例如,一些读物在页面上会有简单的问答,像“Can you find the dog?”

随着阅读级别的提升,会出现更复杂的句式,像含有从句的句子“He is the boy who likes reading books.”

410-600Passage 1Can the Internet Be Bad for You?Computers are good tools. The Internet is also good. But some people spend too much time online. They can't stop. Doctors say this is a new sickness. They call this sickness Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD).People with IAD are online a lot. They spend hours instant messaging their friends or playing online games. Many people with IAD spend more time on the Internet than with family or friends. Some people with IAD even quit their jobs.Do you have IAD? Think about these questions: How many hours a day are you online? Is it a lot or a little? When you are not online, are you thinking about playing a computer game or check your message? When you are online, do you forget the time? Do you get angry when you can't play a game?If you have IAD, what can you do? Dr. Ivan Goldberg and Dr. Kimberly S. Young have some ideas. First, ask yourself "Why am I online a lot?" Then try to take a break. For example, use the computer or play games twice a week, not every day. In this way, you can have a good social life with other friends.Passage 2FireAfter people learnt how to make fire, they learnt how to use it. They used it to keep warm and keep away animals. They also learnt how to cook food with it. Fire served people well and is still serving them well. But sometimes a building catches fire. Sometimes a building is destroyed and people lose their homes. Sometimes people even lose their lives. Fire is not the servant for them. It has become the master! Why do fires begin? What starts them? There are many causes of fire. Perhaps an old electric heater is knocked over. Sometimes a heater is placed too near some clothes. Young children are sometimes allowed to play with matches by their parents. Can you think of any other causes of fire? When a fire begins, we must telephone the firemen. Do you know how to do this? Go to the nearest telephone and dial the number 119. The firemen will arrive quickly. If some people are hurt, they must be taken to hospital at once in ambulances.Passage 3For Funny InventionsTime Temp GlassesAre you a person who wants to know the time and temperature during the day? You might like Time Temp Glasses. These special glasses show the time above your right eye and the temperature above your left eye. It is surely easier than wearing a wristwatch, and you never have to guess the temperature.Alarm ForkDo you eat too quickly? Do you eat too much? How can the Alarm Fork help you? Aren't you curious? Well, this special fork has two lights: one green and one red. When the green light is on, it's OK to take a bite of food. The fork "knows" when you take a bite, and soon the red light goes on. Wait for the green light before you take another bite.Smell ThisHow do you know if your breath smells nice, or if it smells bad? It's difficult to know, because it's very hard to smell the air that comes out of your own mouth. Smell This is useful for this situation. Smell This covers your nose and your mouth, so it is easy to smell the air that comes out of your mouth. Does your breath smell nice, or do you need a piece of gum?Banana SuitcaseHas this ever happened to you? You put a banana in your bag lunch in the morning, and when you open the bag at noon, the banana looks like someone drove a car over it. If you put your banana in the Banana suitcase, this will never happen. It keeps a banana safe, delicious, and looking like a banana!Passage 4Percy Adams lived in a great neighborhood. He had many friends there. Percy woke up one morning and took a long stretch. He had a good night and was very rested. First, he walked in the kitchen and ate a good breakfast. He waited at the door for someone to open it and let him out. He had some things to do. Percy walked outside and looked around. Everything seemed fine. Then, he went and checked on his friend, Al, the dog. Al was still sleeping and did not want to go with Percy. Percy walked across the yard and visited the Mother Bird and her babies. They were fine and were eating some worms for breakfast. They did not even look at Percy. They were busy. Percy walked across the street and visited his friend, Bubba. Bubba was outside stretched out in the sun. Bubba was glad to see Percy. They were great friends. Bubba said hello to Percy with a great big MEOW. Percy gave a MEOW right back. Percy and Bubba played and played. They visited their other friends in the neighborhood. It was time to gohome. They were tired and it was a good time to have a rest.Passage 5Taken for a RideI love travelling in the country, but I don't like losing my way.I went on an excursion recently, but my trip took me longer than I expected.'I'm going to Woodford Green, ' I said to the conductor as I got on the bus 'but I don't know where it is.''I'll tell you where to get off.' answered the conductor.I sat in the front of the bus to get a good view of the countryside. After some time, the bus stopped. Looking round, I realized with a shock that I was the only passenger left on the bus.'You'll have to get off here, ' the conductor said. 'This is as far as we go.''Is this Woodford Green? ' I asked.'Oh dear, ' said the conductor suddenly. 'I forgot to put you off.''It doesn't matter. ' I said. 'I'll get off here.''We're going back now, ' said the conductor.'Well, in that case, I prefer to stay on the bus,' I answered.Passage 6The Use of the InternetToday almost everyone knows computers and the Internet. If I ask you "What is the most important in your life?" Maybe you will say "Computers and the Internet".The first computer was made in 1946. It was very big but it worked slowly. Today computers are getting smaller and smaller. But they work faster and faster. What can computers do? A writer has said, "People can‘t live without computers today. "The Internet came a little later than computers. It is about twenty-five years late than computers. But now it can be found almost everywhere. We can use it to read books, write letters, do shopping, play computer games and make friends. Many students like the Internet very much. They often surf the Internet as soon as they are free. They make friends on the Internet and maybe they have never seen these friends. They don’t know their real names, ages, and eve n sex. They are so interested in making the "unreal friends" that they can’t put their hearts into study. Many of them can’t catch up with others on many subjects because of that.We can use computers and the Internet to learn more about the world. But at the same time, we should remember that not all things can be done by computers and the Internet. 1. The Internet cannot be used for thinking. 610-800Passage 7Be Careful with Energy DrinksThe weather is getting hotter. You are thirsty playing basketball or riding home from school.A cold drink may be just the thing. But be careful what you are drinking. Something that looks cool may not be good for your health. There are plenty of "energy drinks" on the market. Most of them have beautiful colors and cool names. The lists on them tell you they are helpful to your health. Sounds great! But after a careful check you may find that most energy drinks have lots of caffeine in them. These drinks are especially aimed at young people, students, busy people and sports players. Makers sometimes say their drinks make you better at sports and can keep you awake. But be careful not to drink too much.Caffeine makes your heart beat fast. Because of this, the International Olympic Committee has limited its use. Caffeine in most energy drinks is at least as strong as that in a cup of coffee or tea. Possible health dangers have something to do with energy drinks. Just one box of energy drink can make you nervous, have difficulty sleeping and can even cause heart problems. Scientists say that teenagers should be discouraged from taking drinks with a lot of caffeine in them.Passage 8EconomyI want to talk about the economy. It’s not "the economy" we hear about endlessly in the news each day and in politicians' speeches. I want to talk about the real economy, the one we live in day by day. Most people aren't particularly interested in "the economy". "Share prices are flying high;interest rates are soaring; the Dow Jones Index closed sixty-three points down on 8472.35." We hear this and subconsciously switch off.Notice that "the economy" is not the same as the economy. "The economy" is what men in suits play with to make vast personal wealth. The economy is where the rest of us live on a daily basis, earning our living, paying our taxes, and purchasing the necessities of life.We are supposed to be benefiting from all the advantages of a well-off society. So why do we feel tired and stressed? We have no time for anything other than work, which is ridiculous given the number of labor-saving devices in our lives. Our towns become more and more crowded. We poison our air and seas, and our food is full of chemicals. There's something wrong here. If times were truly good, then you may think we'd all feel optimistic about the future. Yet the majority of us are deeply worried. More than 90 percent of us think we are too concerned about ourselves and not concerned enough about future generations. The term "economic expansion" suggests something desirable, but expansion simply means spending more money. More spending doesn't mean that life is getting better. We all know it often means the opposite - greed, crime, poverty, and pollution. More spending merely feeds our whole economic system, which is based on production and consumption. Unless money keeps circulating, the economy breaks down. If we don't keep consuming, the whole system goes into stalemate. How do we break the cycle and make some changes? We need to become far more aware of the results of our actions. We buy clothes that are made in sweat shops by virtual slaves in poor parts of the world. We create mountains of waste. We demand cheap food, mindless of the fact that it totally lacks taste and is produced using chemicals that poison the land. The consumption culture makes us unaware of the effect of our own behavior. Our main problem is not that we don't know what to do about it. It is gathering the desire to do it.Passage 9Flying foxThe flying fox is not a fox at all. It is an extra large bat that has got a fox’s head, and that feeds on fruit instead of insects. Like all bats, flying foxes hang themselves by their toes when at rest, and travel in great crowds when out flying. A group will live in one spot for years. Sometimes several hundred of them occupy a single tree. As they return to the tree toward sunrise, they quarrel among themselves and fight for the best places until long after daylight.Flying foxes have babies once a year, giving birth to only one at a time. At first the mother has to carry the baby on her breast wherever she goes. Later she leaves it hanging up, and brings back food for it to eat. Sometimes a baby bat falls down to the ground and squeaks for help. Then the older ones swoop down and try to pick it up. If they fail to do so, it will die.Often hundreds of dead baby bats can be found lying on the ground at the foot of a tree.Passage 10Last fall a beaver moved into the small stream beside our house. He began taking down small trees right away. and in a couple of weeks our stream turned into a pond. Every day, he added more to his dam and to his house. We're sure you've all heard the saying, "as busy as a beaver". Now, we understand this saying as we saw the work that this beaver did over a very short period of time.We thought that would be the last of the beaver's busy activity as winter came. To our amazement, however, he started chewing on a very large tree. The tree was over 18 meters tall and around 1.5 meters in diameter. We were amazed at the challenge this beaver was trying. All winter, he chewed and chewed. He had setbacks as we faced major winter storms and ice-cold weather. But sure enough, when the weather allowed, he would come back and chew a bit more. The beaver's first goal was to survive—to build home for the winter. Working every day with that goal in mind, he successfully achieved that goal. But the large tree he started chewing on last fall was a future goal一he wanted the large tree to provide new food and branches for the coming spring. Even with the setbacks he faced over the winter, he never gave up until he reached it.Our beaver's experience reminds us that we need to set goals for tomorrow. Sometimes just surviving seems to take up all of our time. But, if you do just a little bit when time allows and stick to your future goal, you will achieve it. Keep chewing like the beaver, and you will achieve your goal in the end.Passage 11Painting PicturesPeople have been painting pictures for at least 30,000 years. The earliest pictures were painted by people who hunted animals. They used to paint pictures of the animals they wanted to catch and kill. Pictures of this kind have been found on the walls of caves in France and Spain. No one knows why they were painted there. Perhaps the painters thought that their pictures would help them to catch these animals. Or perhaps human beings have always wanted to tell stories according to pictures.About 5,000 years ago the Egyptians and other people in the Near East began to use pictures as a kind of writing. They drew simple pictures or signs to represent things and ideas, and also to represent the sounds of their language. The signs these people used became a kind of alphabet. The Egyptians used to record information and to tell stories by putting picture-writing and pictures together. When an important person died, scenes and stories from his life were painted and carved on the walls of the place where he was buried. Some of these pictures are like modem comic-strip stories. It has been said that Egypt is the home of the comic-strip. But, for the Egyptians, pictures still had magic power. So they did not try to make their way of writing simple. The ordinary people could not understand it.By the year 1,000 BC, people who lived in the area around the Mediterranean Sea had developed a simpler system of writing. The signs they used were very easy to write, and there were fewer of them than in the Egyptian system. This was because each sign, or letter, represented only one sound in their language. The Greeks developed this system and formed the letters of the Greek alphabet. The Romans copied the idea, and the Roman alphabet is now used all over the world. These days we can write down a story, or record information, without using pictures. But we still need pictures of all kinds: drawings, photographs, signs and diagrams. We find them everywhere: in books and newspapers, in the streets, and on the walls of the places where we live and work. Pictures help us to understand and remember things more easily, and they can make a story much more interesting.Passage 12Sharing FeelingsIt’s good to share your feelings with others. No matter whether your feelings are good or not, it can also help you to get closer to people who you care about and who care about you.But how do we share feelings? First, you should focus on your feelings. You can’t tell your friends what’s inside your backpack if you don’t know what’s in it yourself. Feelings are the same way. Before you share them with someone, you should know what feelings you have. You can make a list of feelings in your head or by writing it out on a piece of paper or even by drawing pictures. What bothers you? Does it make you sad or angry? Do you feel this emotion only once or many times? When you do this, it might help you to remember something that happened and think about how it makes you feel. Then you can say "I feel sad that my friend won’t play with me." or "I feel angry with my classmates..."Do you know why you should talk about your feelings? If you always keep your feelings inside, especially sadness, nervousness or anxiety, it can even make you feel sick. But if you talk with someone who cares about you, like your mom and dad, you’ll feel much better. Your parents want to know what’s happening in your life because they love you. But if you don’t want to talk with them, please talk with your friends. They will help you.Passage 13TigerOne day last November, Tom Baker stopped out of his house into the morning light and headed across the rice fields toward the bank of the Rapti River. Tom, a 32-year-old school teacher in the farming village of Madanpur, was going for his morning bath.As he approached the river, the head of a tiger suddenly appeared over the edge of the river bank. Before he could turn to run, the tiger was upon him. It jumped on his shoulder and threw him to the ground, its huge jaws attacked his head in a killing bite.Peter Smith was also on his way to the river and saw the attack. He screamed. The tiger lifted its head and roared at him. Peter ran. From the window of his house John Brown heard the tiger roar and ran out to see it attacking a man. He screamed, too, and all the villagers ran out shouting as the tiger dropped its victim and ran off. When the villagers reached the river bank, Tom was already dead. For the villagers, the horror of the incident intensified by the tales of man-eating tigers that has once run around in the countryside, killing hundreds.Passage 14You want to know the secret to success? Here it is:⚫Believe in yourself so much, that no one else can tell you otherwise.⚫Also doubt yourself so much, that you feel like no matter how hard you work nothing could ever get you to your goal.⚫Work so hard, that your friends think you're crazy.⚫Be ridiculed, be shunned, be ignored, be told no. Get shut down so many times that you become immune to it. That it drives you, and gives you energy.⚫Set boundaries for yourself. IE don't spend your money going to every show.⚫Also, go get inspired. Take yourself out of your work cycle, remind yourself why you are working yourself to the bone.⚫Give EVERYTHING to your craft. If there's someone in your life or something you do that prevents you from working 25 hours a day, get rid of it.⚫Ingrain the idea in your mind that NOTHING will get you where you want to be other than hard work.⚫Keep working so hard, that eventually what you are doing isn't work. It's who you are.And now people are taking notice. Your parents believe in you; your friends support you. ⚫Keep doubting yourself. Always know that there's something else better out there that you have to keep working harder than you did yesterday to achieve.⚫Enjoy yourself. Be happy. Be grateful, be humble.⚫Keep working your ass off so you can make every single day of your life as good as thisone, and better than the day before it. 810-1000Passage 1520 Amazing Facts About Dreams that You Might Not Know AboutDreams. Mysterious, bewildering, eye-opening and sometimes a nightmarish living hell: dreams are all that and much more. Here are 20 amazing facts about dreams that you might have never heard about.Fact 1: You can’t read while dreaming, or tell the timeIf you are unsure whether you are dreaming or not, try reading something. The vast majority of people are incapable of reading in their dreams. The same goes for clocks: each time you look at a clock it will tell a different time and the hands on the clock won’t appear to be moving as reported by lucid dreamers.Fact 2: Lucid dreamingThere is a whole subculture of people practicing what is called lucid or conscious dreaming. Using various techniques, these people have supposedly learned to assume control of their dreams and do amazing things like flying, passing through walls, and traveling to different dimensions or even back in time.Fact 3: Inventions inspired by dreamsDreams are responsible for many of the greatest inventions of mankind. A few examples include:* The idea for Google -Larry Page* Alternating current generator -Tesla* DNA’s double helix spiral form -James Watson* The sewing machine -Elias Howe* Periodic table -Dimitri Mendeleyev* …and many, many more.Fact 4: Premonition dreamsThere are some astounding cases where people actually dreamt about things which happened to them later, in the exact same ways they dreamed about. You could say they got a glimpse of the future, or it might have just been coincidence. The fact remains that this is some seriously interesting and bizarre phenomena. Some of the most famous premonition dreams include:* Abraham Lincoln dreamt of His Assassination* Many of the victims of 9/11 had dreams warning them about the catastrophe* Mark Twains dream of his brothers demise* 19 verified precognitive dreams about the Titanic catastropheFact 5: Sleep paralysisHell is real and it is called sleep paralysis. It’s the stuff of true nightmares. I’ve been a sleep paralysis sufferer as a kid and I can attest to how truly horrible it is. Two characteristics of sleep paralysis are the inability to move (hence paralysis) and a sense of an extremely evil presence in the room with you. I t doesn’t feel like a dream, but 100% real. Studies show that during an attack, sleep paralysis sufferers show an overwhelming amygdala activity. The amygdala is responsible for the “fight or flight” instinct and the emotions of fear, terror and anxiety. Enough said!Fact 6: REM sleep disorderIn the state of REM (rapid-eye-movement) stage of your sleep your body is normally paralyzed. In rare cases, however, people act out their dreams. These have resulted in broken arms, legs, broken furniture, and in at least one reported case, a house burnt down.Fact 7: Sexual dreamsThe very scientifically-named “nocturnal penile tumescence” is a very well documented phenomena. In laymen’s term it simply means that you get a stiffy while you sleep. Actually, studies indicate that men get up to 20 erections per dream.Fact 8: Unbelievable SleepwalkersSleepwalking is a very rare and potentially dangerous sleep disorder. It is an extreme form of REM sleep disorder, and these people don’t just act out their dreams, but go on real adventures at night.Lee Hadwin is a nurse by profession, but in his dreams he is an artist. Literally. He “sleepdraws” gorgeous portraits, of which he has no recollection afterwards. Strange sleepwalking “adventures” include:* A woman having sex with strangers while sleepwalking* A man who drove 22 miles and killed his cousin while sleepwalking (how is this even possible?)* A sleepwalker who walked out of the window from the third floor, and barely survivedFact 9: Dream drugThere are actually people who like dreaming and dreams so much that they never want to wake up. They want to continue on dreaming even during the day, so they take an illegal and extremely potent hallucinogenic drug called Dimethyltryptamine. It is actually only an isolated and synthetic form of the chemical our brains produce naturally during dreaming.Fact 10 Dream-catcherThe dream-catcher is one of the most well-known Native American symbols. It is a loose web or webs woven around a hoop and decorated with sacred objects meant to protect against nightmares.Fact 11: Increased brain activityYou would associate sleeping with peace and quiet, but actually our brains are more active during sleep than during the day.Fact 12: Creativity and dreamsAs we mentioned before, dreams are responsible for inventions, great artworks and are generally just incredibly interesting. They are also “recharging” our creativity. In rare cases of REM disorder, people actually don’t dream at all. These people suffer from significantly decreased creativity and perform badly at tasks requiring creative problem solving.Fact 13: Pets dream tooOur animal companions dream as well. Watch a dog or a cat sleep and you can see that they are moving their paws and making noises like they were chasing something. Go get ‘em Buddy!Fact 14: You always dream—you just don’t remember itMany people claim that they don’t dream at all, but that’s not true: we all dream, but up to 60% of people don’t remember their dreams at all.Fact 15: Blind people dream tooBlind people who were not born blind see images in their dreams but people who were born blind don’t see anything at all. They still dream, and their dreams are just as intense and interesting, but they involve the other senses beside sight.Fact 16: In our dreams we only see faces that we already knowIt is proven that in dreams we can only see faces that we have seen in real life before. So beware: that scary-looking old lady next to you on the bus might as well be in your next nightmare.Fact 17: Dreams tend to be negativeSurprisingly, dreams are more often negative than positive. The three most widely reported emotions felt during dreaming are anger, sadness and fear.Fact 18: Multiple dreams per nightYou can have up to seven different dreams per night depending on how many REM cycles you have. We only dream during the REM period of sleep, and the average person dreams one to two hours every night.Fact 19: Gender differencesInterestingly, 70% of all the characters in a man’s dream are other men, but women’s dream contains an equal amount of women and men. Also, men’s dreams contain a lot more aggression. Both women and men dream about sexual themes equally often.Fact 20: Not everyone dreams in colorAs much as 12% of people only dream in black and white.Passage 1650 years ago: The sound of the fox honkFoxes, unlike most creatures, are noisiest in midwinter. Here they usually begin calling about a week before Christmas and go on till early February. Their normal cry is often described as a bark. But foxes are not dogs and their call sounds to me more like a honking, a strangely vibrant, rather eerie owk-owk-owk-owk. This is repeated about every half-minute for several minutes at a time, it is a far-travelling call; so when you hear it the fox may be much farther off than you suppose. But foxes will cry close to houses. One night a fox called for ten minutes just outside our garden, a loud, wild, exciting sound. We mostly hear our foxes in the early part of the evening. But they must call on and off all night, for if I wake, I occasionally hear one. On morning this week there was a fox in full voice in broad daylight but that does not happen very often. So the mating season passes. And soon, come wind, come weather, the young foxes will be born safe and warm in their burrows. But not safe for long, many of them, when the spade and terrier brigade arrives. Still, not all will be discovered, for though thousands will be killed plenty will survive to send their lovely cries through the nights of next midwinter. So let us rejoice. For the fox is, as Hudson once said, “good to meet in any green place.”Passage 17Cricket—how I detested this game when I was young! My family would spend hours and hours watching it on television while I angrily waited for it to end. Every game seemed the same. Yes, one team won and the other one lost, but it was always the same game—some men pitching a ball, some running back and forth. Then something happened. I became old enough to start playing cricket myself with the other kids in my neighborhood. We found a place to play wherever we could put up a wicket. We played on the street, in the backyard—even on the tops of buildings, believe it or not!I can recall so clearly the sounds of the ball hitting the bat and the quick running feet. I can still feel the sun on my face as I played and the bruises and scratches from falling down. I can still see the blue sky fading to darkness behind the buildings as our games continued into the night. It became my favorite thing in the world. Now I watch it not with anger, but with fond memories of the endless days and nights spent playing the game.Passage 18Just like a band or gang of superheroes needs members who have different talents and powers, a circle of friends should have exactly the same thing. It's important to have diversity and to be able to look for support from a variety of sources. They also help us to keep broader。

1)几乎在每个儿科医生诊所里,都有一个小书架,上面有各个阅读层面的儿童书籍,通常情况下你会看见等候看病的孩子们要么自己在静静的读书,要么是在妈妈听念书,很少有追逐打架大声笑闹的;
2)幼儿园里,也有小书架,每天早晨老师会为早到的孩子们读书,或是让孩子们自己翻阅,就是在孩子们排队上厕所时,老师也通常会拿起书给等待的孩子们读;

宝儿现在的学校每天早晨还有家长志愿给孩子们念15分钟的书,因为宝儿现在才是学前班,他们的书全是绘本,画是主要的,文字的内容很少,有些书甚至连贝贝这样的“文盲”都可以看图说话;

(The Lexile Framework® for Reading)和发展性阅读评估Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA)。
