新高考高三英语时文阅读精选(含答案解析)

新高考高三英语时文阅读精选(含答案解析)新高考高三英语时文阅读精选(含答案解析)AClimate protection and public health have striking similarities. The benefits of both can be enjoyed by everyone, even by individuals who do not contribute to the collective efforts to address these problems. If climate change slows down, both drivers of gas-guzzlers and electric cars will benefit — although the former did not help in climate efforts. Similarly, if the spread of Coronavirus is halted, individuals who refused to wash their hands, as well as the ones who washed them assiduously, will enjoy the restored normal life. Most countries have gotten their acts together, although behind time, on Coronavirus. Citizens also seem to be following the advice of public health officials. Could then the Coronavirus policy model be applied to climate change? We urge caution because these crises are different, which means that policies that worked well for Coronavirus might not be effective for climate change.Climate change is the defining crisis of our times. Floods, hurricanes, forest fires, and extreme weather events have become more frequent and severe over the years. Although climate change generates passionate discussions in big cities and university campuses, there is inadequate public call for immediate action. Some types of decarbonization policies are certainly in place. However, carbon-intensive lifestyles continue. This policy lethargy (无精打采) and behavioral inertia (惰性) are due to many reasons, including concerted opposition by the fossil fuel industry to deep decarbonization. But there are otherreasons as well. Climate change is cumulative and does not have a quick onset. Its effects are not always immediate and visible. Many individuals probably do not see a clear link between their actions and the eventual outcome. This reduces the willingness to alter lifestyles and tolerate personal sacrifices for the collective good.In contrast, Coronavirus is forcing an immediate policy response and behavioral changes. Its causality is clear and its onset quick. Lives are at stake, especially in western countries. The stock markets are tanking, and the economy is heading towards a recession. Politicians recognize that waffling can lead to massive consequences, even in the short-term. Corona-skeptic President Trump has reversed course and declared a national emergency.1. What does the writer think climate protection and public health have in common?A. They can’t be influenced by what people do.B. They only benefit those who contribute to them.C. They usually punish those who do harm to them.D. They offer benefits to everyone whatever people do.2. Which word can take the place of the underlined word “assiduously”?A. Attentively.B. Absolutely.C. Abundantly.D. Alternatively.3. Why are people unwilling to change their carbon-intensive lifestyles?A. Because they think the climate is none of their business.B. Because they think what they do has no effect on theclimate.C. Because they can’t see the quick result from what they do to the climate.D. Because they don’t clearly know how their lifestyles influence the climate.4. Which of the following does the author disagree with?A. President Trump had a skeptic attitude to coronavirus at first.B. Compared with climate change, coronavirus has a quick result.C. People are willing to change their lifestyles because of coronavirus.D. Many countries have responded to coronavirus quickly and effectively.BRobots, Not Humans, Are the New Space Explore rs “Since the days of Apollo, the greatest adventures in space have been these robots that have gone all over the solar system,” says Emily Lakdawalla, a self-described planetary evangelist①at the Planetary Society.By “these robots,” Lakdawalla means the various robotic probes that have flown past planets, moons and asteroids②—orbiting③some, landing on others.Millions of people around the world have watched with delight as the six-wheeled rovers④have trundled across the Martian surface, snapping pictures and taking selfies. At Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., Matthew Shindell says visitors make a point of coming to the planetary exhibit in a gallery tucked into the west end of the museum.Shindell is the museum’s planetary science curator⑤. No human cases have been found in the mainland but, as of Friday, 13 of the country's 31 provinces, autonomous regions (自治区), and municipalities (直辖市) had reported the disease in poultry."It remains a difficult task for China to prevent and control the disease but the government is confident in the fight,"said Vice-Minister of Agriculture Liu Jian.He gave details of a range of measures designed to stop the disease spreading. Poultry within 3km of infected farms is to be killed and those within 5km vaccinated. Meanwhile, there will be constant monitoring (监控) and daily reports on the disease across the country, and increased production of bird flu vaccines.Among the 11 Asian countries and regions affected by bird flu in animals, only Viet Nam and Thailand have reported human cases. The people infected were reported to have caught the disease from poultry. While the World Health Organization (WHO) has said there is "no proof of human-to-human transmission"of bird flu, it admitted that two sisters who died of bird flu in Viet Nam may have caught it from their brother. The big fear is that the disease could combine with a human influenza virus (病毒) to create a deadly new disease that kills millions of people across the globe.Peter Cordingley, spokesman of the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office based in Manila, the Philippines, said that Asian countries affected by bird flu should introduce a more healthy way of raising and selling chickens. Many Asian farmers live closely with their animals and sell live chickens on the market. This greatly increases the possibility of humans being infected with bird flu."They have to completely change their lifestyle and attitude towards animals,"he said. How to stay healthy* Keep fit and well through regular exercise;* A void infected poultry and infected people;* A void eating raw (生的) or under-done poultry and eggs;* Make sure there is good ventilation (通风) in your home;* Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing;* Wash your hands frequently.1. For some restaurant cooks, the most exciting spring arrival is ramps.Ramps are a wild plant in the eastern mountains of North America. They are one of the first plants that grow in the spring, usually between April and May. They are recognized (识别) by their red stem (茎), and two long and wide green leaves. They are also famous for their strong taste, similar to onions (洋葱).Ramps are not as well-known as other vegetables, but they have a long history in the United States. In the Appalachian Mountains, ramps have been an important food for a long time. During spring, it is common for small towns in the Appalachian area to hold large ramp dinners for the community. However, over the last 30 years, ramps popularity has grown quickly. They are now a highly-desired vegetable for many nice restaurants in cities like New York and Washington D.C.One reason the plant is popular is that it grows in the wild. It is difficult to grow them on farms. Most restaurants get them from foragers, who collect ramps by searching forests for some small pieces of land where they grow. Ramps have a short season. Within a few weeks of full growth, the plant is done for the year. This short life is some reason for their popularity. And that popularity could lead to their disappearance from Earth. In 1995, the local Government in Quebec, Canada, stopped people selling the plant to businesses in order to protect the plant against being over-dug.The season is short, but it has not ended yet. This meaning is based on the idea that a person’s spirit and body are s eparate. The spirit can continue existing long after the body has died.During Halloween, kids dressed as ghosts are common sights. The costume is very simple: just throw on a white cloth that covers you from head to foot. But do not expect to win any costume competitions! You would not have a ghost of a chance. People use this expression to mean that something is very unlikely to happen. The sight might even make you turn pale as a ghost. This is used when people lose color in their face. Sometimes this happens when a person is scared. But a bad cold or flu can also turn you as pale as a ghost.“Ghost” can also be a verb. In the 1880s the term ghost meant a person who works in secret for another person. Ghostwriters produce speeches for politicians. They also produce books for authors who want to tell their life stories but are not professional writers. And sometimes ghostwriters are involved in a series of books, like the children’s stories based on the teenage detective Nancy Drew. The series began in 1930. The author given credit was Carolyn Keene. But she was not even real! Ghostwriters did all the work.Another expression using “ghost” as a verb is simply to ghost. This does not mean to die. It means to leave a place or event without saying “goodbye” to anyone. You can ghost from your job. You can ghost from a party. You can even ghost from a relationship. This is when you stop communicating with someone because you are simply no longer interested in them. But I will not ghost from Words and Their Stories.26. The basic meaning of the word “ghost” nowadays is ___________.A. the secret of another personB. the spirit of a dead personC. the color of one’s faceD. the origin of intelligence27.

As people are becoming more socially conscious about where their food comes from and how it impacts the planet, they are choosing animal-free plant-based options. Cow-free meat has been around for quite some time and the popularity of brands like Beyond Meat and cultivated meat from Aleph Farms and others are soaring. While there are a large number of plant-based milk substitutes, none of them have the same taste of cow’s milk. Now, an Israeli food-tech startup Remilk created real dairy products without harming a single cow or the planet. The company stresses that their product Remilk is not a milk substitute but rather is the real deal. Made from a special process called microbial fermentation(微生物发酵), milk is manufactured in a lab instead of in a cow. And the end product is very healthy. “In a very simple way, we take the gene that encodes(编码)for the milk protein,” said Aviv Wolff, CEO of Remilk. “The gene functions as an instruction book for theproduction of the protein it encodes. And so, we insert the gene into a microbe that we’ve developed and it instructs our microbe to produce the specific protein in a very efficient way.”The company says that the lab-produced milk tastes identical to the real thing and they hope to eventually replace cows by creating every dairy product sold. They expect to roll out plant-based cheese and yogurt in addition to milk. “Remilk was founded with the mission to stop using animals to produce our food because, as dairy lovers, we realize that giving up on milk is not an opt ion,” Wolff said. “But today’s milk comes with an unreasonable price tag. The dairy industry is destructive to our planet, our health, and our animals, and is simply not sustainable anymore.”The environmental price tag of dairy farming is way too high. According to the World Wildlife Fund, dairy cows add a huge amount of greenhouse gasses to the atmosphere and contribute to global warming and climate change as well as foul the air around them. Dairy operations consume large amounts of water and run-off of manure(粪肥)and fertilizers from these farms get into local waterways. The production of Remilk uses only 5 percent of the resources and produces only 1 percent of the waste of producing cow’s milk according to the company. Andthey accomplish this by being 100 percent cruelty-free unlike dairy farms.1. What distinguishes Remilk from other milk substitutes?A. It enjoys broad popularity.B. It has the highest output.C. It comes in various flavours.D. It tastes the same as cow’s milk.2. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?A. The production of Remilk.B. The nutritional value of Remilk.C. 新高考高三英语时文阅读精练(含答案解析)新高考高三英语时文阅读精练(含答案解析)AThe new coronavirus (新冠病毒) is the third to have jumped from animals to humans in the 21st century. Here’s what we know about these modern viruses, how they have spread, and how public health systems have responded.A family of viruses that can also cause the common coldSARS, MERS, and Covid-19 are all infections caused by members of a group of viruses called coronaviruses. “Coronaviruses ar e a family of viruses which can cause a variety of diseases in humans and animals, typically illnesses related to breathing in humans,” explains S. Wesley Long. Three different coronaviruses cause up to a third of all cases of the common cold, he adds. Viruses that have never before been known to infect humans typically are more virulent, meaning they are more likely to make people sick. “When they make the jump to humans, our preexisting immunity (免疫力) is low,” explains Eric Cioe-Pena.Related but differentLike members of any extended family, MERS, SARS, and Covid-19 also have different personalities that affect how they behave in public. MERS had the highest death rate at about 35 percent, followed by SARS at 10 percent. So far, Covid-19 has the lowest death rate, currently estimated between 2 and 3 percent, says Dr. Long. But Covid-19 is transmitted between humans much more efficiently than either SARS or MERS, which helps explain why it has traveled so much faster than its two modern predecessors. What have we learned?Any new epidemic will disrupt public health systems, no matter how complicated. There are just too many unknowns. Covid-19 is moving so fast that public health officials are struggling to keep testing guidelines up to date. While researchers are making progress toward a vaccine (疫苗), we’re at least a year away from having one ready for public use. Some of the most basic strategies are still the most effective. Isolating sick patients at home, closing schools, and limiting travel can help slow the spread.1. What kind of disease can the coronavirus cause?A. Heart disease.B. Lung disease.C. Skin disease.D. Liver disease.2. What does the underlined word “virulent” mean?A. Deadly.B. Mild.C. Universal.D. Controllable.3. What is special about Covid-19?A. It can spread very quickly.B. Its death rate is the highest.C. It has the fewest infections.D. It is caused by coronavirus.4. What can we learn from the text?A. The vaccine can be put into use immediately.B. The virus will reduce the human body immunity.C. Human beings have a complete grasp of this virus.D. The three viruses have exactly the same characteristics.【答案】1-4 BAAB【解析】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了21世纪从动物传染给人类的三种病毒(SARS, MERS 和Covid-19)的相关知识。

高考时文阅读(passages 7-8)Passage 7 New road for peace? It seems that nothing is ever easy in the Middle East, and the road to peace for Israel and Palestine is no different. But, with a new Palestinian prime minister in place on April 23, the US has seen a new chance to put into place its "road map" for peace.By May 5, the Palestinians had accepted the plan, but Israel still wanted major changes to be made. The latest fighting between the two states began in September 2000. Over the past 31 months, thousands of Palestinians and Israelis have been killed and injured. Israel and Palestine have fought against each other since Israel created its own state in 1948. When Israel won the 1967 war, it gained control of East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza. Since then, the Palestinians have demanded these three areas be part of their state.Mahmoud Abbas became Palestine's new prime minister after Palestinian leader Yasir Arafat was forced to agree to share his power. Both the US and Israel had refused to enter into peace talks with Arafat, whom they consider unreliable (不可靠的).The road map for peace leads in two directions: the safety of Israel and a state for the Palestinians.Three-step planThe plan was written last December by the US, the United Nations, the European Union (欧盟), and Russia.*The first step is to stop the violence (暴力) on both sides. Palestinians would draw up a constitution (宪法) for their government. And Israelis living on land that was once Palestine would not build new homes.*The second step calls for an international conference that draws up the creation of a Palestinian state.*The final step aims for a lasting agreement between Israel and the Palestine, and the support of neighbouring Arab states (阿拉伯国家).UncertaintyUS officials hope that both sides will follow the road to peace by 2005.But to take the first step will be no easy task. Hours before the plan was announced, a suicide bomber (自杀爆炸者) killed himself and three others in Tel Aviv, Israel. The next day, 12 Palestinians were killed and 15 others were injured in an attack by the Israeli army on Gaza City. In other recent fighting in Gaza City on May 8, four more Palestinians were killed. The Palestinians say that the two sides should be taking steps at the same time. But Israel demands the first step must be an end to Palestinian violence. In the face of such disagreement, many analysts (分析家) don't believe the plan can ensure a peaceful future in the Middle East.1.What is the main point of this story?A. The fighting between Israel and Palestine.B. The long process (进程) for Israel and Palestine to achieve peace.C. New chance and plan for peace in the Middle East.D. International efforts to bring peace to the Middle East.2. What lies at the root of the conflicts (冲突) between Israel and Palestine?A. Israelis and Palestinians have different beliefs.B. Israelis live on land that once belonged to Palestinians.C. The founding of Israel.D. Disagreement on how to bring about peace.3. Which of the following is not true?A. Israel and Palestine haven't taken steps to work for peace at the same time.B. A new leader in Palestine has brought new hope.C. Part of the "road map" is to settle the disagreement between Israel and Palestine.D. Israel and Palestine have different views about the new plan.4. Which side do you think the writer is on?A. Israel's.B. Palestine's.C. Analysts'.D. None of the above.Passage 8 Trapping the cat?He has lived through countless dangers but time may be running out for the Palestinian (巴勒斯坦) leader, Yasser Arafat. On September 11, Israel (以色列) announced its decision to remove him, following several Palestinian suicide bomb attacks on Israel. "He should take some responsibility for the killings," an Israeli official said. "He has done nothing to stop the terrorist groups."But the decision has angered many other countries. China said that Arafat is the true leader, elected by the Palestinian people, and removing him would harm the peace in the Middle East. This view is shared by other governments.Arafat himself said: "They can kill me, but never get me out of my country." He has spent most of his life in danger as the chief target (目标) of Israel. But, just like a cat with nine lives, Arafat escaped every time. For years he has made a practice of sleeping in a different bed each night, thinking a moving target is harder to hit.In 1985, Israel sent fighter planes to kill Arafat. The wild bombing destroyed his old headquarters (总部) in Tunis but Arafat himself was unhurt. In 1992, the aircraft in which he was flying over north Africa broke in two during a crash landing. The crew was killed but he managed to remain alive. What is so unbelievable is that he always remains calm in great danger.Israeli tanks and helicopters attacked his headquarters in Ramallah in December, 2001.When they saw the attackers coming, Arafat's bodyguards ignored his orders to stay still and carried him to safety underground. Seconds later, several bombs exploded nearby. Though safe, his bodyguards were so scared they were soaked in sweat. But Arafat, with Israeli tanks only 200 metres away, showed no fear at all. He stayed in the damaged office, contacting foreign leaders in hope of preventing further attacks from Israel. All these experiences have made him a mysterious man, and one of the world's most legendary (传奇式的) leaders. But has he used up the last of his nine lives? Only time will tell.1. What is the main idea of the story?A. Arafat was in danger again after Israel's decision to remove him.B. Arafat faced dangers without fear.C. Arafat was one of the most legendary leaders in the world.D. Arafat may have used up the last of his nine lives.2. Which is not one of the reasons that Arafat managed to live through countless dangers?A. Luck.B. He was very careful.C. He kept a clear head in danger.D. He had mysterious powers.3. What does the boldfaced word "scared" in the last paragraph but three mean?A. Glad.B. Frightened.C. Feeling lucky.D. Worried.4. Arafat's answer to Israeli decision showed ______.A. that he wasn't afraid of dangerB. his determination to stay in his own countryC. that he has belief in himselfD. both A and Bkeys:Passage 7 1. C 2. B 3. C 4. D巴以冲突由来已久,"和平路线图"能否顺利实施。

高中英语时文阅读七
Device gives new meaning to the idea of power walking Electrical devices could soon use power made by human energy. Scientists say they have developed an experimental device that produces electricity from the physical movement of a person walking. British scientist Max Donelan and other scientists in Canada and the United States developed the device.
The device connects to a person’s knee. As the person walks, the device captures energy each time the person slows down. To do this, the device assists with the slowing down movement of the leg. The movements of the walking person push parts of a small machine that produces electricity. Using the device, an adult walking quickly could produce thirteen watts of electricity in just a minute. Mr. Donelan says walking at that speed could produce enough power to operate a laptop computer for six minutes.
There are several possible uses for the device. Developers say it could help people who work in areas without electricity to operate small computers or wireless telephones. The device could also be used to operate life-saving health devices like heart pacemakers. It could even be used to assist in the movement of robotic arms and legs.
The experimental version of the device currently weighs about one and a half kilograms. It is too costly for most people to buy. But the researchers hope to make a lighter, less costly version. Mr. Donelan says an improved version should be ready in one year.
The researchers also hope that soldiers could use the device. The machine could supply power to electronic devices with a battery that would regain power as the soldier walked.
The developers hope the device will one day help developing countries. Nearly twenty-five percent of people around the world live without electric power.
A similar product was invented in 2005 by Larry Rome of the University of Pennsylvania. He created a bag carried on a person’s back that also produces
power from walking. The knee device does not produce as much electricity as the bag. But the bag requires the walker to carry a load of twenty to thirty kilograms.
