s where Mark Zuckerberg, creator of Facebook, sees VR going. So, how would you use virtual reality in your
every day life?

A. They can help people protect their eyes.
B. They can give people a 360° environment to see.
C. They can record the user’s head movements.

2. If VR is used in movies, which of the following will come true?
A. Users can direct the movies in a new way.
B. Users will be a part of the
movie.
C. Users can ’t watch the movies anymore.
D. 3-D and IMAX films will
disappear.
3.What does Mark Zuckerberg think about the future of VR?
A. It may help students from all over the world study together.
B. There will be no hospitals anymore.
C. Nothing in our daily life will be the same.
D. It may bring many new illnesses.
4. What ’s the story mainly about?
A. Virtual reality’s uses in medical areas.
B. How people will watch
movies in the future.
C. The use of VR goggles in our lives.
D. What virtual reality technology
will bring us.
