section. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A,B,C and D.You should choose the best answer. Then mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet.AIt seems that the great desire among the young is to be popular. The desire to be popular can force you into looking and acting like everyone else. You can lose yourself in a sea of identical hairstyles and thinking styles.I was forced to think about popularity not too long ago in a talk I had with my daughter. Margy had to change schools when my busy work schedule made it necessary for me to move houses. I suppose that, for a girl in her teens, entering a new school is like spending a season alone in the tropical jungles. At least that’s how Margy found it at first. However, as the school year drew to a close, one student after another came to her. I told Margy that I would have been more concerned if she had been an instant social success in her new school. Nobody can please everyone. If you try to do so, you will find values as lasting as soap bubbles blown into the air. Some teenagers claim they want to dress as they please. But they all wear the same clothes. They set off in new directions in music. But somehow they all end up listening to the same record. Their reason for thinking or acting in a certain way is that the crowd is doing it. They have come out of their cocoon into a larger cocoon.I know that it has become harder for a young person to stand up against the popularity wave. Our way of life makes a young nonconformist stand out like a Martian. These days there’s a great barrier for the young person who wants to find his or her own path. But the barrier is worth climbing over. You may want to listen to classical music instead of going to a party. Well, go to it. Be yourself. Popularity will come with the people who respect you for who you are. That’s the only kind of popularity that really counts.41.What does the author think of most teenagers?A.They’re afraid of getting lost in life.B.They have difficulty understanding each other.C.They lack the courage to be truly different.D.They find it hard to gain popularity as expected.42.Why was the author worried about his daughter’s popularity in her new school?A.She might find no true friends.B.She would ignore her academic performance.C.She had no idea of her own.D.She might betray her true self.43.What is the author’s purpose of writing this passage?A.To persuade readers to pursue valuable popularity.B.To tell parents how to guide their children.C.To criticize the present values and beliefs.D.To suggest a good way to be popular.BWithout hardware, there is no science. From Hooker’s microscope to the Hubble telescope, instruments are modern science’s platforms for producing knowledge. But limited access to scientific tools impedes the progress and reach of science by restricting the type of people who can participate in research, flavouring those who have access to well-resourced laboratories in industrial or academic institutions.Scientists in developing countries, grassroots community organizations, and citizen scientists can struggle to obtain and maintain the equipment they require to answer their own research questions. The result of this exclusion from participation is that scientific research becomes ever more elitist as a small number of people decide what the worthwhile and valid projects are. For example, the relative neglect of many tropical diseases and agricultural research on African subsistence crops demonstrates that local concerns in areas with limited scientific resources are often not sufficiently addressed by global science.Likewise, public(水力压裂法) has received $137 million from the United States Department of Energy. But despite vocal concerns about water pollution, no affordable technologies have been developed for communities to use to monitor their own air or water, even though access to the relevant data from industry is difficult. The real problem will then be to keep the masses occupied and content .People must engage in purposrful activities,or they go crazy .So what will the useless class do all day?One answer might be computer games .Ecologically redundant people might spend increasing amout of time within 3D virtual reality worlds, which would provide them with far more excitement and emotional engagement than the "real world"outside. The virtual reality need not be encased inside an isolated box.Rather,it can be combined with the physical reality. In the past this was done with human imagination, and it the 21st century it can be done with smartphones. The idea of finding meaning in life by play virtual reality games is common to secular ideologies and lifestyles. Consumerism too is a virtual reality game. You gain points by acquiring new cars, buying expensive brands expensive brands and taking vocations abroad, and if you more points than everybody else, you tell yourself you won the game.47.Artificial intelligence will replace humans in more and more jobs within decades because______.A.it performs as well as humans in more and more tasksB.it performs better than humans in more and more tasksC.it performs worse than humans in more and more tasksD.it performs exactly like humans in more and more tasks48.According to the passage,_______makes humans unemployable and a useless class might emerge by 2050.A.virtual realityB.some scheme of universal basic incomeputer gamesD.algorithms technology49.In the AI age,if an ex-insurance agent makes the transition into a virtual-world designer,he might have to reinvent himself yet again with another decade because of ______.A.emotional engagementB.purposeful activitiesC.the pace of technology progressD.secular ideologies and lifestyles50.which of the following is the best title for the passage?A.Artificial Intellgence Outperforming Humans CompletelyB.Creating New Jobs the Crucial ProblemC.The Meaning of the Unemployed People's Life in the AI AgeD.Unemployed People,a New Useless Class第二部分主观题一、课标知识(每空1分,共5分)填空题:请将题目中所缺的部分补充完整,使句子意思完整、准确、符合《普通高中英语课程标准》的要求。

Passage1Today’s adults grew up in schools designed to sort us into the various segments of our social and economic system. The amount of time available to learn was fixed:one year per grade. The amount learned by the end of that time was free to vary:some of us learned a great deal;some, very little. As we advanced through the grades, those who had learned a great deal in previous grades continued to build on those foundations. Those who had failed to master the early prerequisites with-in the allotted time failed to learn that which followed.After12or13years of cumulative treatment of this kind,we were,in effect, spread along an achievement continuum that was ultimately reflected in each student’s rank in class upon graduation. From the very earliest grades, some students learned a great deal very quickly and consistently scored high on assessments. The emotional effect of this was to help them to see themselves as capable learners, and so these students became increasingly confident in school. That confidence gave them the inner emotional strength to take the risk of striving for more success because they believed that success was within their reach.Driven forward by this optimism, these students continued to try hard, and that effort continued to result in success for them. They became the academic and emotional winners.Notice that the trigger for their emotional strength and their learning success was their perception of their success on formal and informal assessments. But there were other students who didn’t fare so well. They scored very low on tests, beginning in the earliest grades. The emotional effect was to cause them to question their own capabilities as learners. They began to lose confidence, which,in turn, deprived them of the emotional reserves needed to continue to take risks. As their motivation warned,of course, their performance plummeted. These students embarked on what they believed to be an irreversible slide toward inevitable failure and lost hope.Once again, the emotional trigger for their decision not to try was their perception of their performance on assessments.Consider the reality-indeed,the paradox-of the schools in which we were reared. If some students worked hard and learned a lot, that was a positive result, and they would finish high in the rank order. But if some students gave up in hopeless failure, that was an acceptable result, too, because they would occupy places very low in the rank order.Their achievement results fed into the implicit mission of schools:the greater the spread of achievement among students, the more it reinforced the rank order. This is why, ifsome students gave up and stopped trying(even dropped out of school).that was regarded as the student’s problem, not the teacher’s or the school’s.Once again, please notice who is using test results to decide whether to strive for excellence or give up in hopelessness.The“data-based decision makers”in this process are students themselves.Students are deciding whether success is within or beyond reach, whether the learning is worth the required effort, and so whether to try or not.The critical emotions underpinning the decision making porocess include anxiety, fear of failure, uncertainty, and unwillingness to take risks-all triggered by students’perceptions of their own capabilities as reflected in assessment results. Some students responded to the demands of such environments by working hard and learning a great deal.Others controlled their anxiety by giving up and not caring. The result for them is exactly the opposite of the one society wants.Instead of leaving no child behind, these practices,in effect, drove down the achievement of at least as many students as they successfully elevated. And the evidence suggests that the downside victims are more frequently members of particular socioeconomic and ethnic minoritie.21.What has made students spread along an achievement continuum according to the passage?()A.The allotted time to learn.B.Social and economic system.C.The early prerequisites students mastered.D.Performance on formal and informal assessments.22.What is the authors attitude towards the old mission of assessment?()A.Supportive.B.Indifferent.C.Negative.D.Neutral.23.Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word“plummeted”in Paragraph3?
