– Charles Bally (4 February 1865, Geneva – 10 April
1947) was a French linguist from the Geneva School. Bally is an expert in French lexicon and stylistics. His greatest contribution is his new idea about stylistics. – 他认为一般的语言风格和个别作家的风格是两回 事,前者出于常人说话时的需要,后者才是作家对语 言的美学加工。他认为风格学应该研究感情在言 语中的表达和言语对感情的作用。

(1) Style is an integral part of meaning. Without the sense of style we cannot arrive at a better understanding of an utterance;
