For a fever, I would receive a red pill, which I now know is a type of antibiotic (抗生素).Another thing I know now is that the criminal behind my cold is a virus. The drugs I used only relieved the symptoms. When I went to a German hospital intending to get some medicine to treat my cold, I got nothing more than a pat on my shoulder and words from the doctor, saying that I should get some really good rest. The first time this happened, I was shocked. I wondered how I could put up with my sickness without the help of medicine. But the longer I stayed in Germany, the better I knew how to self-medicate as other Germans do.I learned to take vitamin C to build up my resistance. But what I like themost is drinking “Erkaltungstee”. For German people, Erkaltungstee is what their grandmother gives them when they catch a cold. It’s a tea bag mainly made of lime flower and orange rind. Another popular cold remedy in Germany is chicken soup. During my first winter in Germany, I got a really bad cold. My neighbor brought me a bowl of chicken soup to make me feel better. It contained a lot of ginger, onion, garlic, carrots and celery. Germans believe these ingredients are perfect for helping your body recover.4. How did the author feel after seeing the German doctor?A. Relieved.B. Stressed.C. Satisfied.D. Surprised.5. According to the author, what effect do antibiotics have on his cold?A. They make him feel better.B. They prevent the disease.C. They kill the virus in him.D. They cure his cold.6. What do Germans think of “Erkaltungstee”?A. It can replace any cold remedy.B. It can build up one’s resistance.C. It’s a good way to self-medicate.D. It’s better than chicken soup.7. What can we infer from the text?A. Germans tend not to use antibiotics to treat cold.B. The author often catches a cold in Taiwan.C. The author seldom drinks chicken soup.D. German doctors are cold to patients.CCharity Cycling UK has recently launched a campaign to raise awareness of dooring after discovering that many people don’t know what it is and those that do seem to think it’s a joke. Dooring happens when a driver or passenger opens the door into another road user - typically a cyclist - without looking for other road users.Cycling UK’s chief executive Paul Tuohy told Gloucestershire Live, “Some people seem to see car dooring as a bit of a joke, but it’s not and can have serious consequences. Cycling UK wants to see great awareness made about the dangers of opening your car door, and people to be encouraged to look before they open.”The charity says 2,009 of the 3,000 injuries were sustained(遭受) by cyclists, resulting in five deaths but says this might not be the full extent of the dangers.Cycling UK says not all car dooring incidents will be attended by police, so the charity has written to transport minister Jesse Norman calling for apublic awareness campaign urging all drivers to look before opening vehicle doors. One of the ways that the charity suggests could prevent injuries through dooring is the “Dutch Reach”, where people leaving a vehicle reach over and use the non-door side hand to open the door.Cycling UK also suggests serious laws and advice on safer road positioning for people who cycle.Mr Tuohy said, “In the Netherlands they are known for practising a method, known sometimes as the ‘Dutch Reach’, which we think could be succes sfully encouraged in the UK.”“Cycling UK has written to the Department for Transport asking them to look into this, and stress the dangers of ‘car dooring’ through a public awareness THINK style campaign.”If you’re really concerned about opening a door i nto the path of a cyclist coming behind you, consider using what’s known as the “Dutch Reach” to open the door. That will naturally turn you in your seat and give you a much better view of what’s coming up alongside the car.8. Why does the author mention the figures in Paragraph 3?A. To arouse wide public concern.B. To describe the terrible accident.C. To show the dangers of car dooring.D. To stress the importance of traffic safety.9. While doing the Dutch Reach, you should ______.A. stand up from your seatB. open the car door politelyC. use inside hand to open the car doorD. use outside hand to open the car door10. What can be learned from the text?A. Many people are ignorant of car dooring.B. The Dutch Reach is well received in England.C. Dooring incidents are all attended by the police.D. Drivers are to blame for door incidents.11. What’s the author’s attitude towards car dooring?A. EnthusiasticB. CuriousC. NegativeD. ConcernedDI fondly remember road trips as a child, sitting in the sunny backseat of my mom's car, daydreaming about other worlds and fantastic adventures. As I’ve grown older, my daydreams have become increasingly occupied less with fantasy but more with the reality of my past and future. Nearly everyone daydreams about their future and reflects nostalgically (念旧地) ornegatively on moments of the past. These moments can provide inspiration, but if you spend too much time daydreaming in this fashion, you may be reducing your success in the present. If you've ever planned a vacation, you're familiar with the impatient days tapping at your desk, dreaming of the lazy, relaxing days to come. Unfortunately, sometimes you end up comparing the real vacation to your imagined one, and it doesn't live up to the standard. Reflecting nostalgically on the past can also prevent present enjoyment. It is equally fun to reflect on past achievements or fun events, but it's possible to be so consumed with happy memories that you miss opportunities to create more. We've all made mistakes that we’re ashamed of; reflecting on them is an important step in correcting those mistakes and becoming a better person. But dwelling (细想)too long on your past can also be negative. If you dwell too long on a past mistake, you can begin to equate(使等同)yourself with your past and feel farther away from the person you want to be. Train your brain to think quickly about the past and future, and take only the information and inspiration that you need in order to be the best person you can without resting on your glory moments or your mistakes. If your identity is not dependent on the past or future, every experience is new and every day is a blank page for you to write. A fun mental exercise isto always tell yoursel f that you’re experiencing things for the first time. So take advantage of each moment you’re given.12.What does the author think of daydreaming?A .It's the favorite for many kids.B. It can lead to fantastic adventures.C. It's the major source of inspiration.D. It has both strengths and weaknesses.13.What can we learn from Paragraph 2?A. Past achievements strongly influence us.B. It's important to be patient with our present life.C. Daydreaming may make the present disappointing.D. Reflecting nostalgically on the past brings us no pleasure.14.What should we avoid doing according to Paragraph 3?A. Reflecting on the past.B. Resting on our past experiences.C. Thinking about our past mistakes.D. Feeling ashamed of our past mistakes.15.What's the author's purpose in writing the text?A. To tell about her childhood.B. To tell how to let go the past.C. To suggest we focus on the present.D. To encourage us to learn from mistakes.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

AI’m part of the Roots & Shoots program founded by Dr. Jane Goodall. The program is intended to make and promote positive changes in the world. As Dr. Goodall says, “What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”In Bulgaria, where I live, homeless dogs are everywhere. Many people here turn a blind eye to them. But I cannot ignore the life of a street dog whenever I see one wandering in the street, looking for something to eat. That’s why I’m no longer a food waster. When I see wasted food, I always think of a hungry dog climbing to garbage bins, searching for food that people have thrown there. When eating in a restaurant, I’m not afraid to take leftover food to feed stray cats or dogs.A week ago, I saw a homeless dog around the garbage bins. Immediately I knelt down, spoke to her softly and ran my hands over her. I could see that she had had puppies.I couldn’t imagine how she could have been able to care for them. Hours earlier, I’d bagged up a plate of leftover fish. As I unwrapped it, she wagged her tail and sniffed at it. She ate all the fish in no time. It’s sad, isn’t it? I can’t understand why many of us waste so much and think little of it. These homeless animals have taught me that food is precious. Even when I don’t have leftovers with me, I’ll take the time to get something from t he grocery store to feed them.I know my power is small, so I hope that next time you see wasted food, do turn it into worthy food. You have the power to save a life!1. The author uses what Dr. Goodall says to show__________.A. how we can develop our businessB. why it is important to be greatC. why the program is popular globallyD. how we can change the world positively2. Seeing homeless dogs makes the author never waste foodD. People throw food into garbage bins to feed homeless dogs3. Living just a few blocks from the beach, Natalie can see the ocean and hear the waves from her house. “It’s the ocean that makes Rockaway so special,” she says.On October 29, 2012, that ocean turned fierce. That night, Hurricane Sandy attacked the East Coast, and Rockaway was hit especially hard. Fortunately, Natalie’s family escaped to Brooklyn shortly before the city’s bridge closed. When they returned to Rockaway the next day, they found their neighborhood in ruins. Many of Natalie’s friends had lost th eir homes and were living far away. All around her, people were suffering, especially the elderly. Natalie’s school was so damaged that she had to temporarily attend a school in Brooklyn. In the following few days, the men and women helping Rockaway recover inspired Natalie. Volunteers came with carloads of donated clothing and toys. Neighbors devoted their spare time to helping others rebuild. Teenagers climbed dozens of flights of stairs to deliver water and food to elderly people trapped in powerless high-rise buildings.“My mom tells me that I can’t control what happens to me,” Natalie says. “but I can always choose how I deal with it.”Natalie’s choice was to help. She created a website page matching survivors in need with donors who wanted to help. Natalie posted information about a boy named Patrick, who lost his baseball card collection when his house burned down. Within days, Patrick’s collection was replaced. In the coming months, her website page helped lots of kids: Christopher, who received a new basketball; Charlie, who got a new keyboard. Natalie also worked with other organizations to bring much-needed supplies to Rockaway. Her efforts made her a famous person. Last April, she was invited to the White House and honored as a Hurricane Sandy Champion of Change.Today, the scars(创痕) of destruction are still seen in Rockaway, but hope isin the air. The streets are clear, and many homes have been rebuilt. “I can’t imagine living anywhere but Rockaway,” Natalie declares. “My n eighborhood will be back, even stronger than before.”8. It has been regarded as the beginning of the holiday shopping season. Although it’s not an official holiday, millions of employers give their employees the day off, and many people use that day to get a jump-start on their holiday shopping. A similar day in Canada and Great Britain is called “Boxing Day”.Black Friday has become somewhat of a marketing sensation in recent years. Since 2005, it has been the busiest shopp ing day of the year. To lure shoppers, retailers (零售商) routinely open their doors as early as 4 a.m. and offer special sales and promotions to the shoppers that arrive early. Some of the special deals offered by stores are only available in limited quantities. That is why some shoppers intent on getting the best de als often camp out in front of stores overnight so that they’ll be the first in line when the doors open. But why Black Friday? Historians believe the name started in Philadelphia in the mid-1960s. Bus drivers and police used “Black Friday” to describe the heavy traffic that would block city streets the day after Thanksgiving as shoppers headed to the stores.Businesses, however, didn’t like the negative tone associated with the “Black Friday” name. In the early 1980s, a more positive explanation of the name began to circulate. According to this alternative explanation, Black Friday is the day when retailers finally begin to turn a profit for the year. In accounting terms (会计行业), operating at a loss is called being “in the red” because accountants traditionally used red ink to show negative amounts. Positive amounts were usually shown in black ink. Thus, being “in the black” is a good thing because it means stores are operating at a profit.Recently, for those who are too busy to shop on Black Fri day or who just don’t want to fight the crowds, the Monday following Black Friday has become known as Cyber Monday (网络星期一) for the many online deals.12. On Black Friday, the Americans ______.A. don’t have to go to work as usualB. look exactly like the CanadiansC. are usually busy doing shoppingD. stay at home and relax themselves13.The underlined word “lure” (in Paragraph 2) probably means ______.A. protectB. attractC. persuadeD. remind14.How do the retailers understand Black Friday?A. It is totally different from Boxing Day.B. They usually lose so me money on the day.C. It never keeps them very busy.D. It probably brings them more money.15.The author writes this passage in order to _____.A. state the development of Cyber MondayB. tell the difference between red and blackC. introduce Black Friday to the readersD.explain the meaning of Boxing Day第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

He must either give the public what they want, or he must find a new way of singing that will attract their attention. Even when he has succeeded, and his records are sold everywhere, he cannot relax. Then he must work harder than ever to remain popular, because there are always younger singers trying to become famous and to steal some of the popularity. The life o f a successful pop singer isn’t easy at all. He can only relax when he is alone, because everything he does is watched and reported in the special newspaper written for the fans. The fans are the most important people in the world for the singer. They buy his records, they go to his concerts, and they make him rich andhysterical(歇斯底里的) that they do anything to get a souvenir. They steal handkerchief, they tear off buttons, and they even cut off pieces of unfortunate singer’s hair. Many singers have been forced to hide, and some who have not been so lucky as to escape have been stripped(剥) practically naked by their fans. The Success of Pop Singers( C )The host poured the tea into the cup and placed it on the small table in front of his guests, who were a father and daughter, and put the lid on the cup with a clink. Apparently thinking of something, he hurried into the inner room, leaving the thermos(热水瓶) on the table. His two guests heard a chest of drawers opening and a rustling. They remained sitting in the parlor(客厅), the ten-year-old daughter looking at the flowers outside the window, the father just about to take his cup, when the crash came, right there in the parlor. Something was hopelessly broken. It was the thermos, which had fallen to the floor. The girl looked over her shoulder abruptly, startled, staring. It was mysterious. Neither of them had touched it, not even a little bit. True, it hadn’t stood steadily when their host placed it on the table, but it hadn’t fallen then. The crash of the thermos caused the host, with a box of sugar cubes in hisThe father started to say something. Then he muttered, “Sorry, I touched it and it fell.”“It doesn’t matter,” the host said.Later, when they left the house, the daughter said, “Daddy, did you touch it?”“No. But it stood so close to me.”“But you didn’t touch it. I saw your reflection in the windowpane. You were sitting perfectly still.”The father laughed. “What then would you give as the cause of its fall?”The thermos fell by itself. The floor is uneven. It wasn’t steady when Mr. Li put it there. Daddy, why did you say that you… ?”“That won’t do,” girl. It sounds more acceptable when I say I knocked it d own. There are things which people accept less, the more you defend them. The truer the story you tell, the less true it sounds.”The daughter was lost in silence for a while. Then she said, “Can you explain it only this way?”“Only this way,” her fat her said.28. The underlined words “ blurted out” in Paragraph 4 means “ _______”.A. said quietlyB. said mysteriouslyC. said quicklyD. said patiently29. The location of the thermos before it fell was __________.A. on the floor of the inner roomB. on the windowpaneC. on a small table in the parlorD. behind the father and daughter30. It can be inferred from the story that the father _________.A. didn’t know Mr. Li very wellB. didn’t think Mr. Li would believe the truthC. was sorry that he told the truthD. was a stubborn man31. The story shows us that ___________.A. people rarely tell the truthB. if you defend yourself, people will believe youC. people should take the blame for something that they didn’t doD. you can’t always make people believe the truth( D)If you are human, you can’t help but experience times when everything seems to be going wrong and you feel as if your life is completely out of control. It isduring those “down times” that words of encouragement from family, friends, co-workers or even strangers can lighten your spirits. It is also during those times that destructive words can sink you deeper and deeper into depression. For example, consider this story about a group of frogs who were traveling through the woods when two of them fell into a deep pit(坑). All of the other frogs gathered around the pit. When they saw how deep the pit was, they told the two unfortunate frogs they would never get out.The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump out of the pit. The other frogs kept telling them to stop. Finally, one of the frogs took heed of what the other frogs were saying and simply gave up. He fell down and died. The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again the crowd of frogs shouted at him to stop the pain. The more they shouted, the harder he jumped and finally he made it to safety. When he got out, the other frogs asked him why he continued to jump when they were all shouting at him to simply quit. The frog explained to them that he was a little bit deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the entire time.Every time you have a chance to say either something positive or negative to another human being, do choose the chance to say someth ing positive! Don’t let those opportunities get away from you. Your words have a large amount of power. Use them wisely. You really never know just how much they can mean to someone else.32. The first paragraph tells us that words play an important part especially when _______.A. we stay with our family, friends and co-workersB.we hear strangers say something to usC. we get through hard times in life.D.we make some big mistakes.33. The underlined phrase “took heed of” has the similar meaning with “_____”A. acted according toB. had some doubtC. held on toD. got used to34. Devon Gallagher, a college graduate from Philadelphia, wants the world to know exactly where she's been while she's on her worldwide vacation in a special way. The traveler, who was born with a bone disease, had her right leg amputated (截肢) at the age of four. Although the amputation caused inconvenience for Gallagher early on, she now sees it as nothing short of inspiration for living her best life.To spread that message. Gallagher has gone to social media, where she shares photos of her travels across the world, but instead of simply using a geo-tag (地理位置标签), she writes her location on her artificial leg before taking a picture. Now she has been taking pictures across the Continent, which show her cycling over the canal in Amsterdam relaxing on a wall overlooking the city of Barcelona, posing with a waffle in Brussels, taking in the beautiful Parthenon temple in Athens and enjoying a river ride in Budapest, all with the well-known locations written on her artificial leg."I get a new leg every two years and I can choose the design on it. One day I had a sudden thought to get a chalk-board," Gallagher said. "My mum and grandmother didn't like the idea, but my friends thought it was great and told me to go for it, so I did."Gallagher said people often stare when she's writing on her leg, but once she shares the photos, she receives only positive feedback (反馈), "My leg hasn't stopped me from doing anything I've wanted to do," she said. "I don't know if it's my determination to prove to myself that I can do it, anyway, I've been able to keep up with people at my age and lead a pretty great life."Gallagher shows us that you should never let anything stand in the way of your dreams. 内蒙古翁牛特旗乌丹第一中学高中英语阅读理解试题及答案

一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解The new social robots, including Jibo, Cozmo, Kuri and Meccano M.A.X., bear some resemblance to assistants like Apple's Siri, but these robots come with something more. They are designed to win us over not with their smarts but with their personality. They are sold as companions that do more than talk to us. Time magazine hailed (称赞) the robots that "could fundamentally reshape how we interact with machines." But is reshaping how we interact with machines a good thing, especially for children? Some researchers in favor of the robots don't see a problem with this. People have relationships with many kinds of things. Some say robots are just another thing with which we can have relationships. To support their argument, roboticists sometimes point to how children deal with toy dolls. Children animate (赋予…生命) dolls and turn them into imaginary friends. Jibo, in a sense, will be one more imaginary friend, and arguably a more intelligent and fun one.Getting attached to dolls and sociable machines is different, though. Today's robots tell children that they have emotions, friendships, even dreams to share. In reality, the whole goal of the robots is emotional trickery. For instance, Cozmo the robot needs to be fed, repaired and played with. Boris Sofman, the chief executive of Anki, the company behind Cozmo, says that the idea is to create "a deeper and deeper emotional connection ... And if you neglect him, you feel the pain of that." What is the point of this, exactly? What does it mean to feel the pain of neglecting something that feels no pain at being neglected, or to feel anger at being neglected by something that doesn't even know it is neglecting you? This should not be our only concern. It is troubling that these robots try to empathize with children. Empathy allows us to put ourselves in the place of others, to know what they are feeling. Robots, however, have no emotions to share, and they cannot put themselves in our place. No matter what robotic creatures "say" or squeak, they don't understand our emotional lives. They present themselves as empathy machines, but they are missing the essential equipment. They have not been born, they don't know pain, or death, or fear. Robot thinking may be thinking, but robot feeling is never feeling, and robot love is never love. What is also troubling is that children take robots' behavior to indicate feelings. When the robots interact with them, children take this as evidence that the robots like them, and when robots don't work when needed, children also take it personally. Their relationships with the robots affect their self-esteem (自尊). In one study, an 8-year-old boy concluded that the robot stopped talking to him because the robot liked his brothers better. For so long, we dreamed of artificial intelligence offering us not only simple help but conversation and care. Now that our dream is becoming real, it is time to deal with the emotional downside of living with robots that "feel."(1)How are the new social robots different from Siri?A. They are intended to teach children how to talk.B. They are designed to attract people with their smarts.C. Their main function is to evaluate children's personality.D. They have a new way to communicate with human beings.(2)In Paragraph 3 Cozmo is used as an example to show that the social robots ______.A. are deeply connected with human beingsB. are unable to build a real relationship with childrenC. are so advanced that they can feel the pain of human beingsD. are not good enough to carry out the instructions of children(3)The underlined phrase "essential equipment" in Paragraph 4 refers to ______.A. emotionB. painC. fearD. thinking(4)Which of the following shows the development of ideas in the passage?I: Introduction P: Point Sp: Sub-point (次要点) C: ConclusionA. B.C. D.【答案】(1)D(2)B(3)A(4)B【解析】【分析】本文是一篇议论文,新的社交机器人与以往机器人不同,他们不仅比我们聪明还有他们的个性。

He must either give the public what they want, or he must find a new way of singing that will attract their attention. The more they shouted, the harder he jumped and finally he made it to safety. That’s because_______________.A. he struggled to prove that they were wrongB.he thought they were encouraging himC. he was angry with what they saidD.he didn’t want to let them down.35. After reading the passage, readers should learn a lesson that _________.A. we can use encouraging words to help others outB. having a positive attitude is important in lifeC. never give up until we winD. we must believe in ourselves rather than others第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10 分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

An illness had kept the boy home, but he had expressed an interest in meeting me. I was told it would mean a great deal to him, so I agreed.During the nine-mile drive to his home, I found out something about Matthew. He had muscular dystrophy (肌肉萎缩症).When he was born, the doctor told his parents that he would not live to five, and then they were told he would not make it to ten. Now he was thirteen. He wanted to meet me because I was a gold-medal power lifter, and I knew about overcoming obstacles(障碍)and going for my dreams.I spent over an hour talking to Matthew. Never once did he complain or ask, “Why me?” He spoke about winning and succeeding and going for his dreams. Obviously, he knew what he was talking about. He didn’t mention that his classmates had made fun of him because he was different. He just talked about his hopes for the future, and how one day he wanted to lift weights with me. When we had finished talking, I went to my briefcase and pulled out the first gold medal I had won and put it around his neck. I told him he was more of a winner and knew more about success and overcoming obstacles than I ever would. He looked at it for amoment, then took it off and handed it back to me. He said, “You are a champion. You earned that medal. Someday when I get to the Olympics and win my own medal, I will show it to you.”Last summer I received a letter from Matthew’s parents telling me that Matthew had passed away. They wanted me to have a letter he had written to me a few days before:Dick,My mum said I should send you a thank-you letter for the picture you sent me. I also want to let you know that the doctors tell me that I don’t have long to live any more, but I still smile as much as I can.I told you someday that I would go to the Olympics and win a gold medal, but I know now I will never get to do that. Consumers have been willing to pay up to twice as much for goods with organic labels (商标). However, if you think paying a little more for organic food gets you a more nutritious and safer product, you might want to save your money. A study led by researchers at Stanford University says that organic products aren’t necessarily more nutritious, and they’re no less likely to suffer from disease-causing bacteria, either. The latest results, published in the Annuals of Internal Medicine, suggest that buyers may be wasting their money. “We did not find strong evidence that organicfood is more nutritious or healthier,” says Dr. Crystal Smith-Spangler from Stanford. “So consumers shouldn’t assume that one type of food has a lower risk or is safer.”For their new study, Smith-Spangler and her colleagues conducted a review of two categories of research, including 17 studies that compared health outcomes between consumers of organic against traditional food products, and 223 studies that analyzed the nutritional content of the foods, including key vitamins, minerals and fats. While the researchers found little difference in nutritional content, they did find that organic fruit and vegetables were 20% less likely to have chemicals remaining on the surfaces. Neither organic nor traditional foods showed levels of chemicals high enough to go beyond food safety standards. And both organic and traditional meats, such as chicken and pork, were equally likely to be harmed by bacteria at very low rates. The researchers did find that organic milk and chicken contained higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, a healthy fat also found in fish that can reduce the risk of heart disease. However, these nutritional differences were too small, and the researchers were unwilling to make much of them until further studies confirm the trends.Organic food i s produced with fewer chemicals and more natural-growing practices, but that doesn’t always translate into a more nutritious or healthier product. The U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) states that “whether you buy organic or not, finding the freshest foods available may have the biggest effect ontaste.” Fresh food is at least as good as anything marketed as organic.8. The new research questions whether organic food __________.A. should replace traditional foodB. has been overpriced by farmersC. is really more nutritious and healthierD. is grown with less harmful chemicals9. Smith-Spangler and her colleagues found that __________.A. organic food could reduce the risk of heart diseaseB. traditional food was grown with more natural methodsC. both organic and traditional food they examined were safeD. there was not a presence of any forms of bacteria in organic food10. Which of the following is relatively healthier according to the passage?A. Organic chicken and pork.B. Organic milk and chicken.C. Traditional chicken and pork.D. Traditional fruit and vegetables.11. What is the author’s attitude toward organic food?A. Grateful.B. Doubtful.C. Unconcerned.D. Approving.DI have always been somebody who often alternated(交替)between hoping to be alone and hoping to be with others. The thing was, I only wanted to be with others in a very particular way. I wanted to feel warmth between me and the other person. I wanted to feel safe and comfortable. I wanted to feel close. If my relationship with someone didn’t have closeness, it tended to make me feel lonlier than just being alone.I found most of the advice out there about how to get over loneliness futile. “Put yourself out there more!” the experts said. “Meet more people and you will finally find good friendships.” That only sounded reasonable. Most of us already have people in our lives with whom we feel that spark(火花)of connection, and we just don’t know how to properly fan the flames. We don’t know how to move from common interacting with someone to becoming close. In other words, I’ve found that most of us who fight against loneliness do not lack access to other people. That’s not the source of the pain. The source of the pain is the lack of a certain feeling in our relationships. And that feeling is closeness. This feel of closeness is what you really want when you are lonely. The feeling of closeness arises between two people when they both feel that the other understands them well and cares about them deeply. I call these two important qualities of closeness “knowing and caring”.Taken together, knowing and caring are a powerful combination. They say to the other person, “Not only do I see the real you, but I want to keep the real you well.” This is the message you will give and receive from close relationships. Getting to know others in the way that improves closeness means coming to understand them from their own perspective(角度). Closeness doesn’t have to be something that happens by accident--- it is within your control to create. Starting now, you really can stop being lonely.12. What does the underlined word “futile” mean?A. Unhelpful.B. Wonderful.C. Useful.D. Unbelievable.13. According to the author, most people who feel lonely _______A. should make more new friendsB. don’t lack chances to contact other peopleC. don’t know how to express their feelingsD. refuse to change their attitudes toward others14. According to the passage, the feeling of closeness is ______ .A. what we really need in our daily lifeB. something we can’t control or createC. based on understanding and valuing each otherD. the most important for building a good relationship15. T o build a close relationship with others, we should ______ .A. learn to look after othersB. share our thoughts and feelingsC. spend more time staying with othersD. think more from others’s points of view第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)按照短文内容,从短文后的选项当选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。
