科技翻译工作的重要性

英语知识据德国出版的《语言学及语言实际工具问题手册》记载，世界上共有5651种语言，其中1400种没有被公认为独立的语言，有的正在衰亡之中，还有70%的语言没有文字。

目前使用最广泛的有汉语、英语、印地语、俄语、西班牙语、法语、葡萄牙语、阿拉伯语、印尼语、日语和德语等11种。

如果按照科学文献所使用文字的频度排列，它们分别是英语（46%）、俄语（14%）、德语（10%）、法语（9%）、日语（4%）、其他（17%）。

根据联合国教科文组织的资料，现在全部科学文献中大约有二分之一的文献是用50写以上的科学家没有掌握的语言出版的。

技术文献有三分之二是用英语出版的，而世界上有三分之二的工程师不（1962能阅读英语文献。

在列入美国《全国科学技术人员登记表》年）的21. 5万名美国科学家中，约有48%能阅读德语科学文献，39%能阅读法语文献，但只有5. 5%能阅读俄语文献，1.1%能阅读日语文献，0. 6%能阅读汉语文献。

这表明92.8%的美国科学家不能阅读俄文、日文和中文文献，而这些文种的刊物今天占全世界科技文献总数的三分之一左右。

我国历史悠久，翻译事业的发生与发展也同样源远流长。

在我们中华民族与世界各族人民交往历史中，翻译起了不朽的作用。

唐玄奖西域取经回国后专事翻译19载，译出经书75部，一直为后人传为佳话。

科技文章翻译至迟始于明清时期，当时西方科学技术开始输人我国，以徐光启、严复和梁启超为代表的有识之士人工翻译了大量先进的西方科学文献，为传播西方先进科技知识做出了重大贡献。

“五四”运动以后，以鲁迅为首的先进知识分子完成了大批文学翻译著作，对推动我国和西方科技文化交流起了重大作用。

新中国成立以后，翻译服务业进入了一个大发展时期，尤其是改革开放以来，我国与国外的科技交流日益广泛，广大科技人员刻苦攻读外语，阅读国外科技资料，使得翻译这种原先少数人从事的技艺，成为众多人员的多学科领域进行交流活动的重要事业，使翻译事业进人了一个崭新的、空前繁荣的时期。

科技英语的特点与翻译一、科技英语的特点科技英语（English for science and technology，EST）指与用于科学和技术交流方面的英语口语和书面语。

作为一种重要的英语语体，其特点主要体现在以下几个方面。

1、词汇方面大量使用专业词汇、复合词、缩略词及利用前后缀构成的派生词。

专业词汇意义专一，用来表示明确的含义。

科技词汇多源于希腊语和拉丁语，是因为这两种语言作为英语的重要来源，是世界上成熟最早和最完备的语言中的两种，词汇不再发生词形、词义上的变化，具有稳定性。

2、句子方面多使用长句和被动语态，大量使用名词化结构（nominalization）和非限定动词。

名词化结构有利于行文简洁、表达客观、内容确切，也可使所含信息量增大，尤其是科技英语强调存在的事实，而非个别行为。

不定式短语、-ing分词短语和-ed分词短语这三种非限定动词形式具有齐备的语法功能，可代替各种从句，这样既可缩短句子，行文简练，结构紧凑，又比较醒目。
