Step3 Applying the rules Complete the following sentences with proper relative pronouns, relative adverbs or “preposition + which”. (1) Heidi will always remember the day when/ on which she was first taken to the house in the city. (2) Heidi will always remember the day that/which she spent together with Peter, the goatherd. (3) The factory where/in which we produced the working tools is no longer here. (4) The factory that/which he mentioned in his story is no longer here. Conclusion: Restrictive relative clauses after the same antecedent are introduced by either relative pronouns or relative adverbs.

Sample: In a society where people are under a lot of pressure, sleep problems have become very common. So, there is a day when people can pay attention to their sleep. It’s called World Sleep Day. It falls on the Friday of the second full week of March. The reason why we should have World Sleep Day is that we want to make people understand the importance of good and healthy sleep, and to draw society’s attention to sleep problems. We can have discussions and talks about the importance of healthy sleep with people who we like on that day.
