课程概述:本课程针对英语专业高年级学生开设。
主要目的是为了顺应我国当前政治经济形势发展的需要,满足大学生迫切需要通过电视、电影等媒体来直接了解世界各国的政治、经济、文化和社会发展动态的需要。
通过涵养学生的影视艺术感觉,提高学生英语水平和影视艺术鉴赏的审美品位。
学习语言的过程很大程度上是文化习得的过程。
语言只有放置于一定的文化背景和语言环境的情况下才有其意义,学生才能够将语言认知能力转化为语言运用能力,达到学习语言的能力。
教学目的:通过对影视英语的分析与欣赏,让学生能够身入其境地了解影视中各种人物的对话,了解各国的风土人情、特有的文化背景、历史与现状、科学技术的发展、地理地貌等特点。
本课程借助现代媒体手段,充分利用各种可能的途径,获得各种特点的素材和资料,在课堂上和学生一起分析其中所用语言和其使用的环境,尤其是英文经典和热门电影的赏析和解读帮助学生领略电影大师们特色各异的创作韵趣,进一步认识电影思维、电影语言的独特规律,并从欧美和中国不同民族和地域的社会文化背景深入了解作品的文化学内蕴,通过教师分段的各种提问与讲解,使学生能对影片的内容有个透彻的了解,从而能逐渐培养起他们独立欣赏原版片的习惯与能力。
学生通过本课程的学习,可以提高自身通过听觉获取信息的能力,可以较为顺利地听懂有一定难度的英语电影、电视片段等,了解英语国家的人文特点,提高英语文化素养,能够在日常生活中灵活运用所学知识进行交流。
教学方法:观看经典英语电影或片段、名人传记纪录片等内容,难度相当于四六级或以上水平。

本课程的教学任务是:进一步培养学生英语的兴趣,提高英语的听说能力,增强用英语表达思想的信心,克服和外国朋友交流的恐惧,特别是提高日常中英语的口语表达能力;通过对不同类型的英文经典影视作品的欣赏,促进学生从不同的角度提高对语言的运用能力,从而进一步提高学生独立的审美能力和人文素养。
二、本课程的基本要求1.通过本课程的学习,使学生掌握影视欣赏的一般方法,掌握对影视作品作出一般性评论的技巧,并从口头和书面两方面提高对影视作品进行分析和评论的一般能力;2.通过本课程的学习,使学生进一步了解不同国度的文化,记住影片中使用的经典表达,学习地道的英语口语。
三、本课程与其它课程的关系通过对不同类型的英文经典影视作品的欣赏,它可帮助学生提高其听力、说的能力,同时也可帮助扩大其词汇量,增强语感,下解英、美文化、背景知识等,这些都有助于学生的英语精读、泛读课程的学习同时可以促进学生从不同的角度提高对语言的运用能力,从而进一步提高学生独立的审美能力和人文素养。
四、本课程的'教学内容本课程的教学内容主要包括英文经典影视作品的欣赏和评论(口头和书面)。

We will have more and more opportunities to get into touch with different cultures from different countries. There is no doubt that English is one of the world's most widely used and important languages. Due to the development of the economy, the international communication depends much more on English language, English plays an important role in it.English is so important to us all, so as spoken English and listening English. At the time we find the importance of English, most of us Chinese students ignore the study of spoken English. As a consequence, it is difficult for us to speak fluent English. What’s more, we can’t communicate with others in English because we can’t understand others’meaning and show our thoughts or ideas in English. This leads to we can’t use the world’s resources which may block our development.Therefore, it is critical that everyone of we humans especially our college students should learn English well .What’s more, listening and speaking English well will also have numerous advantages. Especially when we graduate from universities to find a good job. In order to have more chances to practice my English speaking and listening, I choose the English Movies and English Learning as my elective course this term. Luckily, we have seen a plenty of original English movies. Such as 《Zoom》、《Freaky Friday》、《Robots》、《Mummy 3》、《Twilight》 and so on . Before we saw them, our teacher often told us the introduction and critical sentences of the film so as to let us understand it easily. What encouragedme most is that our teacher found a series of daily sentences and we followed her to speak it out. It’s helpful to our spoken English which may contribute our daily communications.《Tilight》 is a very cool movie. The author Stephanie Meyer writes four books which then were filmed. The first book is Twilight. I am very glad to see it. It tells a story about eternal love between a smart young girl with a heart of fire and an incredibly and deadly attractive vampire. Isabella "Bella" moves from sunny Phoenix, Arizona to rainy Forks, Washington to live with her father, while her mother travels with her new husband. Bella attracts much attention at her new school and is quickly become familiar with several students. In the school, she also meets a mysterious boy named Edward Cullen who has many difference from common people. After much research, Bella eventually discovers that Edward isa vampire, though he only consumes animal blood. The pairs fall in love with each other. Soon after, three nomadic vampires arrive. James, a tracker vampire, is disaffection by Edward's protectiveness over a human and wants to hunt Bella for sport. Edward and his family risk their livesto protect her, and eventually they success in defeating all difficulties.Reading "Twilight", I always feel the love between man and vampireis so shocked and power. Man and vampire, originally belonging to two different worlds, there are so many obstacles in front of them. What make they defeat everything that stop them from love each other is courage and truth. From the movie I recognize that love is no limited .If we love somebody, we shall accept every aspect of him and try our best to make the love remains longer. Our life always has different kinds of people, we should learn to accept every kind of them and keep peace of them. At the same time Twilight also deliver a feeling of courage and power to us that will make us have the faith to defeat everything in our lives. On the other hand, we can’t take it as just an unrealistic love adventure.What’s more, I was so addicted to it that I focus attention on next movie New Moon.Another film that impressed me most is 《Freaky Friday》. The film tells us a story about Generation gap between a mother and revolt daughter. In their daily lives, there is a lack of communication between them which leads to misunderstands and generation gap. The mother often wants to control her daughter’s thoughts and actions while the daughter is a revolt girl who doesn’t want to follow her mother’s orders only to have her own freedom. Thanks to a cookie was gives by a old woman, a strange thing happened on a Sunday morning. They changed their body with each other, this means the mother had the daughter’s body but still had her own thought, so as the daughter. In order to get it normal, they have to experience each other’s life and understand each other. During the one day’s experience, both of them found so many difficulties in other’s life. Finally, they returned to normal life but could understand and support each other better.What do I learn from this movie is that it is important to communicate with our parents our thoughts and ideas in time in order to let them know our true feelings better and support our actions. We should respect them and receive their suggestions. Parents show their feelings to us in a appreciate way is also important to get rid of generation gap. What’s more, leaving children some space to do their own things is also important. Parent and their children should become closed friends rather than the so-called “stranger”.Thanks to our teacher provide this course to us and give us a chance to contact with so many good films. This course also has brought me so many benefits which let me know the method to learn English from watching English movies. From now on, I’ll continue this method which our teacher told us to learn spoken and listening English and never give up.。

The Painted Veil1 what’s the theme of this film “The Painted Veil”?In my view, the theme of this film “The Painted Veil”has two meanings:One hand , it refers to the incomprehension between Dr. Fane and Kitty. Kitty accept Fane’s proposal although she doesn’t like him. In that time, they don’t understand each other. Fane love the beautiful and mysterious woman until he knew Kitty's extramarital[ˌekstrə'mærɪt]婚外的affairs. However, the common experience in Mei-tan-fu made they understood each other better. Fane saw the brave and kind of Kitty as well as that Kitty knew how incredibly noble his job is and his merit. It is a process of revealing the veil to Let them see the real nature of each other. It is life to reveal the painted veil of true love.The other hand, it may refers that people are veiled in society, we should reveal the veil, really understand the people around us as Kitty and Fane, as kitty and Townshend. At first, Kitty believed Townshend loved her but she found she was wrong. She found Townshend is a playboy who is selfish 、greedy and lack of sense of responsibility. She finally uncovered the veil of Townshend to discover his nature.2 what’s the background that the story happened?It happened late last century in 1920, to be exact. In Britain, it is an honor for people to perch on the upper classes of society at that time. Parent didn’t think about their daughter’s future at all. Parents only thought daughter as economic burden or a access board to the top society. A woman who is not married at her appropriate age will be discussed. At the same time, China was suffering from disasters and conflict. She did indeed slide into disarray[ˌdɪsə'reɪ]混乱and warlords['wɔ:lɔ:d]军阀. And this story happened in Mei-tan-fu, a beautiful place in china. However this place is suffering from a epidemic cholera. It is easy to be seen that people die from this disease. Everywhere Dead body and silk people are lying on the road. To Walter and Kitty, their relationship broke up before coming to Meitanfu. They were unsure of their future.3 Why does Kitty still accept Fane’s proposal although she doesn’t like him at that time?It is because she received a lot pressure from her family. Her parents urged her to get married and her 17-year-old sister got married soon , while she even doesn’t have boyfriend. Her mother asked her : “How much longer do you except your father to go on supporting you .”and She heard her mother praised her sister to friends as well as to the Kitty's disappointment. Her mother said : “I gave up on Kitty ages ago.”This let Kitty's self-esteem[ɪ'sti:m]尊重was badly hit. So she still accept Fane’s proposal although she doesn’t like him at that time. On the one hand, She can escape from the cold family she think. ExamplesTownshend is a playboy who is selfish 、greedy and lack of sense of responsibility. He is rhetoric that he makes the woman thinks he loves her, but she is wrong. Compared with Townshend, Dr. Fane is a typical English gentleman of seriousness. He is a person who is keen to scientist’s work, though he is not good at express , lack of life temperament and interest. At the start of the film, he chat with Kitty on the way to flower shop, but we can discover what he said couldn't interest Kitty. His proposal is simple and direct, no sweet words, no romantic action. He is not a eloquent man as he said to kitty : “You see how clumsy I am .”He is wise and kind-hearted. He agreed to divorce with kitty on condition that Townshend must marry her. It reveals the nature of Townshend. He took revenge[rɪ'vendʒ]报复on his wife by a respectable way. He force kitty follow him to a epidemic area to help others. Living in the same area, Dr.Fane wants to help the suffering people but Townshend only think his property and job.Above all, Dr.Fane is a respectable gentleman.6 Why does Fane still volunteer to Mei-tan-fu where cholera spreads and doesn’t inoculate?In my view, there are two reasons for Dr. Fane volunteering to Mei-tan-fu. On the one hand , he wanted to punish his wife who betray him. Fane proposed marriage hastily. He loved his wife and he can do anything in his power to make her happy. However, his wife betrayed him. It made him very angry. He hated the betrayal from his wife, as well as that He blindly fell in love with such a stupid woman. Thus he choose to Mei-tan-fu where cholera spread and didn’t inoculate[ɪ'nɒkjʊleɪt]接种to banish放逐himself ,his wife and his love. Maybe, he also wanted to died with his wife and his love in there.On the other hand, He really wants to help the people who are suffering from disease. After all, there are many means of punishment , he chose one of the most respectable. From the movie, we can see that he worked very hard and seriously, took good care of the patients, active researched bacteria. If it was not he really wanted to do, he would not work so hard and so much.7 At first Kitty refuses to go with Fane, but at last she refuses to leave, why?I think there are two reasons why kitty refuses to leave.First, kitty want to divorce with doctor Fane but he will make public know her and charlie’s affair. Kitty think the love between her and charlie is true. But if the relations between her and charlie are known to people, she will not only marry charlie in the future,but also she will be criticized by people. So she have to choose to follow with doctor fane to Mei-tan-fu, a place she never think how tough their life is. Anyway, she and charlie have a lot of chances to get together in the future. When she came back, she can get divorced with doctor and formate a family with charlie.Second, though she don’t love doctor Fane but she respect him. And they have married and lived a short time. She don’t want his husband lose his face for her affair, and she don’t want to lose his own dignity either.Anyway we this choice is correct, otherwise how could she find the true love.9 How do you understand what Kitty says “We humans are more complex than your silly little microbes. We are unpredictable. We make mistakes and we disappoint. ”From this words by kitty says we can see that she regret what he has done in past. The affair between is not true love. Any woman like her will be attracted the playboy. After all, whichever woman will not like romantic. But this is not true love. Most of time it is not occur at first time. When she experience the same life with doctor Fane together they both find the other side of them. They find the same thing at that place and fall in love. When she realize the point and she give this words. Anyway it is not too late.Also, from this words we can see that though Kitty make mistakes but she dare to admit mistakes. Wee can’t just see that she is not a good woman. We should also conside the environment where she live.10 Sometimes we have something but we don’t treasure its value until someday we lose it totally. But we never know how much they have pay for us. When we realize that. Time for our parents isn’t very much.And for our friendship, it is not a easy thing for us everyone getting together. We should value our friend when we can care. Anyway when we graduate from school some friend we may never see.Life is so short, so treasure the people around you, your parents, your relatives and friends.Freaky Friday4.Do you have similar problems and how do you deal with them?Through this film we can see that the single mother Tess and her 15 year olddaughter Anna couldn't agree on various things. They are always bickering['bɪkə(r)]争吵. Mother does not understand her daughter's high school life; her daughter does not understand a mother's responsibility and her fiancé. It reminded me of my parents. I also have many bickers with my parents several years ago. The deepest impression is that in 2007. I was admitted to a general university. I did not want to register. However my parents strongly advised me to register, so I followed their suggestions. When I reached the university I found that studying was a difficult thing. But Nemo get captured by a scuba-diving dentist just after swaying his little tail with a strong satisfaction of victory in his heart.Marlin was so concerned with Nemo’s destiny that he decided to swim to Sydney to get Nemo back regardless of the hardness and danger. That times Marlin survived himself from the shark’s pursuing and capturing discouraged him. Fortunately, his newfound companion Dory was so kind-hearted. Dory had short-term memory and forgot things sooner.Thus, the two fishes suffered from different kinds of crises and made friends of every description during the journey in the Pacific Ocean. And with the help of Dory, Marlin gradually learned the way using courage and love to defeat fear and knew the truth that there must be something worth taking a risk and have a crake in one’s life. Finally, Marlin overcame difficulties to get together with Nemo. The play of light on the water was breathtaking. Several of ocean species existed vividly and vigorously on the screen. I admired the ocean view from Marlin’s new home on a coral reef while he uttered the first word “Wow!” This film is really a feast for the eyes and ears. All the characters are based on real-life ocean species. In order to preserving the essential as a fish, the talented people provided that voices that also made the fishes have a wonderful expression. It seems only fair to say that they created performances as full and varied as they have ever been on the screen. While the keynote of “Finding Nemo” is comedy with humor, there are also some serious themes lurking beneath the surface. The ocean is portrayed as a genuinely menacing place, full of danger and destruction. So there a re some scary moments in this film. At the beginning, marlin’s wife and all but one of their eggs were eaten by a predator. On the way, Marlin and Dory were pursued and attacked by the shark Bruce who had big sharp teeth. They also had an experience landing themselves in a predicament because of the jellyfishes in groups. The writer wanted to handle the tense storylines discreetly enough, but this little “potty humor” still might be upsetting to some viewers.In despite of some scars, Marlin and Dory were both safe later. Marlin’s crippling anxieties about anything and everything were balanced by Dory’s another kind of ethos that one should always forget the past, swim and just keep swimming. Marlin and Dory stood for different extremes on the way dealing with problems, but they can be regarded as a wonderful pair of partners from another angle.Meanwhile, in the aquarium Nemo had made some very good friends including the tough tiger fish Grill. Grill came from “the big blue” while the other fishes said the y came from a pet market or someone’s home, even the Internet. How poor the pet fishes are! They don’t know what the ocean is and what the planet they living like.Their destinies are controlled by mankind completely. Due to the eager desire for freedom, Grill constantly tried to escape. By doing so, Grill had suffered major injuries. Finding resemblance on Nemo, Grill helped Nemo plan an escape before the dentist could give Nemo to his niece. And with the help of grill, Nemo saved himself with his stunted fin when he was suffered in that narrow tube. The underdeveloped fin always made Marlin anxious about protecting Nemo although Marlin named it “lucky fin” to make Nemo feel confident and unselfconscious. Thus Nemo had a contradictory attitude that he wanted to prove he can take care of himself and sometimes he was powerless. Finally, Nemo succeeded thanks to Grill’s confidence and encouragement. Nemo’s final success didn’t caused by blind heroism, but the cooperation among friends. This kind of leadership is more suit the society than the aptitude nowadays.This film gives a lesson about parenting to parents. Marlin looked after Nemo carefully, he didn’t want Nemo to go to school and never let him practice over ten minutes. All the overprotection made Nomo never really grown up. But the big turtle took it for granted that the little turtle baby should experienced exciting adventures. It shows a new balance that parents wish to protecttheir children from injouried physically or emotionally with the need to let them grow up and learn how to take care of themselves.In the movie, there is another classical shot impressed me. When the creature undersea talked about man’s invasion, they satirically said Americans made the biggest quantities of troubles. It is really a determined active for Disney to expose the destruction of the nature from America themselves.As a movie designed for the children, there are really no completely bad guys in “Finding Nomo”. For example, the 8-year-old girl was looked for as a murder whose record with fish portends a short life pan by the fishes living in the dentist’s aquarium. She played a negative role in this movie perhaps just on account of her ignorance, thoughtless and curiosity about the fish kind. It is another joke that t he sharks are so friendly, they kept remaining “Fishes are friends, not food”. 本学期所授班级中机电2031、机电2032合班和机电2033班采用的教材均为《英语影视欣赏》,选取了其中的“穿普拉达的女王”、“当幸福来敲门”、“天生一对”、“辣妈辣妹”、“肖申克的救赎”以及根据学生的情况和主题系列另加了“公主日记”等六部影片供学生欣赏、学习和讨论。
学生在欣赏影片情节的基础上,也加强了听力训练、词汇学习,让学生感受不同文化背景下的文化差异,接受多元化的现代社会素养。
由于机电2033班学生是分层教学的C层班级,学生英语基础普遍较差,所以在学习要求上和AB层学生有区别。
对C层的学生更多的是加强基础方面的复习和提升,一些重要语言点、语法知识、翻译技巧,或是词汇理解、写作练习,以及趣味阅读,都只能少量地、循序渐进地贯穿在生动有趣的课堂活动中,让学生在轻松愉快的氛围中更好地掌握语言知识,提升语言应用能力。
其中的医药A2班采用的教材是《新职业英语》。
授课时在该书八个单元中选取了部分单元的课文阅读A、阅读B、语言实验室或Mini项目等,其中以第三、四、七、八四个单元为重点学习单元,每个单元以Reading A的学习讨论为主,课文学习后,配合课后练习中的阅读理解、词汇和结构、完成句子、翻译等来加以知识的巩固,使学生能更好的掌握和运用知识。
有些课外的资源和一些等级考试的词汇练习放在学习通里进行,以方便有需要的学生进一步学习和检测,使学生能更直观的感受学习的成果。

Character development occurs gradually over the entire film. It occurs because the characters has a definite motivation or goal, but meets with definite conflict in the realization of that goal. When a character meets with conflict, he or she is forced to reconsider his or her motivation – and the result is character growth.
