Shylock
He earned a living by usury charge highinterest, on the surface, he is mercenary,cunning, rvengeful, greedy,stubborn, and very unpopular in the city.
One of the play’s great ironies is that Antonio ends up alone.

As the Duke is wondering what to do, Nerissa, dressed like a lawyer's clerk, arrives with a letter from the famous lawyer whom Portia has visited.
