An ancient Chinese legend
• the Silkworm Goddess(蚕神嫘祖)appeared to the Yellow Emperor(the God of Weaving), the legendary ancestor of the Chinese people, after he had vanquished his adversary Chi You. She presented him with silk fibers spun from her own mouth as a sign of respect. The Yellow Emperor ordered the fibers woven into cloth and made into silk apparel, which he found exceedingly soft and comfortable. • 嫘祖,一作“累祖”。传为西陵氏之女,是传说中的北方 部落首领黄帝轩辕氏的元妃。她生了玄嚣,昌意二子。玄 嚣之子蟜极,之孙为五帝之一的帝喾;昌意娶蜀山氏女为 妻,生高阳,继承天下,这就五帝之一的“颛顼帝”。《 史记》提到黄帝娶西陵氏之女嫘祖为妻,她发明了养蚕, 为“嫘祖始蚕”。
• Tang Dynasty was considered by some as another turning point for Hanfu.
