九年级英语培优能力提升练习卷一

九年级英语培优能力提升练习卷一

九年级英语培优能力提升练习卷一一.阅读理解AFOR many years, people around the world were crazy about a boywith blond (金色的) hair. And perhaps these times have returned,as a new movie version (版本) of French writer Antoine deSaint-Exupery’s classic The Little Prince has been released in manycountries. It will come out in China on Oct 16.Now we have an opportunity to look again at what has made thisboy so popular with so many people of all ages, all over the world, since the novel’s first publication (出版) in 1943. A pilot crashes (坠毁) his plane in the desert. In this terriblesituation he meets the Little Prince, who is a strange being from anasteroid (小行星). We learn that the Prince has been on a long journey. He left his home after an unhappy love affair (爱情). Thi s love affair wasn’t with another of the Prince’s kind, but with a beautiful rose. Looking for a way to mend his broken heart, he toured planets looking for wisdom. He met many different beings, but all were foolish and disappointed the Prince. One was a king who hated other people and lived on a planet with no other people on it. Another was a businessman who, because he could count the stars, thought that he owned them. He didn’t understand that counting, whether you count stars or money, isn’t the point of life.Nothing that these men had to say to the Prince could end the sadness caused by his unhappy love affair. Now he is on Earth, still in search of answers. In truth, this is where the story ends for the Prince. He dies in the desert. But because of his great warmth, he tells the pilot a story so that the pilot will not feel hopeless. The Prince tells him that although his body is dying, his soul (灵魂) will return to his asteroid. The pilot is really us. A human like us, he is reminded of the kind of human failings that make the world such an unhappy place by the disappointing people that the Prince met.But although the story is unhappy in this respect (方面), the generous, self-sacrificing (自我牺牲的) Prince himself sets an example for us.We all know that a great, popular book doesn’t have to be a happy one. Generally, the books that win the hearts of readers are neither simply happy nor simply sad. The best word for this story is perhaps “bittersweet (苦乐参半的)”. But have you thought about howdifficult it is to use in space?Internet access (接入) was first given to astronauts byNASA five years ago, as they said it would helpimprove their quality of life in space and make them feel less lonely. But connection speeds from theInternational Space Station are “wo rse than dial-up (拨号上网)”, the astronaut Scott Kelly said on Twitter, a social networking service. This is because the Internet connection in space comes from a network of satellites (卫星) – the same satellites that NASA engineers on the ground use to communicate with astronauts on the International Space Station, according to The Atlantic. There is a lot of technology on the International Space Station, of course. “They have computers, including one in their personal sleeping area, which they can use for e-mail, social media, and news,” David Steitz, a spokesman for NASA, told The Atlantic. “They also have tablets (平板电脑) they can use for various tasks, but also video calls to family and friends on the ground.” So what makes the connection so slow compared with broadband (宽带) Internet speeds on the ground? Well, think about the distance that data has to travel. When an astronaut clicks on awebsite in space, that request first travels to a network of satellites far away from the station. This network is 22,000 miles (35,405 km) away from Earth, further away than the station itself. The satellites then send the signal (信号) down to a receiver on the ground below, and it deals with the request before returning its reply along the same path. This means that, even though theconnection on the ground is fast, the signal is slow to go from space to Earth so the Internet runs slowly. However, in the future the Internet is likely to improve for astronauts as NASA changes to laser (激光) – based systems. Already, engineers have sent a high-definition (高清的) video from the International Space Station to the ground on a laser beam (光束). It’s a “much faster” way to send data, NASA said, and one that shows the possibilities for the “future of communications to and from space”.Don ’t worry if you want to be an astronaut, then – by the time you get into space the Internet might be faster!1. What can astronauts on the International Space Station do using the Internet?a. read newsb. make video callsc. use social mediad. watch movies online。

We tossed our flag so that it would turn one and a half times in the air and we had to catch the pole (旗杆) straight up and down with the flag at the top. After an hour I was the only one who couldn't do it.Our teacher, Angie, asked me to keep practicing while everyone else got to relax.I felt ashamed (羞愧)as my teammates watched me fail so many times. There I was allowed to cry out my frustration (沮丧). Then Angie came in and said, “You are trying to be too perfect. ” She told me never to give up. She left me alone and I realized Angie was right—by giving up, I was also giving up on the team and myself.I kept practicing and by the next practice I had mastered the toss.I realized that the color guard could teach me lessons about life. The bad news is that the ways may do you little good. But the good news is that there are better ways to build your English vocabulary.★Learn a new English word every dayIf you're not sure where to start, try making cards of the most commonly used words. Another way is reading. If you like reading about travel, pets or food, read about these topics in English. Read a few articles each morning, and circle new words. If you like watching movies, pick one and start watching. If you're afraid you won't understand everything, you can always watch them with subtitles. Once you're confident in your English listening skills, try watching movies without subtitles.★Don't forget to record new words in a vocabulary notebookWhenever you come across a new word, write it down. Keep the notebook and a pen at hand. Then, you'll have something to review while traveling or taking a break. ★The vocabulary learning systemAnother thing to do is develop an organized but easy way of collecting and learning new words. For example, a card system should include the following information:*Words*English meaning of the words*Phrases or sentences*Related words*Words of similar meanings and words of opposite meanings*Chinese meaning on the back of the card★__▲__People remember facts better if they are given in logical(符合逻辑的) groups. Creating lists of words related to common themes—such as friendship, family, wealth, careers, science—will be much easier for learning and remembering words than collecting words according to their first letters.9. In Paragraph 1, the writer introduces the topic by ____.A. describing the common scenes of students' ways of learningB. listing the problems that students have when learningC. presenting a few questions that students want to askD. telling a funny story of a language learning experience10. The underlined word “subtitles” means____.A. names of books, magazines, or other published worksB. words that translate what is said in foreign films and appear at the bottom ofthe screenC. the second titles which are often longer and explain moreD. names that describe people's social positions or jobs11. Which of the following sentences is the most suitable one to be put in the__▲__?A. Understand and remember facts betterB. Collect words according to their themes or subjectsC. Remember a list of unrelated wordsD. Divide words according to their first letters12. In which order is the passage written?A. Time order.B. Space order.C. From the specific(具体) to the general(总体).D. From the general to the specific.DA tree has roots. People have roots too. If you get to the root of a problem, you will solve it. It's the same thing with words. Dig deeply into a big, unknown word and you will understand where it came from.As readers, especially those reading in a second language, we need to find information as if we were skilled detectives (侦探). When meeting a new and difficult word, we should judge the situation first. Then connect all the things we know together and see if it helps us to understand what it means. As you know, prefixes (前缀) and suffixes (后缀) can be added to the beginning or end of words to change the meaning. Know them, and you will have the word building ability. But root words are the key. Take time to learn a few of these and put them in your memory, and you will become a great word detective.Let's look at one common root word used in English. “Alter” from Latin means “other”. When you meet this root word, you know that the bigger word has something to do with “other”. Examine the word “alternate”. Can you find the Latin root in it?Learn as many root words as possible in the language you are studying. Then use your “rooting for words” skills. Like any new skill, practice and hard work always pay off.13. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to?A. The situation.B. The crime scene(犯罪现场).C. A new and difficult word.D. Everything that is known.14. If Jim and Lily often go to the movies, which one below is “alternating paying”?A. They each pay half.B. Jim pays every time.C. They take turns paying.D. Their parents pay for them.15. How does the author explain his ideas about root words?A. By giving a fact.B. By taking an example.C. By telling a story.D. By having a discussion.16. Which of the following shows the structure (结构) of the passage?(①=Paragraph 1,②=Paragraph 2,…)第二节阅读短文,从方框内所给的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,其中有一个多余的选项。

【英语】中考英语阅读理解培优题1一、初三英语阅读理解(含答案详细解析)1.阅读理解Great changes have taken place in family life because of science and industry(工业). In the past, when most Americans lived on farms, the typical family had many children. In a farm family, parents and their children often lived with grandparents. Usually, uncles and aunts lived nearby. But when industry became more important than agriculture in American life, families became smaller because industry requires workers who are ready and able to move off the land and move again whenever necessary. And large families cannot move from place to place as smaller families. So, at present people tend to have smaller families. In the future, because of industrialization, a typical family will be required to move even more often than now, so families will be even smaller. The typical family may remain childless and consist only of a man and a woman. A small number of families may take raising children as their chief work. At the same time they may also raise other people's children, leaving those families free to move from job to job.(1)Which of the following topics is discussed in the passage?A. Though we are young, we can still do something to help. In fact, even the simplest everyday activities can make a real difference to the environment. Here are some ideas for you to live a green life.Remember these three words: reduce, reuse and recycle.Reduce means “use less〞. Don't waste things. This saves money and reduces pollution and waste going into the environment. Before we buy something new, think if it is really necessary or maybe the old one will be just as good! When we do buy things, choose local products if possible, and try not to buy too many things from abroad.Reuse means “use again〞. Use things for as long as possible. When we buy things, make sure that they last a long time. We should take care of them so that they will last, and we should repair them if we can instead of throwing them away and buying new ones. Don't use a paper cup or a paper bag. It’s better to use a china cup and a lunch box because you can use them again.Recycle means “change things into something else〞. Although it takes energy to change something into something else, it’s better than throwing things away or burning them. Find out what can be recycled in your neighbourhood and take part in recycling programmes. We should also buy products made from recycled materials, such as recycled paper, to help save trees.Title: 1 to Live a Green Life四、细心用一用〔15%〕1.
