Lost in the story, I felt like being together with the characters and experiencing the same exciting events. Soon it came to an end. To tell you my feelings, its infinite sadness and a strong emotion that can driveme to cry.The story is set in London and Paris at the time of the great French Revolution. It shows the causes of revolution and its effects on peoples day-to-day lives. Before the revolution, the King and the aristocracy treated their people cruelly in France. The common people were extremely poor and miserable. The crops in the fields were poor as if even the land shared the misery of the people. And there were so heavy taxes that all the villagers had nothing to hand over at last. On the other hand, the aristocracy made their will as the law by using money and gold. There were no justice, no equality and no fairness. Just as what happened to Dr Manette,he wrote to the Minister to show the crime what Marquis Evremonde had done, resulting in himself being arrested and sent to the prison Bastille without any reason. Then this situation of darkness was needed to be changed. As people such as the Defarges prepared and arranged, at length the Revolution came to break out. When the Bastille was captured and the King was tried and put to death as well as many other aristocrats, things didnt go on as what they had been expected. The situation stayed the same, or even worse. The prisoners from the Bastille were set free while more prisons were filled with people who had done no wrong again. People who once lived on the bottom of class took the charge now and their heart had been full of evil. The only thing they wanted to do was to revenge. And these so-called "patriots" would like to see more and more innocent prisoners going to the guillotine and thats their joy. As the novel wrote,” In everything they did were merciless, for they had been hardened in the fires of suffering and the touch of pity could make no mark on them".Equality and fairness is what people seek, which led to theFrench Revolution. As a consequence, neither equality nor fairness was got after the revolution. And thats the tragedy of the history.I was heavyhearted when reading what Sydney Carton said before death and I burst into tears finally.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感3A tale of two cities is written by Charles Dickens, one of Americas greatest writers. He was born in 1812 in Portsmouth and died in 1870. He was born poor, but soon after his unhappy childhood he became rich and successful. He also wrote many famous novels, such as oliver twist. Great expectations and so on.The tale of a tale of two cities was written in 1775. In a room above a tavern in Paris, there was a white-haired man who was busy making shoes. He had been a prisoner in the bastille for 18 years. Now he was a free man, yet he did not know his name, and he did not eat his friends. All he knew was that he had to keep making shoes. On a bus to Paris, she sat on lucie, the daughter she had never seen before. Lucie brought her father back to London, and, with the love and care of her daughter, he forgot about the past and learned to live as a free man.Yet during the stormy years of the French revolution, the past was neither lost nor forgotten. And so soon the danger secretly brought lucie and the people she loved back to Paris... There was the horrible death machine - the guillotine waiting for the enemies of France. The protagonist here is clearly debunking the darkness and corruption of the society at that time. One original for the 18 years as a prisoner, what also dont remember the man, then is he had never met the daughter "back to London, started a free life, but in the end, his daughter and she loved ones were returned toParis of darkness, by the French enemies killed!双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感4My Opinions About A Tale of Two CitiesA Tale of Two Cities was written by Charles Dickens, who was born in Portsmouth, England in 1812. As the second of eight children, Dickens had to go to work at the age of twelve to support his poor family, and he lived a difficult childhood. This troublesome time scarred him deeply and provided him with substantial material for such stories as Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, and Great Expectations. Though just accepted only little education, Dickens became a famous writer through his struggling self-learning and extremely hard work, and he was the representative writer of realism in the 19th century.Charles Dickens lived in the period of transition between feudalism and capitalism, when the industrial revolution originated in England swept through Europe. As large numbers of workers invaded into urban centers to earn a living, the bourgeois took advantages of the surplus of labor by keeping wages low. The poor thus remained poor, and often lived in a narrow and filthy environment. Dickens’ writing depicted various directions about this society, and provided a keen, sympathetic chronicle of the plight of the urban poor.A Tale of Two Cities mainly about the great atrocities of French aristocrats compelled the poor citizens to resist violently. Doctor Manette spent eighteen years as a prisoner in Bastille because he intended to expose the atrocity after learning that M arquis Evrémonde killed a beautiful farmwife and her younger brother because of his brother’s lust. After Doctor Manette was free again, his daughter Lucie got married with Charles Darnay, Marquis Evrémonde’s nephew, but chose to livein England because he could not accept the cruel injustices of the French social system and the snobbish and cruel values of his uncle. However, Marquis Evrémonde continued his atrocities. After his crazy carriage crushed over a farmer’s little baby as if nothing happen, he was killed at night. A revolutionary storm was brewing. Mr. and Mrs.Defarge were the revolutionaries in the poor Saint Antoine section of Paris. They wanted to kill all French aristocrats, including Charles Darnay. Mr.Defarge used to be Doctor Manette’s serv ant, so he was kind to Manettes, while his wife’s heart burned with longing for revenge. At last, Charles Darnay was judged to death, But Sydney Carton, a lawyer who loved Lucie deeply, willing to die instead of Darnay, as they had similar appearance. From my personal point of view, the person A Tale of Two Cities described astounded me very much. Some of them were cruel, crazy and reasonless, while some of them were kind, moral and had own mind.Sydney Carton was the person I thought the most. He was a smart attorney, without his help, Mr. Stryver could not solve any cases. But he was lazy, alcoholic, and cared nothing and nobody, he even could not find any interests in his own life, it seems that he lived just for wasting life. But he loved Lucie deeply. Finally, he became a hero, because he sacrificed his life to save Darnay.I didn’t know why the author spent so many words to form sucha strange guy at frist, he used his life to love Lucie, after all. But now, I caught it. Perhaps the terrible Carton symbolized the terrible old France, and his change in the end shown that everything could change, including the old France, a new and fine society would replace the violence. Then, Charles Darnay. He was worthy of esteem or respect. He displayed great virtue in his rejection of his uncle, Marquis Evrémonde. Money and power meant nothing to him, if they came from exploitation and oppression. Even though he had to inherit his uncle’s bequest, he left them to the poor and lived in London throught his own effort. When he realized that he must go back to Paris to help Gabelle, one of his servants, and make right the wrong his uncle had done, he acted without hesitation because he knew that was his duty. He even refused Carton’s help after he was judged to death. I thought, Charles Darnay was a shiny diamond in that cruel and violent society, and he was a hope, the hope of equality and peace.Third, Mrs.Defarge. How crazy this woman was. Nobody could stop her steps toward revenge, except the death. Although it said that wherever there is oppression, there is resistance, I didn’t agree with Mrs.Defarge totally. Her resistance was inhumane, insensible and endless. For just as the aristocracy’s oppression had made an oppressor Mrs.Defarge herself, so will her oppression, in turn, make oppressors her victims. In the end of the novel, her death by a bullet from her own gun. It shown theauthor’s belief that inordinate retaliated lust would destroy one own self.On the whole, A T ale of Two Cities is a successful novel. It shows us oppression and resistance, violence and terror, revolution and vengeance, love and friendship.I am lucky enough to live in the 21st century, when peace and development are pursued all along. Nowadays, there also are many problems and dissensions among this world, but violence does not the best way problems are solved. Violence just creates more problems, something every sensible person knows. Whatwe need are talks and communication. The time A Tale of Two Cities mentions has gone, we should do enough preparation to adapt the coming age.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感5This holiday, I used my spare time to read dickenss "a tale of two cities", also have some understanding, I will write down my feelings.1. Plot arrangement. The plot of this book is very mysterious, and the author concatenates all kinds of clues, as mentioned in the article, "weaving" becomes the novel. The greatest feature of the novel is the complexity of the characters, such as the relationship between Dr Manette and danan; The relationship between Mrs D urberge and dannan - the two relations directly led to the final tragedy. And the relationship between Mr. Lorry and Mr. DE hair, and the relationship between the pass and the spy, and so on. These complex figures link the work of this book. One of the most distinctive chapters of the book is a conversation with a little girl before his death, which thoroughly reveals that the revolutionary masses are too crazy and that the good will live on for ever.2. Characters. The most important character in the book is Charles daran (evmond). He was a very conflicted man, and he hated his father and uncle very much, but he had to support the whole family business. So when the old servant wrote to him, he had to return to France. He was a kind man, possessed of the civility of a nobleman, and when he met his uncle, he made it clear that he could not persecute the people. At the same time, he gave up the privileges of the nobility, which was a good deed.Sydney Carton was also an important figure. I have never liked this casual, lazy character in the first half of the novel. But in the process of reading later, I found him to be an aggressive and resourceful person. Although it is "friend", but actually caton and south relationship is not so good, but for the sake of the family happiness drops of life, caton willing to the guillotine, let fled south, and the embodiment of the eternal good. In the article, carton died "like a prophet".Mr And Mrs D arge also belong to the books focus. He was a good man, and he took Dr Manette, and told his wife after the revolution that he would accept it. She was an avenger, and she had been persecuted by the evremonde brothers, so she wanted to kill all the French aristocrats. Of course, because of her violent behaviour, she died in the hands of miss pross.3. Writing features. This novel is very humorous, and the author has been using dialectical relations and repeated techniques to achieve this effect. Therefore, this touching novel can still be read with great laughter. One of the features of the article is that the last author "helps carton express his feelings". The author used catons language to show the end of the article, telling people that "kindness is forever in the world".Thats how I read the novel.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感6A tale of two cities in this paper, the human nature thought what I touch, such as Charles Dickens wrote, he to his "sacred goal" and give up the position and property, and this in "resurrection" Xia He leave Christopher, as high; In order to save him into knowing unusually dangerous prison, he was the "stack"tiger, to "the lofty spirit is worth learning, not afraid of hard, dont give the evil forces, for the sake of the truth, regardless of life to save people, and I really admire him.In the ordinary in the novel, I saw a lot of different people, honest good matei, doctors, Lucy beautiful generous, elegant noble, loyal Charles lowry, distorts the life of Germanys wife, appearance indifference, inner passion Sidney, gracious miss PuLuoShi, cruel and wicked Mr Howe brothers. In this book the author distorts the history, uglifies the feudal aristocracy, the fact is not completely. Many scenarios, such as the horse knight doctors have imprisoned blank warrant, are risking their lives to save Charles still, a doctor, the leader of the people of Britain for fear of the other countries, said: "the French nobility oppress people". In order to buy off chert, with high status and wealth, he did not lose his money, and he improved the story of the tireless efforts of the oppressed. The main expression is love and kindness, reflecting good and evil boobs, love and hate, and finally the author says, "love always conquers hate". Evil is always a flash in the pan, and all must die with the evil one, and the good is everlasting. It reveals the social aspect of England comprehensively; The darkness of parliamentary politics, the doting of the ruling institutions, the evils of the money society, the poverty of the masses. With a story to deal with their contemporaries called for the authorities and the public, tyranny would cause violence, crisis near in the day, the rich should have merciful, bleeding can cause more more blood flow.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感7The report of the A Tale of Two CitiesRecently, I read a tale of two cities. I think that it’s a good novel.First, I want to introduce the author of this book .His name is Charles Dickens, he is an outstanding writer. He is one of the greatest writers in the 19 century. However, he had a painful childhood. He was arrested when he was 10 years old due to household debt. He had only a few years of learning. So, in his early years, his works are more about the painful children. He criticized the black of capitalism and had the sympathy for the poor. Now, let me introduce this novel. The background of this book is the French revolution. Before the revolution, the young doctor .Manette witnessed the guilty of the French marquis. So he was arrested in the Bastille by the marquis. After two years, his wife died. His daughter Lucie was send to London by his friends Lorry and adopted by the Miss Pross who is a maidservant. After 18 years, he was released from the Bastille and was taken care by his old servant Defarge. His daughter wanted to take his father to London. In the travel, she met the son of the marquis Charles Darnay who hated the guilty of his father and uncle. Then they loved each other. And now, Charles Dannay’s father had died, so manette wanted to forget the painful memory and hoped his daughter happy. So he agreed with them. In 1789, France break the revolution. All of the marquises was send to the guillotine. Because the Darnay was a marquis. So the Defarge read the report which was written by the doctor. Then Dannay was sentenced to death. Now Carton who always hidden loved Lucie went to the prison and he pretended Dannay. So Dannay escaped the prison. And carton was killed. However Madame Defarge still not gave up. She wanted to killed Dannay’s wife Lucie and their young child; finally she was burned by the pross. After read this novel, let me know about the French revolution. I think the people who lived in that period were not lucky. The poor were very sad. They were too blindness. And I was moved the carton, he died for his love, and I like him very much. 双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感8"This is the best of times and the worst of times." The first sentence of a tale of two cities is quoted numerous times. But I guess the man who knows this sentence and the novel "tale of two cities" tells a story, and does not know why. If you want to understand the original meaning of this sentence, and why you write this classic sentence, it is natural to read the original."In short, that era is so similar to todays." This sentence actually explains the two questions of the above classic sentence: why do you say that, and to whom? This is one of the reasons why the novel was born, dickens hope that through such a novel, by describing the French revolution brought disaster to the people to express their own worry, warn the dangerous situation at the same time. A revolutionary history, two cities representing two countries, a few wind and rain people, constitute the main elements of the novel.Although the tale of a tale of two cities is a classic novel, it is considered to be the authors view of history because it explicitly states that the revolutionary background is the French revolution. And that is the focus of countless controversies over the novel. In the novel, dickens showed the cruelty of the aristocracy, but also showed the irrational destruction of the revolutionary masses. The revolution, he argued, was a kind of oppression that replaced another kind of oppression, and a bloodbath that was a direct and heavy one instead of another. A series of depictions of the storming of the bastille and of the mob - bloody, brutal, cunning, malevolent - is the most striking aspect of the novel.Dickens has devoted a great deal of ink to the evil of the mob, showing his abhorrence of the mob and, in a certain degree, the hatred of the revolution. Of course, as a humanist, dickens also points out the cure for the world: love. This kind of love, embodied in the novel includes family love, love, friendship and such private feelings, also includes the abandonment of the aristocracy, the salvation of the kind of fraternity. Among them, the most brilliant is the description of cartons love.I like carton very much. In fact, carton was the embodiment of dickens, and dickens was the first to think of the man and the spirit of his body to conceive the novel. So, what was carton like? The novel describes: "the sun is sad and mournful, and the rising of sorrow, the sight unseen, is nothing worse than this man. He is talented and emotional, but he has no opportunity to show his talent. He cant do anything, and he cant make his own happiness. He knew his problem, but he resigned himself to his fate, and he wasted all his time, year after year.It is a young man who has lost his talent and youth. The novel does not appear to have been explained, since he has appeared in the first place, and has not written much about his family background. Personally, this man represents dickens himself, so he does not need to describe too much - the fall of carton comes from his frustration with the deteriorating society. He went up to the guillotine and said, "I see the evil of this age, and the evil of the former times, which has caused this evil, and I have gradually died for my SINS."Pessimists - caton, was rejected by his friends meet with difficulties, in the love of a womans husband is about to be guillotined in when he suddenly appeared, be dont save thesituation, do price with his own life, in the Nick of time to make a replace plan to rescue his beloved womans husband. It is not the love of Christ, who has redeemed his sin and died. In fact, in the novel, carton did indeed say, in the biblical tone, "the resurrection is in me, the life is in me, and the man who believes in me, though dead, will rise again. And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. This is the medicine that dickens prescribed for "the worst of times", but it is, after all, an ideal. It is said that the tale of a tale of two cities is an immortal work without Sidney. The existence and behavior of carton, the novel loses its value and brilliance.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感9The author of this book is dickens. Born in 1812, he was the second son of a naval officer, John dickens and Elizabeth barlow. The book says that poor Dr Manette, who had been imprisoned in the bastille prison for 19 years by the aristocracy, moved him to live in England. In the court, the father and daughter met the French nobleman darley and the ruined master carton. Later, Lucy and caton got married and lived happily for ten years. After the French revolution, gray was arrested for rescuing innocent servants from the French aristocracy. And carton, in keeping with his promise to Lucy, made use of his resemblance to darley, and replaced him with the guillotine before darley was executed.Novel through typical case is highly generalization to expose the eve of the French revolution, Britains social status, on the one hand is high is the ruling class of cruelty, on the one hand, the masses of working people under the exploitation and oppression of the feudal aristocracy led a very miserable life, thus profoundlyreveals the revolution is inevitable.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感10Borrow a book the other day the world of super thick masterpiece a tale of two cities, took a few chapters later, I also decide it, really boring, and dont understand, today I borrowed it to lose weight, managed to finish it. Characters in the book a lot, but the characters of all kinds of relationship and then to my unexpected, the protagonist is a former prisoners in the bastille for 18 years horse nate doctor, her daughter, Lucy, and his son Charles...Britain and France is known as the twins, the background of the novel, that is, the French revolution, I learn history, about the French revolution was clear to me, to contact in the novel, I really want to ask, is that true? Novel, mostly fiction, look after, gave me the impression is: the vicious wisely hot lady, innocent Charles, have nothing to say in the west, better ` cardan Sir, faithful maid miss pross, warm-hearted Mr Jarvis ` Laurie...I am a good man always has a good will, for the bad guys always have a feeling of disgust, not surprisingly, everyone like this, unless he is a good man, to bad people with kindness heart, or that he is a super big, bad, the good person always have a feeling that "they good false!" In fact, this is not strange, the fact is so! A bunch of hypocrites. Well thermal couple to find Lucy, thought to help her husband Charles, was hurt her husband in prison again, and eventually lead to the death of Mr Cardan. I think Mr Cardan very handout spirit, heavy sentiment, the first time he saw Lucy he fell in love with her, although the profession was rejected, but still cant change love for her, and finally to Lucy and her husband together, in order to Lucy is no longer sad tears, he went to prison and Charles switched, changed Lucyshappiness with his own life, he couldnt help but feel what touched me most is a character.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感11After reading "A tale of two cities" "A tale of two cities" is one of Dickenss most important representative works. The novel profoundly exposed the society contradiction before the French Revolution, intensely attacks the aristocratic social class is dissolute and cruel, and sincerely sympathizes with the depressed classes. The novel also described many magnificent scenes like the revolt people attacked Bastille and so on,which displayed peoples great strength. The novel has portrayed many different people. Doctor Manette is honest and kind but suffers the persecution actually , Lucie is beautiful and gentle ,Charles is graceful and noble,Lorry is upright and honest ,Sydney is semblance of indifferent, innermost feelings of warm, unconventional but also selfless and lofty,Miss Pross is straightforward and loyal,Evremonde brothers are cruel and sinister. The complex hatred is hard to solve, the cruel revenge has made more hatreds, loves rebirth in the hell edge, but take the life as the price. As an outstanding writer,in Dickenss work, the language skill is essential. Each kind of rhetoric technique, like the analogy, the exaggeration, the contrast, the humorous, and the taunt are handled skillfully, and the artistry of the work is also delivered the peak."A tale of two cities" has its difference with the general historical novel, its character and the main plot are all fictionalizes. With the broad real background of the French Revolution, the author take the fictional character Doctor Manettes experience as the main clue, interweaves the unjust charge, upholstery and so many techniques, causes the structureintegrity and strictness, the plot winding anxious and rich of theatrical nature,it displayed the remarkable artistic skill.the style "A tale of two cities" is solemnity and melancholy, fills indignantion, but lacks the humor of the early works.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感12"A tale of two cities" is hailed as the most outstanding representative of the French revolution, and I think the biggest reason may be because it is different. Unlike other works, such as Carlisles "the French revolution", dickens was more concerned with the joys and sorrows of the people at the bottom. In those days, though, the little figures themselves did not draw the worlds attention. But the authors keen capture of these little figures and the great revolution is inextricably linked, and arguably the French revolution itself was inspired by the power of the little people. The French revolution was a mark of blood in human history. In that chaotic era, full of uncertainty; In such a state of disorder, all human nature is revealed. A tale of two cities by the French revolution as the background, through to race hatred between civilians and conflict, the author want to convey the dickens -- - unable to wash away hatred, blood cannot replace love -- - more aristocratic tyranny to civilians caused pain will not heal, because blood civilians to hatred cannot replace love for lost relatives. In the story, Dr Menet was freed from prison to live with his daughter in London.Five years later, they testified in court for the French youth, Charles Darnay, who married darnay in love. In 1792, the French revolution broke out and the scene moved to France. Darnay, who had been arrested and sentenced to death for being a descendant of the aristocracy, had been in love with Lucys English。

A TALE OF TWO CITIESA Tale Of Two Cities is written by the famous British writter Charles Dickens. And the one I read was interpreted by Qu Li and published in March 2006 by Zhuihai Publisher.DIGEST:It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope…I see a beautiful city and a brilliant people' rising from this abyss, and, in their struggles to be truly free, in their triumphs and defeats, through long long years to come, I see the evil of this time and of the previous time of which this is the natural birth, gradually making expiation for itself and wearing out.I see that child who lay upon her bosom and who bore my name,a man winning his way up in that path of life which once was mine. I see him winning it so well, that my name is made illustrious there by the light of his.It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known. The major conflict in this novel is that Madame Dearge seeks revenge against Darmay for his relation to the odious Marquis Evremonde. While Carton, Manette, Lucie and Jarvis Lory strive toprotect Darnary from bloodthirsty revolutionaries guillotine.I was very impressed by Sydney Carton and he proves the most dynamic character in the novel. He first appears as a lazy, alcoholic lawyer who has no real prospect in life and seems there is no pursuit of things But I can sense, even in the initial chapter of the novel, Carton in fact feels something that he perhaps cannot articulate. In his conversation with the recently acquitted Charles Darnay, Carton’s comments about Lucie Manette is bitter and sardonic but may betray his willing. And that also shows his love feeling for the gentle girl. Eventually, Carton reaches a point where he can admit his feeling to Lucie himself. Before Lucie marries Darnay, Carton professes his love to her, though he still persists in seeing himself as essentially worthless. This scene marks a vital transition for Carton and lays the fundation for surpreme sacrifice . As Carton goes to the guillotine, the author tells us that he envisions a beatiful, idyllic Paris “rising from the abyss” and “the evil of this time and of the previous time of which this is the natural, birth, gradually marking expiation for itself and wearing out”Just as the apocalypic violence of revolution precedes a new society’s birth, perhaps it is only in the sacrifice of his life that Carton can establish his life’s great worth..Another one left a deep impression on me is a cruel revolutionist Madame Defarge. Because of hatring of Evremondes, she spends a good deal knitting a register of everyone who must die for the revolutionarycause. And she is so cruel and bloodthirsty, she lust for vengeance. What makes her to become that? In my view, she has suffered at the hands of aristocracy led her tragedy.Though the novel, I can futher understand of the terrible time –French Revolution. And I also learn one of the novel’s simple philosophies that love conquers all.。
大学英语读书笔记 A Tale of Two Cities
大学英语读书笔记A Tale of Two Cities 第一篇:A tAle of Two CitiesA tAle of Two CitiesAs my desk-mAte told me About the love story of the book, i wAs AttrActed by it. so it is the reAson why i wAnt to reAd this book And shAre it with you.‘A tAle of Two Cities’is one book of ‘chArles dickens’, A 19th century english writer who often criticize the society of englAnd And reAlism. the novel is mAinly About exposing the society contrAdiction before the french revolution And indicAting the fAte of englAnd which will be the sAme As frAnce. it is obvious thAt the Two Cities Are pAris And london And the story hAppened between these Two Cities. it hAppened in one evening of december, 1757. dr. mAnAtee wAs forced to pAy A home visit by mArquis st. evremonde. At the home of mArquis st. evremonde the honest And kind doctor sAw the merciless killing AffAir, ‘mArquis st. evremonde brothers rAped A beAutiful peAsAnt womAn just for momentAry cArnAl pleAsure And killed her whole fAmily And A teenAger who wAs hurt by the sword’. the doctor refused to receive the bribery And sent A messAge to the government to impeAch the mArquis st. evremonde. but it wAs so unfortunAtely thAt the messAge wAs hold by the mArquis st. evremonde. so he wAs sent to prison. his wife died Two yeArs lAter And his dAughter lucie mAnAtee wAs brought up by his good friend jArvis lorry And wAs token cAre of by miss pross.18 yeArs lAter, his dAughter found him And took him AwAy from the prison to englAnd with the help of jArvis lorry. they lived A hAppy live there. during the dAy stAying in london, lucie encountered chArles dAnnAy And fell in love with eAch other. when dr. mAnAtee found thAt chArles dAnnAy wAs the son of mArquis st. evremonde, he didn’t breAk up this couple of love. but he forgAve chArles dAnnAy with his kindheArtedness. becAuse chArles dAnnAy wAs A good mAn who wAs different from his fAther. he escApes from his fAmily with chAnginghis nAme And gAve up inheriting the fAmily’s big fortune.dr. mAnAtee’s old servAnts, the defrAgs, were the leAder of the french revolution. his hotel wAs the point of revolutionAry Activities. they hAted vicious AristocrAts And wrote down All bAd things these AristocrAts hAd done to tAke revenge in the lAter dAys. becAuse of it, chArles dAnnAy wAs innocently involved in And wAs sent to prison Two times. the first time he wAs fortunAtely sAved by lAwyer. As he wAs Arrested bAck to the prison, the pArAlegAl, sydney cArton, who Also loved lucie volunteered to get into the prison to substitute dAnnAy to die becAuse of he wAs so similAr to mr. dAnnAy. in the end dAnnAy And lucie lived with eAch other hAppily. ilike this moving story, especiAlly the selfless sydney cArton. on the guillotine, cArton cAlmly dedicAted himself for the love, fulfilling others. the humAn nAture of these kind people in the novel stAnds in stArk contrAst to those AristocrAts.the novel describe vividly About the evil of those AristocrAts. for An instAnce, mArquis st. evremonde AlwAys tyrAnnized the poor people And did everything he wAnts to do. one dAy, when he rode crAzily in the cArriAge As if nothing wAs being occurred his cArriAge rAn over A fArmer’s child. becAuse of it, finAlly, the child’s fAther slew him with the sword. it indicAted thAt the storm of A revolution s brewing. the novel profoundly reveAled thAt the french revolution deeply hAs shArpened the sociAl contrAdictions, And strongly AttAcked the noble clAss’s dissolute brutAlity, And deeply sympAthized with the sufferings of the working-clAss people.the Author Also pointedly sAid, people’s pAtience is limited. under the noble clAss’s brutAl regime, if people wAnt to live they must rAise up AgAinst the noble. And this resistAnce is justice.of course, the book hAs described the spectAculAr scene working-clAss pe ople fought AgAinst the bAstille And expressed the people’s greAt strength. the Author stood in thehumAnitAriAn stAndpoint, AgAinst cruel oppression of people’s tyrAnny, And Also AgAinst the revolutionAry people’s extreme violence.so whAt the reAl things the Author wAnts to express is on the bAsis of the love between of the young couple, lucie And dAnnAy. the one wAs A victim of the noble’s tyrAnny but wAs Also tolerAnt; the other one wAs the heir of the noble but Also clAimed of love. with the mAintenAnce of love, they form A mutuAl understAnding, hAppy And hArmonious fAmily. this is obviously thAt the Author thought thAt the love between people wAs the only wAy to resolve sociAl contrAdictions AgAinst the ideA of A violent revolution from the rAtionAl thinking And humAnitAriAn position. After reAding the book, there Are Two people who give me deep impression. one is the fAther of child who wAs killed by cArriAge. he wAs so poor when he lost his child. but the bAd noble, mArquis st. evremonde, never felt guilt, even throw very few pounds to comfort him. so he wAs too Angry to stAnd it. so he killed mArquis st. evremonde At A night without thinking About the terrible consequence. it is just becAuse of the love of A fAther. if i wAs the mother of thAt child, And i would do the sAme thing As him to revenge As in thAt period we hAd no other wAy to find the justice. the other one is sydney cArton. he loved lucie so much thAt he could die for her. some people mAy think he wAs so stupid. but i think his love wAs selfless. if i wAs the one who he loved And i loved him, i will be the hAppiest girl in the world. And i wAnt to emphAsize AgAin thAt it is the reAson why i wAnt to reAd this book.there Are evil people everywhere, but more good people. love And hAte, killing AffAirs And sAving lives, All of these exist. whAt we cAn do is to be good to others but not to dAmAge others. then the world will become more And more hArmonious. 第二篇:A tAle of Two Cities“A tAle of Two Cities”“A tAle of Two Cities“ is one of dickens’s most importAnt representAtive works.the novel profoundly exposed the society contrAdiction before the french revolution, intensely AttAcks the AristocrAtic sociAl clAss is dissolute And cruel,And sincerely sympAthizes with the depressed clAsses. And in the novel there Also described mAny like the revolt people AttAcked bAstille And so on,which displAyed people’s greAt strength,And mAybe this is the highlight of this story. At the very beginning , st.Antoine—A pArt in pAris, hAd been mentioned .it wAs cAlled one the poorest pArts in pAris. there, the children hAd the fAces And sAd voices of old men.hunger seemed to be written on the fAces of every mAn And womAn,so when A lArge bArrel of wine hAd been dropped And broken in the street of st.Antoine.quickly,All the people neAr by like A group of begger left whAtever they were diong,And rAn to get some of the red wine.for A time,in thAt street of poverty And misery, there wAs filled with A joyful sound of lAughter.but soon All the wine wAs gone, the lAughter died down And the miserAble people returned whAt they hAd been doing before.the vivid description At beginning pAved the for lAter mAgnificent scenes thAt would hAppen.the novel hAs portrAyed mAny different people. doctor mAnette is honest And kind but suffers the persecution ActuAlly , lucie is beAutiful And gentle ,chArles is grAceful And noble, lorry is upright And honest, sydney is semblAnce of indifferent, innermost feelings of wArm,unconventionAl but Also selfless And lofty, miss pross is strAightforwArd And loyAl,evremonde brothers Are cruel And sinister…the couples of defArge And the other revolutionlist.doctor mAnette,A prisoner ever hAd been put in the bAstille prison And his fAmilies hAd been persecuted by feudAl AristocrAcy.And once A time he wAs touched until his dAughter found him in the shop of monsieur defArge. After then,he And his dAughter lucie turned bAck to london And he seemed to be A normAl people.lucie, becAuse her beAuty And gentle,wAs loved by both chArles And sydney, but lucie loved chArles, whAt’s more, she didn’t know sydney Adored her,And At lAst,lucie And chArles got mArried.in the story ,chArles And sydney shAred the sAme ApperAnce.this coincidence prepAred for the plot thAt sydney went to the prison to chAnge roles with chArles.the couples of defArge, who lived in st.Antoine, they sAw the AristocrAcy persecuted their sibling, the sAvAge of upper clAss in the Accident in pAris stimulAted people’s Anger And hAte of the AristocrAcy. All the dissAtisfAction AppeAred on everyone’s fAce,especilly on mAdAme defArge, they could do nothing bu to suffer.the complex hAtred is hArd to solve, the cruel revenge hAs mAde more hAtreds. After thenthe cry of crowd, led to the revolution.the crowd seized the governer of the prison,And then he wAs struck from behind And fell deAd.so the revolution begAn And so it continued. st.Antoine’s dAy hAd come And st.Antoine wAs Angry.mAybe becAuse of the oppression, thepeople there hAd been hArdened in the fires of suffering, they were meciless,And never hAd the touch of pity.chArles And sydney ,A french mAn And An englAnd mAn,becAuse of lucie, their fortune hAd chAnged totAlly. chArles wAs A AristocrAcy in frAnce, for his hAtred of hisclAn,so he escAped to englAnd And lived A compArAtively life.sydney, the AssistAnt of mr.stryver(who hAd defended him),so they knew eAch other from then on.but one dAy,chArles received A letter from gAbelle, his servAnt.chArles’s mind wAs very disturbed by this letter,so he decided to went bAck to frAnce to sAve sAve his old servAnt from the deAth.but At thAt time, the situAtion wAs turbulent in frAnce Although the cAtchword wAs “liberty, equAlity And frAternity”.on the wAy to frAnce, the new lAw wAs issued,And it condemned to deAth All fugitive who return.obviously chArles wAs seized.when the news cAme to his relAtives in englAnd,All of them worried About him.therefore, lucie And Another people returned to frAnce, then they tried every wAy to sAve him,in the end ,by the virtue of dr.mAnette’s greAt populArity, chArles wAs sAfe.but good time didn’t lAst long, with A sound of A knock At the door,chArles wAs Accused by the couples of defArge.this time,After the doctor’s story wAs told to crowd in the court, the terrible sound rose up from the people in the court—A cry for blood.there,roAr And roAr,no one could sAve chArles AgAin.lucie wAs very sAd And despAiring when she heArd this grievious news.sydney, then,he wAs Ached, becAue he did not wAnt to see his beloved womAn so suffering.in thAt cAse,he decided to insteAd chArles’s deAth,becAuse he sAid he love lucie, little lucie,so he wAnt to help lucie found her love bAck And reAlized his vAlue of life.At lAst,chArles wAs survived, but sydney wAs died under the guillotine. After sydney died, some people sAid of him,in the city thAt night,thAt it wAs the most peAceful fAce ever seen there.the only words i hAve remembered”it is A fAr,fAr better thing thAt i do,thAn i hAve ever done;it is A fAr,fAr better rest thAt i go to thAn i hAve ever known.”from these we cAn sAy love rebirth in the hell ed ge,but tAke the life As the price. As for An outstAnding writer,in dickens’s work, the lAnguAge skill is essentiAl.eAch kind of rhetoric technique, like the AnAlogy, the exAggerAtion, the contrAst,the humorous,And the tAunt Are hAndled skillfully,And the Artistry of the work is Also delivered the peAk.“A tAle of Two Cities“ hAs its difference with the generAl historicAl novel, its chArActer And the mAin plot Are All fictionAlizes.with the broAd reAl bAckground of the french revolution, the Author tAke the plot is criss-crossed,And the clue is complex. the nArrAtes, foreshAdowing, upholstery And so mAny techniques,cAuses the structure integrity And strictness, the plot winding Anxious And rich of theAtricAl nAture,it displAyed the remArkAble Artistic skill.the sty le “A tAle of Two Cities“ is solemnity And melAncholy, fills indignAntion, butlAcks the humor of the eArly works.for Author’s purpose,he wAnt to rely on the revolution in frAnce to wArn the bourgeoisie of englAnd.it is A mAsterpiece of dicken, some vivid words And some sAtiric words exposed the socity deeply.on one hAnd,Auther represents the Aspect of devil, for exAmple, the revolutionists’figure hAve been distorted.on the other hAnd,there is A moving Act About the chArActer sydney,thAt is in order to help his rivAl eAcApe from deAth,he devoted his own life.these Two shArp contrAct mAke the whole story more vAluAble And meAningful.第三篇:A tAle of Two CitiesAfter reAdingA tAle of Two CitiesA tAle of Two Cities is one of dickens’s most importAnt represent Ative works. the story is set in london And pAris At the time of the greAt french revolution. it shows the cAuses of revolution And its effects on people’s everydAy lives. before the revolution, the king And the AristocrAcy treAted their people cruelly in frAnce. the common people were extremely poor And miserAble. the crops in the fields were poor As if even the lAnd shAred the misery of the people. And there were so heAvy tAxes thAt All the villAgers hAd nothing to hAnd over At lAst. on the other hAnd, the AristocrAcy mAde their will As the lAw by using money And gold. there were no justice, no equAlity And no fAirness.the novel hAs portrAyed Two pAirs of vivid people, who i like most, one pAir is dr. mAnette And mr. cArdon, And Another is miss pross And mrs. defArge.becAuse of his occupAtion, dr. mAnette hAs witnessed mArquis evremonde brothers’crimes. And he wrote to the minister to show the crime whAt mArquis evremonde hAd done, resulting in himself being Arrested And sent to the prison bAstille without Any reAson. much As he suffered, dr. mAnette didn’t hAve Any ideA of revenge. when he wAs free, dr. mAnette just went bAck to briton with his only dAughter lucie. however, the story didn’t come to An end. lucie mArried A mAn, who wAs the son of mArquiss evremonde, dArnAy. for lucie’hAppiness, dr. mAnette hAd forgAve All the defense dArnAy’fAmily do to him, even in the following future, tried to rescue dArnAy from the bAstille. the quAlities in dr. mAnette (brAveness, self-surrenderness And reAlity) Are the indispensAble content Among dickens’s morel criteriA.At the first glAnce of mr. cArdon, i don’t like this guy At All. Although mr. cArdon wAsn’t A hero, there wAs AlwAys A mysterious color Around him. mr. cArdon hAd A good educAtion, but still couldn’t succeed in his cArrel. in the normAl life, mr. cArdon wAs A young mAn with confusion. it wAs on the triAl of dArnAy thAt mr. cArdon’s tAlent functioned the first time. he found thAt they hAd A similAr fAce, which wAs cruciAl in his defend for dArnAy. thAt wAs A prerequisite for his rescuing dArnAy in the end. even if he wAs considered degenerAte by the upper clAss in the society, or in other words, showed A low stAndArd of morAls or behAviors, mr. cArdon hAd reserved A plAce for the girl he loved And for his dreAm.in thAt cruel revolution, mr. cArdon sAcrificed his own life for the girl he loves, lucie. dickens holds thAt love ship of this kind which is At the expense of life is recAll to life, As god sAys,“one believe me would be immortAl.” fro m mr. cArdon, especiAlly the prAyer he sAid before execution, we cAn see the loyAlty towArds god, both mr. cArdon And dickens.miss pross wAs one of those women who thought nothing of their own needs And who, through pure love And AdmirAtion, Are reAdy to mAke themselves slAves to youth when they hAve lost it, to beAuty which they hAve never hAd, And to bright hopes thAt hAve never shone upon their own dArk lives. we could see it At mAny very triviAl thing. for exAmple, miss pross rushed into the room As she heArd lucie wAs n’t well, when lucie met mr. jArvis lorry the first time. “ And you in brown!” she sAid, indignAntlyturning to mr. lorry; “couldn’t you tell her whAt you hAd to tell her, without frightening her to deAth? look At her, with pAle fAce And her cold hAnds. do you cAll thAt being A bAnker?” miss pross love lucie sincerely. As mr. lorry sAid, “there is nothing better in the world thAn the honest service of the heArt“. since miss pross hAd become like A mother to lucie And would hAve given her life for her, she would do everything she could to keep mrs. defArge in the house so thAt the cArriAge cArrying lucie could run fArther.compAred to miss pross, mrs. defArge wAs A womAn who wAs Almost controlled by her hAtred. generAl speAking, mrs. defArge wAs A womAn with A very keen eye, A strong fAce And A greAt cAlmness of mAnner. the most impressive impression mrs. dAfArge left to me wAs the never-finished knitting. i wAs wAndering how mrs. defArge knitted those nAmes of whom they considered to be enemy. mrs. defArge’s fAther, brother And sisters were killed by evremonde brothers. when the french revolution broke out, it wAs her who led the womAn And cut off the heAd of the governor of the prison. mrs. defArge hAd A strong, feArless And A kind of beAuty thAt cAlled Attention to her quAlities. she hAd grown up with A deep sense of wrong And A powerful hAtred of the AristocrAcy; Any pity thAt she once mAy hAve hAd wAs now deAd. to her, dArnAy’s fAmily must be destroyed; the wife And child must follow the fAther. so to speAk, through her deAth, dickens expressed his humAnitAriAnism. though we mAy fell sympAthy with those suffering common people ,thAt doesn’t meAn thAt whAtever they do is justified. it is eAsy to find thAt dickens hAs the sAme Attitude towArds them As us.while these four figures Are not All the most importAnt figures Among so mAny people in this novel, they hAve certAin chArActeristic AttrActing me.07 外四07050403韩芳芳第四篇:A tAle of Two CitiesA tAle of Two Citiesthe Authordickens, chArles(born feb. 7, 1812, portsmouth, hAmpshire, eng.-died june 9, 1870, gAd’s hill, neAr chAthAm, kent) british novelist, generAlly considered the greAtest of the victoriAn period.his fiction cAreer begAn with short pieces reprinted As ske tches by “boz” (1836). he exhibited A greAt Ability to spin A story in An entertAining mAnner And this quAlity, combined with the seriAlizAtion of his comic novel the pickwick pApers (1837), mAde him the most populAr english Author of his time. the seriAlizAtion of such works As oliver twist (1838) And the old curiosity shop (1841) followed. 双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感(精选12篇)
双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感(精选12篇)双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感1"A tale of two cities" is hailed as the most outstanding representative of the French revolution, and I think the biggest reason may be because it is different. Unlike other works, such as Carlisles "the French revolution", dickens was more concerned with thejoys and sorrows of the people at the bottom. A tale of two citiesby the French revolution as the background, through to race hatred between civilians and conflict, the author want to convey the dickens -- - unable to wash away hatred, blood cannot replace love -- - more aristocratic tyranny to civilians caused pain will not heal, because blood civilians to hatred cannot replace love for lost relatives. In the story, Dr Menet was freed from prison to live with his daughter in London.Five years later, they testified in court for the French youth, Charles Darnay, who married darnay in love. In 1792, the French revolution broke out and the scene moved to France. Darnay, who had been arrested and sentenced to death for being a descendant of the aristocracy, had been in love with Lucys English youth, Sidney, at the critical moment. Carton took the guillotine for him. Carden is one of the most attractive and complex characters in the book. Decadent, negative, at school, he only writes homework for classmates; After society, even with all the talent, it still chose to work for another lawyer. But beneath his cold exterior, there was a deep tenderness. With this a welcome tenderness and love for Lucy, cardan made a significant decision - - instead of the guillotine dyer that -- - with his own life in exchange for another persons life, in return for a familys happiness and smile. It was the act of carden guarding Lucy, sacrificing for love, how noble it was in that great age, even in modern times! Compared with the tenderness and love of the representative, Mrs. Dofstone was a symbol of bloodshed and bloodshed. The death of a loved one in the hands of darnays father and uncle, she lived for a lifetime of hatred; For the death of darnays family, he had no needof it, and at last he was killed by a fire. The bloodlust of Mrs. Dauphin was a terrible shock, but it also made people sigh the power of hate, and make the woman who shouldbe happy and happy to be the Nemesis. At the end of the eighteenth century, France was burned into asurra hell by this perverse and vengeful flame. Lessons and meanings cannot be forgotten by the years. If we cant get something out of it, the same tragedy will happen again. Two hundred years later, we hope that we can create a new century of true equality, freedom and fraternity in this generation.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感2Crazily, but truthfully, I finished reading the most part of the novel "A Tale of Two Cities" in just one day. Lost in the story, I felt like being together with the characters and experiencing the same exciting events. Soon it came to an end. To tell you my feelings, its infinite sadness and a strong emotion that can drive me to cry.The story is set in London and Paris at the time of the great French Revolution. As the novel wrote,” In everything they did were merciless, for they had been hardened in the fires of suffering and the touch of pity could make no mark on them".Equality and fairness is what people seek, which led to the French Revolution. He had been a prisoner in thebastille for 18 years. One original for the 18 years as a prisoner, what also dont remember the man, then is he had never met the daughter "back to London, started a free life, but in the end, his daughter and she loved ones were returned to Paris of darkness, by the French enemies killed!双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感4My Opinions About A Tale of Two CitiesA Tale of Two Cities was written by Charles Dickens, who was born in Portsmouth, England in 1812. As the second of eight children, Dickens had to go to work at the age of twelve to support his poor family, and he lived a difficult childhood. This troublesome time scarred him deeply and provided him with substantial material for such stories as Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, and Great Expectations. Though just accepted only little education, Dickens became a famous writer through his struggling self-learning and extremely hard work, and he was the representative writer of realism in the 19th century. Charles Dickens lived in the period of transition between feudalism and capitalism, when the industrial revolution originated in England swept through Europe. Doctor Manette spent eighteen years as a prisoner in Bastille because he intended to expose the atrocity after learning thatMarquis Evrémonde killed a beautiful farmwife and her younger brother because of his brother’s lust. After Doctor Manette was free again, his daughter Lucie got married with Ch arles Darnay, Marquis Evrémonde’s nephew, but chose to live in England because he could not accept the cruel injustices of the French social system and the snobbish and cruel values of his uncle. However, Marquis Evrémonde continued his atrocities. Afterh is crazy carriage crushed over a farmer’s little baby as if nothing happen, he was killed at night. A revolutionary storm was brewing. Mr. and Mrs.Defarge were the revolutionaries in the poor Saint Antoine section of Paris. They wanted to kill all French a ristocrats, including Charles Darnay. Mr.Defarge used to be Doctor Manette’s servant, so he was kind to Manettes, while his wife’s heart burned with longing for revenge. Finally, hebecame a hero, because he sacrificed his life to save Darnay. I didn’t know why the author spent so many words to form such a strange guy at frist, he used his life to love Lucie, after all. Even though he had to inherit his unc le’s bequest, he left them to the poor and lived in London throught his own effort. For just as the aristocr acy’s oppression had made an oppressor Mrs.Defarge herself, so will her oppression, in turn, make oppressors her victims. In the end of the novel, her death by a bullet from her own gun. It shown theauthor’s belief that inordinate retaliated lust would de stroy one own self.On the whole, A Tale of Two Cities is a successful novel. What we need are talks and communication. The author used catons language to show the end of the article, telling people that "kindness is forever in the world".Thats how I read the novel.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感6A tale of two cities in this paper, the human nature thought what I touch, such as Charles Dickens wrote, he to his "sacred goal" and give up the position and property, and this in "resurrection" Xia He leave Christopher, as high; In order to save him into knowing unusually dangerous prison, he was the "stack" tiger, to "the lofty spirit is worth learning, not afraid of hard, dont give the evil forces, for the sake of the truth, regardless of life to save people, and I really admire him.In the ordinary in the novel, I saw a lot of different people, honest good matei, doctors, Lucy beautiful generous, elegant noble, loyal Charles lowry, distorts the life of Germanys wife, appearance indifference, inner passion Sidney, gracious miss PuLuoShi, cruel and wicked Mr Howe brothers. And now, Cha rles Dannay’s father had died, so manette wanted to forget the painful memory and hoped his daughter happy. She wantedto killed Dannay’s wife Lucie and their young child; finally she was burned by the pross. After read this novel, let me know about the French revolution. I think the people who lived in that period were not lucky. The poor were very sad. They were too blindness. And I was moved the carton, he died for his love, and I like him very much.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感8"This is the best of times and the worst of times." The first sentence of a tale of two cities is quoted numerous times. This is oneof the reasons why the novel was born, dickens hope that through such a novel, by describing the French revolution brought disaster to the people to express their own worry, warn the dangerous situation at the same time. He went up to the guillotine and said, "I see the evil of this age, and the evil of the former times, which has caused this evil, and I have gradually died for my SINS."Pessimists - caton, was rejected by his friends meet with difficulties, in the love of a womans husband is about to be guillotined in when he suddenly appeared, be dont save the situation, do price with his own life, in the Nick of time to make a replace plan to rescue his beloved womans husband. And carton, in keeping with his promise to Lucy, made use of his resemblance to darley, and replaced him with the guillotine before darley was executed. Novel through typical case is highly generalization to expose the eve of the French revolution, Britains social status, on the one hand is high is the ruling class of cruelty, on the one hand, the masses of working people under the exploitation and oppression of the feudal aristocracy led a very miserable life, thus profoundly reveals the revolution is inevitable.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感10Borrow a book the other day the world of super thick masterpiece a tale of two cities, took a few chapters later, I also decide it, really boring, and dont understand, today I borrowed it to lose weight, managed to finish it. Well thermal couple to find Lucy, thought to help her husband Charles, was hurt her husbandin prison again, and eventually lead to the death of Mr Cardan. I think Mr Cardan very handout spirit, heavy sentiment, the first time he saw Lucy he fell in love with her, although the profession was rejected, but still cant change love for her, and finally to Lucy and her husband together, in order to Lucy is no longer sad tears, he went to prisonand Charles switched, changed Lucys happiness with his own life, he couldnt help but feel what touched me most is a character.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感11After reading "A tale of two cities" "A tale of two cities" is one of Dickenss most important representative works. 大学英语读书笔记 A Tale of Two Citiesa tale of two cities occupies a central place in the canon of charles dickens's works. this novel of the french revolution was originally serialized in the author's own periodical all the year round. weekly publication of chapters 1-3 of book 1 began on april 30, 1859. in an innovative move, dickens simultaneously released installments of the novel on a monthly basis, beginning with all of book 1 in june and concluding with the last eight chapters of book 3 in december. dickens took advantage of the novel's serial publication to experiment with characterization, plot, and theme. he described the work in a letter to his friend john forster, cited in rudi glancy's a tale of two cities: dickens's revolutionary novel, as "a picturesque story rising in every chapter, with characters true to nature, but whom the story should express more than they should express themselves by dialogue." the novel that emerged from his experimentation is now regarded as one of dickens's most popular and most innovative works.dickens's work was very popular with the reading public when it was first published. one review in the magazine athenaeum stated that a tale of two cities had attracted the praise of a hundred thousand readers. on the other hand, a whole set of critics, most notably sir james fitzjames stephen writing in saturday review, criticized the novel precisely for its popularity. "most of the critics writing in the intellectual and literary journals of the day considered popular success a good reason to condemn a work," explains glancy. "if the public liked it, they certainly could not be seen to approve of it at all." modern critical opinion, however, has given the novel an important place amongdickens's most mature works of fiction.。

双城记英⽂版读后感篇1 A TALE OF TWO CITIES The tale of two cities is a historical story, one of Dickens’ long fictions. The background to the novel is the revolution of France .It portrayed a brutal and bloody story , but it also contained love and friendship. In the novel, Dickens sarcastically described a typical cruel nobleman-marquis of Evermonde . When he was young he and his brother stole a countrywoman by force and killed her family .What’s worse , he used his power to imprison Dr Manette , a kind and honest man who knew all the things they had done and wanted to disclose their crimes . In order to hide their crimes. Marquis of Evermonde and his brother threw Doctor Manette into prison for 18 years . During these 18years,Doctor Manette lost his freedom and suffer a great in spirit . I felt unthinkable that Marquis of Evermonde and his brother killed people just as easily as they killed chickens. They deprived other people’s freedom as they liked and they thought it was normal and unremarkable. They had never realized that they had done something wrong or something improper. Because their nature was cruel and evil, like demons. There is an old saying which means: People who commit too many crimes will kill themselves. After all, there is justice in the world. The demons can’t be rampant forever. Because the world will not forgive them. They will pay their lives for their crimes. Let’s see the consequence of the Marquis,’’He lay there like a stone with a knife pushed into his heart.” I think it was just what he ought to gain and it is a real exciting scene. The Marquis’ death was just the beginning of people’s resistance to the nobleman. Gradually more and more people joined in the revolution. One after another nobleman were sentenced to death and their heads were cut down . However, some innocent people were implicated in the revolution. Charles Darney was one of them He was the nephew of Marquis of Evermonde. To the opposite of his uncle, Darney was a kind and independent young man. Dickens spoke highly of kindness mercy and love in the novel too. This is the other thone of the novel when Doctor Manette was released from prison. It was his daughter Lucie who took care of him and helped him return to normal. During this time, Dr manette and Lucie knew Charles Darney and Sydeny Carton, the two young man fell in love with Lucie at the same time . At last, Lucie married Chares Darney .Dr Manette accepted Darney as his son-in-law although he knew that Darney was the nephew of the man who threw him into prison for18 years. This is the love between father and daughter. And Sydeny Carton , the very great man ,loved Lucie deeply. He promised Lucie that he would do everything for her happiness. He did it truely ,he sacrificed himself instead of Darney who looked the same as him. This is love for lovers . This is the most wonderful thing in the world. It alsoreminds us that no matter how no matter when there is true love existing. At the end , Lucie, Dr Manette and Darney arrived in England safely. The tale of two cities is different from other historical fictions. Its characters and main plots are fictional under the real background of the revolution of France. The author made the experience of the fictional charactor Dr Manette as the main clue. The plots are complicated, and they are flexuous and dramatic. The structure is complete and rigorous. Dickens had dear love and hate. He praised those who ought to be praised and attacked those who ought to be attacked. The motivation of the novel maybe just warn the English dominators. But I think we can learn something meaningful from the tale of two cities. 双城记英⽂版读后感篇2 “It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times. It was the age of wisdom, and it was the age of foolishness. It was the epoch of belief, and it was the epoch of incredu-lity. It was the season of light, and it was the season of darkness. It was the spring of hope, and it was the winter of despair. We had everything before us, and we had nothing before us. We were all going direct to Heaven, and we were all going direct the other way. In short, the period was so far like the present period. That some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of parison only. ” With the beginning of above words, Dickens told us a love story called “A Tale of Two Cities”, which is one of his most important representative works. The novel profoundly exposed the society contradiction before the French Revolution, intensely attacks the aristocratic social class is dissolute and cruel, and sincerely sympathizes with the depressed classes. The novel also described many magnificent scenes like the revolt people attacked Bastille and so on, which displayed peoples great strength. The plex hatred is hard to solve, the cruel revenge has made more hatreds, loves rebirth in the hell edge, but take the life as the price. Among many different kinds of people in the story, it is Sydney Carton who impressed me most. I can’t describe my feeling at the first sight of him. To tell the truth, he was not eye-catching at that time. When the readers were immersed in the meeting between Lucie and Charles, he only played a little role as a lawyer who had the same face with Charles and extricated him from accusation through this point. Then they went to drink. Without scruple, Carton expressed his dislike to Charles. Yes, they had the same face. But they were different. Carton was a little lawyer, while Charles was a successful man. Carton was quite free and easy, while Charles was graceful and noble. In fact, they were absolutely two distinctive men except for their appearance. Certainly, what Carton cared about was not the wealth or the position, but the love of Lucie. He realized that Lucie loved Charles, so he was barely out of control at that time. Every time I read this part, I could feel his sincerity and broad-minded. By no means would he say a lie. He must tell you what he thinks in the heart. It is Sydney Carton, a true man. After a short time, he can’t resist himself going to see Lucie. But when he stepped into the small forest, he saw Lucie and Charles getting together happily. He didn’t rush towards them, however, he returned without a word. Though he had a period of depression after that, he was clear who Lucie loved was not him. So what he only would do was to bless her. Some days later, he came to meet Lucie again. He still told Lucie about his love, although he knew it was useless. He just wanted her to know it, as he said,“I want you to know that you are my last dream in my life. ” Many times, love is a thing about only one person. “I love you.”--It’s my business, not yours. So when Carton showed his deep love to Lucie, I suddenly felt that this man was so lovely and deserved to beloved. “Remember always there’s a man who could give his life to you, or anyone you love.” Carton left with these words. But all of these seemed a sign of misfortune. From then on, I came to understand how profound his love was. No doubt that it is the most moving love words in the world. Although you don’t love me, I am still there for you or your beloved though thick and thin. But I knew in this story, Carton was bound to a tragic role. So when I saw he only left a view of his back in her wedding, there was a plex mood appearing slowly in my heart. Some years passed. When Lucie appeared in the front of Carton, she became a mother. This time, Lucie’s face was filled with anxiety. Because Charles was in prison and would be killed soon. What lead to this was the plicated and filthy past. From the point, the dirty of society was reflected. It was the sorrow in that period. But they must pay for this sorrow. So it was the time that Carton achieved his permission. “I told you once, for you I would do anything. I will. ” He said. At the last moment, he and Charles exchanged. That they had the same face helped them at the second time. When Lucie and her family left without knowing the truth, Carton, instead of Charles, went to be killed. How can we evaluate his action? We can’t say anything about it because all what he did was out of love. As he said to the young girl who panied him before died, “If we have no fear, we can be calm all the way.” He was so calm to greet what would be ing soon, for she would get her happiness and he loved her forever. “It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.” With her face rising before his eyes, he went to execution ground calmly. It is “A Tale of Two Cities”, also a tale of Sydney Carton. 双城记英⽂版读后感篇3 The tale of two cities is a historical story, one of Dickens’ long fictions. The background to the novel is the revolution of France .It portrayed a brutal and bloody story , but it also contained love and friendship. 双城记英文读后感优秀3篇A Tale of Two Cities is one of Dickens’s masterpieces; the story is an exposure of the contradiction before France Revolution-the appealing of “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” by France lower class.Sydney CartonWhen I read the chapter pertaining to interrogation on Charles Darney, intuition tells that the lawyer assistant who feels at ease with his eyes fixed on the ceiling must be a very special man, which turned out to be right when I finished the whole book. He seems indifferent about everything, even his love. He is brilliant but he thinks otherwise, or rather, he thinks he is inferior to others. Even his master thinks that if he worried about this or that, he would make a great success. Feeling of humbleness is the fatal point leading the loss of his beloved one. If Lucie Manette lives with him, he thinks, she wouldsustain much hardship. At the end of the story, he sacrificeshis life for his love willingly.Charles DarneyLucie ManetteShe goes to France with Jarvis Lorry to take her father back, she shows great sympathy to Sydney Carton, and she prayed his husband would get an early deliverance from captivity. She is a kind-hearted lady made of love and sympathy; she is also the incarnation of elegance.Dr.ManetteFrom this person, Dickens may tells that love between the lower-class family members are as pure as crystal.Jarvis LorryCouple DefargeA tale of two cities is one of Dickenss most important representative works. The novel profoundly exposed the society contradiction before the French Revolution, intensely attacks the aristocratic social class is dissolute and cruel, and sincerely sympathizes with the depressed classes. The novel also described many magnificent scenes like the revolt people attacked Bastille and so on,which displayed peoples great strength."It was the best of years, it was the worst of years, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness.。
