Some have been teachers all their lives. Some devote their life energy to scientific research. Such people love their work and turn out to be specialists in their own field. They are usually high achievers. Some are different. They are in the habit of job-hopping, for they always pursue what is new and stimulating. They never seem content with their present situation. Some like to meet more people, make more money and new acquaintances, so they hop from job to job.As far as I am concerned, I want to be professionally strong. I am not in favor of frequent job hopping, as the saying goes Jack of all trades, master of none. A businessman wishes to make greater profit; a farmer expects plumper harvests; a student tries to learn more and better. And However, one should be sensible about whether his ideal is well founded or not. If it is, one has to plan and work hard for its realization. Effort, skill and persistence are all necessary. And very often, one has to get help from others, including advice and support in one form or another. My ideal is to become a doctor. It is said that the field of medicine is a well-paid profession, but I take it as a lofty profession entrusted with saving people’s lives. To realize my ideal I have concentrated on laboratory work to develop the analytical skills necessary to become a qualified doctor. That was the question that worried the British economist John Maynard Keynes when he wrote his short essay “Economic Possibilities for Our Grandchildren” in 1930. Over the next century, he predicted, the economy would become so productive that people would barely need to work at all. For a while, it looked like Keynes was right. In 1930 the average working week was 47 hours in the United States. But by 1970, the number of hours Americans worked on average had fallen to slightly less than 39.B) But then something changed. Instead of continuing to decline, the duration of the working week remained stable. It has stayed at just below 40 hours for nearly five decades. So what happened? Why are people working just as much today as in 1970?C) There would be no mystery in this if Keynes had been wrong about the power of technology to increase the economy’s productivity, which he thought would lead to a standard of living “between four and eight times as high as it is today.” But Keynes got that right: Technology has made the economy massively more productive. According to Benjamin M. Friedman, an economist at Harvard, the U.S. economy is right on track to reach Keynes’s eight-fold (八倍) multiple by 2029. That is a century after the last data Keynes would have had access to.D) In a new paper, Friedman tries to figure out why that increased productivity has not translated into increased leisure time. Perhaps people just never feel materially satisfied, always wanting more money to buy the next new thing. This is a theory that appeals to many economists. “This argument is, at best, far from sufficient,” he writes. If that were the case, why did the duration of the working week decline in the first place?E) Another theory Friedman considers is that, in an era of ever fewer settings that provide effective opportunities for personal connections and relationships, people may place more value on the socializing that happens at work. There is support for this theory. Many people today consider colleagues as friends. But Friedman argues that the evidence for this theory is far from conclusive. Many workers report that they would like to spend more time with family, rather than at work. Furthermore, this theory cannot explain the change in trend in the U.S. working week in the 1970s.F) A third possibility proves more convincing for Friedman. That is: American inequality means that the gains of increasing productivity are not widely shared by everyone. In other words, most Americans are too poor to work less. Unlike the other two explanations Friedman considers, this one fits chronologically (按年代). Inequality declined in America during the period following World War II, along with the duration of the working week. But since the early 1970s it has risen dramatically.G) Keynes’s prediction of a shorter working week rests on the idea that the standard of living would continue rising for everyone. But Friedman says that this is not what has happened. Although Keynes’s eight-fold figure holds up for the economy as a whole, it is not at all the case for the median (中位数的) American worker. For them, output by 2029 is likely to be around 3.5 times what it was when Keynes was writing. This is a bit below his fourto eight-fold predicted range.H) This can be seen in the median worker’s income over this time period, complete with a shift in 1973 that fits in precisely with when the working week stopped shrinking. According to Friedman, between 1947 and 1973 the average hourly wage for normal workers (those who were not in management roles) in private industries other than agriculture nearly doubled in terms of what their money could buy. But by 2013 the average hourly wagefor ordinary workers had fallen 5 percent from the 1973 level in terms of actual purchasing power. Thus, though American incomes may have gone up since 1973, the amount that American workers can actually buy with their money has gone down. For most Americans, then, the magic of increasing productivity stopped working around 1973. Thus, they had to keep working just as much in order to maintain their standard of living.I) What Keynes predicted was a very optimistic version of what economists call technological unemployment. This is the idea that less labor will be necessary because machines can do so much. In Keynes’s vision, the resulting unemployment would be distributed more or less evenly across society in the form of increased leisure. But Friedman says that, for Americans, reality is much darker. Americans now have a labor market in which millions of people—those with fewer skills and less education —are seeking whatever poorly paid work they can get. This is confirmed by a recent poll that found that, for half of hourly workers, their top concern is not that they work too much but that they work too little. This is most likely not because they like their jobs so much. Rather, we can assume it is because they need the money.J) This explanation leaves an important question. If the very rich—the workers who have reaped above-average gains from the increased productivity since Keynes’s time—can afford to work less, why do they continue to work so much? (Indeed, research has shown that the highest earners in America tend to work the most.) Friedman believes that for many top earners, work is a labor of love. They are doing work they care about and are interested in, and doing more of it is not necessarily a burden. For them, it may even be a pleasure. These top earners derive meaning from their jobs and work is an important part of how they think of themselves. And, of course, they are compensated for it at a level that makes it worth their while.K) Friedman concludes that the prosperity (繁荣) Keynes predicted is here. After all, the economy as a whole has grown even more brilliantly than he expected. But for most Americans, that prosperity is nowhere to be seen. And, as a result, neither are those shorter working weeks.36. Some people view socializing at the workplace as a chance to develop personal relationships.37. As ordinary American workers’ average hourly pay had decreased despite increasing productivity, they had to work just as many hours as before to keep their living standards.38. American workers’ average weekly working time has not changed for nearly half a century.39. Friedman believes inequality in the U.S. largely explains why increasing productivity has not resulted in reduced working hours. 40. Many economists assume people’s thirst for material things has prevented them from enjoying more leisure time.41. An economist’s prediction about a shorter average working week seemed to be correct for a time in the 20th century.42. In the U.S. labor market, the primary concern of people with less schooling and fewer skills is to secure any employment even if it is low-paid.43. Keynes was right in predicting that technology would make the economy much more productive.44. Many of the highest earners have a keen interest in and love for what they are doing.45. According to Keynes, there would be a shorter working week with everyone’s standard of living continuing to rise.Section CDirections:There are 2 passages in this section. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A), B), C) and D). You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on Answer Sheet 2 with a single line through the centre.Passage OneQuestions 46 to 50 are based on the following passage.Lao Zi once said, “Care about what other people think and you will always be their prisoner.”People-pleasing, or seeking self-worth through others’ approval, is unproductive and an exhausting way to go through life. Why do we allow what others think of us to have so much power over how we feel about ourselves? If it’s true that you can’t please all people all of the time, wouldn’t it make sense to stop trying?Unfortunately, sense often isn’t driving our behavior. For social beings who desire love and belonging, wanting to be liked, and caring about the effect we have on others, is healthy and allows us to make connections. However, where we get into trouble is when our self-worth is dependent upon whether we win someone’s approval or not. This need to be liked can be traced back to when we were children and were completely dependent on others to take care of us: Small children are not just learning how to walk and communicate, they are also trying to learn how the world works. We learn about who we are and what is expected of us based on interactions with others, so, to a four-year-old, if Mommy or Daddy doesn’t like him or her, there is the danger that they will abandon them. We need to understand that when we desperately want someone to approve of us, it’s being driven by that little kid part of us that is still terrified of abandonment. As you become more capable of providing yourself with the approval you seek, your need for external validation will start to vanish, leaving youstronger, more confident, and yes, happier in your life. Imagine how much time we lose each moment we restrain our authenticselves in an effort to be liked. If we base our worth on the opinions of others, we cheat ourselves of the power to shape our experiences and embrace life not only for others but also for ourselves, because ultimately, there is no difference. So embrace the cliché(老话) and love yourself as it’s highly doubtfulthat you’ll regret it.46. What can we conclude from Lao Zi’s quotation?A) We should see through other people’s attempt to make a prisoner of us.B) We can never really please other people even if we try as hard as we can.C) We can never be truly free if taking to heart others’ opinion of us.D) We should care about other people’s view as much as they care about our own.47. What will happen if we base our self-worth on other people’s approval?A) Our desire to be loved will be fulfilled.B) Our life will be unfruitful and exhausting.C) Our identity as social beings will be affected.D) Our sense of self will be sharpened and enhanced.48. What may account for our need to be liked or approved of?A) Our desperate longing for interactions with others.B) Our understanding of the workings of the world.C) Our knowledge about the pain of abandonment.D) Our early childhood fear of being deserted.49. What can we do when we become better able to provide ourselves with the desiredapproval?A) Enjoy a happier life.B) Exercise self-restraint.C) Receive more external validation.D) Strengthen our power of imagination.50. What does the author advise us to do in the last paragraph?A) Embrace life for ourselves and for others.B) Base our worth on others’ opinions.C) See our experiences as assets.D) Love ourselves as we are.Passage TwoQuestions 51 to 55 are based on the following passage. Some people have said aging is more a slide into forgetfulness than a journey towards wisdom. However, a growing body of research suggeststhat late-in-life learning is possible. In reality, education does an aging brain good.Throughout life, people’s brains constantly renovate themselves. In the late 1960s, British brain scientist Geoffrey Raisman spied growth in damaged brain regions of rats through an electron microscope; their brains were forging new connections. This meant brains may change every time a person learns something new.Of course, that doesn’t mean the brain isn’t affected by the effects of time. Just as height usually declines over the years, so does brain volume: Humans lose about 4 percent every decade starting in their 40s. But that reduction doesn’t necessarily make people think slower; as long as we are alive and functioning, we can alter our brains with new information and experiences. In fact, scientists now suspect accumulating novel experiences, facts, and skills can keep people’s minds more flexible. New pathways can strengthen our ever-changing mental structure, even as the brain shrinks.Conventional fixes like word puzzles and brain-training apps can contribute to mental durability. Even something as simple as taking a different route to the grocery store or going somewhere new on vacation can keep the brain healthy.A desire for new life challenges can further boost brainpower. Research about aging adults who take on new enterprises shows improved function and memory as well as a reduced risk of mental disease. Openness —a characteristic defined by curiosity and a desire for knowledge—may also help folks pass brain tests. Some folks are born with thistake-in-theworld attitude, but those who aren’t as genetically gifted aren’t necessarily out of luck. While genes can encourage an interest in doing new things, a 2012 study in the journal Psychology and Aging found completing reasoning tasks like puzzles and number games can enhance that desire for novel experiences, which can, in turn, refresh the brain. That’s why brain scientist Richard Kennedy says “It’s not that old dogs can’t learn new tricks. It’s that maybe old dogs don’t realize why they should. ”51. What do some people think of aging adults?A) Their wisdom grows as time goes by.B) Their memory gradually deteriorates.C) They can benefit from late-in-life learning.D) They are likely to have mental health issues.52. What can we conclude from Geoffrey Raisman’s finding?A) Brain damage seriously hinders one’s learning.B) Brain power weakens slower than we imagine.C) Brains can refresh and improve with learning.D) Brains forge connections under new conditions.53. What is one thing that helps maintain the health of our brain even as it shrinks?A) Doing daily routines by conventional means.B) Avoiding worrying about our mental durability.C) Imitating old dogs’ way of learning new tricks.D) Approaching everyday tasks in novel ways.54. What does the author say can contribute to the improvement of brain function?A) Being curious and desiring knowledge.B) Being eager to pass brain tests at an old age.C) Rising to life’s challenges and avoiding risks.D) Boosting immunity to serious mental diseases.55. What is the finding of the 2012 study in the journal Psychology and Aging?A) Wishing to solve puzzles enhances one’s reasoning power.B) Playing number games unexpectedly stimulates one’s memory.C) Desiring new experiences can help to renovate the brain.D) Learning new tricks should not be confined to old dogs only.Part Ⅳ Translation (30 minutes)Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to translate a passage from Chineseinto English. For instance, it helps him to realize that no success comes from nothing. It enables him to be independent and builds up his self-confidence. Therefore, part-time jobs can get the students out of the ivory tower and give them the opportunity to know more of himself and of his personal value in society. As everything has two sides, the disadvantages can’t be ignored. Part-time jobs cut into students’ study time; some even become so preoccupied with making money that they ca ‘t focus their attention on studying. In the end, the students may fall behind or fail in their studies. In my opinion, students can choose to take up a job according to their own situation. The most important thing is for him to keep a good balance, put his study on top of the list and assign an adequate amount of time to it. Today, it seems that nearly everyone is studying English, especially students. But what do they study English for? A survey made by a teacher at a university gives us some hints. The results of the survey suggest that students need English for different purposes. Most students learn English because they need to read English textbooks or journals or attend English lectures, while only a few students use it to talk to Englishspeaking write letters, etc. There are also some differences between economics students and engineering students. Compared with engineering students, economics students need to read English business textbooks and write reports in English. Therefore, from the result of the survey,we can see that the purposes students learn English for vary with the academic field students study in. Whatever the purposes are, one thing is certain: Students need English, and English teaching should be strengthened in universities. Our lives are guided by natural rhythms that are particular to each of us and cannot be altered by force of will alone. Life itself is a journey made up of processes and events that manifest before us only to be swept away when time marches on. Whether we envision ourselves creating a career, building a family, or developing the self, we instinctively know when the time has come for us to realize our dreams because all that is involved comes together harmoniously. When the time is right, the passage of destiny cannot be blocked. Yet as desperate as we are to touch these beautiful futures we have imagined, we cannot grow if we are not fully present inthe evolutionary experience. The present can be challenging, uncomfortable, and tedious, but life unfolds as it will, and the universe will wait patiently as we make our way into the unknown. The fate that awaits us is not dependent on our pace, which was preordained before we ever appeared in human guise. Therefore there is no reason to rush through life to reach those pinnacles of development associated with the paths we have chosen. Enjoying and fully experiencing the journey of life is as important as achieving goals and reaching milestones. There are lessons we can learn during those moments that seem immaterial or insignificant that we cannot learn at any other time. Appreciating these takes patience, however, because human beings tend to focus on the fulfillment of expectations rather than the simple joys of being.Like many people, you have no doubt longed for a device that would give you the power to fast forward through certain periods of your existence. Yet haste is by its very nature vastly more stressful than serene fortitude. When you feel yourself growing impatient because the pace of your development is deceptively slow, remember that everything that will occur in your life will occur in its own time. Quelling your urge to rush will enable you to witness yourself learning, changing, and becoming stronger. There is so much to see and do in between the events and processes that we deem definitive. If you are patient enough to take pleasure in your existence's unfolding, the journey from one pinnacle to the next will seem to take no time at all. In contemporary society, the topic of the importance of college students' healthy life has received great attention.

Dear Sir or Madam,I hope you are doing well. I am writing to you as a concerned student who has recently experienced some issues while using our school library. I believe that by sharing my observations, we can work together to improve the services offered.Firstly, I would like to address the issue of the librarians' attitude. While they are generally helpful, they often fail to provide clear directions when students inquire about books. This can be frustrating, especially when we are in need of quick answers. Additionally, they tend to lose patience easily, which does not foster a welcoming environment.Secondly, I noticed that the books available in the library are outdated. This is a significant problem as it prevents students from accessing the latest information and developments in their field of study. It is essential to keep the collection up to date to ensure its relevance and usefulness.Lastly, the reading rooms need to be brightened up. Some of the lights are dim or even out of order, which makes it difficult to read comfortably. Adequate lighting is crucial for creating a conducive learning environment. In conclusion, I urge you to consider offering training to the librarians to improve their customer service skills. Furthermore, regular updates to the book collection and prompt repairs to the lighting system would greatly enhance the library's overall experience. By making these changes, we can ensure that the library remains a valuable resource for students and faculty members alike.Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to seeing positive changes in the near future.Sincerely,[Your Name]2. To the Student Union,As an active member of our university community, I am writing to offer some suggestions that I believe would greatly enrich the extracurricular activities offered by our student union.Firstly, I suggest that we organize more cultural events. This could include workshops on various topics such as art, music, and languages. These events would provide students with an opportunity to explore their interests beyond their academic studies and develop a deeperunderstanding of different cultures.Secondly, I propose that we establish a sports club on campus. This club could organize regular sporting events and tournaments that encourage healthy competition and teamwork among students. Sports not only improve physical health but also promote social interaction and team building.Lastly, I suggest that we create a volunteer program. By participating in volunteer activities, students can develop a sense of social responsibility and contribute to the welfare of our community. This program could involve working with local charities, organizations, or even providing assistance to our peers who may be struggling academically or personally. In conclusion, I believe that these suggestions would greatly enhance the extracurricular activities offered by our student union. By providing opportunities for cultural exploration, sports, and volunteer work, we can create a more vibrant and inclusive university community that fosters personal growth and development among its members.Thank you for considering my suggestions. I look forward to seeing our student union thrive and continue to serve the needs of our university community.Sincerely,[Your Name]。

In the multifaceted tapestry of life, resilience and adaptation emerge as two inextricably intertwined threads, guiding us through uncharted territories and empowering us to navigate the unpredictable currents of change. Resilient individuals possess an unwavering capacity to rebound from adversity, while adaptability enables them to adjust and thrive in evolving circumstances.Resilience, akin to an unyielding willow, bends with the force of life's challenges but never breaks. Resilient individuals embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and learning, recognizing that setbacks are temporary and do not define their essence. Adaptable individuals embrace the fluidity of life, understanding that nothing remains static and that changeis an inevitable part of the human experience. They are agile thinkers who can quickly identify new opportunities and pivot as needed, seizing the initiative in uncertain times. The synergy between resilience and adaptability creates an unyielding force that propels us forward, enabling us to thrive in a world characterized by constant evolution and upheaval.

1Nowadays with the ever rapid development and increasing popularity of the information technology , shopping on the internet has been a fashion especially among the youngsters.Online shopping has made our daily life more convenient and comfortable. For example , shopping on the internet can save students a great deal of time on the way between home and store, so they would be able to concentrate more time and energy on their academic work. The internet has shorten the distance between manufacturers and consumers and thus we can even buy goods in other countries .On the other hand , lack of the face to face deal makes online shopping less reliable and trustworthy. What’ s more the delivery will increase the risk of items’ damage. In my opinion, shopping on the internet is a irreversible trend. More and more people will be accustomed to it. It will be much more popular in the near future. And at the same time we should take some measures to make it perfect. 2Nowadays, with the rapid development of information technology, online shopping has gained great popularity among more and more web users. For example, it is fashionable for youngsters to purchase daily essentials, such as books, clothes, electrical equipment, on some famous website, like Taobao, EBay and Alibaba.Undoubtedly speaking, online shopping has many advantages. Firstly, compared with traditional shopping, it’s very convenient. What you need to do is just clicking your mouse and waiting instead of going out by foot or driving. Secondly, more choices than real store are another attraction to customers. However, in spite of convenience and more choicesof online shopping, we cannot turn a blind eye to its disadvantages. Obviously, quality problem is its first disadvantage. It’s common that articles aren’t so good just as they are described online that customers always buy fake commodities. In addition, it’s troublesome and annoying for many customers to make a change when they are not satisfied with what they bought online. As a college student, I like online shopping but I expected that effective measures should be taken to make it better。

2Nowadays, we are witnessing a surge in technology in all aspects. People’s views vary greatly on whether this trend are causing people’s addiction. In my point of view, being immersed in a sea of technology will definitely harm people’s life, even make them become addicted. For one thing, despite the fact that some technologies, are invented to help people, many of them are made to attract people’s attention and make profit. Unaware of this, one would easily get trapped in the world of technology, like computer technology, and lose himself. For another, since most of us are living in a highly digitalized society, few can escape from the influence of their friends and families who are already addicts to technology. All in all, without strict government restriction and proper guidance on computer technology, people are exposed to the risk of being addicted.

1The Big Bad English TestHello! My name is Johnny and I'm 10 years old. I love playing soccer and video games with my friends. But this year, I had to take a really tough English test called the CET4. It was super hard! Let me tell you all about it.In June 2023, it was time for the CET4 exam. CET4 stands for College English Test Band 4. It's a big important test that you have to pass to graduate from university in China. Even though I'm just a kid, my mom made me take a practice test to get ready. She said it would be good experience. I wasn't too excited about it at first, but then I thought hey, maybe it will be kind of fun!The test had four sections - listening, reading, writing and translation. We started with the listening part. The nice lady's voice on the recording was pretty easy to understand at first. She was talking about everyday stuff like shopping and making friends. But then it got way harder with conversations about science and business. My ears were ringing by the end! After that was the reading section. We had to read really long passages on topics like environmental protection, exciting new technologies, and classic literature stories. There were so many big fancy words that I'd never heard before. My brain felt like mush after pushing through all those readings. Then came the writing section - the part I was dreading the most. We had to write a short essay of about 200 words, which doesn't sound too bad. But the question was super hard! It said "These days more and more young people are aspiring to start their own businesses instead of seeking employment at established companies. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this?" How is a 10-year-old kid supposed to know about that stuff?! I just wrote about how I wanted to start a lemonade stand business when I grow up.The last part was translation, where we had to translate passages from Chinese into English and vice versa. I thought translating from Chinese to English would be easy for me, since I'm a native Chinese speaker. But there were so many idioms, proverbs and chengyu (those four-word sayings) that were impossible to directly translate. My English vocabulary wasn't good enough to capture the real meanings. Going from English to Chinese wasn't much easier - there were so many weirdEnglish phrases and cultural references that just didn't make sense to me. By the end, my brain was like a fried egg!Even though the CET4 was crazy difficult, I'm really glad I got to practice it. It showed me how much I still have to learn about English. It also showed me that tests can be篇2My Trip to the Big Test DayYay! Today was the day I took the big English test called the CET-4 exam. It was super exciting and I had to wake up really really early.First thing in the morning, I brushed my teeth and got dressed in my lucky clothes - blue shorts with race cars on them and my favorite Superman t-shirt. Then I had a big breakfast to give me energy. I ate two bowls of chocolate rice krispies cereal with lots of sugar and a big glass of orange juice. My mom said I shouldn't have so much sugar before the test but I told her I needed fuel for my brain engines! After breakfast, we drove to the test center. There were so many people there, it looked like a big crowd at a concert or something. We had to park really far away and walk a longdistance. Good thing I had my race car shoes on so I could run fast! When we got inside, there were signs everywhere pointing which way to go. It felt like a maze, but finally we found the room where I would take the test. The room was giant and had rows and rows of little desks. My desk had a prompt sheet on it and a few pencils. The pencils were fresh and really sharp. I gave one of them a few practice taps on the desk and it made a nice strong sound. I was ready to go!Soon the teachers came in and told everyone to be quiet and put our pencils down. One of the teachers was an oldgrumpy-looking man with a bald head and thick glasses. He looked really serious and I thought he might yell at us if we made any noise. I decided I better be on my best behavior. Then the head teacher explained all the rules in a loud booming voice. We couldn't talk at all during the whole test, couldn't leave the room unless it was an emergency, and had to keep our eyes on our own papers. It sounded just like the rules my teachers give for tests at school. Easy peasy! Finally it was time to start the writing section. The instructions said to write a response to the prompt about anexperience that taught me an important lesson. Hmmmm what should I write about?I started tapping my pencil as I thought. Oh! I knew the perfect thing to write about! A couple months ago, I was playing basketball in the driveway and keeping score in my head. But then I got distracted and lost track of the score. I got really frustrated and angry and starting crying. That's when my dad came out and gave me a serious talk. He said I shouldn't get so worked up about little things and need to stay calm, because getting upset and mad doesn't help solve any problems. It's much better to take a deep breath and relax. Dad's advice really stuck with me and helped me chill out in other situations after that too.So I wrote all about that experience for my essay, using lots of descriptive words to make it really come alive. I wrote about the hot summer day, the basketball bouncing on the driveway, and how mad I was feeling when the tears started coming. Then I explained what my dad told me about staying calm and breathing deeply. For the conclusion I wrote about times after that when I remembered to relax instead of getting upset. The whole essay took up three full pages! My hand was getting a little sore from all that writing but I was really proud of my work.Pretty soon, the teacher announced that the writing portion was over and it was time for the listening part. This is where we had to listen to recordings and answer multiple choice questions. The teachers passed out special pencils for filling in the bubble sheets. Mine had a cool pattern with yellow and blue swirls on it. As long as I paid close attention, this listening part shouldn't be too hard. And then after listening, it was time for the reading part. This was a bunch of passages and stories that we had to read and then answer questions on what they were about. Some of the passages were pretty long and had fancy words I didn't know, but I did my best reading carefully and thinking about the main points. Some of the stories were pretty interesting and crazy, like one about a man who got struck by lightning seven times! Can you believe that? The guy must have been incredibly unlucky. If that happened to me I'd probably start carrying a lightning rod around everywhere I went. Finally, after reading all those passages and stories and answering what felt like a zillion questions, it was over! The head teacher told us to put down our pencils. I was feeling pretty tired by then but also proud for making it through this big importanttest. I had worked really hard studying and it felt great to apply all that knowledge. After turning in our tests, we got to go outside for a break. It was such a nice sunny day that some kids even played a quick game of tag. I just laid on the grass and rested for a bit though, since I was feeling kind of zapped from all that brain work.Soon it was time to line up again for the speaking part of the test. For this part, we had to go one-by-one into a private room and speak to a test grader who recorded our responses. When it was my turn, I went into the little room and there was a nice friendly-looking teacher sitting at a desk. She asked me to describe my favorite person and explain why I look up to them.Immediately I knew I would talk about my Uncle Jerome who is a scientist. I love Uncle Jerome because he is really smart and funny and always plays cool games with me when I visit. Like last time, we made a little rocket out of baking soda and vinegar and launched it hundreds of feet into the air! Uncle Jerome has a great spirit of curiosity and discovery about the world, and he encourages me to explore and ask questions too. We go on nature walks together and he teaches me all about biology and physics using fun examples. I try to be like Uncle Jerome and staycurious and keep studying hard so maybe one day I can be a scientist too.I spoke for about two minutes giving all those details to the grader. She smiled the whole time and I think I did a pretty good job because she gave me a big thumbs up at the end. Yes! Nailed it.After speaking it was finally, finally, FINALLY over! I had completed all sections of the CET-4 exam. What a marathon! I felt like collapsing into a heap on the ground, but instead I gathered what little energy I had left and skipped out to find my mom. I was so proud and excited to tell her all about it!Mom gave me a huge bear hug when she saw me. I could tell she was proud too. We walked back across the campus beneath the warm sunrays, feet crunching on the gravel paths. I felt like a superhero who had gone through an incredible challenge and made it out alive. And I had my lucky Superman shirt partially to thank! In the car on the way home, I dozed off for a bit, dreaming of rocket ships and basketballs and vinegar volcanoes. When we got back home, mom went and picked up a special celebratory treat for me - a banana split sundae from my favorite ice creamparlor! I dug into that delicious sweet creation, feeling happiness wash over me like a tropical wave. All the hard workhad paid off. That's the story of my exciting CET-4 adventure! It was an amazingly memorable day full of challenges and triumphs. Even though it was tough, I felt like a little warrior slaying the exam dragon. And now I can't wait to get my scores back and see how I did. Hopefully my hard work and determined spirit was enough to emerge victorious! No matter what though, I know I gave it my best. And that's a championship effort I canalways be proud of.篇3The Super Awesome 2023 June College Test!Hi everyone! My name is Timmy and I'm 9 years old. I just took the big college English test last month and I can't wait to tell you all about the writing part. Get ready for some serious fun!For the first writing question, we had to write a letter to our future self talking about our hopes and dreams. I wrote that in 10 years I hope I'll be a famous video game designer creating the coolest games ever! I want to make games with talking animals, spaceships, laser blasters, and tons of cool power-ups. I told my future self to never give up on that dream no matter what! The next writing question was to give a speech pretending we were running for class president. I started my speech by promising every day would be Ice Cream Sundae Friday if I got elected. Then I said we'd go on more field trips to awesome places like waterparks, zoos, and arcades. I promised longer recess times andocolate milk in the cafeteria drink machines too. Who wouldn't vote for that?!The last writing part was the most fun. We had to write a short story using our imagination. I wrote about a boy who accidentally got shrunken down to the size of an ant after his scientist dad's invention went haywire. The boy had to go on an epic adventure through the backyard, escaping killer bees, avoiding getting stepped on by the neighbors, and battling the evil dust mites that lived under the porch. It was such a crazy story! To make my story even better, I added in lots of descriptive words to set the scene. I talked about the "towering blades of grass that scraped the sky" and the "fluttering dandelion seeds drifting across the vast wilderness of the lawn." I described dodging "the glistening dew droplets that threatened to drownhim" and seeing the "intricate metropolis of ant tunnels and chambers carved into the dirt." My story was a mini blockbuster movie!I also tried to put in examples of figurative language like metaphors and similes to make my writing more vivid. I described the bees' incessant buzzing as "vengeful hornets patrolling on deadly reconnaissance flights" and said the boy felt "as insignificant as a speck of dirt in the enormity of the great outdoors." I thought those flowery phrases made my story seem more dramatic and exciting. The writing part of the test was so much fun! I got to use my creativity and imagination to the fullest. And I practiced important writing skills like:• Organizing my ideas into a clear structure with an intro, body, and conclusion• Using des criptive adjectives and adverbs to add detail• Trying out figurative language like similes, metaphors, and personification• Writing for different purposes like stories, speeches, and letters• Checking my spelling, grammar, and punctuationI wasn't sure how I did on the test yet, but I gave it my best effort. Writing has always been one of my favorite parts of English class. I just let my ideas run wild and tried to have fun with it!Well, that's the inside scoop on the big writing test, friends! It challenged me but also let me use my creativity. Maybe I'll become a famous author someday and you can buy my books. A kid can dream, right? Thanks for reading my super descriptive essay - I hoped you liked it as much as I liked writing it. Time to go play video games!篇4My Awesome Summer VacationThe summer vacation was finally here! No more teachers, no more books, no more smelly lunchroom. Just three months of pure freedom to do whatever I wanted. This was going to be the best summer ever! The first week I mostly just played video games and slept in late. My mom kept nagging me to go outside and get some fresh air and exercise, but I didn't listen. I was having too much fun blasting aliens and rescuing princesses. Hey, pushing buttons really fast is exercise for your fingers, right? After a while though, even I got a little bored of the same old games. My best friend Tyler came over and we decided to go on an adventure. We packed up some snacks and comic books, hopped on our bikes, and set off to explore the woods behind my house. At first it was really fun. We found a cool looking stick that made a great pretend sword for fighting off evil dragons and ogres. There were lots of bushes to push through and jump over like we were commandos on a secret mission. We even saw a rabbit hopping around and a couple squirrels scurrying up a tree. But then things started to get a little scary. We couldn't find the trail to get back home and the woods just seemed to go on forever, with all the trees looking the same. We tried yelling for help but our voices just got swallowed up by the trees. I started imagining we might have to spend the night out there, surrounded by who knows what kind of wild animals!Just when I thought we might never find our way out, we finally spotted a familiar landmark - the rusty old car body that some idiot had dumped back there years ago. From there, we knew to just head east and we'd run right into my neighborhood. We made it home muddy, exhausted, and totally famished, but glad to be alive! The next few weeks were a blur of fun activities. We went to the community pool almost every day and had epic water bomb battles. My parents took us camping one weekend in the mountains. We roasted marshmallows around the campfire, hiked to a cool waterfall, and best of all, we didn't have any video games or TVs around to distract us.I also went to summer camp for a week at the local rec center. We did all kinds of arts and crafts like making potholders and melting crayons into crazy designs. We played dodgeball and kickball at recess. And we went on a field trip to the science museum downtown, where I got to make a laser show and learn about the planets in the cool Imax theater. But unfortunately, no summer lasts forever. Before I knew it, it was time to start getting ready to go back to school. My mom took me shopping for new clothes and school supplies. We got notebooks, pencils, a new backpack, and even a fancy graphing calculator that could probably launch a space shuttle.I wasn't ready for the lazy days of summer to end, but I actually was a little excited to start 5th grade and see my friends again every day. The final week before school, I helped my mom start going through my summer reading list. I had to read these two books called Where the Red Fern Grows and Island of theBlue Dolphins. They were kind of hard, with a lot of big vocabulary words I didn't know, but the stories were actually pretty interesting once you got into them. Finally, the big day arrived. I laid out my freshly laundered clothes, packed up my backpack, and tried to get to bed early so I wouldn't be a zombie at school in the morning. The next day, my mom made my favorite pancakes for breakfast and I promised her I'd have an awesome year.Well, that's about it for my super fun summer of 2023! I got to have all kinds of incredible adventures, but I'm also ready to start learning new things again. 5th grade, here I come!篇5My Summer Vacation PlansHi everyone! My name is Tommy and I'm 10 years old. I just finished 4th grade and I'm super excited for summer vacation! I have lots of fun plans that I want to tell you all about.First of all, my family is going on a big trip! We are going to drive to Florida to visit my aunt, uncle, and cousins who live there. The drive will take like 2 days because we are coming all the way from California. I don't mind though because I love road trips! We can play games, sing songs, and see cool stuff out the window. My mom packed some books and activities to keep me busy too.In Florida, we are going to do so many fun things! We are going to Disney World and Universal Studios. I'm most excited to go to the Harry Potter land and ride all the roller coasters. I also really want to go swimming with dolphins. How cool would that be?! My cousins live right near the beach too so we can build sandcastles, hunt for seashells, and play in the ocean. We might even go on a pirate ship cruise! Arghh mateys! After we visit my cousins, we are going on a cruise for a week. I've never been on a cruise ship before so I can't wait. There are tons of amazing things on the ship like waterslides, rock climbing, mini golf, movies, and so much food! We get to stop at different islands and go snorkeling and see tropical fish. Maybe we'll even see some sharks (hopefully not too close though)! I'm practicing holding my breath underwater so I can snorkel for a long time. When we get back home from our big trip, I want to take swimming lessons so I can be a really good swimmer by next summer. I'm going to spend a lot of time at our neighborhood pool working on my strokes and diving. My best friend Johnny lives next door so he'll probably be there with me every day. We're going to have awesome swimming races and See who can make the biggest cannon balls! My family also got a new puppy named Rusty a few weeks ago. He's this tiny cute little orange fluffball. Over the summer, I'm going to work on training him to do tricks like shake, roll over, and catch treats. I've been watching puppy training videos to get tips. I hope I can teach him lots of cool tricks by the time school starts back up!Mom said I can also get a job walking our neighbor's dogs in the evenings to make some extra money. I'm going to save up to buy some new video games I want. It will be fun getting to play with a bunch of different dogs every day and being outdoors. Just hopefully they are friendly dogs and don't pull me down the street! At the end of the summer, my family is throwing me a big birthday party for my 11th birthday! I'm so excited. We are going to have it at a trampoline park and all my friends are coming. We'll get to jump around for hours, play dodgeball, and go in the foam pit. After we're tired from jumping, we'll have pizza, cake, and ice cream. It's going to be epic! Those are my big summer plans so far. Of course I'll also have plenty of time to sleep in, chill by the pool, read comics, play video games, and hang out with my friends. Summer is the best time of year! I can't wait for all my adventures to start. This is going to be the funnest summer ever! Well, I'm off to start packing my suitcase. Thanks for reading, catch ya later!篇6Title: My Summer Vacation PlansThis summer, I have really exciting plans! School will be out soon, and I'll have almost three whole months off from classes and homework. That's a very long time to have fun and go on adventures.First, my family is going to take a road trip! We are going to drive far away to a place called the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon is a huge, deep hole in the ground made of red rocks. It was carved out over millions of years by a giant river. My dad says the Grand Canyon is one of the most amazing natural wonders of the world. We are going to hike down into the canyon and camp overnight. I've never been camping before, so I'm a little nervous but also really excited to sleep outside in a tent under the stars. I hope I see some cool animals like elk or coyotes! After our camping trip to the Grand Canyon, we are flying to Hawaii to stay at a beach resort. Hawaii is a group of islands far out in the Pacific Ocean. I've never been to Hawaii before, but I've seen pictures and it looks like paradise. The islands have beautiful sandy beaches, huge waves for surfing, and tons of palm trees. Our hotel is right on the ocean, so we can swim and build sandcastles every day. My mom said we might even get to go snorkeling and see colorful fish! I don't know how to snorkel yet, but I'm going to take a lesson. For one week, we don't have to worry about anything except having fun in the sun. When we get back home from Hawaii, I'm going to baseball camp for two weeks. Baseball is my favorite sport, and I've been playing since I was six years old. At baseball camp, we'll have practice twice per day to work on batting, fielding, base running, and pitching. The coaches are really good former college baseball players, so I know I'll learn a lot of new skills. In the evenings after practice, we'll have big campfires and do fun activities like talent shows. I can't wait to meet kids from all over who love baseball as much as me. Maybe I'll even make some new best friends! For the last part of my summer vacation, I don't have any big trips planned. But that's okay, because I'm going to sleep lateevery day, play lots of video games, and ride my bike to the pool with my neighborhood friends. We'll have Light Saber battles, water balloon fights, and popsicle parties. My mom is going to sign me up for the summer reading program at the library too. If you read a certain number of books, you get a free pizza! I love reading and I love pizza, so I'll definitely do my best.Does this sound like an awesome summer or what? Between our big family trips and my baseball camp and lazy neighborhood days, it's going to be non-stop fun. Summer is finally here and I can't wait for all my adventures to start. No teachers, no homework, no bedtimes - just three full months of fun in the sun! Three...two...one...LET THE SUMMER BEGIN!。

I'm a little bit excited to write about this. You know, I'm just a primary school student, but I want to give it a go.When I heard about this college English test thing, I was really curious. I thought it must be super hard for big brothers and sisters in college. But I still want to write something like it.In our primary school, we also have writing tasks. For example, wewrite about our family. I wrote about how my mom makes the best cookies in the world. I described how she mixes the dough, adds the chocolate chips, and then bakes them until they are golden brown. It was so much fun towrite about it because I could almost smell the cookies while writing. Now, for this "big kid" writing task, I might write about my dreams. I dream of having a big treehouse in my backyard. I would have a little table there, and I could do my homework or read my favorite storybooks. There would be a rope ladder to climb up, and the walls would be painted bluelike the sky.I know my writing is not as good as those college students, but I'm proud that I tried. I hope one day, when I grow up, I can do really well in these kinds of tests.Hey, friends! Let's talk about this special writing for the June CET - 4.I always like to use my imagination when I write. Just like when we write about animals in school. I once wrote about a little rabbit. The rabbit was white as snow, and it had the cutest pink nose. It lived in a hole near a big meadow. Every day, it would hop out to look for carrots. Itwas so much fun to write about it because I could picture the rabbit in my mind. For this CET - 4 writing, I would imagine I'm in a magical world. There are floating islands in the sky. I can fly from one island to another on a big, colorful bird. On each island, there are different things. One island has a forest full of talking trees. They would tell me stories about theold days. Another island has a castle made of ice. It sparkles in the sun.I think writing is like going on an adventure. You can go anywhere you want in your mind. It doesn't matter if it's real or not. Just like when we write about our holidays. I wrote about the time I went to the beach. The sand was warm between my toes, and the waves crashed against the shore. It was so beautiful.I hope my imagination can make my writing interesting, even if it's for this grown - up test.Hello everyone! We're going to talk about the June CET - 4 essay. In school, we learn a lot of things that can help us write. For instance, we learn about different words that describe feelings. When Iwrite about my friends, I use words like "happy" and "funny". I have afriend named Tom. He always makes me laugh. He tells the silliest jokes. Once he told a joke about a monkey wearing a hat, and I couldn't stop laughing. For this CET - 4 writing, I can write about my school. My school has a big playground. There are swings and slides. We run around and play games during break time. The classrooms are bright and clean. The teachers are really nice. They tell us interesting stories and teach us useful knowledge.I can also write about my hobbies. I like drawing. I draw pictures of my family, my pets, and the beautiful scenery outside. I use different colors to make my pictures look alive. I remember when I drew a picture of my cat. I made its fur look so soft with my crayons.I know I'm just a primary school student, but I believe I can write something good for this CET - 4 essay. I'm going to do my best and have fun while writing.。

English:In June 2022, the English CET-4 exam asked students to write an essay on the topic of "The Influence of Social Media on Interpersonal Relationships". In the essay, I discussed how social media has both positive and negative impacts on interpersonal relationships. On one hand, social media has made communication more convenient and efficient, allowing people to stay connected with friends and family despite physical distances. It also provides a platform for people to express themselves, share their thoughts and emotions, and build new relationships. However, on the other hand, social media can also lead to misunderstandings, miscommunication, and even conflicts due to the lack of face-to-face interaction and the prevalence of online negativity and cyberbullying. Therefore, it is important for individuals to use social media responsibly, maintain a balance between online and offline interactions, and prioritize genuine connections based on trust and understanding.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay on the importance of
speaking/writing/reading ability and how to develop it。

You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words。

(一)It cannot be denied(There is no denying/doubt)that reading plays a key role in people’s growth and development in any era(年代)。

The 21th century is a time of knowledge explosion and reading ability becomes increasingly important。

(二)How to develop reading ability? Based on this concrete and meaningful question, some steps should be taken。

First and foremost, the main growth in your reading skill and ability will come from reading as much as you can do。

Try to make a book list that you take interest in and make a practical plan。

Just as the proverb goes that,“Don’t bite off more than one can chew。

”Furthermore, a mastery (掌握精通) of some reading skills is not only
significant, but also indispensable(不可缺少的)。

Some books are fit to do extensive(广泛的) reading while some others are suitable to do intensive reading(精读)。

(In English study, intensive reading must be combined with extensive reading.)Meanwhile, other reading skills like skipping and skimming are also necessary。

(三)To conclude, reading is to humans’ spiritual world what water is to fish。

Only through persistent reading can we enjoy the improvement of reading ability and learning ability。
