Oliver Twist, one of the most famous works of Charles Dickens, is a novel reflecting the tragic fact of the life in Britain in 18th century. The author who himself was born in a poor family wrote this novel in his twenties with a view to reveal the ugly masks of those cruel criminals and to expose the horror and violence hidden underneath the narrow and dirty streets in London. The hero of this novel was Oliver Twist, an orphan, who was thrown into a world full of poverty and crime. He suffered enormous pain, such as hunger, thirst, beating and abuse. While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver, I was shocked by his sufferings. I felt for the poor boy, but at the same time I detested the evil Fagin and the brutal Bill. To my relief, as was written in all the best stories, the goodness eventually conquered devil and Oliver lived a happy life in the end. One of the plots that attracted me most is that after the theft, little Oliver was allowed to recover in the kind care of Mrs. Maylie and Rose and began a new life. He went for walks with them, or Rose read to him, and he worked hard at his lessons. He felt as if he had left behind forever the world ofcrime and hardship and poverty. How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind The reason is the nature of goodness. I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed that goodness could conquer every difficulty. Although I dont think goodness is omnipotent, yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded. For me, the nature of goodness is one of the most necessary character for a person. Goodness is to humans what water is to fish. He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person. On the contrary, as the famous saying goes, The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose, he who is with goodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person. People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done, and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself. To my disappointment, nowadays some people seem to doubt the existence of the goodness in humanity. They look down on peoples honesty and kindness, thinking it foolish of people to be warm-hearted. As a result, they show no sympathy to those who are in trouble and seldom offer to help others. On the other hand, theyattach importance to money and benefit. In their opinion, money is the only real object while emotions and morality are nihility. If they cannot get profit from showing their kindness, they draw back when others are faced with trouble and even hit a man when he is down. They are one of the sorts that I really detest. Francis Bacon said in his essay, Goodness, of all virtues and dignities of the mind, is the greatest, being the character of the Deity, and without it, man is a busy, mischievous, wretched thing, no better than a kind of vermin. That is to say a person without goodness is destined to lose everything. Therefore, I, a kind person, want to tell those vermin-to-be to learn from the kind Oliver and regain the nature of goodness. Here I am sitting on a couch alone, thinking about what I have just finished reading with tears of sadness filling my eyes and fire of indignation filling my heart, which revived my exhausted soul that has already been covered by the cruelty and the selfishness of the secular world for a long time. It is truly what I felt after reading Oliver Twist, written by the prominent British author Charles Dickens. The resonance between me and the book makes me feelnot only the kindness and the wickedness of all the characters in the novel, but what this aloof society lacks, and what I lack deep inside. These supreme resources Im talking about right now are somewhat different from minerals, oil that we usually mention. Theyre abstract like feelings, and some kinds of spiritual stimulation that all of us desire anxiously from one another love and care. Those charitable figures whom Dickens created in the novel are really what we need in life. They showed love and care to others, just as the gentle rain from the sky fell upon the earth, which was carved into my heart deeply.Mr. Brownlow is one such person. The other day he had one of his elaborate watches stolen by two skilled teenage thieves, Artful Dodger and Charley Bates, and thought naturally it was Oliver, who was an orphan and forced to live with a gang of thieves, that had done it because he was the only one near by after the theft had taken place. Being wrathful, he caught Oliver, and sent him to the police station where the ill-tempered, unfair magistrates worked. Fortunately for him, Oliver was proved innocent by one onlooker afterwards. With sympathy, Mr. Brownlow took the injured, poor Oliver to his own home. There Oliver livedfreely and gleefully for some months as if he were Mr. Brownlows own son. One day, however, Mr. Brownlow asked Oliver to return some books to the bookseller and to send some money for the new books that he had already collected. The thief Oliver once stayed with kidnapped him. After that he disappeared in Mr. Brownlows life. Searching for a while, Mr. Brownlow had to believe the fact that he had run away with his money. But dramatically, they came across each other again a few years later. Without hesitation, Mr. Brownlow took Oliver home for the second time not caring if he had done something evil.Perhaps most of us would feel confused about Mr. Brownlows reaction. But as a matter of fact, this is just the lesson we should learn from him. Jesus said in the Bible. Forgive not seven times, but seventy-times seven. Why is that Because forgiveness is our ability to remove negative thoughts and neutralize them so our energy may be spent on doing what we came here for. We cannot move forward in our future if past issues cloud our thinking. Stop put Mr. Brownlow into the list of your models. Always give people a second chance no matter what they might have done. Thats also a substantial part of loving and caring others. Then there are Mrs. Maylie and Rose, Olivers other benefactors. Maybe the reason they loved and cared Oliver was not because of forgiveness. In my point of view, it was trust. They had faith in Oliver when he was considered to be a filthy burglar who tried to break the front door of Maylies at midnight. But this wasnt how these two ladies saw the whole thing. They denied Olivers crime immediately and listened attentively to Olivers own description of his miserable life. They were deeply touched by Olivers strong perseverance and astonishing vitality. Accordingly, they remedied Olivers body and heart and turned him into a different boy. He began to wear appropriate and clean suits which were tailor-made for him and receive education. As far as we can see, it is trust that helps us all live together without precaution. Sometimes trust can even lead us to miracles, which we often expect to come about, so why not trust Trust yourself, trust others, and youll salute miracles every single day.。

1One of Dickens most enduringly popular stories is Oliver Twist, an early work published 1837-8. Like many of his later novels, its central theme is the hardship faced by the dispossessed and those of the outside of tolite society. Oliver himself is born in a workhouse and treated cruelly there as was the norm at the time for pauper children, in particular by Bumble, a parish council official or eadle The story follows Oliver as he escapes the workhouse and runs away to London. Here he receives an education in villainy from the criminal gang of Fagin that includes the brutal thief Bill Sikes, the famous artful Dodger and Nancy, Bill whore. Oliver is rescued by the intervention of a benefactor - Mr Brownlow - but the mysterious Monks gets the gang to kidnap the boy again. Nancy intervenes but is murdered viciously by Sikes after she has showed some redeeming qualities and has discovered Monk sinister intention. The story closes happily and with justice for Bumble and the cruel Monks who has hidden the truth of Oliver parentage out of malice. Accusations were made that the book glamorised crime (like the ewgate Group of the period) but Dickens wisely disassociated himself from criminal romances. His achievement was in fact in presenting the underworld and problems of poverty to the well-off in a way rarely attempted previously. 2How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? He was born in a poor family, but later he became famous and rich. The famous novel ——A Tale of Two Cities is written by him, too. This novel shows us the cruelty and crime of London. Oliver Twist, the hero,is a poor orphan. He lived in a life filled with taunts. Nobody loved him. With visions of his future,he decided to go to London. He thought a new life was ing,but he was wrong,a group of thieves were waiting for him.The author created a group of bad men.Fagin,an old man, with a horribly ugly face and red hair, was the head of those thieves. He tried to make Oliver be a criminal.Bill Sikes was a cruel and evil man in the group. He had a bad temper.Monks,Oliver’s brother, did bad things to hurt Oliver. He wanted to get the legacies left by his father alone. He paid Fagin to trap Oliver into a life of crime. In fact, they were all afraid of being put into prison and being hanged. They can’t live happily.Nancy,a poor girl, loved a bad man. She had to help Bill Sikes perpetrate, because she loved him. She had to be loyal to the criminal group, because she loved him. Actually, she was kind. She helped Oliver at the risk of her life. If she hadn’t fell in love with Sikes, she would have a happy ending. The author showed these ugly things to us,he described an ugly world. But there are more kind people in the novel.Mr. Brownlow,an old friend of Oliver’s father, took good care of Oliver.Mrs. Maylie,Harry Maylie’s mother, saved Oliver of his lif e.Miss Rose is the aunt of Oliver,in fact. They all protect Oliver from hurt.Oliver was unlucky to meet so many evil people, but he was luckier to get help from so many kind people. In the end of the novel, all the evil people were punished. Oliver got what he should get. Rose married Harry Maylie and they lived happily. All the kind people have a happy ending.Righteousness can always beat evil. I think this is what the author wants to tell. Although there are many ugly things in the world,we must believe that righteousness can always beat evil.We must store kindness even though we are in ugly situation. One is poor if he doesn’t have kindness. One is rich if he has kindness. So please store your kindness in your mind. What’s more, the novel also tells us t o be brave. Oliver was brave enough to overe all the problems he had met. No matter how difficult the problem is,we can’t give up,we must try our best to solve it.From Oliver Twist ,I have learnt a lot .It’s really a good novel.《雾都孤儿》英语读书笔记篇4“Oliver Twist” is a realisticnovel of the British author Charles Dickens.

1Here I am sitting on a couch alone, thinking about what I have just finished reading with tears of sadness filling my eyes and fire of indignation filling my heart, which revived my exhausted soul that has already been covered by the cruelty and the selfishness of the secular world for a long time. It is truly what I felt after reading Oliver Twist, written by the prominent British author Charles Dickens. The resonance between me and the book makes me feel not only the kindness and the wickedness of all the characters in the novel, but what this aloof society lacks, and what I lack deep inside. These supreme resources I’m talking about right now are somewhat different from minerals, oil that we usually mention. They’re abstract like feelings, and some kinds of spiritual stimulation that all of us desire anxiously from one another —— love and care. Those charitable figures whom Dickens created in the novel are really what we need in life. They showed love and care to others, just as the gentle rain from the sky fell upon the earth, which was carved into my heart deeply.Mr. Brownlow is one such person. The other day he had one of his elaborate watches stolen by two skilled teenage thieves, Artful Dodger and Charley Bates, and thought naturally it wasOliver, who was an orphan and forced to live with a gang of thieves, that had done it because he was the only one near by after the theft had taken place. There Oliver lived freely and gleefully for some months as if he were Mr. Brownlow’s own son. One day, however, Mr. Brownlow asked Oliver to return some books to the bookseller and to send some money for the new books that he had already collected. The thief Oliver once stayed with kidnapped him. After that he disappeared in Mr. Brownlow’s life. Brownlow’s reaction. But as a matter of fact, this is just the lesson we should learn from him. Jesus said in the Bible. “Forgive not seven times, but seventy-times seven.” Why is that Because forgiveness is our ability to remove negative thoughts and neutralize them so our energy may be spent on doing what we came here for. We cannot move forward in our future if past issues cloud our thinking. Stop put Mr. Brownlow into the list of your models. Always give people a second chance no matter what they might have done. That’s also a substantial part of loving andcaring others. Then there are Mrs. Maylie and Rose, Oliver’s other benefactors. Maybe the reason they loved and cared Oliver was not because of forgiveness. In my point of view, it was trust. They had faith in Oliver when he was considered to be a filthy burglar who tried to break the front door of M aylie’s at midnight. But this wasn’t how these two ladies saw the whole thing. They denied Oliver’s crime immediately and listened attentively to Oliver’s own description of his miserable life. They were deeply touched by Oliver’s strong perseverance and a stonishing vitality. Accordingly, they remedied Oliver’s body and heart and turned him into a different boy. He began to wear appropriate and clean suits which were tailor-made for him and receive education. As far as we can see, it is trust that helps us all live together without precaution. Sometimes trust can even lead us to miracles, which we often expect to come about, so why not trust Trust yourself, trust others, and you’ll salute miracles every single day.《雾都孤儿》英文读书笔记2Oliver Twist, one of the most famous works of Charles Dickens’, is a novel reflecting the tragic fact of the life in Britain in 18th century. The author who himself was born in a poor family wrote this novel in his twenties with a view to reveal the ugly masks of those cruel criminals and to expose the horror and violence hidden underneath the narrow and dirty streets in London. The hero of this novel was Oliver Twist, an orphan, who was thrown into a world full of povertyand crime. He felt as if he had left behind forever the world of crime and hardship and poverty. How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind The reason is the nature of goodness. I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed that goodness could conquer every difficulty. Although I don’t think goodness is omnipotent, yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded. For me, the nature of goodness is one of the most necessary character for a person. Goodness is to humans what water is to fish. He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person. On the contrary, as the famous saying goes, ‘The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose’, he who is with goodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person. People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done, and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself. To my disappointment, nowadays som e people seem to doubt the existence of thegoodness in humanity. They look down on people’s honesty and kindness, thinking it foolish of people to be warm-hearted. As a result, they show no sympathy to those who are in trouble and seldom offer to help others. On the other hand, they attach importance to money and benefit. In their opinion, money is the only real object while emotions and morality are nihility. If they cannot get profit from showing their ‘kindness’, they draw back when others are faced with trouble and even hit a man when he is down. They are one of the sorts that I really detest. Francis Bacon said in his essay, ‘Goo dness, of all virtues and dignities of the mind, is the greatest, being the character of the Deity, and without it, man is a busy, mischievous, wretched thing, no better than a kind of vermin.’That is to say a person without goodness is destined to lose everything. Therefore, I, a kind person, want to tell those ‘vermin-to-be’ to learn from the kind Oliver and regain the nature of goodness.《雾都孤儿》英文读书笔记3Oliver Twist, one of the most famous works of Charles Dickens’, is a novel reflecting the tragic fact of the life in Britain in 18th century.

The stolen object happened to be the friend of his savior and his deceased father. When he was forced to steal, the thief was exactly his aunt. These things thatare unlikely to happen in the real world are cleverly and reasonably ed into the articles to make the plot twists and turns vividly. After reading this novel, my heart only has two words:moved.Although oliver's childhood was difficult and difficult, he was also lucky because so many good people were helping him. Many of thekind-hearted people in this article did not abandon oliver to the den of thieves, but believed him and helped him from the beginning to the end.Oliver entered the den several times and was forced to take part in thefts and robberies, but his heart had been good, and he had not beeninfected by that bad climate.I thought that oliver's self-rejection and "silt and undying" had to do with the help of good samaritans.Their sincere care and care made oliver feel the warmth and love of the world, which led him to fight bravely and resolutely against evil.Throughout the whole novel, the power of love, the warmth of the world, the message that justice will triumph over evil.It tells people to distinguish between good and evil, to tell people to understand love, to love others, to tell people that there is love, justice and kindness, and to read the book of "oliver twist".I think I don't have to praise the book earlier, I just want to say that it has taught me a lot of things.

The Reflection of Oliver TwistTell the truth, I could not understand this novel well . About five weeks ago ,I watched the same name film which had a deep impression on me . I was touched by the hero from this novel whose name is Oliver Twist . So then I opened the book to read again . Although there were some differences between the film and the novel, it presented the same thing . I feel that all the facts described is to make the real inner sense more thought-provoking.The themes in this novel can be divided two parts–positive and negative aspect. The first positive theme was kind .In this novel ,kind had defeated the evil .Oliver, Nacy and Rose who were all the representatives of the kind . Although they were born in a poor family and grew up in the dark and criminal world .They still kept an unsophisticated world and a kind heart. No matter how hard they were, they never gave up and corrupt. They showed us their gracious quality .In addition , Nacy treated Oliver as her young brother so that she helped and cared him in many situations even she finally killed by his bloody husband for rescuing Oliver. Brown protected Oliver from murdering because he was kind and sympathetic to him. All they were strong due to their kind hearts ,so in the end , they defeated the evil and conquered. It also told us that everyone should have dignified. I admired Oliver’s bravery . while suffering from starvation and malnutrition for a long period of time, Oliver was chosen by the other boys at the orphanage to request more gruel at dinner one night. He begged for some more soup just because he was very hungry. Nobody can do that . The trainee shamed his mother and he revolted against the trainee. Even he was weaker than the trainee when he was caught by the Fagin, he cried and begged them to send the money and books back to Brownlow. He wanted to preserve his dignify and showed his honesty. I was touched by all these behaviors. The another positive theme is about dream and it is important to us. Just like Oliver, he desired a happy life and the dream made him strive. He just want to have a meal which made him no longer hungry . Finally he realized his dreams because he was kind and aspirant .He obtained Brown’s sympathy and caress and adopted by him . Brown let him live a colorful and happy life. In the end of the novel , with the birds singing, flowers blossoming and breeze playing on face, Oliver worn glasses and seated in the bench and read the famous literary book at their garden. This scene meant a happy ending and Oliv er’ s bright future . I felt excited about it .So I firmly believe that I will achieve my goal , if I make my efforts to do it . In most cases, what you believe is what you will become. With all of the symbolism and moral issues represented in Oliver Twist, all seem to come from real events from the life of its author, Charles Dickens. The novels protagonist, Oliver, was a good person at heart surrounded by the filth of the London streets. Filth that Dickens himself was forced to deal with in his everyday life. But through morals and mere chance Oliver becomes a living symbol. He suffered a lot when he was in his childhood. So I believe that he still wanted to reveal the ugly and cruel and poverty society in which children were treated unkindly at that timeObviously, it presented a theme--poverty. Poverty leading to crime and crime resulting in isolation are the other Themes in the novel. The other had the opportunity to observe the residents of the London streets from close quarters. In order to escape the pangs of hunger and shadow of insecurity, the poor children took to lied ,stolen ,cheated .and they did all criminal things what could do . Nacy's story relates the tale of an unfortunate woman who had fallen into the evil hands of Fagin because of her poverty and destitution. She was haunted by her guilt and regretted her presence in the criminal world. However, she felt helpless in the midst of criminals who fail to understand her feelings and offer her no sympathy. She felt isolated from the world arou nd her. We should have a deep contemplation from Nacy ’death.Greed corrupting the soul of the individual is another negative theme taken up by Dickens in Oliver Twist. Mr. Bumble marries Mrs. Corney for her little wealth and position. This decision costs him peace of mind and independence. Later, in connivance with his wife, he sells Oliver's identity to Monks for a mere twenty five pounds. In the process he sells his soul and suffers the consequences of his act. Fagin decides to make Oliver a thief out of greed for wealth offered to him by Monks. An innocent boy becomes a puppet in the hands of ruthless people. The parochial management of the workhouse treat Olive no better. They sell him to Mr. Sowerberry for five pounds. Dickens turns his anger against these greedy managers and ruthless individuals who harm the life of a boy like Oliver to satisfy their greed, thus corrupting their own souls.By sobbing and pleading people ,Oliver deeply moved the readers. I can image that his face covered by tears and b egged ,“please, please ,help me ,help me !” this is a symbol result of our unjust and poor society . if the living standard in a high level and society runs in a harmonious order, the children like Oliver all will live happy. So the world is dirty but we must maintain a pure soul. Everyone should devote himself to the world and in that way our world will become nice . We must value our present conditions ,study hard and become a useful person for the society as well as make contribution to the society.。
