This year‘s college graduates are facing one of the worst job markets. For example,Ryan Stewart,a graduate of san Jose State University, got a degree in religious studies, but he has not gotten any job offers. He points out that many people already working are getting laid off and don’t have jobs,so it‘s even harder for new college graduates to find jobs.Four years ago,the future looked bright for his class of 2006. There were many high-tech (“dotcom”)job opportunities, graduates received many job offers, and they were able to get jobs with high salaries and benefits such as health insurance and paid vacations. However,“Times have changed. It‘s a new market.” according to an officer ofthe university. The officer says students who do find jobs started preparing two years ago. They worked during summer vacations, they have had several short-time jobs, and they majored in fields that are still paying well, such as accounting or nursing.Even teaching is not a secure profession now. Ryan Stewart wanted to be a teacher, but instead he will probably go back to school in order to become a college teacher. Her daughter says,“ I was feeling … like down and sad even though I didn‘t really show it.Judith Wallerstein says problems from divorce can last many years. They can show up when the kids are adults. And the kids have their own trouble. Wallerstein studied 93 children over a generation. The results can be found in her book. She says that children of divorce are more likely to have problems with drugs. They are far more likely to seek therapy. About 40 percent of them avoid marriage themselves. Whenthey do marry, fail at nearly twice the usual rate. It is hard for them to trust. They areafraid of failing.Critics say Wallerstein had too few children in her study. They think that Wallerstein stresses too much from a small study. Other things may be the cause of the kid‘s problem. The study does not compare kids from divorced families with kids from “healthy” families. Wallerstein‘s families divorced a generation ago. Times have changed. People feel different about divorce. Today programs like Kid’s Turn try to reduce some of the effects of divorce with family advice. Talking about their feelings helps the kids get though it. Sincethey know more about the problem, maybe the kids will be able to handle it.1. 湖北专升本英语历年作文题目

湖北专升本英语历年作文题目English:As an English major student, I have learned a lot about different literary works, authors, and literary movements. One of the most influential literary works that has left a deep impression on me is George Orwell's "1984." This dystopian novel depicts a totalitarian society where the government controls every aspect of people's lives, from their thoughts to their actions. Through the protagonist Winston's journey of rebellion and self-discovery, Orwell highlights the dangers of totalitarianism and the importance of individual freedom. The novel's portrayal of surveillance, manipulation, and oppression serves as a stark warning against the erosion of personal liberties and the spread of misinformation. In today's increasingly digital age, where data privacy and surveillance are hot topics, "1984" resonates more than ever, reminding us of the fragility of democracy and the need to safeguard our rights and freedoms.中文翻译:作为一名英语专业学生,我学习了很多关于不同文学作品、作家和文学运动的知识。

The students also answered questions about their general health, including how often they went to a doctor.Peterson followed the health of his students the following year and discovered that the pessimists had twice as many diseases and made twice as many trips to the doctor as the optimists.Later, Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania and two of his colleagues, using interviews and blood tests, found that optimists have better immune(免疫的) activity than pessimists. Why? One big factor is that “Pessimists individuals,” as Seligman writes, “get depressed more easily and more often.”When a person is depressed, certain brain hormones(荷尔蒙) become reduced, creating a chain of biochemical(⽣物化学的) events that end up slowing down the activity of the immune system.Optimists also look at information in more depth to find out what they can do about the risk factors. In a study by Lisa Aspinwall, at the University of Maryland, subjects read health-related information on cancer and other topics. She discovered that optimists spent more time than pessimists reading the severe risk material and they remembered more of it.“These are people,” says Aspinwall, “who aren’t sitting around wishing things were different. They believe in a better outcome, and that whatever measures they take will help them to heal.” In other words, instead of having their heads in the clouds, optimistic people look and seek. They aren’t afraid to look into the situation because they are optimistic. Thus, for yetanother reason, optimists are likely to be healthier. The best news is what research has shown repeatedly: Anyone can become more optimistic with effort. And every effort you make to keep an optimistic attitude will reward you with a stronger immune system. So you’ll enjoy better health.21.The purpose of these scientific studies is to _______.A.pick out people who are more optimisticB.determine a person’s level of optimism and pessimismC.prove pessimistic people get depressed more easily and more oftenD.discover to what degree one’s health is related to one’s attitude in life22.Seligman’s research suggests that _______.A.optimism helps people become healthierB.interviews are the main tool used in the researchC.blood tests may not produce exact resultsD.one’s immune system is controlled by one’s thoughts23. According to the scientists, the reduction of immune activity is basically caused by ______ .A.some uncertain factorsB. one’s worse condition of healthC.one’s depressed feelingD. the change of biochemical events24.It can be inferred from the passage that _______ .A.optimists spend more time on studying and searchingB.pessimists are more concerned with their healthC.we can tell who is pessimist by observing his reading behaviorD.hormones are something with mysterious effects on the brain25.which of the following statements is NOT true?A.Everyone can develop an optimistic attitude with effort.B.Pessimists have no hope of making a change in their attitude.C.Optimists have a stronger immune system.D.A positive attitude toward life makes us healthier.Passage 4An old lady in a plane had a blanket over her head and she did not want to take it off . It is high in polyphenols, compounds with strong antioxidant activity that in test-tube and animal models show anticancer and heart-protective effects. Good clinical studies are few, however, and although physicians tell their patients to drink green tea, there hasn't been any definite proof of the value of that advice. A team of Japanese researchers was able to link green tea consumption with decreased mortality from many causes-including heart disease. The researchers tracked 40,530 healthy adults ages 40 to 79 in a region of northeastern Japan where most people drink green tea, following them for up to 11 years. Those who drank five or more cups of green tea a day had significantly lower mortality rates than those who drank less than one cup a day. There were also fewer deaths from cardiovascular disease. But no such association was seen with deaths from cancer. Nor was consumption of oolong or black tea connected with any decrease in mortality. Those teas are easier to be combined with oxygen in processing, which not only darkens the color of the leaves and changes their flavor but also reduces their polyphenol content. Coffee is more complicated. It has received both gold stars and black marks in medical literature. It, too, contains antioxidants, although they are less well studied than tea polyphenols. Evidence for the health benefits of coffee is growing, however. A group of investigators from Finland, Italy and the Netherlands reports that coffee seems to protect against age-related decline in mental capacity. The scientists studied 676 healthy men born from 1900 to 1920 and followed them for 10 years, using standardized measures of brain function. Their conclusion: the men who consumed coffee had significantly less decline in mental capacity than those who didn't. Three cups a day seemed to provide the most protection. Population studies like those help us form assumptions about relationships between dietary habits and long-term health. We still have to test our suppositions in controlled conditions, and measure the effects of coffee and tea on various systems of the body.(分数:10.00)(1).Physicians often tell their patients to drink green tea because( ).(分数:2.00)A.its medical value has been provedB.it is believed to be good for one's health √C.it has long since been used clinicallyD.its effectiveness has been shown in animals解析:解析:事实细节题。
