办年通常是忙年的一项重大工程，一般是母亲早早地就洗好了炸丸子的萝卜、炸藕合的藕夹，以及眉豆皮、肉片、鱼块等。
父亲则早早地劈好了烧大锅的木柴。
人一到齐，架起木柴，炉火腾腾地燃起来，把大锅里的油烧得幽幽滚动，母亲总是抟起第一个丸子下进油锅，顿时发出滋滋啦啦的响声，带着油香的水蒸气氤氲着飘散开来。
母亲下丸子的速度极快，直到现在，她的三个儿媳妇都还不能企及，因此还都是由母亲来下丸子。
因为锅里的油热，下得慢了表皮就会炸糊发黑。
不一会儿，酥菜的香味儿就弥漫了整个小院，年味儿开始四处飘散，第一锅冒着热气的丸子也随即出锅。
