Literature Review
•Abraham (2017) found that drivers were learning about in-vehicle technologies primarily through trial and error and the owners manual.
•They preferred to learn through on-line videos, the “car teaching me”, or dealership training.
•Leonard (2001) found that drivers were very unlikely to actually read a vehicle owner’s manual.
Research Objectives
•To understand the effects of multimedia, interactive training protocols as compared to e-manual on:
•Drivers’ understanding of automated vehicle systems
•Driving performance when using automated vehicle systems
•Driver perception and acceptance of automated vehicle systems
training
•Long Term Research Objective
•Assess whether an in-vehicle multimedia training program could be used to improve drivers understanding and performance of the AVS sufficiently for drivers purchasing used vehicle and/or rental vehicles
