海上钢琴师The Legend of 1900影评男主角1900是一个被人遗弃在蒸气船上的孤儿，被船上一位好心的烧炉工收养，然而烧炉工却在一次意外中死亡，只有8岁大的1900又再度成为了孤儿。
失去了亲人的悲痛使他变得茫然没有了依靠，然而过人的天赋使他无师自通成了一名钢琴大师，但宿命也令他天然地对红尘俗世深怀戒意，他从不敢离船上岸去，只因纽约无际的高楼和川流不息的人群令他没有安全感。
纵使后来遇上了一位一见钟情的少女，他思量再三后，还是放弃了上岸寻找初恋情人的冲动。
他永远地留在船上了，直到唯一的好朋友警告他废船将要被炸毁，他也不愿离开，于是从出生开始就没有离开过维多尼亚号的1900殉船于海底。

The crew dies several years later and at that time, 1900 is entirely isolated. He is a genius and he knows how to play the piano without being taught. He gets his own style and wins the applause of passengers. However, he isn’t happy at all. What he is searching for is love and care, yet he cannot find them. In this essay, I willexamine how 1900 suffers from loneliness and how he is afraid of changes.The only companion of 1900 is the piano; he gets used to expressing his feeling via music. Yet, can the piano share with him? Can the music be the tonic for his loneliness? The poor guy has no choices; he was born to be lonely. Maybe it’s his fate. 1900 always wants to attract people by his absorbing performance. Though there is, in fact, nearly no conversation between them, they even don’t know one another. He still wants to be surrounded by the crowd. 1900 doesn’t want to be alone; he enjoys the time being accompanied by people. This can explain why he feels so disappointed, frustrated and he stops playing the piano when the crowd leaves as the destination is reached. 1900 has to become solitary again!One of the passengers admires his talents very much and tries to talk to him. It’s a fixed number and it will not change. It can explain why 1900 prefers staying on board.He takes the piano as an example, “ Ther e are finite keys on the piano”, and he can make “infinite music” out of it. However, the world is a piano that is too big for him. There are infinite keys in the world, how can he make music out of it? It implies that there are so many changes in the worl d; he can hardly face the challenges. “There are thousands of streets in the city…which one should I choose to die?” It shows that 1900 is scared by the ever-changing world and he is too tired to choose. He thinks that he can’t adapt to the changes as “ th e world has passed me (him) by”. In addition, fame, fortune, girl can’t make him tread on land. 1900 chooses to die on the ship rather than getting off. It can be seen that how deeply he is afraid of changes. The marvelous life of 1900 makes him become the legend.Reflection：It's a simple movie, with a simple story and a simple main character - and thats what makes this film so good. It wasn't made to be great and big; it just want to tellthe story of a man who was left behind and raised in the Ocean. He never set foot on land and that's the only thing that makes him special. That and all its consequences. Visually the movie is beautiful and its a proof that special effects have nothing to do with a beautiful image - they are beautiful because you feel it. And it's a story that will make you want to meet the main character in person. The ending is wonderful and it's very well put (so hard to find a good ending these days). Tim Roth is excellent as 1900, but the two biggest actors in this movie are the "ship" and the "ocean". Both seem to have a life of their own. This is not only a movie that is worth to watch, it's a movie everybody should watch - it's the living proof that a moviedoesn't have to be great to be good. In fact, it can be excellent.。

海上钢琴师The Legend Of 1900 review by efilmcritic关键字：英语电影影评During the beginning of "The Legend of 1900," I kept think how much it played like an old fable, and it was none to my surprise that when I looked at the press kit that it clearly states: "A FABLE BY GIUSEPPE TORNATORE THE LEGEND OF 1900." It is to my disappointment that I announce that this is only the second film by Tornatore that I have seen, the first being in my opinion, the best foreign film I've ever seen, "Cinema Paradiso." You'd think that after having seen that film even years ago and having loved it, that it would have motivated me to search out more of his work. With "1900," it at least gives me the reminder of the other possibilities out there.With something to the effect of the name Danny Boodmann T.D. Lemon Nineteen-Hundred, Tim Roth takes it all on, and couldn't have been any better. Born and left of the ship, the Virginia, 1900, as he was later named for having been born in that very year on that very ship, was found by Danny (Bill Nunn), an African-American coal room worker. He took the child on as his own until he met his death several years later by accident. 1900 picked up on playing the piano (the film was once entitled "The Legend of the Pianist in the Ocean") and had the ability to create flowing and haunting melodies at the sweep of his fingers; a true ivory tickler you might say.1900's story is told via flashback and reflection by Max (Pruitt Taylor Vince), a friend of 1900's of whom he spent many years with on the ship, and played the trumpet along side him in the jazz orchestra.At first this notion seems a little contrived, been there done that-ish, but like the music, begins to flourish and flow. There's a lot of narration along the way; one might think the story would have been better told straightforward, as it happened, but either way I'm quite content. Max narrates the story in a kind of noir-ish malaise of the old 40s and 50s films, but you get over it. Or maybe not; I could have lived without it but stuck with it hoping for progression, and I got it.Time and years build up, and 1900 has become a prolific pianist, not to our surprise, but as the current time is at stake we learn too, that our dear old Virginia is about to be blown up with tons of dynamite (sorry kiddies, not any of the homemade dynamite we're so familiar with after a certain "Club" everyone's obsessing about). Pretty much, the rest of the story is just that, Max recounting what it was like to know him, what happened while he knew him, and ideas about why he (1900) never left the ship; not even once.I dunno if being a fable consistutes some of the coincidences such as Max happening to go into the onlymusic/pawn shop to sell his trumpet that has the old pianos 1900 used to play. Or that it happens that Max plays a tune that was created by 1900 that somehow triggers the old shopkeeper's memory to bring out an old matrix record that is the same tune, and happens to be the only recorded version of any of his work. Take it or leave it. It felt like more of a pleasure to enjoy this film than to overly criticize it. Some skeptics may feel that it's too large of a pill to swallow, and won't go for it, but I found it to be entrancing and throughly delightful.The music, all by Ennio Morricone, is beautiful. I loved how scenes would just be time after time of 1900 pounding out notes. It reminded me of "Tango" in the sense that you were watching it more for its dancing and cheorography than its storytelling; "The Legend of 1900" was interesting mostly for its musical capabilities.Fine Line will hopefully give a little extra shove or nudge to push the performance of Tim Roth for Best Actor; I certainly wouldn't mind him along the likes of Richard Farnsworth and Kevin Spacey. He takes a modest take on a role of which is hard not to like. Who doesn't want to champion 1900 along as he out jazzes Jelly Roll Morton (an excellent Clarence Williams III). One of the singly funniest scenes in recent cinema included at show down, and the use of cigarettes. It caught me quite by surprise and kept me snickering until several scenes thereafter.Pruitt Taylor Vince was also very good, starring at you with his astigmatic eyes which so effacaciously graced us in "Heavy." Maybe a little over used as far as certain emphasis goes, his humane presence had a more positive influence on the film. Billed as only The Girl, Melanie Theirry was a beauty to stare at, but I knew from the instance I saw her that she had be a super, or at least a model. (I was right, it was confirmed in her bio in the press kit.) However, I still wish there would have been a little more development between her and 1900.It's hard for me to compare the only other work of Tornatore's that I've seen with this, so it would be easier not to. I have much more of a keen interest to go back and research his earlier films, and look at the juxtaposition of them againist his award winner ("Cinema Paradiso"), all the way up to his most recent, and first film in English. All in all, I think the attitude of watching a "fable" is what will eventually make up your mind and feelings of this. It kind of seemed sweet, even a little touching to go along with it. Tornatore seems to enjoy making films, and I seem to enjoy watching them.The cinematography by Lajos Koltai, and the production design by Francesco Frigeri were added bonuses. As opposed to "Titanic," never once did the ship itself look or appear fake, or filmed against a greenscreen. Although both films may have a corny feel to them (example: Roth and Vince slip and spin around sitting at the piano as the ship rocks), one focuses on the story and the characters --"Legend", while "Titanic" uses it's name to only to underscore the ship itself and involve us with a shameless and silly romance between two very fake characters. One uses its possesions, whilst the other uses its front as a shadow for something else wholly less interesting.。

In this essay, I willexamine how 1900 suffers from loneliness and how he is afraid of changes.The only companion of 1900 is the piano; he gets used to expressing his feeling via music. Yet, can the piano share with him? Can the music be the tonic for his loneliness? The poor guy has no choices; he was born to be lonely. Maybe it’s his fate. 1900 always wants to attract people by his absorbing performance. Though there is, in fact, nearly no conversation between them, they even don’t know one another. He still wants to be surrounded by the crowd. 1900 doesn’t want to be alone; he enjoys the time being accompanied by people. This can explain why he feels so disappointed, frustrated and he stops playing the piano when the crowd leaves as the destination is reached. 1900 has to become solitary again!One of the passengers admires his talents very much and tries to talk to him. His personality makes him miss a chance. 1900 is very unhappy and breaks the record. Again, he just keeps his mouth shut and never shares with the others. It is obvious that he no longer wants to share, he is too tired to find opportunities to air his feeling.Changes make 1900 scared, he wants his everyday life remains the same. For 27 years, he stays on board and never treads on land. Although his crews always persuade him to get off, he is reluctant to try. Several months after the girl had left, 1900 suddenly wants to tread on land. His reason is that he wants to listen to the voice of the sea as he can only hear it clearly on land. Before his death, 1900 tells the reasons for not treading on land when he’s walking down the ladder. “ I’m not afraid of what I can see, I’m afraid of what I can’t see”, 1900 is frightened as he can’t see the en d of the city. “ Where is the end of the world?” Moreover, there’re only two thousand passengers on broad at a time. It’s a fixed number and it will not change. It can explain why 1900 prefers staying on board.He takes the piano as an example, “ Ther e are finite keys on the piano”, and he can make “infinite music” out of it. However, the world is a piano that is too big for him. There are infinite keys in the world, how can he make music out of it? It implies that there are so many changes in the worl d; he can hardly face the challenges. “There are thousands of streets in the city…which one should I choose to die?” It shows that 1900 is scared by the ever-changing world and he is too tired to choose. He thinks that he can’t adapt to the changes as “ th e world has passed me (him) by”. In addition, fame, fortune, girl can’t make him tread on land. 1900 chooses to die on the ship rather than getting off. It can be seen that how deeply he is afraid of changes. The marvelous life of 1900 makes him become the legend.Reflection：It's a simple movie, with a simple story and a simple main character - and thats what makes this film so good. It wasn't made to be great and big; it just want to tellthe story of a man who was left behind and raised in the Ocean. He never set foot on land and that's the only thing that makes him special. That and all its consequences. Visually the movie is beautiful and its a proof that special effects have nothing to do with a beautiful image - they are beautiful because you feel it. And it's a story that will make you want to meet the main character in person. The ending is wonderful and it's very well put (so hard to find a good ending these days). Tim Roth is excellent as 1900, but the two biggest actors in this movie are the "ship" and the "ocean". Both seem to have a life of their own. This is not only a movie that is worth to watch, it's a movie everybody should watch - it's the living proof that a movie doesn't have to be great to be good. In fact, it can be excellent.。

电影讲述了一个名为1900的天才钢琴师从出生到死亡生活着的Virginian号豪华邮轮，一个漂浮在海上的乌托邦上，始终没有踏上过陆地的故事。
采用回忆的方式讲述了1900传奇的一生。

用乐队小号手马克斯的视角，将主人公的生活细节描绘的淋漓精致，让观看者不知不觉融入到电影中去，如同身临其境般与故事中的人物同喜同悲。
影片中有四个镜头或片段很让我感动，因为其艺术性，以及恰如其分的细节描写，让我们看到了主人公1900生活中的天真，自豪，犹豫，无奈。
影片里就从来就不缺爱情，然而本片却没有这样的好运，对海的依恋，对选择的恐惧，使他错过唯一一次去爱的机会，他掰碎了那张记录了初恋的唱片，他也掰碎了那段没有结果的回忆。

That is not to say the play is terrible, it’s just because Morgan Freeman is so great that I almost consider the legend of 1900 as a plagiarized work when I saw it first.But when saw it in second time, the great skill of Tornatore, which is the ability to shape the roles vividly, become obvious. It is better to consider 1900 as a group of people, not a specific individual. Maybe it is a reason why the screenwriter doesn’t give him a name. Some people say 1900 is a reflection of the fate of artists. And their loneliness contributes to their artistic quality.1900, being adopted by a boiler man, is an abandoned infant. Unfortunately, his adoptive father died in an accident when 1900 is eight years old. On one hand, the immense talent makes him as a self-taught piano master. On the other hand, the fate also let him be deeply suspicious about the secular world. Even if meet a young girl he loved at the first sight, thinking over and over, he ultimately give up the impulse to find his first lover. Feeling that his fate is tied to the ship, 1900 cannot bring himself to leave the only home he has known. In the end, the Virginian blows up and sinks, with 1900 still aboard.This is an unreal marvel, a sentimental story, a genius interweaved with the ocean, steamboat, piano, land, loneliness and friendship. I really don’t agree with the 1900’s explanation why he doesn’t want to go off the ship at the very beginning, thinking he had a negative attitude towards life. But I finally understand the reason. Instead of playing the piano for others or for money, he desires to continue his love for piano in heaven, to play his own music.Just like the 1900, we all have our own world, and desire to live a so-called life in the demarcated safe zone. But can we? I still remember such words: “Take a piano. The keys begin, the keys end. You know there are eighty-eight of them, nobody can tell you any different. They are not infinite. The Legend of 1900
The Legend of 1900 is an Italian movie. It is known as one of the Giuseppe Trnatore’ s famous “Searching Trilogy”.
The movie tells us a said story about a pianist who lived on the sea all his life. January，1900，the beginning of 20th century, a worker named Danny Boodman on the Virginian—a luxury ship—found a baby was abandoned on the piano. Danny was so warmhearted that he adopted the little boy and he gave the boy a new name Nineteen Hundred because the boy was found in the first month of new century. As time goes, 1900 grew up though they lived in a poor living condition. However, in a serious accident Danny was bad hurt and he went away several days later. 1900 became an orphan again. But music saved him from sadness and confusion. 1900 is quite gifted in music especially in piano and he became the pianist of the ship. 1900 never go ashore but he can imagine the world outside the ship wonderfully.
1900 lived a calm life until he met Max who was badly seasickness in a serious sea storm. Max was good at play trumpet and he appreciated 1900’s music. Max became 1900’s good friend soon. He told 1900 how is the outside world like and encourage 1900 go ashore because he held the view that 1900’s music would bring wealth and honor. But 1900 didn’t agree to leave because he knew nothing about outside so that he didn’t want to go out to see what the world really is. For 1900, the world is too remote.
It came to a turning point when 1900 met a beautiful girl. After a couple of long voyage, 1900 decided to go ashore and to see the girl. On the day he left, all sailor waved hands to say goodbye to 1900. 1900 put on the coat that Max gave him. He went down the stairs carefully, step by step, with his small suitcase. I can’t forget the smiling face on 1900 when he went through the hall playing piano in the sea storm.
